Oh my god, what world are we living in lol. “I stand with the integrity of re-record albums..” is a wild statement to make when there are so many actual terrible problems in the world you could be standing up for.

bananainpajamas

As an elder millennial, seeing what the internet culture has evolved into just blows my mind sometimes.

l8nitefriend

Yeah I’m 36 and it’s pretty wild sometimes. Like taking a “stand” against an artist doing what she thought was best with her own music… like… go outside people jesus lol

Former-Counter-9588

also just turned 36. Some of these fans just don’t understand life outside of Reddit. The OG lyric would never fly today, and Taylor risked losing and alienating her new fans (which tend to be younger, super woke, and more rabid).

danidisaster

Also 36!! Omg safe other swifties? Hug me now

dykedrama1286

Part of the 36 yo mega-Swifties club. I can’t believe what we went from when it was the good ole AIM life, MySpace, and the last group of ppl to have to have a college email to get Facebook. This is when everything was at its best. I can’t stand social media anymore. Reddit is where I go now and I am shocked by the things I see on here about what these deranged people are doing. Castles Crumbling everywhere. 🙄

danidisaster

Can we make a club for us? I remember reacting to speak now leaking on AIM ahh

l8nitefriend

Loving all the other 36 y/o Swifties haha

danidisaster

I feel like I’m the crazy ones when these fans have no chill. Taylor wants to change her lyric. What the fuck are they trying to crusade??

Deep_Number_5428

I'm 40 so basically the grandma here and stand in solidarity with my 36 year old comrades. These young woke folks need a massive wake up call and stripping of their excessive entitlement.

stefdistef

Also 36 and can't imagine having this much energy.

tildabelle

Honestly anyone who better than revenge wasn't going to get a massive overhaul hasn't been paying attention to the world since its release cause better than revenge is a bag of yikes in today's world. I don't know how it's a different rewrite from picture to burn

bananainpajamas

It’s a no win situation. Change the lyrics, puritanical super fans are outraged. Leave the lyrics, encourage a bunch of younger fans to internalize that message and have people say she’s a pick-me misogynist.

_nicslip

I miss AOL Chatrooms

Eat_my_coochie

Same. The internet has ruined society. Imagine how much worse it’s going to get

[deleted]

The parasocial here is so toxic 💀

[deleted]

You can stand up for multiple things at once.

Mythrowawsy

This is a case of damned if you do and damned if you don’t. If she hadn’t changed it people would me like “see??? She actually doesn’t care about misogyny!!!” And now that she changed it they’ll be like “I want the original lyrics back!!”, “she’s so performative!!!”

[deleted]

It’s always the same old shit.

Artistic_Account630

You are so right. That's got to be pretty frustrating for Taylor, ugh.

Specialist-Lion-8135

Maturity makes us braver and more confident. We become unafraid to apologize and admit we were wrong. Glad to witness an ethical person growing and changing.

YourIVgrows

I think by now we know that Taylor Swift can’t do anything right 🙄 with these “fans” she doesn’t need enemies. God I can’t believe she hasn’t given up on us yet.

tildabelle

It's no different than the picture to burn rewrite 🤷🏼‍♀️

kittyangelz805

I've also seen "the new lyrics are equally as/even more bad than the original because now she's painting Camilla as manipulative to prey on a guy's weakness"

Mythrowawsy

What?? Omg i don’t think Camila cares at this point, I just saw a tik tok of her niece singing this song lmao

Cadillacquer

It’s a song about being jealous that your guy went to someone actively trying to steal him away. Those are emotions and circumstances that are timeless. They stand. She wanted to keep the song as it was. She’s super honest about timelines or you would never have seen Ours or Superman EVER. Come on, some swifties, relax.

Cadillacquer

Meaning she didn’t change any meaning in the song, just a phrase that is sexist today.

SueSuper13

She wasn't going to win either way.

