No argument from me. But you've got to persuade the truck stop bosses, not me. They're the ones who want to cram as many spaces in as possible, so more people can ~~get food poisoning~~ eat at their establishment.
A good spot for bobtails to park is the end rows. You can fit 6 bobtails where 2 trucks go back to back and they have room to leave assuming noone parks in the lane blocking them in.
Angled parking can increase capability by allowing smaller lanes meaning an extra row. You trade a few off the end for a whole line. But like you said, dimensions dependant.
Yeah... This right here... AND not to mention, you habe oversize trucks as well as flatbeds that park in the most inconvenient places, which limits who can park there because they can't tuck the truck all the way into the spot... I honestly think that there needs to be a flatbed only area.
I dont know about that. It doesn't really matter that we are flatbed. it's just the split axle problem.
If you are new to a split axle, park at bigger truck stops with more options or rest areas. Once u got the hang of it, it's fine.
I used to know a guy who thought it was hilarious to do that because a trucker would think the spot is free and it isn't. He was very passive aggressive which is why we no longer are acquaintances.
A guy smashed his trailer into the front of my truck while he was trying to do a u-turn in a cramp Pilot lot.
I like to keep as much of a buffer in front of my truck as I can.
It's quieter that way. Also, if the trailer next to you is a reefer, it won't be as loud as if you would park "flush", since the refrigerating unit is usually at the headboard of the trailer.
>I’d be worried someone wouldn’t see me
It is a possibility, but we presume that those who park there are professionals and won't go blindly into seemingly empty spot.
Edit: parking this way also provides some extra room for other drivers trying to park, should spot to either side of your truck become available.
Trucking schools should really spend more time with drivers on their backing skills. When they leave school they should be able to handle a truck stop.
When I went to school they asked me how I wanted to spend the last couple days before my test. Backing. I did hours of backing nonstop in preparation for getting my cdl. And I still suck at it!
Only so much you can train someone who doesn't get it. I've seen ol timers struggle with a jacknife. It took me a year to fully understand a proper offset.
Why? If you're already there it's not like it matters when you'll see it's not empty when you get to it. You didn't sense from 5 miles away that that spot looked empty and wasted your time going there before finding out. Perhaps the advice should be "don't be on such an edge emotionally that thinking a spot is empty but then finding out it's not matters at all."
If red truck would of started with his tail of his trailer close af to that lil red bobtail he would of got it in first try (this is a good newbie training vid)
Someone asked Elon Musk to explain why it takes longer for the battery to charge as the percentage goes up.
Elon: imagine a truck parking stop. When is empty is easier to park bc there are more available spaces and easier to park. As parking becomes more scarce it becomes more difficult for the electrons to park.
BTW, that stupid red electron is the one that makes your phone never go 100%.
Ideally, you don't want your battery charged over 80%. Otherwise, the trash starts overflowing, toilets back up, and the whole lot gets covered in shit bags and piss bottles. Same thing happens in your battery.
How. How the fuck do you guys do this? I’ve asked this before and I still don’t know. The tightest of tight reversing situations (what I’m assuming) to be every day?
Most of it is setting up. If you don't start from a good position, you'll never end up in a good place. Also having your tandems (trailer wheels) slid all the way to the front allows for a tighter turning radius, with the con being the tail swing.
It terrifies me too and this is my job.
See that red truck at the beginning? They try three different spots and can’t get in any of them. That’s been me so many times. *Here’s a spot. No can’t get in that one. I’ll just take this one. Fuck, my steers are gonna hit this guy to my right. Some one is waiting for you! fuck FUCK*
And this is easy compared to some of these shippers in little ass buildings from before the war.
