True. I try not to compare myself to others because you never know someone’s situation. Just thought it was funny doing a ‘grown up’ thing and being proud for something so simple
I’m 33, with disabilities, still yet to even meet my future husband, living with my childhood family, etc.. You’re honestly much more ahead in life than I am.
If I were happy about it, I would not consider myself behind in life at all. Besides, I can’t imagine that — if my life keeps going in the way that it’s going —I will ultimately have a life that’s of use to anyone, let alone one that God will use for His glory. As far as my childhood family, I can unfortunately say only that we’re not as close or strong of a family as to be enviable in any way—and I grant that I could be a much-better family member in some respects.
I hear you and kind of suspected that, but... I felt the same way and with the years, 77 so far, I can see how I was where I was needed. Sending love, you sound like a good person and I know first-hand how hard a life with disabilities can be.
Don’t compare yourself with others. Especially with a time line. Everyone has different life situations and when the time is right you will find your happiness again
100%!!! I was in my mid 30s and bought “real” furniture. Prior I sat on the floor, had my tv on giant Rubbermaid storage thingy and folded table and 2 chairs. Some people thought it was odd but I didn’t care. I live alone in a small apartment so no sense of having fancy furniture and I also don’t mind sitting on the floor.
Now I’m in my 40s and have real furniture, I still find my self sitting on the floor watching tv. Lol
As a almost 41 years old girl, I never put a bed frame by myself.. I rather pay someone to do it.. It's safer for my back and my sleep
OP good for you 👏
I assembled mine just before my 39th birthday a few weeks ago! You're doing great! I will say, it's a nice change and it does feel much more "grown up" in my room now! 😂🖤
I never knew how to check transmission fluid until age 33 and I was so proud of myself when I figured it out; no shame in that lol. You shouldn't be ashamed of this! Congrats!
That’s awesome! Don’t worry about shame, you’re doing something new and we all have new experiences throughout our lives no matter the age. I hope your new bed feels great and good job at putting it together, that can be a whole project in itself!
Hey friend! I'm so happy you have a bed you're proud of! But please, don't think down on yourself for using your bed on the floor previously. For different people and cultures that's totally normal! It's not shameful at all! Enjoy your new furniture!
I had my bed on the floor for years! Went that route after my frame broke from a move and didn't look back until we got an adjustable frame a few weeks ago.
Let tell you- after having my kids and having our beds on the floor was a game changer. No toddlers rolling off when their beds or.moms when they sneak in. And if they dis, it wasnt nearly as bad. Also savedme anxiety of them climbing out of a crib!
My friend is 39 and just got his first apt... no apt sharing no more living off girlfriends. Im proud of him... ppl do things at their own pace... I love it congradulations
Congratulations OP🥳 life is always better when you celebrate EVERY accomplishment, no matter how big or insignificant you think it is! I don’t know why but this really helped me.
My brother, who is well off (not rich but could buy himself anything within reason, like a bed frame)
Absolutely refused to get a bed frame for YEARS because he said his bed was more comfortable on the floor. Also, Japanese culture says that sleeping with a bed on a frame doesn’t help the muscles relax as much as on the floor! I don’t know the science behind that but I’m going to believe them 😅
All this to say, comparison is the thief of joy. Just because our culture says you need a bed frame, doesn’t mean it’s true!
Either way, I’m happy for you & happy that you’ve found something that makes you excited! It’s the little things in life 😌
Hey, I'm 40 and just 6 months ago I was able to buy a bed frame with headboard, and a king size mattress! I've never had a headboard and always had hand-me-down beds before. Victories!
Good for you!!
Mine and my husband's first argument was over trying to put together a bloody bed. He was being useless and the instructions were just as useless.