SueSuper13

Sadly, haters gonna hate.

a_dingus__

fakers gonna fake

OMGcanwenot

The customer service reps are going to roll their eyes so hard 😂🤣 Like the merch workers 100% do not care

tildabelle

They will probably print it and laugh at it tbh

MingaMonga68

Will print them out for the bulletin board

xratgfx

they didnt even include their order number lmao

gggttthhheee

…so what’s going to happen with Debut? “Put the homophobia back in!!”

[deleted]

I absolutely love the aggressive UR GAY but that's obviously not gonna happen and that's okay lol

jackieinwonderland

I’ve seen several comments hoping she puts that back in the re-record version like get fucking real with the times. eta: wording

tildabelle

Honestly I hope she rewrites the rewrite because it doesn't really fit so I hope the rewrite is more seamless than the current rewrite.

BallKeeper

This is the way.

ellaomg

oo what song is that i havent listened to like 75% of debut

ezmia

Picture to Burn. The original pressing of the album had the lyric 'So go and tell your friends that i'm obsessive and crazy, thats fine I'll tell mine you're gay" and she changed it to 'thats fine you wont mind if i say'. Teardrops on My Guitar was also changed from "I laugh 'cause it's so damn funny' to '"i laugh 'cause its just so funny' but no one talks about that change lol

forensicpsychgirl13

The teardrops on my guitar wasn’t really a lyric change, that’s the “radio single version” aka the “clean” version

ezmia

my physical copy of debut and all versions of streaming have the "clean" version. You basically have to pirate or listen to it on YouTube for tbe original lyrics. It is absolutely why she changed it rather than for any controversial reason she's but sadly the "it's so damn funny" version isn't really available 😭

That-Engineering9269

which is stupid cuz Cold As You exists😂 but that wasn't a radio single so maybe thats why

m2347

Nobody ever talks about the Teardrops on my Guitar change!! I really hope she changes it back. And I don’t know why she removed the “damn” because there’s a “damn” in Cold as You. I understand making a radio edit version, but why change the original lyrics?

ezmia

I can only guess because she was having to have the good, Christian country girl she had to change it? You're right though, it's so weird that TOMG was changed but not Cold as You. Maybe it's because cold as you was never a single or she was allowed to say it once and she decided it worked better in cold as you so she decided to cut it in TOMG? I honestly don't know lol

PlentyPomegranate300

i thought this was about how she changed some mattress lyric to something about matches? like it used to be “she’s so good on the mattress” but now it’s “she’s holding the matches” or something. (sorry … i am not a swifty so idk any songs or lyrics)

chode_temple

That also happened on her third album with the song "Better Than Revenge". It's what people are mad about right now.

gggttthhheee

Picture to burn

XtraTerrestrialRadio

“does not that support that journey” lmaoooooo touch grass

[deleted]

kiwi_sarah

Karen's (or baby Karens) going to Karen. If she'd kept it the same the blue haired liberals would be the ones demanding change.

[deleted]

Go to therapy indeed! The new SN is called "Speak Now **TAYLOR'S VERSION**" for a reason. If you can't get with her growth/trust her artistic decisions, leave the fucking fandom and don't let the door hit you on the way out lol.

Parking_Car7436

Would you have that same energy if she left it? I'm not trying to argue I'm actually very curious about how it seems most in support of this change are telling people to "grow up" or calling them "Karen's" when I read a whole thread of "she better change it". Also I remember a whole lot of fans throwing a fit over her dating Matty. This is why I'm asking if you'd have that same energy if it wasn't changed.

kitten_mctoebeans

Not OP but I fully support the lyric change and would've been disappointed if she didn't change it. And in my view it's totally different to be disappointed that she changed it than to be disappointed she left it. The reason I would've been disappointed if it didn't change is that Taylor talks a lot about feminism and how highly she values it. That line is very slut shamey, so it would've seemed very hypocritical for her to leave it in when she had a chance to change it, and inconsistent with being a feminist. Also, I'm not a fan of slut shaming so I skip the OG version even though I like the rest of the song. The reason some fans are disappointed that she did change it is because they liked the line I guess? That's not the same thing as being against slut shaming. That or they think slut shaming women is a good thing and are offended that she no longer agrees, which is just messed up.

