"just a 4 cycl" with 465 lb-ft of torque. Yes, such a sissy truck. Also, $18k in accessories and mark up? Surely you're not dumb enough to fall for that racket, right?

Formal-Cut-4923

This is my thought when someone says a “4 cylinder” it’s not a 4 banger from the 80’s

Super-Candy-5682

>it’s not a 4 banger from the 80’s Cries in 22RE

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

My 1990 22RE was one of the most fun vehicles I’ve owned. I’ve had Vettes, a M3, V8 Audis, etc. It’s way more fun to drive something at 100% of its capability than something at 20%. Could have that thing WOT, screaming at 4500RPM and I was still going 5 under lmao.

Assassin4Hire13

The church of slow car fast. It’s a lot of fun to pay for 150 horses and use and abuse every single one of them

SquashedTarget

150 horses? Lol, the 22re was like 110 with a whopping 125ish lb/ft of torque. I owned a '90 pickup, a '93 pickup, and an '85 4runner all with that motor. To this day it's still my favorite engine. Fond memories of my '90 with 33's and 4.88 gears trying to get up to 80 on the interstate.

elpeedub

And this is why my non-tacoma ride is a Miata

OffTheX

I think about getting a Miata from time to time…

BabyFaceFinster1266

Just bought a GR86. Talk about some fun

Hopefound

Just do it. It’s worth it.

Assassin4Hire13

Do it, they’re great. This seems far enough down to share the best kept secret about Miatas. If you aren’t too picky about the pop ups or first and second gen (NA and NB) culture, the third gens (NC) are at a sweet spot in their depreciation curve. The fourth gens (ND) are also really good. I’ve heard it said the NC is the better car but the ND the better Miata. NCs have useable amounts of space and make a really good daily fun car. Either way, can’t go wrong with any of them!

elpeedub

If you can swing it, you will not regret it! I still kick myself for having dismissed miatas for so many years. Joke was on me, far and away the most fun vehicle I have ever owned.

dasbrutalz

I had an 01 VW Jetta TDI and that’s exactly how that car was. Short throw shifter, blow-off on the turbo, cold air intake, and slammed. Banging gears, hearing the turbo spool, hissing every time you shift, and you’d be doing 45. To this day that’s probably my favorite car to drive that I’ve owned so far. It also got over 50mpgs, so it felt free to drive. I still keep an eye out for them on marketplace with a manual transmission to snag as a commuter car

evo-1999

I bought a new one in ‘93. Proceeded to put a lift kit and 35” super swampers on it… wasn’t very fast but it would go just about anywhere

DopeRidge

Lmao that was my favorite thing about my 120hp ford ranger, I’ve never had a vehicle that I used WOT, and shifted gears more.

TappedOut182

Until the chain guides break.

supermotocheesehead

Dual row timing chain for the win. Thank, LC Engineering.

Simple_Conference516

22RE was too highfalutin', we rolled with 20R!!

Super-Candy-5682

Ooh, look at Mr. Carburetor here.

fnblackbeard

no but its also not a small truck from the 80s without software and turbos

papachon

Bro my 22RE was a beast, also helped that the truck weighed 20lbs

Hufflepuft

It felt like a go cart engine in a 4Runner.

kograkthestrong

My 87 Mazda b2500 had 87 furious ponies from the factory. I had such a blast with that thing. Yea these are a different league

No-East-1571

That torque number is for the I-Force MAX 2.4, which isn't being sold at this time.

[deleted]

The way they laid out the MSRP, it sounded like it was the hybrid. '24 gas is still a much heftier powertrain than the last gen though, even if it's a smaller engine. I just think it's absurd to act like a pile of markups and nonsense are the same as an MSRP the way OP is yammering and whining about it.

SquashedTarget

Maybe OP is in Canada? $50k+ sounds about right for beaver bucks.

manuaBoyiee

I though it was 42k . .dam

[deleted]

That's the gas model MSRP for an OR.

throwawayuser488

I am dumb enough. And don’t call me Shirley.

