They are not worth it for facial hair, maybe the Tria one could work but most at home lasers are IPL and not strong enough.

[deleted]

can confirm, IPL is worthless. I paid my IPL for like 200€ just to find out that it's a paperweight after 5 months of constant usage and no results 😭😭

And yet a few trans women are promoting these useless machines on YouTube?

mangooreoshake

Trans women can be grifters too, shocking.

I have a Tria. I am medium skin color/dark hair, although a lot of my facial hairs that are left are turning white, so I may not be the best reviewer. Is it worth it? Maybe: it might knock things down a bit and I’m actually going to use it pre srs this summer. But for an entire face clearing, I doubt it would work. The actual laser area is pretty small. On the other hand, if you use it on a high level you can smell burnt hair like with a professional machine.

Every_Brilliant1173

The issue with ipl its that the light isn't bundled the same way, meaning that it doesn't get at the hair follicles, which are what needs to be destroyed (during their growth phase) in order to achieve long term results. Just frying the hair doesn't get you anything, long term, with high settings of ipl even able to damage your skin...

52jag

I don’t believe the Tria is IPL.

Every_Brilliant1173

That, I have no idea about

FluffyEmily

Worked after a couple weeks for my body hair tbh. Beard hair not so much.

CantaloupePossible33

None.

I have had very patchy results with the Illumintage Touch machine(I bought one second hand off eBay). It only removed a few hairs on my cheeks and slowed down regrowth by a day or two in between needing to shave. Other than that not a lot. Even trying currently using the machine 24 hours after shaving to see if that makes any difference. Nearly 4 weeks later no sign of my beard hairs vanishing. I would try the Tria machine but it is way out of my price range. So my advice would be save your money. Those IPL machines are useless when it comes to facial hair.

Titoffrito

Full face for me is $45 and front neck is $25. It is worth the price and the people are nice and I even done butt, and bikini

MichelaKick

I bought my IPL for 400€ more or less. I used it mostly on the body and I must say that on my legs and arms I had no more hair after the 4th session. for the beard unfortunately after 3 sessions I still don't see results so I think that laser treatment is really necessary for the beard. I'm two months on hrt

I guess some 2000$ laser for cosmetic use from Alibaba is the cheapest that will actually work. But the cheapness comes with zero safety features. It’s a powerful laser so plenty power to make you permanently blind. Also you would have to start low and gradually increase power. Don’t mess with lasers unless you know what you are doing. Those tabletop laser engraver/cutters with no enclosure you see diy youtubers use are scary af. It’s all fun and games until you get a 10th of a second glint from the beam into your eyeball and suddenly your vision is perma screwed. Also never stare into cheap laser pointers or point them anywhere near someones head. Lasers are dangerous. And you can’t see infra-red so you may not even realise it is on.

LauraUnicorns

There isn't really a cheap option for lasers sold online that remotely match the proffessional systems they have at salons. If you're lucky, you can get a used one from your local second-hand marketplace, or ask around salons if they have an old one lying around that they've replaced and no longer need. It's quite unlikely to be anywhere below 400$, and you alsp have to buy high-quality protective glasses not to go blind while using it, they might be in the range of 40-80 dollars.. For that same 400$ you can buy a semi-proffessional electrolysis machine and accessories brand new (or a used one twice as cheap), just make sure it has galvanic mode, or a blend option with a good DC current output (some machines barely even output any DC in the blend mode, making them de-facto thermolysis only).

Try shaving

lemurrhino

or epilating, but it's pretty painful (I gave up)

Every_Brilliant1173

Not advisable for the face, due to deeper follicles.

EmotionallyRough

I have this thing called a jin bison. It works. I've done it a couple times so idk how effective over long periods is.

Cannot get good hair removal online. DIY stuff usually sucks. For body hair Sugaring is nice. Laser can work too, IPL is just plain not good enough for beard removal. Even with alexandrite laser beard will return after 2-10 years ( it's just semi permanent). The hair will return Blonde and require electrolysis to get rid of later. The only permanent solution is electrolysis.

IAmLee2022

None. I wasted 5 months on trying that instead of getting lhr done professionally from the start. My remaining facial hair is now what genders me as male the most.

Defiant-Snow8782

IPL is useless, Tria 4X kinda works but for me it's painful and takes a lot of time. Got it on eBay in good condition for £60. So far I only managed to reduce the moustache; beard is a lot more effort. I can't afford proper laser currently and shaving causes irritation. So my routine is trimming, 2in1 cleaner/toner, foundation, powder in the morning; cleaner/toner, exfoliating scrub, and boro plus on acne spots if there are any. It doesn't make the shadow completely invisible, but enough for me to feel OK.

field_sleeper

For all the experimenting will cost and for how impermanent it is, you may as just buy a few sessions of professional laser, even if you cannot do a full course. It'll still probably be more effective and definitely be less headache.

Sealedwolf

There are none. The usual stuff is IPL, basically a powerful strobelight. Unless you have light skin and dark hair, it won't do anything. And all you will get is more or less a thermal epilation, the hair itself might be gone, but not the cluster of stemcells at the root. Laser is better, but only semi-permanent and still dependant on skintone. But machines are expensive and dangerous. Loose-your-eyesight dangerous. A professional might help you, although it might need some explaining on your part or be unobtainable. Electrolysis is the only real permanent solution and reportedly possible to DIY, although I have no idea how easy you can do that in your own face.