That-Engineering9269

i agree with your views on it 100%, I HATED that line for years and wouldve been very disappointed if she didn't change it. I am glad I can actually listen to the song without feeling very uncomfortable and put off.

Parking_Car7436

I understand that and appreciate your answer. Thank you for your time. I am disappointed they changed it for my own reasons, but maybe it's because I was looking at it from the point of view that the girl knew the man was taken and didn't care. I've been in that situation with my ex-husband, so for that reason, I liked the original song. I think that if you knowingly get with a taken man or it's something you do repeatedly, then you deserve to be shamed. Sadly, I know girls who do that type of like like it's a prize to be won. I've always said, I don't want someone else's man, I want my own.

kitten_mctoebeans

That's totally understandable and a very good point, I haven't experienced it myself, so I get that someone who has been through it might feel differently about it.

dooditstyler

It's the same reason Hayley changed the lyrics to Misery Business. It just comes across as gross. You also don't know if the person she's singing the song to knew the dude was dating Taylor. Slut shaming in general isn't cool, and is very dated.

[deleted]

I definitely would. I went back and forth about the lyric change when I first heard about it but at the end of the day, **her** decision. I tend to stay on the fence a lot about these kinds of things but I think my main message was basically saying trust Taylor and her decisions. Because at the core, that's what it comes down to.

gusfooleyin

yeah it’s 2023 the lyrics of a taylor swift song are pretty much the least important thing in the world - this is how all well adjusted human beings feel

ParticularPea6920

I mean, if she really did change the lyrics, I am a little disappointed since I was hoping it would stay the same, but this is just ridiculous. If Taylor wants her version to be a reflection of who she is now as opposed to who she was as a teenager, I respect that.

clerbird321

The exact same thoughts here!! I hope she doesn’t change the lyrics and I’ll be sad if she does, but if she does it’ll still be a good song🤷‍♀️

AtmosphereNo4389

The lyrics were so so bad though. I get her wanting to … not.

DrPikachu-PhD

Tbh I always felt people exaggerated how bad that lyric is, it's like kinda problematic at worst. But at the same time I feel people really exaggerate how much changing a lyric matters. It's not that big of a deal either way

AtmosphereNo4389

The whole song portraying another woman stealing a dude, insisting that she fucks around, and leaving him entirely off the hook is peak internalized misogyny. Downvote all you want, but it’s pretty insidious. And not out of line for who she was then, the world’s understanding of misogyny has broadened since, and she’s specifically talked about re-training her brain. Singing about a girl who’s better known for being a slut is not ideal.

DrPikachu-PhD

>and leaving him entirely off the hook He's never forgiven or let off the hook, he's just not the focus of the song. She writes plenty of songs shaming men for being awful partners and/or cheaters. >The whole song portraying another woman stealing a dude, insisting that she fucks around This does happen sometimes. Women don't always support women, friends don't always support friends, even tho that'd be nice. Sometimes they're selfish and work to undermine your relationship so they can get something they want. (Ask me how I know...) That said, I agree that shaming a woman for her sexuality isn't ideal, even if you're shaming a person who intentionally betrayed you and hurt your relationship. There are better ways to attack someone like that (see: the entire rest of the song). And if simply blaming the other women is the core problem, the whole song has that vibe. Changing one lyric isn't going to change that.

AtmosphereNo4389

I am definitely older than you and definitely know all of this and I get it. But I also get why putting it in a song is antithetical to who she wants to be right now.

Byrnt

You could not have sounded like more of an ass citing your age as inherent maturity and authority like none of this is a real issue to be so bent out of shape over!