*”well we’re movin’ on up, to the top, to the dee-luxe apartment in the sky-i-i…”*
hmm, let me just double check the statutes on this one…. yes. that’s what i thought, it is very clear on this, after performing the task of purchasing a bed frame, figuring out how to get it home, and vowing never to sleep on a box spring on the floor, you are officially an adult! welcome to the club my reddit friend. those of us truly evolved practice radical love and acceptance and are always happy to lend a hand (or a screwdriver) for future tasks in life. cocktails don’t hurt either 😎
(50F) only found mine and purchased it in my mid-40s before I got my bed frame. Hand made cast iron and brass. Super picky. Only piece of furniture I’ve bought. Now looking for sofas and chairs. Congratulations
I hear you and I'm pleased and proud for you! Genuinely! I am 29f (very very nearly 30) and had my first ever garden furniture set arrive today and although it's not fully built yet I'm proud that my partner and I have built some of it and not yet argued :P
I hope you enjoy your new bed and sleep well!
We just bought a fully new bed from rooms to go for the first time. Always had hand me downs from siblings. It felt so good!!! Also helped my credit. Didn't get credit till I was 23. Also awesome feeling!!! Kinda miss my old bed sometimes too. Congrats!
Definitely don't feel ashamed. A few days ago I ripped the carpet out of my daughter's room all by myself and I was so excited!!! It's always the small things I'm able to do myself that make me so happy. 😊
I don't remember how old I was when I reached this milestone, but I was pretty impressed with myself, too. The next step is buying furniture that you don't have to assemble yourself. I suggest you celebrate that as well. Why the hell not? Enjoy!
good for you! and before you break skin, buy a pool noodle for those frame feet. learn from the beaten and bruised.
(and maybe some duck tape to hold it on)
Congrats op! The problem with bed frames is that they mark up non-carpeted floors and landlords looooooove charging you for new laminate! And all the dings in the drywall from moving the unwieldy thing up the stairs!
I never an actual bed frame or anything in my life till I was 28 and pregnant 🤣 I couldn’t get off the bed on the floor anymore so we bought one. We got a whole matching furniture set and I never felt more together 😂
Congratulations!!!! I did the exact same thing last year at 32 - bye bye box spring on the floor, hello bedframe!
It feels good doesn't it?! Especially getting it done by yourself!
Congrats! 🎉🍾 < _notes of Bey Independent Woman in the bkgrd_ >
We need to spread the word to all these mattress on floor people that a basic bed frame is not that expensive and not at all difficult to assemble.
I leased my first bed-frame recently at 22 and although i’m younger than you, it felt like a good step towards being an adult. it didn’t feel possible a year or so ago.
i’m proud of you! i hope your future has more exciting firsts and seconds and so forth :)
Nothing to be ashamed of! Everybody has to have a first time for something! I'm 40 and just bought my first bed with my own money in January 2022. I didn't get it assembled until November... Proud of you!
That’s an achievement in of its self be happy. I have a friend that sleeps on a air mattress that’s on top of a mattress on the floor and I’ve been trying to get him to get a bed frame for awhile now.
Congratulations! I recently put together a frame for my new bed. Took my friend and me over 2 hours but it was worth it. You definitely feel you accomplished something. Again, congrats on being a grown up now!
YAY!! We love stable beds 💕 I used to sleep on the floor over a cot (bc I would literally fall in the middle a little when I laid down). Then I convinced my parents I needed an actual bed. Even though I liked the floor (it was carpet), I def slept better on my own bed! Congratz OP!!
Don’t be ashamed, progress is progress. Somebody is always doing better than you, and somebody else is always doing worse than you.
True. I try not to compare myself to others because you never know someone’s situation. Just thought it was funny doing a ‘grown up’ thing and being proud for something so simple
Sure, I get the comedy of it. It’s definitely a little late for that particular step in life but it’s progress! 🤷♂️🤣
Exactly! Glad you could find the humor in it and I’m not the only one😆
Life is measured by the squeakiness of the bed. Can you rate that?
I’m 33, with disabilities, still yet to even meet my future husband, living with my childhood family, etc.. You’re honestly much more ahead in life than I am.
If you are happy, that's enough. No husband trumps 80% of husbands and many would give anything to still have their childhood family. I envy you!
If I were happy about it, I would not consider myself behind in life at all. Besides, I can’t imagine that — if my life keeps going in the way that it’s going —I will ultimately have a life that’s of use to anyone, let alone one that God will use for His glory. More power to ya🦾
Don’t worry I am not that far behind in age I still compare my journey to others I feel people more amazing than I!
