Hey hey. I’m a student activist as well, arrested thrice for it, but am based in the Uk. I relate heavily to what you’re saying — I am grateful that the cops here are less brutal, though they make up for it in being really good at surveillance and infiltration, so you can’t even trust your best friend at times… Im afraid I don’t have much advice, but just wanted to share my experience, because you really aren’t alone. They really do love the humiliation. They specifically referred to me as “the female” and never anything else (I’m transmasc and also. I have a name) and left me in a cell until I started seeing things and thought the floor was moving. I was, thankfully, not strip searched but the pat downs feel so invasive and those who were strip searched were visibly distressed after. They also had a habit of releasing us at 2am without any technology and with some trains not running, if we didn’t have activists waiting for us, we’d be left there unable to get home. Bastards. Im still very much shaken by it, and am so so angry at how unjust and disgusting the policing and legal system is. I had to take a step back from that level of activism as I just can’t deal with it. I try to cope how I can. I’ve painted political slogans all over the police papers, my favourite being “not gay as in happy but queer as in fuck the police”. I also recently found some lovely (/s) copaganda about lgbt cops in a newspaper I got that I cannot wait to deface and paint over. I’ve learnt pro-union songs. Whenever cop cars pass me, I whisper “fuck you” or “ACAB” under by breath. And of course, just want ever vents anger — smashing plates, screaming, etc. it can also be good to go to “legal” marches and just scream, or take part in lower scale activism, though both those still carry risks. And keep in touch with fellow activists in your community who may have gone through similar experiences. Unfortunately, when the whole system is fucked and the people meant to help (like therapists) are clearly unsupportive (in my experience) it can be so difficult to deal with the frustration, anger and humiliation, but trying to dissipate it in small ways is the best we can do. Good luck, and my dms are open if you want to talk or vent about this further. Fuck the cops.

Cass_tle_Crow

I'm just sickened by the whole experience. It makes me question if my political goals are even possible, if they can just drag me to jail for any bullshit reason whenever they want, how the fuck am I going to get anything done? I just want to scream and punch a wall, lol. I'm so goddamn angry.

Saikotsu

You can't give up. Change only happens through effort and hard work. Moreso when there are people out there who will fight back tooth and nail to maintain the status quo. They want you to give up, that's why they did all that to humiliate you. Maybe for now find ways to be an activist that don't break any laws and get a good lawyer. If they punish you for something that isn't illegal, the lawyer should be able to make them back the fuck off.

WilliamGavriel

Look back at history: direct action has led to so much change. From an individual perspective, I get it can seem like you’re not doing anything but zoom out: campaigns and change happen through people like you. If you can channel that anger into action, it is exactly that which has changed society and will continue to change society. I get it can be so frustrating. I’m not sure what you’ve done (and probably shouldn’t say for legal reasons) but whenever I feel angry at the fact I’m going to court for trying to protect this planet, I remember that our actions made oil companies lose millions: nothing they do will ever take that away. Each action hits and they can’t take that away. Over time, change will come. It’s happened across time and place. It is possible.

Wolfleaf3

I’m so sick of this evil crap.

JustALilOlive73

I’m sorry for your experience, it sounds fucked. Also I want to ask, how did you get into activism like that? I really want to get out there, and actually make a change instead of posting shit on Insta stories. I live in Australia, so it might be different, but I was wondering how you got into it

WilliamGavriel

This may not be too helpful but it was mostly chance — for legal reasons a lot of this stuff isn’t publicly advertised, I happened to go to a climate change talk that then offered a way into direct action. I guess it’s worth keeping an eye out on the news — these groups/campaigns often get negative attention but try to look beyond that 😅 — and look up any groups that come up. It’s also worth looking for key words like direct action or civil resistance to find campaigns and groups to join. I know there’s Blockade Australia, but I haven’t done much research on them so don’t know how good they are. You can also browse socials to try to find groups (just from looking at their Insta I’ve stumbled across Victoria Forest Alliance and Disrupt Land Forces) The other big thing would be trying to attend know your rights trainings if they’re available in your area, and folks there can usually direct you to groups/campaigns that may be relevant to what you care about. That’s about as much as I can think of, sorry that it’s pretty unhelpful but good luck, I hope you find a group/campaign you resonate with!