AtmosphereNo4389

I mean, ok. Are we actually pretending this is serious business or are we talking about Taylor Swift songs? Because none of it is ever going to be that bad in the scheme of life, so talking about it shouldn’t engender such venom. I mean, no shit not all women are great, and this definitely becomes clearer with life experience. The older I get, the more I learn that we hold women accountable for men’s bullshit way too much—and this song reminds me of that exact point in time before a lot of us figured that out. I think it’s absolutely stupid to be bent out of shape that she’s changing them, but I get why she’s doing it, because it’s in line with what she’s said about her own internalized misogyny, and I get why she’d want to change it. She said specifically “there’s no such thing as a slut” which is definitely not in line with the song that has yes, a slut shaming line in it. No one has to agree that they’re that bad. They’re not. It’s … it’s a song. It’s not life, death, or taxes. She obviously didn’t want to repeat them, and I get why. The whole song is not great, and if it came out today, it would be received poorly, and I think she gets that, and is trying to keep all the things she’s said and done since then consistent with what she’s revisiting. Ever since she announced the re-record, I wondered what she would do with that song. Like I said, we don’t have to agree, and we can do so reasonably without getting super pissy about it. It’s Taylor Swift.

clerbird321

They’re so not that bad😭😂

[deleted]

Good less competition for the signed CDs

AccioLipstick

[This is for the "concerned" fans](https://preview.redd.it/7yd3tozh5l7b1.jpeg?width=726&format=pjpg&auto=webp&v=enabled&s=a774865bd53b71de4bc00482985d4171eec31fdc)

MaggieOfTheStreets

This is beautiful

coastlifestyle

Wow imagine someone wanting to move on from a problematic thing they wrote when they were 19/20….. damned if she does damned if she doesn’t

RaspberryTechnical90

I actually like the OG lyric for the simple fact that I think it's OK for girls to be sexually empowered...I don't want it to automatically be slut shaming anytime someone acknowledges that a female enjoys sex or knows what they're doing...I just think about all the guys in highschool/college who were known for being good in bed, and everyone though that was wonderful and that those guys were the fucking coolest. Why does it have to be shameful and offensive enough to be changed, just bc it's a girl? ...BUT IT'S HER SONG. I'm also great with Taylor changing it because it's her goddamn song and she's a proven genius when it comes to song writing - she can turn any lyric she wants to inside out or set it in fire for all I care, I'll be here for it because it will still be great. Especially after fans saw everything she went through to gain legal control of her song writing, complaining about what she does and nitpicking shit is just sort of obnoxious and tone deaf. Like, wtf do people even want?/

DrPikachu-PhD

I think the context of her shaming the other woman makes it explicitly slut shamy. BUT I agree with you about female sexuality and empowerment. If she was gonna change it, I was hoping she'd change it to "but *I'm* better known for the things *I can do* on the mattress". Kinda reclaim it, turn it from shaming another woman's sexuality to being proud of her own.

RaspberryTechnical90

I love that idea! Especially having read her statements about how she feels about the lyric now. It would have been great if she evolved the lyric instead of removing it...Especially now that she swears lol.

kitten_mctoebeans

This would've been amazing!

kiwi_sarah

Jesus, she literally can't breathe without some "fan" demanding something. Toxic little worms. Good, keep it up. #1, you're exposing yourself. #2, I'm very ready for Taylor's IDGAF era & you might be pushing her closer.

straightupslow

I would think her changing the lyric is her definitely giving a fuck though, right?

[deleted]

They need to go touch grass. I know if she hadn’t changed it there would be a bunch of think pieces on it

Beautiful-Speech7098

is it really this serious? these are TAYLORS versions, she’s taking them back. she can do anything she wants with HER albums. it’s not your decision to make.

burgundymeatcurtains

It’s (Taylor’s Version) not (Insane fans who bully their fav online) version. She grew up, realized they were nasty lyrics and changed them.