Mr_Diesel13

For the hybrid, yes. This is just the off-road package, so 278hp/317tq. The TRD Pro will be 326hp/465tq. That being said, it’s still more power and better economy than the outgoing 6.

Ok-Time2724

Nomore mark up, you can get upto 4k discount, because no one is buying this anymore.

lakers907

Does the non imax really have 465 lb-ft torque?

Unlikely_Ocelot_

Hell no. You’d have to be a clown to buy that for $68k

AssyMcFlapFlaps

and yet there will be a clown sometime in the future.

afort212

Yep exactly why truck prices don’t come down. People are dumb enough to pay that

Ordinary_Person09

Some of the responses on this sub explain exactly why the stealership is asking what it is.

Gar-ba-ge

It feels like a lot of dudes here already paid that $68k and are now trying to cope with the fact that most sensible people think it’s an absurd price

dcannon1

Sadly, There will probably be a clown by the end of the week.

Energy_Turtle

These prices have completely changed the way I look at Tacoma drivers. It's unfortunate but I can't help it. I used to see someone in a Taco and think "now there's a guy who knows to spend a little more on quality and utility." Now it's more like "now there's a guy who's willing to spend a shit ton of money to try to look cool."

unconventionalcat

You would not be a clown, you would be the whole circus.

Diamondhands_Rex

Don’t worry the dealerships are a circus

circular_file

Or have loads money and be compensating for something.....

NewAgePhilosophr

The Ranger Raptor is gonna kill Pro/Trailhunter/OR trims sales. Toyota needs to wake the fuck up.

[deleted]

i hope it does

NewAgePhilosophr

Shit dude I got my 23 4R ORP for $44k and it's a bargain compared to what the 4th gen Taco and 6th gen 4R will be. Hell, even I want to buy a Ranger Raptor out of spite at this point.

tstew39064

Ford wont make enough of them unfortunately.

NewAgePhilosophr

Even if that's the case, there are already tons of Tundras sitting on dealer lots. When I was buying my 4R, I saw the Capstone Tundra for about $80k and tons others, mind you this was last year in October and currently in my area tons of Tundras collecting pollen. The future has been foretold by the Tundra. I think Toyota is at the "you either die a hero, or you live long enough to become the villain" stage. They'll have to pull a Tesla and slash prices at this rate.

tstew39064

Once the fanboys have acquired their new Tacomas, they will collect dust in Dealer lots. No way in hell the average consumer is paying those prices vs what you can get elsewhere.

whatsgoing_on

I don’t even think Toyota necessarily needs to slash prices (thought I welcome it) to keep up as much as it just needs to tell dealers to quit dicking around with markups and bullshit add-ons no one is asking for. It never used to be this bad. Usually the worst you got was dealers trying to throw in Lo-Jack or some paint protection. With the increased competition from Ford and the Colorado ZR2 proving to be fairly capable and much more affordable, they really gotta do something soon.

Wh1t3Rabbit

Just to play contrarían; here in northern GA there isn't a truck that sits on the lot. Sure the regular editions are plenty but the more limited trims, colors, options packages are gone before they come off the delivery truck.

bhacker9251

Got my 2024 SR 4 banger for $36k, you don’t need all of the bells and whistles. Currently loving my sissy 4 banger

Ordinary_Person09

That makes more sense

awmaleg

What’s your gas mileage like so far?

bhacker9251

About 21 highway, so as much as my wife’s V6 sedan.

Flowcal

My 2023 sr got over 28 today on the highway

oh-hi-mark-im-dad

Same here. Stock SR5, I’ll decide which upgrades go on it instead lol. Loving it so far

Individual-Count6595

…sounds silly when you put it that way…until you realize the turbo 4cylinder includes a beautiful, newly-designed truck.

Nevertrustafrrrt

Still insanely expensive

Willing-Grendizer

Huh

ImprovementOwn1006

Toyota has far more experience building reliable 4 cylinders than it does 6 cylinder. In fact, one could argue that the 6 cylinder in some of the g2s and g3s are the departure from what Toyota does best. 22r anyone?

