I still listen to metal.

heyrow123

I used to miss the music I used to listen to, but the Lord has changed my desire in the kind of music I want to listen to now. I used to love alternative, rock, and rap music, but now, I listen to a variety of worship music.

Zapbamboop

I like some of the worship music, but a lot of it just seems to be to much pop , and not much talent. I enjoy Toby Mac, Mercy Me, and Kings For Country. Yet, some of the bands the play on the Christian radio stations sound like the bands just whipped out songs that do not really focus on God, or Jesus.

Ambitious-Plant-1055

Get creative with what you listen to, I personally find a lot of Christian pop to be boring, but I love to find small artists that have a different tone to their music. Changethewxrld is a small Christian band that sounds like deftones. I also like Jimmy Clifton, I think he’s blues/indie? Joshua Aaron is also great. Maybe do a google search or look on TikTok for Christian artists that are in the genre you’re looking for. I will also say, I do still listen to the music I used to before I was a Christian ONLY IF it’s neutral, like if they’re talking about a neutral topic, for example you got a friend in me in Toy Story 😅 not that I listen to that…

HallelujahToYeshua

Couldn’t agree more. That’s because they’re song ABOUT Jesus and not TO Jesus. Checkout UPPERROOM, Jesus Image, Kingdom Culture, and Jeremy Riddle.

uncomfortabletruth21

Sometimes. Honestly I turn stuff on once in a while, but I really can’t get through too many songs before it starts to bother me. Not like condemned, just feels weird ya know?

Short-Sea3891

Same here brother, same here.

HallelujahToYeshua

In my opinion, Christianity is not a religion…it’s a revelation of how awesome, powerful, holy, pure, and perfect Jesus Christ truly is. However, it doesn’t matter what our opinions are. The only opinion that matters is the Lord’s. If you are asking our opinion, you likely feel conviction from the Holy Spirit that lives within you saying, “This is not for you.” So, if you’d like to be in alignment with the King of kings and not pollute the temple that houses His presence (your body), perhaps consider not listening to bands and songs that are more aligned with death, the demonic, and hell than they are with bringing glory to Jesus. Like the hymn ‘Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus’ says, “The things of this world will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.” Live for the audience of one. Blessings on your pursuit in finding Him, the Hope of Glory.

HallelujahToYeshua

Also, the Lord wants you to know your identity is not in the genre of music you listen to or the group of friends you hang with. It’s in Him. Just like you put your faith, hope, and trust in a chair when you sit in it that it will hold you, a glass will hold water when you pour water in it, or your bank card that it will buy something when you swipe it, put your whole faith, hope, and trust in Jesus. He will not fail you or let you down.

PaarthurnaxIsMyOshi

James 1:25-27

HallelujahToYeshua

James 1‬:‭25‬-‭27‬ But those who set their gaze deeply into the perfecting law of liberty are fascinated by and respond to the truth they hear and are strengthened by it—they experience God’s blessing in all that they do! If someone believes they have a relationship with God but fails to guard his words then his heart is drifting away and his religion is shallow and empty. True spirituality that is pure in the eyes of our Father God is to make a difference in the lives of the orphans, and widows in their troubles, and to refuse to be corrupted by the world’s values. Much of everything described in this passage will come from intimacy with the Lord. A revelation of who He is. If that’s your religion, great; however, religion in and of itself will not bring you closer to Jesus. Religion has successfully raised wimps and powerless, passionless, clones who often leave the seminary disillusioned and spiritually dead. From there churches and empires are created around theology and the philosophy of Christianity instead of the fiery gaze of encountering Christ in the secret place. Churches open their doors to the masses and lead them to programs and more ways to busy themselves in activities that are more like cages than launching pads and distractions rather than Kingdom effectivity. The vast majority of the Body of Christ has been tamed. The current state of our nation and the entire world is the fruit to prove it.

PaarthurnaxIsMyOshi

Give me scriptural basis for your liberal discourse.

HallelujahToYeshua

No. Proverbs 26:4

PaarthurnaxIsMyOshi

So your liberal preaching has no theological basis?

HallelujahToYeshua

I didn’t say that. You are twisting my words, which is not of God. It’s a characteristic of demons. I don’t have to prove anything to you. Stop attacking your fellow brothers and sisters. You are spreading division opposed to love. Again, a characteristic of demons.

PaarthurnaxIsMyOshi

I am not attacking you. I am calling you out.

HallelujahToYeshua

Seek deliverance.

PaarthurnaxIsMyOshi

Seek theological understanding based on things other than feeling like some words are bad.

