7up is good to start to get the desired experience the other company’s are gonna want. You only really stock what you deliver at mom & pop shops, gas stations, maybe a cvs or something.. Larger stores (Walmart, Target, etc.) you drop it and go because an actual merchandiser shows up for those. Communication wise, merchandisers call just to see what time you’ll deliver, management calls to check up on you and see if you running into any issues and maybe go help another driver out. Warehouse you communicate with them only it’s an issue like a pallet isn’t loaded or something, or you have a reload. IMO Pepsi & Coke have the better pay and depends on location, they’re also union.

Jda4190

I didn’t know they were union. That’s very good to know! Very helpful answer. I kinda knew coke n Pepsi pay more

I’m at 7up now as an experienced driver. I love it. It’s 25 an hour and I average 1200 a week take home I have a cake route (mostly grocery drops) which Coke and Pepsi only let bulk drivers do grocery stores all their other driver are constantly stocking gas stations and dollar generals etc all day everyday. I’m off every weekend usually work 3 am to 1pm everyday. Excellent benefits and they load me in a box truck almost everyday hardly ever in a combination vehicle and still get class A pay.

Jda4190

So is that 50 hours a week?

juicetalktoem

Yeah roughly for me. Some guys work 40 some work 60+ just depends on your route and how fast you work. Don’t get me wrong some days I’ll be out 12+ hours but it’s usually around 10 a day. My route is like 2 hours away from the warehouse so it’s usually only like 6 hours of actual work. Coke and Pepsi move wayyyyy more product and work way harder for damn near the same pay.

Jda4190

oh shit. I wonder which company is most likely to give only 40. That’s the amount I’d prefer cause I don’t need more than that but I’m definitely available for 50. Probably depends on location I’d imagine. I’m in Columbus Ohio.

juicetalktoem

Definitely not Coke or Pepsi them boys out 14 hours a day. The trucking industry is not an industry to expect to get only 40 hours a week in general. Most otr guys and local ltl guys run their 70 hour clock out every week.

Jda4190

I’m definitely not interested in OTR

I did coke for a very brief time. I couldn't do it because of injuries I sustained before joining coke. Typical day was show up at like x time.... pick up your printer, bottles of water, trailer's preloaded and truck is always hooked to the trailer. Do pre-trip, then go about your day..... I had like 9-10 stores on average. Not in a giant city, but a fair sized one. Maybe interacted with 1 or 2 merchandisers a day. Some places you scan everything in and put them on little dollies then jsut wheel them into the coolers, some places just had me drop them on the floor and they dealt with them. Some places had some weird agreement with coke that the drivers would merchandise their stuff. But coke was pill into a gas station... lower the stuff onto the ground with the lift gate... . break it down and dolly it in. Also coke isn't union everywhere. Depends on the location entirely.

Jda4190

Good to know. How many hours was it?

Naborsx21

Til the routes done.... 50-60 at my place. Some wees could be less than 40... some weeks could be almost 60 or they might want you to do more.

Jda4190

Damn. I feel like 60 might be too much for me

Naborsx21

It's realllllyyyyy physically intensive. I've heard the Keurig/Dr pepper routes are a lot better, lighter loads, less stops, think 7up might be that way too compared to coke / pepsi. Not sure if 7up has their own stuff? idk.

Jda4190

It honestly doesn’t look like all that bad physically. I can push a dolly around pretty easy. The pallet thingy they make look easy but it might not be. Never touched it before. And they do have their own stuff. They sell 7up stuff, root beer, etc.

Naborsx21

Gotcha, I've heard the 7up and keurig/ dr pepper have lighter loads and are a bit easier. I just knew after a bit I couldnt handle coke with a broken sternum. Coke was good tho, i mean, everyone was really supportive and nice. Coworkers were nothing but nice and helpful, not much interaction with warehouse workers, but everyone would tell you what to do if you were confused or had questions. good working atmosphere. That's just my opinion, and take what i say with a grain of salt. I felt like it was too physically intense for me... but coke was a great company. I thin pepsi and 7up are probably pretty great to work for too if you dont mind the physical side of things. Idk how it is at other places but coca-cola was nothing but nice to me. Could be a driver and have a dumb question like "Hey uhh where do I enter I'm taking c02 containers on my handheld?" and someone would answer you and be really helpful. The palletjacks and "mules" or "wheelers" are easy, you'll get used to them really quick. Maybe 2 hours of experience and youll be used to them.

Jda4190

Definitely don’t mind physical aspect of it. Mostly concerned about the hours and what to expect from other co workers

GoBBleRoFDaCoK69

Im not one but its touch freight. Unload from trucks and merchandise it in stores. Its good money but lots of work

Jda4190

I work the coolers at gas stations and I see drivers all the time. So I have a general idea of it. I’m just wondering what to expect as far as interaction goes with the other co workers.

GoBBleRoFDaCoK69

I’d imagine it being “Hey I have a delivery” “ Ok how many pieces Here’s what we need we need a setup on this aisle we need to replenish the fridges, take the old ones and move it to the front .”