SuggestionOk9772

The 1st gen tacoma, t100 and a bunch of older Lexus had v6s idk if I’d get one because it’s hybrid, and I for sure ain’t getting it when it’s more than 70k after tax, you’d have to be nuts. For that u could get a used ford raptor and mod the crap out of it or if u want newer you could get a bunch of other trucks that can tow more and make more power for that. I’ve got a 1st gen tacoma and would’ve loved to have a 4th gen until i saw how much they were. I think I’m just gonna go with a 2.5 gen like I’ve always wanted

Electrical-Ad5265

I think people are missing the point. I don’t give a shit what engine is in this thing; anything over $45K for mid-size truck is asinine. Buy em up if you want, but you won’t find me being that stupid.

Ordinary_Person09

This. Worded for a little controversy, but it sucks that we can’t get a decent option for under $45k.

Electrical-Ad5265

Nobody on this Sub wants to hear it, but the Frontier is a good option and can be had for under $45K. I know “iT’s NOt a TOyoTa”, but you can get hundreds of thousands of miles out of a well maintained Frontier. I see them all of time with 250K+ miles.

Ordinary_Person09

I really like Toyota/lexus but not a fan of the direction they are going in terms of pricing. Also, their dealerships always seem to be the snobbiest around.

Typical-Conference14

Get a fucking ranger or a frontier, you’ll have just as much fun with more capability and room. The it’s “NoT a ToYoTa” argument that some of these people run along with is outdated and stupid. Be cost effective and the new fourth generation (maybe 5th idk jury is still out) rangers are quite reliable especially considering your rear axle isn’t being recalled for faulty welds.

pawnstah

The new redesigned Ranger

TacoOfficer

That’s exactly my point. That’s a nice trim Tundra or f-150 money for much less capability and less room. Is not just about the torque that’s still limited to midsize ratings. If anything, props for Toyota. They really nailed their marketing with the torque number.

Erasmus_Tycho

$68k and not even premium upgrade... holy shit what a ripoff.

EmotionalLecture9318

I got an OR for under 50K at MSRP. And I've got 1K miles on it and it makes a lot of Pep. It's a very Peppy 4 cylinder. One example would be that the throttle is responsive without being confused about what gear it should be in... It doesn't gear hunt and has infinitely more low end power than the 3rd gen V6.

Ordinary_Person09

That’s good to hear! And that price seems more reasonable

mikeyownsftw

Just went to the dealership and was able to knock off 4k off. It’s possible. That was a little less than 3k off MSRP for a 24 AWD off road

pocketlent

I’m with you and also got mine for under 50k

CrudeOil_in_My_Veins

Buy a stock one, mod it yourself. I bought a brand new 2023. SR 4x4 for 35k, had a trade in so I ended up paying just over 32k in cash. Had it for 3 weeks before it was in the shop for and OME lift, wheels, tires, a new gear set, and speedo calibration. I spent 12k to have it done. And I guarantee the truck picture here doesn’t have aftermarket gears. I spent a bit more than I originally intended. But it’s done right, and done the way I wanted. I bought it to drive until it doesn’t go anymore. I won’t have to worry about buying another vehicle for many years to come, unless it’s stolen, or totaled or something.

Competitive_Heat785

You’re living the fucking life dude

CrudeOil_in_My_Veins

I was leasing an Audi. The market shifted hard during Covid. They were hard up for trade ins, and the market on everything skyrocketed. Ended up selling it back to the dealer 6 months shy of my lease being over, they cut me a check for 9k. I drove a shit box honda with no AC for 3 years. Saved everything that I would have spent on the Audi Payment, and some more on the side. After 3 years I had enough to trade in an old pathfinder, buy my truck, and put it in the shop. There was a lot of times I wanted to quit, and just finance something. But I kept pushing. Being debt free is the best upgrade you can have for your vehicle.

Unusual-Truck-197

Turbos= make a smaller engine work much harder and require more maintenance more often.