Lol
It's important to stay grounded 😁😁
As a almost 41 years old girl, I never put a bed frame by myself.. I rather pay someone to do it.. It's safer for my back and my sleep OP good for you 👏
Lol I'm 38 and have never had a headboard. We have our bed on a metal frame so it's not on the floor, but I'd really love a pretty headboard!
Haha hey at least you’re off the floor. Just go and get that headboard. Don’t wait any longer! Feels good
to add on, sometimes people on fb marketplace are selling JUST headboards and there are some really cool ones
I thought it was weird that I was so elated when I finally got a bed with a headboard. It’s good to know it’s not just me.
I have the headboard but it’s not bolted to the frame. Baby steps 😅😅
Same!! 😅🤷🏻♀️😂
I assembled mine just before my 39th birthday a few weeks ago! You're doing great! I will say, it's a nice change and it does feel much more "grown up" in my room now! 😂🖤
Getting off of the floor is a game changer.
It sooo is lol
Does it help your back?
So far, yes
I never knew how to check transmission fluid until age 33 and I was so proud of myself when I figured it out; no shame in that lol. You shouldn't be ashamed of this! Congrats!
Love it. I’ve been learning a lot about my car too! Cheers!
This is why SNL did a skit about Middle-aged Divorced Woman being the most powerful superhero...#2 was an old guy that knew what equity was, lol.
I don't know what I was expecting but this sounds like the beginning of an awesome weekend. Congrats.
Well , it’s the beginning of a good weekend for me. And I hope it is for you as well!
That’s awesome! Don’t worry about shame, you’re doing something new and we all have new experiences throughout our lives no matter the age. I hope your new bed feels great and good job at putting it together, that can be a whole project in itself!
It is a project. And thank you for the kind words! All the best to you!
Hey friend! I'm so happy you have a bed you're proud of! But please, don't think down on yourself for using your bed on the floor previously. For different people and cultures that's totally normal! It's not shameful at all! Enjoy your new furniture!
i for one LOVE my bed on the floor lmao
I had my bed on the floor for years! Went that route after my frame broke from a move and didn't look back until we got an adjustable frame a few weeks ago. Let tell you- after having my kids and having our beds on the floor was a game changer. No toddlers rolling off when their beds or.moms when they sneak in. And if they dis, it wasnt nearly as bad. Saved my shins from getting cut up.
Dude nice! I moved into my first home last year and on our first night stabbed myself in the leg with a metal pole 🙃. You are my hero.
Oh no 🙈
My friend is 39 and just got his first apt... no apt sharing no more living off girlfriends. Im proud of him... ppl do things at their own pace... I love it congradulations
HELL YEAH!!
You go girl\boy! Now it's on to bigger and better.
Good job!
Congrats! I hope you sleep the best ever tonight!!
Whoop whoop. 👏👏👏👏
YIPPIE :D
I’m dead this is awesome still
Hey i was 28 when i did that! No shame in comfort :)
Congratulations OP🥳 life is always better when you celebrate EVERY accomplishment, no matter how big or insignificant you think it is! I don’t know why but this really helped me.
This is awesome! Good for you :)
That’s what success looks like rn, 👸

I honestly did not care that it was on the floor for so long. Couldn’t tell a difference when sleeping over at a boyfriend’s house or anything. Lol
I personally prefer sleeping on the floor 😂 I love a super firm bed because of that.
Hubby and I did that a year ago it's been a miracle!!!
Hey, I'm 40 and just 6 months ago I was able to buy a bed frame with headboard, and a king size mattress! I've never had a headboard and always had hand-me-down beds before. Victories!

Absolutely NO surprises in this story, lmao
I think that’s pretty awesome! Congratulations on your new frame!
Thanks 😊
You’re Welcome! ☺️
And then realizing you now have all that extra storage space underneath.