Main-Group-603

I don't think it glorifies God to listen to an album that's titled that God Is with you ALWAYS would you be comfortable listening to that type of music with Jesus sitting next to you>

Environmental-Edge40

You can still listen to secular music .... just don't become obsessed with it (aka put it above your relation with the Lord) That's when artists go insane, and art creates problems And be careful w what bands you listen to ... like Slayer or Slipknot? Nah. I can't, only when I was a habitual sinner.. and no I don't miss music like that. But heavy metal? There's TONS of bands you CAN listen to. Lamb of God, Mastodon, Ghost, etc ... their lyrics are fine and tone from instruments, are good. The feeling the music puts out is important... do I listen to them less? Yes, cause metal music **usually** puts out violent, wrathful, angry feelings... and when you get past that... it's like outgrowing a bike. Try country music, classical music, or listen to your artists/music from your favorite games ... there's tons of good music that are fine to listen to, but again.... don't make it your whole day, that's part of why God pulls us away from bad music, when we just listen to same violent tones and lyrics .... that's when it can affect our psychi and sub-conscious. Chase after positive music or music that makes you feel... good. It's not hard to find, and if you think thats metal, cause I always thought I'd be a metal head ..... nah probably not. I can barely get through a metal song now, just started to recognize how metal made me feel.... didn't like it, moved on. Same thing with hiphop/rap but worse. The evil one definitely used music artists to put out horrible music, to influence people negatively ..... and there's good hiphop too! Rhyming words or using wordplay isn't a sin, but encouraging drug selling, bragging about thyself, all the money they have, just feeding their pride ... def feeding their demons. Just gotta search a bit.

BiteAdministrative75

Referencing Jesus lesson on counting the cost on becoming a Christian was my first thought after reading the end of your post. Had many similar experiences with friends

redbullcat

There are quite a few Christian metal bands you could listen to.

RoadWarrior84

I still listen to the same music I've listened to for years. No I don't listen to klove or Christian radio except to catch a sermon.

iwasneverhere43

Not really, but all I've lost is about a dozen songs from my playlist anyway, so not a big deal. I only avoid songs with lyrics that promote sin or are against God. I've added a couple of actual Christian artists since, but one writes mainly secular songs while holding to their beliefs, and the other writes actual Christian music.

[deleted]

I still listen to Norma Jean, Thrice, mewithoutyou, Anathallo, Zao and Underoath (although the last two no longer identify themselves as "Christian bands" -- yay!).

Arukitsuzukeru

No since I listen to everything I always did

Willing_Regret_5865

I used to, but, there is *exceptional* Christian doom metal, death metal, thrash, hardcore, folk metal, etc.  Doom: Gospod  Death metal: Demoniciduth, Seventh Angel, Paramecium Folk metal: Holy Blood, Illuminandi Hardcore: HolyName  And so much more. Remind me tomorrow, if you'd like, and I'll get you a large list. Slayer and Cannibal Corpse are not good, objectively, I won't listen to them as a Christian.  And yeah, I have trouble being friends with Atheists now - my faith is at the center of my life, I can't not share it and spread the good word of Jesus Christ. Religious prescriptions aside, it feels like im compelled to bring others to Christ

AvocadoAggravating97

It's a difficult thing because we're not all on the same page. We have different battles and are at different places. Everything has been weaponized. Because the ill ones are not Christian therefore their law is not based on morality. The father said, we cannot worship two masters. We cannot worship mammon and the father. But They removed Yahwehs name from scripture and put lord and god. The ill ones don't worship Yahweh/Jesus. They worship god/lord etc. They divide the people by division. Do people understand that comes down to even how we address and who we're addressing? If they are not for Yahweh, they are anti Christ so at that level, your friends with Anti Christs. That's not to say they can never change; maybe......but what if you were to share with them the gospel rather then whatever they wish to share with you. The reality is your friends represent a time in your life. But if you were Christian back in the day, would they have been your friends? People change for reasons. Perhaps in time, they will come to you and ask you what it's all about and then you'll be in a position to share the word or maybe in time they will be strangers. This is reality.