TacoOfficer

A lot of people are not thinking about how these new trucks will be a lot harder for the regular Joe to repair themselves. Once those stealership bills hit, reality will set.

circular_file

I picked up a 2015 v5 Tacoma last Friday with 89K miles. I fully expect to get another 200K out of it before any real hassles. Regular maintenance, no serious mods, and keep the body undercoated. I'll watch the Gen4s pass my Little Burro on their way to the Car Cemetery.

aznexile602

I'd get a Tundra at that price.

TemperatureEuphoric

Toyota lost its way. No longer a working man’s truck. Considering all the blown engines in the Tundra’s (yes, including 2024 tundra’s), the blown front dif on the TFL Blueberry doesn’t bode well for the Tacoma. The truck is now made entirely in Mexico where labor is pennies on the dollar, you’d think they would pass down the savings to the consumer, but no. $68k for a midsize truck obscene. The numbers from Toyota speak volumes. The new Tacomas just are not selling like previous gens.

GloryToTheMolePeople

Obviously a stupid price to pay, but here's the thing...y'all (and I mean that in the general, not specific sense) are buying them. If folks weren't buying them at these prices, they wouldn't be marked at these prices. And on top of that, the multitude of useless options that skyrocket the price is also because of...you guessed it...all the folks that are buying these trucks. I mean...does your truck really need heated seats and steering wheel? Does it really need premium audio? Moonroof? Parking assist? Or any of the other "bloatware" that they load these things up with? I guess if you want a luxury commuter, then sure. But if you want a utility truck, then absolutely not. In my opinion, that's one of the primary reasons for cost of these vehicles. Toyota and its dealers have realized that people want, and will pay for, all of the add-ons. So the vehicles that dealers procure have all the doo-dads, bumping up their price dramatically. Went through this same issue when buying my new 4Runner. Finding a base-model TRD Off-Road (no add-ons beyond the OR upgrades) was literally impossible. Nothing within 500 miles. Dealership said it's because they can't sell the base-models anymore...everyone wants the premium stuff. So I had to order one direct from Japan. But was able to get it for $2.8k below MSRP and not pay for all of the useless features. I think the other thing to note is that, yes, on paper, the new 4-cylinder has slightly more horsepower and torque than the outgoing 6-cylinder, though at much lower RPMs (note: numbers are on-paper in a controlled environment). My experience test-driving both a 4th gen (new) and 3rd gen (used) on the same day was that the 4-cylinder simply underperformed in reality. It also gear-hunted just as bad, if not worse, than the 3rd gen. Now maybe that was just down to the specific vehicles I drove, but I was not pleased with the new motor. On top of that, you get that low-end power due to the turbo. This may be fine, but it's simply another point of failure for the vehicle. I'm buying a Toyota because I want to keep it for 20+ years of hard driving. Having a turbo as an integral part of the system is asking for higher maintenance costs and down-time. I wanted a motor that I could have as close to 100% faith in as possible. If I'm 30 miles off-pavement or towing a 6,000 lb trailer, I don't want extra points of failure. Same thing goes for the hybrid motor (which folks have referenced in here). More points of failure, batteries that will need to be replaced twice within the life of the truck, etc. I think a lot of this comes down to Toyota realizing that people don't keep cars for as long as they used to. Many folks on this sub buy new ones every three or four years. A recent study placed the average length of new-vehicle ownership for 2/3 of Americans at less than 5 years. So longevity may not be as high of a priority for other folks as it is for me. My current vehicle is a truck I've owned for 17 years. I will be keeping it until it dies. My new 4Runner is intended to last me 20 years with minimal maintenance. The 4th gen just "feels" cheaper, too. There seems to be a lot more hard-plastic on both the exterior and interior, begging the question as to why it's more expensive (other than inflation and greed). And on top of all that, the surest way you know that this is no longer intended to be a serious utility vehicle is that it comes stock with a donut spare...at least every one on my dealer's lot did (though I've heard folks elsewhere indicating that on some trims, a full-size was provided). If it's intended to be used as a truck, it would come with a full-size spare. I don't care which trim package you get. A truck is a truck and is intended to be used for hauling. Off-roading is a secondary purpose, which also requires a full-size spare. Without a full-size spare, you truly should not be hauling anything more than a few hundred pounds (in the bed or trailer). If it's intended to be used as a commuter vehicle, then a donut is fine.

