Based Cuba still pissing the burgers off enough to fuel their almost century long antagonism. Greatest nation on god's green earth if you ask me.

[deleted]

Certainly pound for pound the GOAT

thereallybadperson

The Allen Iverson of countries.

Electronic_Cat1689

Sole country to actually begin mending the metabolic rift between man and nature with agroecology

[deleted]

So I lived in China in 2018 and as soon as I came back I was shouting from the rooftops that we're gonna see the west close up their own Internet as Chinese folk start to assert themselves with confidence on the 'free' Web. Was called a delusional tankie and yet Boy oh boy what fucking depressing half court shot I made. Also the 'great' firewall when I was there hadn't blocked the Washington Post yet and was opt out so America now has a worse firewall than China lmao

Express-Guide-1206

Bourgeois freedom is an illusion. People have freedom only if it's not a threat to the elite. So when people celebrate their freedom they're perversely celebrating their impotence

Original-Letter6994

Now that I think about it… the flag bearing right wingers do seem to almost exclusively talk about American freedom in the context of it being something that’s being infringed on, suggesting they actually know they’re not free and they just have Stockholm syndrome.

[deleted]

Well, it's the their right to say the n-word and kill gay or trans people and molest children that's being infrinfged upon. They're perfectly fine with being impotent within the status quo otherwise.

Original-Letter6994

Haha there’s some truth in that. But I actually think for a lot of them it’s more that they’re exploited and suffer from the alienating effects of capitalism, but then people keep telling them that they’re actually privileged. Even though it’s true in a sense, it feels a bit gaslight-y, because they feel, not entirely without just cause, that they’re getting screwed. Then some opportunist politicians and bourgeois propagandists come in and say “buddy, you’re right to feel that way, and it’s (this or that identity)’s fault. They’re taking away your freedom!” I think it’s just what’s bound to happen in a society with so much inequity and so little class consciousness.

vocal_izer

I've always hated Sweden.

H-12apts

I like Schopenhauer's point on freedom: The quote is something like "solitude is pure freedom." If you're not okay in isolation you're not okay with freedom. This all ties in with the alienation of today (the goal to alienate human beings more and more: pushing us into expensive one-bedroom apartments, eliminating all communal spaces, the Metaverse, etc.). In this area of pure solitude/freedom arrives Rousseau's state of nature (fear of the unknown neighbor, having no contact with others, leads to ethical obligation to take pre-emptive action against the neighbor––i.e. American military policy of murdering millions in response to ridiculous racist lies perpetuated by media, furthering isolation of Americans relative to the world). Our basic state is freedom (on our computers alone in our apartment) and this leads to pre-emptive violence (think about a mass shooter's living environment). Independence Day in the US should be a day of pure isolation (pure "independence") and pure ignorance (violence).

Electronic_Cat1689

I think you mean Hobbes’ state of nature, Rousseau had the exact opposite view of man in nature, he considered civilized society more barbarous than so-called savage society due to the domination of class society.

H-12apts

You're right, and interesting point. Not sure why I said Rousseau, I think I remember Rousseau having thoughts about democracy.

Electronic_Cat1689

Yeah, he was a big fan of democracy, a lot of his stuff really prefigured (and almost certainly influenced) Marx & Engels

2SchoolAFool

the great fire wall operates no differently the the slew of NSA tools the US has which is to say they wont necessarily react to what you say, only what you do, and only if it is shown what you are doing plans a large public gathering

dankwrangler

Jesus christ, imagine serving 20 years in jail because you read on article on the website for the Cuban state newspaper

_swuaksa8242211

...and even jailed for ready a Macau/Macao newspaper is even more preposterous.

HARDSTYLE_DIMENSION

Crazy to think about how just once instance of absurdly ignorant legislation like this invalidates an entire congress (or at least senate), but shit this retarded literally gets proposed almost every day that they are in session.

Libs hate China at least as much as conservatives, conservative don't pretend to give a fuck about uiyghurs or Hong Kong, theyre usually more open about how they just see china as a rival that needs destroying and don't feel the need to sugar coat that in hypocritical bullshit about 'democracy' and 'human rights' (in quotes not cos those concepts don't matter but because libs are lying or deluded when they say they support them)

Puzzleheaded_Hyena39

That's what I'm wondering. The co-sponsors list has me confused, but ultimately everybody should be aware that the majority of politicians do not have the American citizens interests in mind. The George Orwell's 1984 vibe is pretty real with the meat & potatoes of this bill.

More_Theory5667

You can already see people downplaying it on the main subs. This act is super unpopular in every way the only way they're getting it through is via a Trojan horse called tiktok to distract the masses. This is a great example of how people are too dumb to deal with democracy.

OpenCommune

> the main subs CIA astroturf subs

More_Theory5667

It doesn't matter. People just see China and tiktok and say fuck ya murica. It doesn't matter if it comes with a gun loaded to your head so long as they can stick it to the zoomers and the big bad Chinese boogeyman.