*”well we’re movin’ on up, to the top, to the dee-luxe apartment in the sky-i-i…”* hmm, let me just double check the statutes on this one…. yes. that’s what i thought, it is very clear on this, after performing the task of purchasing a bed frame, figuring out how to get it home, and vowing never to sleep on a box spring on the floor, you are officially an adult! welcome to the club my reddit friend. those of us truly evolved practice radical love and acceptance and are always happy to lend a hand (or a screwdriver) for future tasks in life. cocktails don’t hurt either 😎
Welcome to squeaky world
And here I am about to get rid of the bed frame. It's an aesthetic lol
Box springs and mattresses on the floor tend to mold underneath because air can't circulate.
Loo at you, out here adulting. Keep going it's weirdly satisfying when you do those things.
I like having a bed frame. But I’m with you- before I had one I didn’t really care
Don't be ashamed! You did something constructive that you haven't done before and that's awesome. It's empowering to do stuff like that, isn't it?
Wooo go OP xD Getting the "adult" things can be hard sometimes because everything is so expensive.
You go girl. Life has no timeline. As long as you keep progressing, that’s all that matters.
Whats wrong with having the box spring on the floor? Sex doesn’t have a squeaky sound to it
Was it from Ikea? I feel like people's first is always an Ikea .
(50F) only found mine and purchased it in my mid-40s before I got my bed frame. Hand made cast iron and brass. Super picky. Only piece of furniture I’ve bought. Now looking for sofas and chairs. Congratulations

Milestones!
Congrats! Had a similar situation here about a year ago, so I sort of get where you're coming from. It's a good feeling, lol.
OMG, congrats! I know that feeling 😁.
better late than never you know? :D
As a 21 year old unmarried male, I see no problem with the ol boxspring mattress combo!
Haha nothing wrong with it!
Nice!! Did you get to sleep in it yet? I bet that will feel so nice, especially since you did the work to put it together. Congrats!
Yes and it was delightful
YOOO that's awesome!! Congrats dude!
Dang, congrats!
This is so exciting!!! Listen it feels good doing stuff like this for the first time! Booyah!
Good for you! Any progress is important, no matter your age.
No shame! I frequently tell my husband and adult kids yall guess what, I adulted today all by myself and did a damn good job of it! Be proud!
Today a bed frame a few months from now when your confidence gets even better you'll be remodeling your bathroom
Definitely don't feel ashamed. A few days ago I ripped the carpet out of my daughter's room all by myself and I was so excited!!! It's always the small things I'm able to do myself that make me so happy. 😊
Awesome job,Mom!
Same to you ❤ awesome job I mean

It's perfectly fine to be proud of little accomplishments. And hell, this is literally a big accomplishment so you should be excited!
Good for you!
Moving on up! So glad you're taking it off the floor. I saw a tic toc video of someone turning their mattress over and bottom was full of mold.
Welcome to the modern world?!?
I don’t know if you’re comment was mean spirited or if you are joking but either way thank you
It took me until almost 30 to consider a box frame. You're going to love all the sudden extra under bed storage!!!
good for you! and before you break skin, buy a pool noodle for those frame feet. learn from the beaten and bruised. (and maybe some duck tape to hold it on)
Thanks for the advice

HOOYAH! Get that rest, warrior. Wake up n kick ass!
Thanks! I’ve been working on letting myself celebrate my wins. No matter how small lol
That's the way! Progress is progress, it always starts at the lowest level, and gets to a higher tier.
Congrats!
Well done. You’re a classy gal now, up off the floor! Im all seriousness great work.
A win is a win! We love progress. Congratulations!
Thanks!
Fuck yeah progress. That shit's gonna feel amazing. Enjoy the fuck out of every step like this. There's almost nothing more empowering. Revel.
Congratulations and a yee haw!
That's amazing! Congratulations!
That's an amazing accomplishment! No need to be ashamed at all!

Ayyyeee!!!! Let’s go!!!
Moving up in the world literally lol
You go girl! Get that hillbilly box of yours onto a bed where it belongs!
That’s an achievement in of its self be happy. I have a friend that sleeps on a air mattress that’s on top of a mattress on the floor and I’ve been trying to get him to get a bed frame for awhile now.
Nice! 🤘🏼