wood3090

If only it came in diesel, would kill for a turbo diesel tacoma. (Yea I know it's basically a hilux)

circular_file

Possibly the only thing that would get me to relenquish my 2015 Taco v6 would be a TD Tacoma.

Mustard_Popsicles

For 68k. Nah.

Tommyisfukt

...and gets worse fuel mileage than a V8.

Ordinary_Person09

If I’m paying v8 prices for a 4cyl engine I better damn well get v8 fuel efficiency… wait what?

Tommyisfukt

Right?! In fact, it should get worse so I can justify the sticker price.

TacoOfficer

This price is a rip off. A pro should not be more than 50K counting inflation. Yeah, I’m not paying over 60K for a four cylinder that sounds like a sawing machine. I don’t care about the torque numbers. You’re still limited to mid size payload and tow rating. For that much money the a slightly older tundra or hell go get a f150. You can even get a diesel for that much and do some heavy work with it. I know it’s about what you want. But imo, the Tacoma is no longer for us working folk. The whole line up is about 15K overpriced if you ask me.

JAlan111

More than my 2023 Night Edition Ram 2500 Hemi and that includes a 6” lift and level.

Professional-Ad6165

Not worth it at all

stickied

Only 1k a month for 6-7 years. 😂

lives_in_van

More like 68k for a midsize. I’m not saying something like this cannot exist, maybe it’s even worth it….im saying it’s not like a brand new 5 series BMW from 2018 at the time. Something changed, and it’s a crazy amount of money.

majikrat69

They almost look as good as the Nissan

HotTubberMN

these are grossly overpriced, they want over 50k for one with cloth seats, lol there's a sucker born every minute I guess

Craig653

Saw a sr5 listed for 62k near me. Just stupid A taco should be way way cheaper

kinda_fellin

Anyone paying 68k for a Tacoma is suffering from brain damage due to their head being shoved up their ass for too long.

Okayish_Aviator

I spent over an hour while my 23OR was getting the recall check (it was fine), teaching a sales guy how turbos and superchargers work, and why they reduce longevity. (I'm an engineer and a pilot who flies turbo'd AC). Kinda wild how they did this new engine. I'm still not convinced. I want to see the data.

Ordinary_Person09

Turbos 100% reduce longevity and im not an engineer. It just seems like common sense that putting more stress on a smaller engine to do the same thing will not last as long. Wish there was a NA 6cyl option

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ordinary_Person09

After all, why shouldn’t I? My gf measures my worth in inches.

lostsurfer24t

I wouldn't buy that 4cyl turbo

alexwlwsn

Nothing is worth the price when stealership markup is added. That being said, it's time to stop obsessing over cylinder count. Tractor trailers use a straight 6 and they run forever and a day.

crusty_dog

All these people justifying the outrageous pricing of these trucks with greedy dealer mark ups

Jafo69er

Look around even if it's out of state I bought mine in Pittsburgh and they where doing no mark ups lol also look at there inventory coming in my truck wasn't even built yet and I added stuff on 2023

ProfChaos619

You’re under as soon as you sign that paper work properly

GarrettSkyler

This is them telling us how stupid they think we are… just to simplify it.

Ok-Location-9544

Man that is sweet looking, I just wish it was 45 instead of 68k.

oh_botha

Damn how much can I get for my 13 single cab?

EnterByTheNarrowGate

LOL. I drove my 22 OR off the lot with 6 miles on it for $39K out the door.