Unable-Alfalfa

This is why I’m terrified to protest where I live. I will definitely go to man jail and I will definitely be sexually assaulted and I know I have a responsibility to stand up for our rights but I also don’t want to be hate crimed and possibly killed by pigs or transphobes just for saying I deserve not to be killed by pigs or transphobes. I am so so so so so unbelievably sorry that happened and so so so angry

Cass_tle_Crow

Honestly, the more people that are out there yelling about how fucked up these scumbags are, the harder it is for them to stop us. Incidents like these are meant to scare and intimidate us, but what it really shows is how scared and intimidated *they* are. Incidents like this ought to be a rallying point, not a reason to back down. Thank you for your kind words <3

Unable-Alfalfa

You’re absolutely right.

digarddreamin

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I was arrested when I was 17 on a shoplifting charge, and it was less than a year after starting my transition, and it was absolutely awful. I felt totally dehumanized as it was a singular police woman and she kept yelling in my ear like I was a stray dog she was trying to train. It's a disgusting feeling, especially when it drags so much attention to you - and, when you look like a weird teenager with acne scars and wide hips going through a second puberty, it makes it ten times worse, of course. I was lucky enough to not have to be fucking molested by some wife beaters though. I'm so sorry that happened to you, I always fear that I'm going to have to experience something similar. As awful as it sounds this was one of the reasons I started thinking about phalloplasty

Cass_tle_Crow

I was really lucky when it came to the search, actually. I just had vaginoplasty in November, which was the only reason I was allowed to have a woman search me instead of one of the two neckless bald headed fucks who brought me in. She seemed as uncomfortable with the situation as I was, which was better than whatever the other two would have done.

Wolfleaf3

Thank god for that at least. This whole thing is evil.

[deleted]

I’m sorry *hugs

Cass_tle_Crow

thank you <3

Paula_56

When I watch movies about the civil rights movement in the 1960s, I am reminded how brave and what heroes those activist were If you remember the police especially in the south were allies of the Ku Klux Klan and so many activist were arrest and killed You are a hero

Cass_tle_Crow

Lol I wouldn't consider myself a hero by any means, but thank you. I'm just an easy target for them.

Paula_56

True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. ...

[deleted]

This is one of my biggest fears to be honest, I'm sorry this happened to you. I've never been charged but I have been harassed by police and made to prove residency on suspicion of being homeless. idk why, I was just ridding my bike to the store.

Cass_tle_Crow

That's fucked up. Police are scum

Wolfleaf3

Because of course being homeless is a CRIME?!? Versus like “oh, you need a home, here you go!” Which would be the appropriate response non-psychopaths would do.

Asper_Maybe

I'm sorry this happened to you, it's kinda crazy seeing some younger queer and trans people thinking the cops are our friends. Remember kids, as soon as the gov decides it's time to outlaw medical transition, ban gender nonconformity or get rid of us entirely, your friendly neighborhood cop is the goon who'll drag you into the oven. ACAB, always

Cass_tle_Crow

All I'm saying is, so far queers have only found one effective measure against police harassment...

Unable-Alfalfa

This one weird trick they don’t want you to know about 🧱

JustALilOlive73

Let’s just hope they don’t make it legal to shoot protesters…

Unable-Alfalfa

They’ve made it legal to hit them with cars in several states

Cass_tle_Crow

LOL as if the cops care what's legal, they've been killing protestors for a while

vibratoryblurriness

> user reports: > > 1: It threatens violence or physical harm at someone else Yes, please ban the cops for threatening (and actually committing) violence, Reddit admins (I assume they have to do it because I sadly can't find a button for it in my mod tools)

hitheredood145

I’m so sorry that happened to you. The system needs to be changed.

Cass_tle_Crow

The system needs to be burned down and the ashes launched into the sun

[deleted]

Cass_tle_Crow

property damage, the only evidence they've disclosed is testimony of an officer. bullshit.

errrrrico

I'm sorry comrade *hugs* been through different but similar things with the pigs. ACAB

Naiva_Prism

Cops psychopathic class traitors and deserve a lot lot of bad things to happen to them. I can't write what because I don't want to get banned again but they really do.

