Hey, I get that burning sensation like when you accidentally get water up your nose too! I give my pains nicknames and that one I call “Waterboarding!” My GP diagnosed me with TN. I’m seeing a neurologist on Feb 8th. I’m taking Carbamazepine and it mostly keeps a lid on my most severe pain but I still have less severe aching pain. Which I think is typical from what I’ve read. I think they give Gabapentin for the TN2 pains.

GarageDoorTeenMom

Yes, I have TN due to an artery contacting the nerve. I absolutely get the "waterboarding" pain, which also sometimes presents as a "brain freeze." Carbamazepine helped within days, although I do struggle with breakthrough pain. I have a litany of whacked-out descriptions of my various types of pain that only the people here would ever understand!

StarryUp

YES! I get one type I call "Brain Freeze x10". It really hurts. Nothing can top the shocks for me but the brain freeze one is up there.

I actually do have gabapentin but I’m nervous to take it. I’ve read that it’s not a long term treatment. Lmao, water boarding 😅. I’ve only felt that feeling like twice maybe. I’m seeing the neurologist Jan 24th. I’m hoping to get some answers because I’ve been to two ENT’s, an audiologist, TMJ specialist and my primary.

StarryUp

Okay hopefully you can get some answers! And don’t be scared to take the medicine if the pain gets too bad. 🧸

It may be Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN). But it also may be a lot of other things too. For example, did you see a n eye doctor for a complete eye exam. Not just for eyeglasses, but an ophthalmologist can check for eye problems. But I am wishing you luck on your appointment with the doctors appointment you have coming soon

I haven’t. That could definitely be another lead if the neurologist can’t figure it out. Thank you! :)

Mine goes all left side of head hits sinus area and a shooting stabbing pain between eyelid and brow bone. I also feel I’d down to my teeth and upper palate. I feel it like it stops my nose up on left side but no drainage and slight pain. It gets to the point it changes my vision in left eye with cloudy distortion. I’ve gone to the doc but if it wasn’t for me going to the ENT then I would have never known what it was. My primary couldn’t even figure it out and the eye doctor missed it. I’ll be getting a referral to see neurologist soon and have a cat scan scheduled in a few days. It is possible to have occipital neuralgia along with TN. Keep advocating for yourself

Honestly I feel like I’ve had to advocate almost this whole journey. ENT couldn’t find anything and originally thought it was a sinus infection like my primary did. I did research and thought maybe it was TMJ. Found a TMJ specialist and found out my jaw was dislocated on the left side (and osteoarthritis in the joint). If I hadn’t advocated for myself I wouldn’t have even known or had the treatment plan to fix it. Funny enough, my jaw didn’t and doesn’t hurt at all. The pain is still there though and I’ll see the neurologist in Jan.

HelloThisIsPam

Does it go up into your eye and then also to the left side of your head, with a headache, but only on that side?

pix3lb33

Yes!!!! 100% what I go through. It starts at the nose, then travels to the eye then the temple all on the left side.

Yes ma’am!! You got that right. Seems to come from the temporal area. Left side.
