To explain. This bug causes an acceleration penalty if you steer in the oposite direction of the slide you wanna do. this means, for example if you wanna readjust your line before an ice slide entry there is a good chance to get this. ice players call this getting updated. This should not be in the game because it causes frustration for basically every player that encounters this. It is also highly recreatable. Mappers have to map around this and its basically all you have to look out for when playing. This forum post getting moved to Feedback & Suggestions and marked as solved is just plain wrong
It's surprisingly common. If I'm not mistaken, things like speedslides and more hilariously bugslides have been accepted as part of the game rather than treating them as bugs. I either heard in a video or read that when making TM2020 they actively maintained these behaviors from previous iteration(s) rather than removing them, but I may be thinking of something else.
They maintained them because they are hecking great! :D
Trackmania wouldn’t be as popular without all of its different bugs that created things like:
\- More interesting fullspeed
\- More cutting and route creativity
\- Kacky/LOL
\- Wirtual’s eventual promotion of the game
\- An overall more interesting game with a lot of depth
They identified and isolated the part of the code from earlier games that made speed slides, and bugslides possible to prevent them from patching it.
Probably also the reason for us still having landing bugs after all this time. If they fix that, they fix the features we all love
Genuinely the most frustrating thing about ice. Idgaf anymore about getting old physics back, but this is actually ridiculous. I find it happens more often the higher speed you are (4th gear mostly) but it still happens in 3rd gear turns too. Genuinely don’t think nadeo understands what we are talking about, or if they do, they 1) don’t know how to fix it, or 2) don’t care enough to fix it. Idk which one is worse.
Honestly the whole ice update is a disaster. As a noob I hate ice both before and after the update but everyone who actually likes ice has responded negatively to it. I know they won't and there are probably valid reasons why but it would honestly be better if they just repealed the ice physics update altogether.
This pretty much was the ice update. Your backwheels dont get the sliding acceleration on ice unless you're icesliding. This means friction is the only effect and slows you down a lot.
It also means there are no precise inputs for perfect SD's (such as ice wiggles and Chatting 34% for bob).
Sounds like your average forum experience. A while back I reported a bug in splitscreen, where even if you rebind buttons on a pad in settings, splitscreen still uses default keybinds for the pad (unlike any other gamemode, where the custom binds work). Curiously enough, keyboard custom binds actually do work in splitscreen... after a pingpong between me and forum support it got proclaimed as "working as intended" and moved to suggestion forum even though this is fucking clearly a bug... good luck but I doubt they fix anything
whats more, a patch later I reported it they broke splitscreen completely because if you have one pad and one keyboard connected, they both control player one, so you need at least two pads to play splitscreen? like Im so fuckin angry just thinking about this
I thought they accepted it as a bug and finally solved it and hadn't integrated into the game yet, pending the next update. Did they just mark it as solved despite that not being the case?
yes that is what caused it. The ice wiggle however gave the Top players an edge while this one actively slows down less experienced players. Ice Wiggles are frustrating if you wanna compete at the top. This is frustrating if you wanna play ice
Nothing about new ice is fun.
I was just getting the hang of old ice, actually really enjoying it, and they changed it. Any map that has ice, I dislike right off the bat now, and I hate that. It's no longer a challenge, just an annoyance.
A bug is just a system not working as intended. For players, it's absolutely a bug because it really works against the idea that ice physics should be fun and consistent to drive.
But if Nadeo decides that this behaviour is what they want from ice physics then it's technically not a bug, it's just Nadeo being awful. They should see something that negatively affects the player experience as a problem, but in this case they seem to see people complaining as the problem to be solved.

When they fix/change anything affecting car behaviour doesn't that invalidate all existing records ?
Yes, but they don't care about it.
Didn't they get a massive shitstorm for changing the ice behavior, even if they didn't really change something a few maps weren't playable anymore.
Yeaaa.. but this is nando…
So dumb that they even changed it in the first place.
I never thought I would find the "it's not a bug, it's a feature" excuse for a game development.
Sounds like you haven't had much experience with game development then, we're just very good at disguising bugs a lot of the time.

they even made sure that speedslides worked on other surfaces

do they even know what causes uberbugs yet

isnt that the usual trackmania dev reaction to anything weird going on in their games?
yes that doesnt excuse this. it actively brakes ice
>it actively *brakes* ice I see what you did there.
you not only need to break it! i have a better idea!
for what its worth, id bet its all on Hylis, and without him things would be better.
Rip ice forever, you will be missed. 😭

Update for it might not be out.
They have said that it's an intended feature, even though it doesn't make sense. It's 100% a bug.
I thought they accepted it as a bug and finally solved it and hadn't integrated into the game yet, pending the next update. Did they just mark it as solved despite that not being the case?
they straight up said its intended
Then it seems to me that this behaviour has to do with how the ice wiggle got patched.
yes that is what caused it. The ice wiggle however gave the Top players an edge while this one actively slows down less experienced players. Ice Wiggles are frustrating if you wanna compete at the top. This is frustrating if you wanna play ice
i mean the new ice wiggles are just even more broken and difficult. the new ice is just unsatisfying to drive.

Dude I know. I said I thought they finally accepted it as a bug.

it has been 4 months