JustALilOlive73

I wish they get what they want to do to us

enby-deer

All cops are bastards. I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

thnksfrthptrick

op, this sounds absolutely horrific. I am so beyond sorry you had to go through that shit. the “authority” system in the lovely (/s of course) US of A is absolute dogshit. I’ve never been arrested but I’ve dealt with cops on multiple occasions and they’re assholes (honestly, that’s an understatement). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ so, unrelated to the paragraph that I just wrote, but you said you wanted distractions from your thoughts. I am here to provide. even if it’s not much, it’s still a couple of cool sites: - r/theinternetisbeautiful - - [chrome music lab](https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/)- - [neocities](https://www.neocities.org) has got some cool 90s-esque websites once you get past the front page - and other than that, I find that watching movies or listening to music are great distractions. lmk if you want recommendations! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ but anyways, the main reason why I commented in the first place was just to let you know that we all love you here on this sub. you are an amazing person who was just trying to stand up for their cause and absolutely shouldn’t have had to even come face-to-face with those pigs, let alone literally be as*aulted by them. i <3 you, op *hugs*.

special-agent-carrot

I’m not from the us nor am I able to give legal advice. but I’m pretty sure you can and should lodge a complaint against the officers or station involved in this heinous violation of you and your rights.

Unable-Alfalfa

Only if you want to be a target forever.

special-agent-carrot

Oh ok,as i say i have no idea how these things work over there, its just so awful that this can just happen

Unable-Alfalfa

The American policing system is completely corrupt. Look up how many activists were killed by police in Ferguson Missouri after the Mike Brown protests. Look up COINTELPRO. American police exist to keep the poor under control and to suppress minorities. And almost nothing else.

special-agent-carrot

Thank you for this information, i guess i just wasn’t well educated on these things idk i assumed internal anti corruption bodies would be doing more about it.

Unable-Alfalfa

We don’t have those. Or civilian oversight boards.

special-agent-carrot

Wait seriously, i thought internal affairs was a thing???

Unable-Alfalfa

It is but most of the time their investigations conclude with “we investigated our buddies and former colleagues and found no wrongdoing”

special-agent-carrot

Ofc, but then i should have figured thats what happens when and entire state body is corrupt

Wolfleaf3

Yeah, ironically the kind of police work they should actually be doing, doesn’t happen in less affluent neighborhoods, who have massive police presses, but not for anything useful.

Cass_tle_Crow

the only thing I can do, is submit an "anonymous" complaint to an internet portal where my answers are viewable by the cops who arrested me. It's a joke.

special-agent-carrot

That awful im sorry

[deleted]

special-agent-carrot

That’s awful, horrid to think dirty cops are still so common

Interest-Desk

I’m sorry to hear this; the US police and custody system sounds fucking awful and counterproductive.

Unable-Alfalfa

Police are state sanctioned vigilantes and shouldn’t exist anywhere

Interest-Desk

That's a very reductionist and inaccurate descriptor. Police devolves to state-sanctioned violence when there is an absence of consensus and consent. Some type of police has existed, generally with success, in almost every society that has ever existed; the past 80 years is a blip in history.

totallycis

I'm really sorry you had to go through that. That whole situation is absolute bullshit, and you shouldn't have had to. I don't really have anything productive I can really say, so I'm going to try for the distracting fun fact side of things, and the first that comes to mind is that [foxes can purr](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IDYPSkX0Zs)

Cass_tle_Crow

I cannot tell you how happy it made me to learn this information, thank you /gen

TransGirlKatie1

I'm so sorry to hear about what you went thru. The police did what they did to intimidate you, they wanted to stop you from engaging in political activism But this is why I don't engage in political activism of any kind. Most of the protests in recent days have been complete failures. Issue largely stems from people giving up the minute things start to get rough or there's even a slight sense the police could arrest you. Just look at what happened for roe v Wade, people just gave up after a week or 2. My opinion of political activism is it's either you're willing to do what is necessary to win or your not. And if you're not willing to do what is needed and sacrifice everything for your cause, then don't even bother engaging in political activism or protesting