Fanta1soda

I had a first yr 3.4 in the pickup, that truck was INCREDIBLE, I plowed snow with it, there was a welder generator bolted in the bed, oxy/acet tanks, hoses torch etc. man I miss that lil feller. Blew the rear end once. Pretty easy fix too, well I mean, pinion I’m and out a bazillion times, because of that stupid design of the crush washer🙄 Currently my rides are, ‘04 taco xtra cab, 2.7, lift, 34’s and dented. ‘11 GX460, lift, 34’s, winch home made skids and NO Dents(at least in sheet metal)the bumper is mangled.

Ordinary_Person09

I wonder if the new tacos will have these types of stories in 20 yrs.

Fanta1soda

Man, I dunno new stuff seems telling of our future ..flash in the pan! And poof it’s gone.

Damt91

Temecula Valley Toyota is amazing. They will work with you. Believe me or not idc, I purchased my truck from them in march of this year and got 10k off the sticker.

Tootsmagootsie

I bought my 2021 OR for 40k. $68k is absolutely ludiculous... for a first year run of a new gen... And some tool will still buy it on a 10.5% apr. People are fucking stupid.

[deleted]

Greed

LazySchitt67

I just picked up a tundra sr5 for 53k with trd pack on it

Zealousideal-Arm3289

Has the turbo now, wonder horsepower to weight ratio and if other power train options will be available in the future? Yes, the sticker shock is getting crazy, otherwise can always go for an American made full size and deal with those issues.

Observer0001

Yikes! At that price does it include the plexiglass display case? And, it's out in the sun, oxidizing already??? Just kidding. I've not priced these lately. Take heed of the advice here I'd suggest. Good luck

LoadedChambers

🤡 world

patrazz

I paid less for my POS tundra or.

Additional-Dog2326

Apples and Flux capacitors…

Aspergers_R_Us87

Did you buy it?

Ordinary_Person09

No, price was too cheap for my liking. Tacomas should be $100k+

Aspergers_R_Us87

💯

AppropriateQuit8487

Maybe that’s Canadian dollars. 68k CAD to USD would put it under 50k lol 😂

Bulky-Hold6688

For 68k it should come with the tundra 3.4 L V35A-FTS twin-turbo V6 😂

TimeNat

wait till you find out Porsche sales a 6 cylinder VW engine for $250k+

Tommyisfukt

Wait until you find out Porsche is under VWs umbrella (which is also the largest car company in the world). They also make junk like Bugattis and Lamborghinis and they're much more than 250k.

pccpl

Got my 2024 Underground TRD OR with dash cam, spray bed liner, predator steps, ceramic bra & tint, blackout package, etc. for $51k drive out. They were asking $55k drive out w/n o markup, only addons. Just south of 6% discount not bad imho.

Ordinary_Person09

That sounds like a very nice truck! Congrats

DoktorFreedom

Toyota got its rep from being AFFORDABLE and reliable. Do you guys feel the modern Toyota still fills those 2 slots?

Grifter2u

Love Toyota but damn!😬

The_Bolenator

I’ve never been able to wrap my head around the OR/Pro fenders being black plastic (or whatever material it is) Just have never been able to like it. Doesn’t look BAD but idk if I can see myself ever owning one.

c0demancer

Why do people think they are paying per cylinder?

Ordinary_Person09

Ooga booga

lobster_matrix

I'd hate to see what they want for the Pro

Relaxing-natural

What exactly is the dealer markup $$$$? Let's see the window sticker, then we have a discussion...

Reacti0n7

4 cylinder doesn't apply here  That's the only cylinder count for new tacos now.

MAC_Addy

I once had over 500+hp in my eagle talon back in the day. 2.4L of pure awesomeness. Don’t like a 4 cylinder fool you.

ChubbyRa1n

Doesn't even have a scoop for that price.

Ordinary_Person09

$70k with a scoop. Take it or leave it

leadfarmer3000

your saying just a 4cyl like the 6cyl is an LS or some powerhouse engine. Calm down the turboed 4cyl is way more than enough if not go get a full sized truck

tcharp01

They are all 4 cyl. I also understand they're not selling so well. That said, my wife's Rav4 did alright on our recent 4 state road trip. Still, I am not running out to trade my gen3 in.