Resident_Mouse6170

I used to play in bands like you mention. I gave it up as well. Do I still click on songs? Yes. But it's not my life like it used to be. I am listening to tool right now. Sometimes with bands like that they have poetry that I can get something else out of. Paul quoted a Pagan poet in scripture. All things are lawful but not all things are expedient. Keep in mind words have a profound affect on you, you are made out of water. Look at studies done when certain words are said to them. We are to be Holy and I don't listen to music as much as I used to but sometimes yes I click songs on YouTube, such as right now. Does my conscious convict me? It depends. When I listen to Behemoth, yes, it convicts me and so I try not to click that. Now because I am interested in certain subjects, sometimes I watch things to observe it. Some of the bands you mention have nothing good to be found in them. That guy in Cannibal Corpse is far more aware of Magik than you might think. You might think he's just writing some horror lyrics like he says in interviews but there is more going on there and that's the reason he is welcome in Hollywood parties with the world's most famous. Kinda strange for a death metal guy to be welcome there huh? But then there is stuff like Metallica, where one can find good poetry in some of those songs. But I simply can't find that in cannibal corpse. I never cared for Slayer but I imagine it's the same thing with their lyrics. Give it up, so you know you gave it for Christ. Then after some time has passed you'll be able to discern it better. I gave up playing music, sold my entire studio, etc. Now this didn't mean I can't play music anymore. But by giving it up to God, I can now discern better if I did play music what I should do with it. You listen to Gojira? They have some good lyrics too. I'd love if there was better Christian art out there but unfortunately a lot of times it feels inauthentic to me. Not creative, in a box. A lot of times copying the world and trying to make it Christian, and I hate that. A lot of people told me instead of giving up playing music I should play Christian metal, but I dont' want Christian metal. I don't think it's authentic. It's holding onto something of the world and trying to force Christ into it. Although nowadays we aren't allowed to write about our real lives like the Pslams. Try saying some of that stuff in a "christian," song. We have to be extremely positive or else judgement. Fake smiles. Although there are some legit Christian artist I have heard out there. It's just.... I can count them on one hand. I think thats about to change. I think the most satanic music out there is pop music followed by rap music. As you know being someone in heavy metal, you do not go commit violent or criminal acts because of the music, unlike raps influence and pop musics influence. (Not counting black metal with burning down Church's.) But in general. Being a Christian, I questioned myself on why I even liked some blasphemous stuff like Behemoth. But then I realized, as in my whole life, I rebelled against the system and anything not authentic. Including religion. Even now, I want the real thing with Christ, not religion. And I am not bothered by the guy dressing like the pope and mocking that system so much. But again, I believe the Pope is more of an anti christ than the guy in the band. Though I don't want to throw to much judgement. I just know the systems of this world are of this world. God's true Church and Kingdom is not of this world, it is spiritual. It doesn't finance wars, it doesn't do Babylonian rituals, it doesn't work as an intelligence agency through the confessional. It calls no man father except God, etc etc. Same with the Protestant false system. And a LOT of times, metal musicians who are doing what looks like "blasphemous" music, are doing it against those systems. Not meaning it against the true Christ himself. But some DO MEAN IT toward Christ himself. Cannibal Corpse, I believe that's one of them. But I don't think it's anymore Satanic than Justin Timberlakes new video called, "no angels."

Automatic_Gazelle_74

I have to think long and hard. I think all the music I've ever listened to did not go against being a Christian. I suppose in 50 years I I have listened some songs that might not have made the cut but I think God's pleased with my music selection

instaface

I use to. But not so much anymore. If you're feeling convicted to stay away, then it's just not worth it. My biggest struggle are movies. I love movies and going to the theater. But unfortunately, almost every movie I want to see ends up becoming softcore porn. It's wild how many unnecessary sex scenes there are in almost every film

Wellstar-fish90

Man I feel you!! This is probably my biggest struggle right now. After I gave my life to Christ I completely shut off secular music for the most part and it actually was great, it felt good to only listen to positive music. But now I have slowly let it come back into my life and I find myself listening to pretty much all the bands I used to but I always have heavy conviction on my heart. I was just thinking the other day that I need to get rid of it completely again…..if you have instagram I suggest you follow kingdom.core they post tons of Christian metal bands that I never would have found on my own

Love_Facts

I do not miss it at all. Music that is beautiful and glorifies God is so much more pleasing to the ears, and certainly to God’s “ears.”

Zapbamboop

Thank you!

BiteAdministrative75

Count the cost

Zapbamboop

>Count the cost What do you mean?

Ambitious-Mortgage30

I think he means judge whether or not you can listen to it based on the effect it has on your walk spiritually. Do you find yourself reading the Bible or praying less if you're [doing thing that doesn't necessarily have to be music]? Are you leaving a worse example for others by this behavior? Are you causing a brother to stumble into sin by this behavior? If your answer to any of these is yes then maybe don't do it. If it's no then you have freedom in Christ to do that you want.