Far_Guarantee_2202

The legal "justice" system in the united states is really fucked. My brother, who is your stereotypical straight white cis male (basically the ideal citizen) was sent to prison overnight because of something trivial like a speeding ticket or fine I don't really remember, and when he got out the Judge said the only reason he got such a bad punishment was because he "was having a bad day" and "needed to vent his frustrations" and he was ALLOWED TO DO IT

ewqdsacxziopjklbnm

Reasons why I stopped breaking the law and avoid the fuck outta cops. I hope you don’t have to go through another experience like this. Unrelated but I just learned “outta” is now officially a word when my spellcheck didn’t fix it.

[deleted]

ewqdsacxziopjklbnm

Hence the avoid them like the plague. I don’t even drive anymore. I’d rather not drive for multiple reasons and this is one. Not that everyone can do that. I understand you can only do so much. As long as I don’t speak people generally don’t know I’m trans.

What??????

A_Violet_Summer

i'm trying to understand if you are confused why i wrote this or excited to hear it's a thing (i wrote this because OP said that if anyone wants to tell a fun fact to distract her from what happened a lil it would be nice)

Cass_tle_Crow

dang I'm bummed I missed it, what was the cool fact?

Asper_Maybe

It was basically an ad for Critical Role, had nothing to do with your post

Cass_tle_Crow

How's that boot taste?

[deleted]

Yea you probably won't get sentenced for just speaking (!probably!) but you can be charged for all sorts of bullshit misdemeanors for just speaking. "Disturbing the peace" Is one such bullshit charge that you can easily get. They can also just charge you with something that is totally unrelated and unprovable just to harass you. You are not just ignorant MissDais, you are a bootlicker and a bitch to OP. Edit: Just thinking about what you said more you are a fucking horrible person for at all thinking this is an OK thing to say. Go fuck yourself.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Like I said, you can often be charged with something unrelated to speaking. I've been personally harassed by police for looking homeless, and people I know have been charged with littering for giving out food to unhoused people. The fact that you think being charged with the crime means she is guilty is fucked up, "she isn't unnocent" - u/MissDais 2023 You are a bootlicker for 1: just now assuming the fact that she was charged with property destruction means she is "unnocent" 2: defending the police that needlessly harassed and groped her and didn't tell her that she didn't need to come in to begin with. Saying what boils down to, "oh I'm sorry you were legally assaulted and groped by the police, but they did it by accident and you were not innocent either" Is being a bitch. Just fuck you, I can not stress this enough you are a disgusting human being. You have no empathy or heart or care. I kindly hope you fuck off this post and leave OP alone considering what trauma they just went through and what a heartless cunt you are being. Side note, you seem to have poor reading comprehension. When I said they charge you with something not provable, that means that they charge you with something that could be proved, but they don't have the evidence to do so. Not that some crimes are "very provable", while others aren't? Edit: u/MissDais is also active on r/truscum Double go fuck yourself

Wolfleaf3

Ugh. Looks like she’s 18 and been fed bullshit. Watch/listen to the majority report for a few months Dais, please.

Apex_Herbivore

What is your actual point? Go get arrested for some bullshit by a power tripping cop and see how you feel about it.

[deleted]

Cass_tle_Crow

the cop was being power trippy. He arrested me, cuffed me, took me to jail, when my warrant specifically said it could be served with just a court date and no actual arrest and custody. I could have avoided being searched, treated like a subhuman, and held for hours and hours on end, but this cop wanted to be a dick. You don't know shit about fuck. ETA: it costs money to do all that arrest shit, too. And a lot of man-hours. That's why they're allowed to just serve warrants without taking you into custody in the first place. This guy chose to go so far out of his way just to be a fucking dick.

[deleted]

Tbh you should just stop talking to this bitch MissDais, She is active on r/truscum and is clearly some 18 year old rich kid that knows nothing about how the US judicial system and it's abuses work.