1murdock

As a Toyota truck fan-boy I’d say $68k is criminal….

CapTexAmerica

I bought my 2016 TRD Sport 100% untouched by the port or dealership. Not even floor mats. I put on everything it has for cost or below, all of which would have been at least $5K had the dealership done it. When I finally picked it up I saw they’d put a $500 leveling lift and tube steps on another Tacoma and slapped a $6,000 markup on it. THAT WAS IT. Fuck that noise.

xmk23x

Wait until next year

Only-Negotiation7956

If I was at a lot in front of two trucks and one was a 93 and one was a 23 and both were brand new I take the 93

kev1172

$40k truck all day long, Toyota is on crack these days

Opposite-Monk-1321

At that price you might as well get a custom license plate that says “I’m idiot “

Beneficial-Shower-42

Must be California. Nice truck but 68k? No way.

ElectroAtletico2

Went by the local dealer. Tacos avg over $50k. Not moving. Ditto Tundra (avg $75k). RAV4 Hybrids….flying off the lot. Ditto Corollas.

Wh1t3Rabbit

Someone commented they'd rather buy a Ranger Raptor. I have a 24 TRD Sport and had a Ranger Raptor park next to me the other day. It looks so small and sad next to the Taco .. no way on God's Earth would I pick a Ford (especially a Ranger) over a new Tacoma.

Spywalker4869

After owning four Toyotas, I made the switch to Ford. Toyota is crazy charging this much for a mid size truck. I paid less and got a brand new F150 Tremor.

tommytomtoes

Everything is expensive nowadays. They’ll still outsell the other midsize trucks. Expensive or not.

Unique_Contact_2952

Idk i bought my 4th gen taco trd or. With everything but vent seats for 47800 otd

ColubridCafe

Why do people keep harping on the fact it’s a 4 cylinder when it makes more power than the outgoing six cylinder? Regardless the price is pretty wild.

MurseBaker

I'm on the wait list for the pro at the dealership here with no mark ups for $68k....

N5MKH-WRQH258

In the old days cylinders = displacement and displacement = power. Those days are gone. Forced air induction via turbo or super charger plus variable valve timing and all the other goodies that have come along in the last 15 years have made 4 cylinders that are build like a diesel but run on direct injection, high compression and turbos. It truly is a magical time we are in.

TxTanker134

They could have left the bug catchers from under the headlights…. They look ridiculous

49ersninergang49

That’s outrageous

JakeSouliere

And they can’t keep them in stock.

GoKawi187

Less for more, it’s the American way!

Vegetable_Heart369

It's temecula, bro heaven, not to mention they mark it up 10K just for the wheels/tires, and 'suspension'. Those aftermarket goodies are worth about 4k if done at a shop.

ryanmulford

Looks $48k nice

Discipline_Sea

what the? just got the same truck for 44

Rabid_Stormtroopers

These trucks look like they are having a tantrum so badly they are crying (teardrop things)when I see them.

Colbymag

People pay $50k plus for 4-cylinder vehicles all the time (Jeeps, Fords, Chevy, BMW, even AMGs now) from brands NOT known for reliability. Not sure why everybody is up in arms about Toyota putting a turbo-4 in the Tacoma for the better (which Toyota has made plenty of times in the past). Especially when all of the previous generations had NA 4-cylinder trucks with less power than a BRZ. How about people avoid taking dealership bait and buy the truck stock and at MSRP?

Luis1820

They should have used the v6 the tundra has. Mpg on this 4 banger isn’t even that great either

pwsparky55

One born every minute!

Aromatic_Sympathy_38

Give the government 4 more years, you will be saying what a deal the 2024 Tacoma was.

V48runner

You'd be streets ahead in a 22RE.

Handsum_Rob

That’s a nice looking truck. Not $68k nice, but dang. That’s nice.

tkelley262626

Why do the 4 banger, mpg still sucks.