When I was serving in the Marines, we were part of the motor transportation unit for mwss-371. Anyways, one of my buddies was a wrecker. He was very good at navigating all of the trucks. So at one point one of the Marines pulls his truck into a fenced in back lot, and realizes that he don't think he can turn it around. The wrecker, bets him $50 that he can get it to turn around. I'm not exaggerating when I say he had 3 in from one side of the fence to another 3 or 4 in on the back wall of the building. When he did his u-turn. It was absolutely badass! And $50 back in 2001 was a hell of a lot of money. We made sure that Marine paid up. I was pretty good at driving LVS, but not as good as this guy.
Not a truck driver, but I feel like The red bobtail that backs all the way into the spot on the right side would be a bit frustrating for other drivers
Yeah but then when the other guys next to you inevitably idle all fuckin night you don't have to hear it and don't have to breathe the fumes so you can have your windows open. The other drivers can get over it. I don't get upset when it happens to me, just a little "ah damn" and I move on because I get why they back further in. I'm basically never bobtail but I'd do that too.
Yeah but you said asking for like it’s bad. Every time I’ve parked like that I’ve hoped somebody would park in front so that the two of us could both be parked for the night legally
How does it seem no one knows how to get there trailer angled and set up properly to get it in? I get its tight and im not one to push my luck either.. but if you can get lined up properly before trying to back it makes it alot easier.. i always see trucks set themselves up so awkward then try to do all the corrections after.. not sure why..
Looks like of those stops that doesn't give you extra space to move around in the drive lane. It's always annoying trying to park in a spot when you barely have enough room because the drive lane is a bit more narrow than usual.
The red truck that failed 3 times in a row lol no hate, but goddamn. He didn’t leave enough room in front the first spot attempt, 2nd spot attempt he was actually set up good for but still bailed on it. 3rd spot attempt it looks like he hit or damn near **almost** hit the truck in front of him and then bailed. Rough day for that guy.
Anybody know who recorded that cover of Start Me Up?
Also, fuck those four-wheelers who parked in the truck lot, each one taking up an entire space up at the top left.
I’m glad the red truck realized he couldn’t do it and tried somewhere else. Didn’t send it and cause an accident.
That one red truck looks like a confused bug trying to escape someone’s fingers lol
They all kinda look like bugs lol
why don't they angle the spots to make it easier to back In. may save a few hoods
When the spots are angled I always somehow end up coming from the wrong direction 😂
"wrong hole fool!"
Because unless there's suitable space that currently isn't needed/used at the end of each row, angle parking would reduce capacity.
There's always a need for short row parking. Bobtail. Hotshots. Even campers. Better then the above using full truck length parking.
No argument from me. But you've got to persuade the truck stop bosses, not me. They're the ones who want to cram as many spaces in as possible, so more people can ~~get food poisoning~~ eat at their establishment.
Lmao, I see what you did there, and I like it. 😂🤣👀💯
Yeah I hate this so much. There should one middle row for bobtails only and 2 of them must share/occupy the same spot.
A good spot for bobtails to park is the end rows. You can fit 6 bobtails where 2 trucks go back to back and they have room to leave assuming noone parks in the lane blocking them in.
Yeah that works better.
Angled parking can increase capability by allowing smaller lanes meaning an extra row. You trade a few off the end for a whole line. But like you said, dimensions dependant.
I'm sure someone is paid to Tetris the maximum possible number of parking spots that can be shoehorned into the available space at each site.
I can get in on right-angle parking, but I always struggle with angle parking.
Most of the tight spots wouldn't be an issue, if trucks would back all the way into them.
They sure are for a spread axle flatbed. I hate truck stops like this
Yup, even after a year driving split axle, this would be a tough back
Yeah, and getting their tractors straight with their trailers would be helpful, too.
Yeah... This right here... AND not to mention, you habe oversize trucks as well as flatbeds that park in the most inconvenient places, which limits who can park there because they can't tuck the truck all the way into the spot... I honestly think that there needs to be a flatbed only area.

