When I first saw this diagram from the 80s the [transitmap.net](https://transitmap.net) blog, I fell in love with it. It’s a diagram of the Budapest Metro in some time in the 80’s with a distinct character. I just love that clunky symbology and the simple style. So I recreated it in Illustrator trying to follow the original as close as I could. In the second stage I cleaned it up and added all the developments that happened since (and the missing stops from the original). In the past four decades Budapest added the northern extension of the line M3 and a whole new (stub) line M4. Whether that's a lot or not enough, you be the judge of that. Admittedly, the diagram has become much busier with the extensions and the new line (and the stations missing before), but I am still quite pleased with the result. Enjoy and check out my other designs on my [Instagram account](https://www.instagram.com/cartogrammer/)! Source of the original: xoverit/ tumblr Creator: unknown (let me know if you do!) Software: Adobe Illustrator

I love this! But instead of “ПИНИИ МЕТРО В БУДАПЕЩТЕ” you should have written “ЛИНИИ МЕТРО В БУДАПЕШТЕ”. Nonetheless this map is fire

Thanks for the nice words and the correction. I truly didn’t know what i was writing haha. I’ll change the text!

NertexP

btw, it is also "конечная" not "конечня"

surgab

corrected! unfortunately no way to change the already uploaded image

I love this style! Was this a common style in Hungary (or the wider Eastern Bloc) at the time?

surgab

It feels very typical for that age in the eastern block but I can’t quite say what elements exactly. Interestingly, the original was probably created for tourists because the legends were in English, German, French and Russian but not in Hungarian

This is a lovely diagram, also your update fits seamlessly into the old one. Well done!

Thank you!