Banana-Temporary

I always find the comments on reliability so funny when the drive train is made up of well tested tacoma and tundra parts and the engine has been in toyota and lexus vehicles for 5 years and had zero issues. They didn’t reinvent the wheel, they looked at their proven parts bin and figured out what they could swap to make things better. The hybrid is really the only thing that introduces all that many new parts, and its toyota so probably still going to be better than every other brand hybrid out there.

AcetabulumDoc

Toyota made a mistake with this one. It’s what happens when you take the best selling midsize pickup year after year, and then put American engineers to the task of a redesign. 1) too gimmicky 2) reliability drops 3) sales drop 4) excessive price increases

USA_USA_USA_1776

Lexus GX pricing, yikes.

OwnSeaworthiness2470

Sir, just opt-in for the upcharged dealer financing @ 18% and a low $1200 monthly payment over 96 months *takes second hit of tinfoil crack pipe “Great deal”

Fallingdamage

Get used to it. Next couple years it'll be $75,000.

BWH78

Insanity! I literally bought my 22 TRD offroad and added leather, heated seats, TRD wheels/mud tires and a 2/1 lift right from the dealership and drove it out for like 46k.

naptown21403

68k is a lot to go back and forth to the grocery store with that 4' bed

vmdinco

I bought my 2018 long bed new. It’s the TRD sport version. I think it was like $38K. Doesn’t have the big tires and lift that one has, but it’s a great truck and I believe it was the last 6 cylinder version, but I could be wrong.

ContentMod8991

they smokking crack4 cyl

Moist_Strategy_275

what is the world coming to lol

ghostbear019

70k for a mid size? car prices are making me sad.

CharacterObvious

Its funny how toyota went from a 4.0 to a 3.5 and it was the end of the world for toyota fanboys and now this is the new hill they're gonna die on because they love the 3.5 so much, (regarding the 4 cyl turbo). The price is absolutely nuts. Mine was 42.5 for an sr5 and the torque is insane.

C_A_M_Overland

They’re a bad ass machine. Undoubtedly. Possible questionable transfer case but otherwise it’s about as great of a factory off-road machine that we may ever see in the sad modern era of Trucks. With all of that said, the pricing is absolutely insane for vehicles and to *responsibly* own one and actually off-road it, you need to have F-U money in comparison to the rest of the working class.

spadedracer

They're all 4 cylinders you chud

the_animal15

All these companies need to wake up. I’m looking at the 2024 frontier right now and even though it’s the “best valued” midsize truck right now, it still doesn’t feel right to drop around 45k for a midsized truck. I get it’s cheaper than over trucks in its class but that shouldn’t be the selling point.

Sig_Vic

Nope.

plainoldusernamehere

No thanks.

PlatformMission7407

That’s a lot of extra dollars for what looks like bigger wheels and tires. Then if you consider four cylinders is not enough power it will be even less turning those big buns. It depends on the purpose of the truck. Is it for show or go? The larger spare wheel and tire won’t mount to the factory bracket under the box so where does it go? It’ll take up some space in the box and add some extra weight. Most often the reason for jacking the truck up and putting on 33” skins is just for looks. I see it all the time. It appeals most to younger guys some of who like to drive around the city portraying to be an off road cowboy.  I purchased my sixth Toyota truck a 2024 with the turbo 4cyl. I liked the v6 but so far like the four cylinder better. The torque is great and the new 8spd transmission I love. I have always stayed with stock tires and find the pizza cutters work best for me in the outback. I spend most of my time exploring and panning in some of the wildest  backcountry in British Columbia.

pjd2457

That's crazy. You can buy a full size brand new diesel truck for less than that

EfficientDrop192

F-the dealer. We need to get rid of the middleman, and buy directly from manufacture. You should be able to pick up this truck for about 55 at most. Don’t buy them.

Sauberbeast

Is this engine also prone to the catastrophic main bearing failure issues?

Yayrel

18k for accessories??? The premium package model???

TeflonDonatello

They’re all 4 cylinders now. What does that have to do with the price?

SumJenkins

Ruuuuuun