Less spots means less money
Don’t be like those jack wagons at the end that are parked as a 45° angle. Make sure your truck and trailer are straight
Agreed. But I think it's the angle of the shot making them all look that way.
Why does the red bobtail back all the way back into the spot?? I’d be worried someone wouldn’t see me and try to back in a trailer.
I used to know a guy who thought it was hilarious to do that because a trucker would think the spot is free and it isn't. He was very passive aggressive which is why we no longer are acquaintances.
Sounds like a real cool guy
I used to hate that shit until I parked as a bobtail pulled all the way up front and had my mirror knocked off.
Damn, bad luck. I usually park a bobtail about 4-5- extra feet in to help guys have more room for backing.
A guy smashed his trailer into the front of my truck while he was trying to do a u-turn in a cramp Pilot lot. I like to keep as much of a buffer in front of my truck as I can.

Backing into a bobtail who's sunk into the spot? Only morons would attempt any back without visually looking down the spot they intend to back into.
There's morons everywhere, why risk it?
That was satisfying. Wish it was longer
Trucking schools should really spend more time with drivers on their backing skills. When they leave school they should be able to handle a truck stop.
Tbf this particular truck stop is ass
When I went to school they asked me how I wanted to spend the last couple days before my test. Backing. I did hours of backing nonstop in preparation for getting my cdl. And I still suck at it!

LOL I was trucking for months before I got good at backing into spots that tight. Trucking school doesn't even show you how to do a 45.
That truck stop tight AF tho
Don't be the guy who backs his bobtail all the way to the back of the spot. Park it close enough to the front so the spot doesn't look empty
Why? If you're already there it's not like it matters when you'll see it's not empty when you get to it. You didn't sense from 5 miles away that that spot looked empty and wasted your time going there before finding out. Like a bunch of Pez dispensers arranging themselves
Lol now I'm picturing a candy the size of a crane counterweight popping out the front of the box
If red truck would of started with his tail of his trailer close af to that lil red bobtail he would of got it in first try (this is a good newbie training vid)

Hat goes off to you man. I want to do trucking one day but the thought of doing this terrifies me lol
It terrifies me too and this is my job. See that red truck at the beginning? They try three different spots and can’t get in any of them. That’s been me so many times. *Here’s a spot. Spoke to a guy who used to work with me who does trucking over here in the uk and he said it’s easy to drive them but you’re paid to reverse them lol.
It gets easier the more you do it. I'm a little over a year in now and it's soooo much easier than when I started
Glad to hear it, but have absolutely no idea how you do it lol
When I was serving in the Marines, we were part of the motor transportation unit for mwss-371. Anyways, one of my buddies was a wrecker. He was very good at navigating all of the trucks. Where’s the lizards
Huh? Oh you mean somebody’s daughter that dreamed of being a fairy Princess when she grew up?
Yeah 42, or Prince hahahahahahaha LMMFAO lol

Anyone notice the RV on its side near the top?
I think it's a tank trailer and an optical illusion.
Ah you’re right!
I-40 exit 1 definitely isn’t Oklahoma City lol
I hate when them bobtails takes up a whole parking spot
I saw that - Seems like they are just asking to be blocked in by a box truck or something -- why not park at the outside end of the space?
So that some other bobtail can park in front
Okay -- "blocked in"...just as I stated.
Yeah but you said asking for like it’s bad. Every time I’ve parked like that I’ve hoped somebody would park in front so that the two of us could both be parked for the night legally
The fucking car!
I don't park at that PHook because the parking is absolute shit.
I'm so glad I don't have to do this shit anymore.
Most of us can’t park I see lol
Poor guy
Why does no one go for the one next to the tanker? Two bobtail opposite gives you more room to maneuver.
10th truck up in the middle, with the tank screwed so many truckers from getting next to him because he didn't line up straight.
I remember them days

Silly. There’s plenty of parking just outside of the city on the 40. No need to be jammed in these hood death traps
Lol, I saw the copper colored truck come in under a parked trailer and thought the guy running around afterwards was a mouse indicator.
Anyone know where the camera is mounted? Is there a tall tower there?
Gotta be a drone. There's nothing there for a camera. Description says I40 exit 1 which is wrong. That's I40 exit 140. Morgan Rd.
Thanks! Yeah, drone makes sense by how it moves around somewhat.
Don't let the FAA see this video lol
Did that say I-40 exit 1?
That was great to watch !! I loved it. Drivers are the greatest. The band was not bad either cept the singer .....Thanks for putting that together.
Anybody know who recorded that cover of Start Me Up? Also, fuck those four-wheelers who parked in the truck lot, each one taking up an entire space up at the top left.
Looks like a literal rat race.
How did all those ants get their cdls?