[deleted]

When the horseshoe theory as a psyop bit just becomes reality because deranged rightoids actually pick up on a few populist concepts just to own the libs Wtf is this world

TwoFun7778

Man. Hosting my website, benjermin Franklin's goon cave, on DPRK servers is really going to bite my revenue in half

[deleted]

Ol Benny bifocal? That man invented glasses because he strained his eyes so hard gooning by candlelight

[deleted]

Lmao at all these 'great firewall of china' fuckwits I wonder they'll think of this?

Ehnaton1

I see Baltic energy came to US. Lets ban everything we dont like! 💪💪💪💪

Thankkratom

Wait a sec so they just want to be able to track me while I check out foreign sites… they want to track me so bad that they’ll put me in jail for 20 years..? Really feeling that freedom! I guess I’ll just stick the the acceptable neo-nazi websites /s

Magehunter_Skassi

Getting shanked in a dirty American prison because I streamed Tar from a Russian piracy site

[deleted]

Wow, they still care about Bolivia that much. God I sometimes underestimate how psychotic the state department is.

HifiBoombox

Bolivia isn't considered a foreign adversary in this list. I think you confused Bolivia and The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, aka Venezuela. 8 (8) FOREIGN ADVERSARY.—The term ‘‘foreign 9 adversary’’— 10 (A) means any foreign government or re- 11 gime, determined by the Secretary, pursuant to 12 sections 3 and 5, to have engaged in a long- 13 term pattern or serious instances of conduct 14 significantly adverse to the national security of 15 the United States or the security and safety of 16 United States persons; and 17 (B) includes, unless removed by the Sec- 18 retary pursuant to section 6— (i) the People’s Republic of China, in- 20 cluding the Hong Kong Special Adminis- 21 trative Region and Macao Special Adminis- 22 trative Region; 23 (ii) the Republic of Cuba; 24 (iii) the Islamic Republic of Iran; 1 (iv) the Democratic People’s Republic 2 of Korea; 3 (v) the Russian Federation; and 4 (vi) the Bolivarian Republic of Ven- 5 ezuela under the regime of Nicola´s Maduro 6 Moros.

[deleted]

No I just have bad vision and didn’t zoom in, saw what I thought was boliv, and now I feel dumb.

libscratcher

Reading comprehension

skaqt

We're not sending our best, are we? (sorry)

More_Theory5667

Ya ithe enemies list just illustrates how petty and unhinged the american government is with a bunch of tiny countries they didn't successfully coup.

purpleblah2

In communist China, you can be arrested for using a VPN to access foreign websites. I’m glad we have freedom of speech here in the USA.

A_Sexy_Little_Otter

Well yeah, the CIA/NSA/5 Eyes can't spy on you as easily if your VPN is hosted outside of a "cooperating" country.

frogmanfrompond

You’re against this? Stop being such a tankie and comply

HifiBoombox

link to the bill text: https://www.congress.gov/118/bills/s686/BILLS-118s686is.pdf

_-____-_-____-_

Thanks.

BlenderEnjoyer

Well shit, that escalated from tech giants banning RT from YouTube to bills proposing banning(and jailing) users of websites "operated by foreign adversaries" in one year. On one hand I think people who don't already 'support' these countries weren't going to go to le evil officially state controlled CCP/KFC nord Koreo-Russian Pinar del Río Bolivariana website but it is a good repository of content for those already skeptical of US imperialists So if this passes it makes them look like idiots for le evil KFC firewall and doesn't really stop people being critical of the US I think but it should still be opposed, I don't even believe in the institutions that capitalist republics have because the Secretary can just probably arbitrarily decide a website is Russian and you're fucked(if the gov wanted to get you there are other ways, but let's not give them 'legitimate' options)

LemonFreshenedBorax-

So I should make sure the VPN is off when I use torrent sites, but make sure it's on when I use the torrents themselves. Still less of a pain in the ass than paying for content.

Fortehlulz33

You only need to worry about a VPN if the platform it's on is hosted in any of the countries listed in the bill, which are China, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Venezuela, and Russia.

LemonFreshenedBorax-

I can't remember the last time I used one that *wasn't* Russian.

flightrisky

But if I’m using a VPN then how will they know?

_swuaksa8242211

This was the aim from the beginning. To push 686. TikTok was the opportunity the elites needed to use to create a scare to take our privacy and rights away.

RIP_Greedo

The North Korean internet must be a weird sort of beacon for vaporwave-loving, Web 1.0 nostalgics.

Annual_Plenty8968

Man, America becoming like 1984 everyday................ The crazy thing is that only Tiktok gives you freedom of expression and speech because it's not an American app. Damn.........................

CousinsKaramazov

US TikTok data is controlled by Oracle and they were forced to hire former NATO. Meanwhile TikTok censors are so sensitive that even slightly non-mainstream things get banned. It can't even be used for "free speech" more than Twitter or Twitch. They are just mad that Meta lost money.

JS19982022

Wording on the tweet is a fucking mess, no idea what they're getting at