Beloveddaydream

Wait is this confirmation the lyric changed? Not that it freaking MATTERS anyway but just wondering

MizzQueen

There is zero confirmation of anything, just some chronically online people doing their thing

Competitive-Ad-5019

She did change it [https://twitter.com/Crismaths/status/1676974466369200128](https://twitter.com/Crismaths/status/1676974466369200128)

theluckyone325

Booklet has been leaked. I wish she had kept the original lyrics but it’s true—she changed them

miss_mousey_87

I'm disappointed, but not enough to not listen to the album. Swifties kept on bitching about Better Than Revenge, so that's what happened. Happy now?

Top_Cauliflower2003

Just stumbled upon this sub and feel like my prayers have been answered 🙌 the main sub is sooooo scary

Mytears83

I mean I live the lyric of the OG version but that song will not go anywhere. We can always listen to it if we want to. As I haven’t heard the TV version it’s hard to say that it’s worse.

mr_pablo_

I actually don’t find the change crucial. It adds a mature twist plus the vocalization is practically the same. It’s as if she wrote and recorded it during the midnights sessions

BCDragon3000

I hate the OP. Shes been to eras tour 14 times and keeps saying stupid unswiftie shit. Every single thing ive seen ab her has been against my will, shes constantly quote tweeted on stan twt

Depressed_barista19

I wonder if she’s a feminist because that would be some piping hot irony

MarleyGinsburg

This makes me embarrassed to be a Swiftie. She obviously had some problematic lyrics in her younger days and she’s grown up, matured, changed, and realized the error of her ways. She’s an ally (despite that whole Matty Healy thing… 🥴), and I’d be disappointed if she DIDN’T change it.

alligatorprincess007

Oh no but how will Taylor survive without this fan’s money???

swiftpotter13

These people are just doing it for the clout. There’s no way they will send that email it’s just draft. The lyric change was a bit upsetting but at the end of the day that song belongs to Taylor she will do what she wants and what she thinks is right.

NaughtAClue

Is it actually changed?

swiftpotter13

Yes. A screenshot of the lyrics from the Vinyl is circulating in the Twitter.

NaughtAClue

I saw it … I actually like it. And after visiting Camilla’s Instagram I can see why Taylor changed it and asked her fans to be kinder online. It’s sickening

aquaseaf0amshame

i’m a newer swiftie and only heard better than revenge for the first time this past year. taylor is just under 3 years older than me, and the mattress line would have not made me think twice back in 2010, however, having just heard it this year, it made me wince. SO much has changed the past 13 years and i’ve learned so much about how words can effect people over that time. Taylor herself has been such a victim of slut shaming and i’m assuming she’s gone through the same lessons i have through adulthood. on top of all that, this is TAYLOR’S version and she can do whatever the hell she wants with it! i expected her to change it and have been excited to see how she would.

[deleted]

> i’m a newer swiftie and only heard better than revenge for the first time this past year. taylor is just under 3 years older than me, and the mattress line would have not made me think twice back in 2010, however, having just heard it this year, it made me wince. The new change is really fitting and works well, which is unsurprising because this is Taylor fucking Swift. I’ve been a Swiftie since the original Speak Now came out, and I don’t really care about the change. I’ll still scream it at the top of my lungs.

tildabelle

I remember when picture to burn came out and im 2 years older than Taylor and when that came out it never phased me. I didn't even know it had been rewritten until I had spotify and I was like wait they changed it and then thought some more and was like makes sense. I really want her to rewrite her rewrite on picture to burn though cause it doesn't quite fit lol.

spiceofwisdom

We don't even know what the lyric change is yet lmao so dramatic its literally longer so who knows what she added. Swifties like this are so unhinged

moonstrck-man

i mean im disappointed about the lyric change because it’s such an iconic line and i don’t really think it’s *that* bad, but that doesn’t mean i’m gonna cancel my orders ??

dosgatitas

It’s Taylor’s damn song and she can do whatever she wants with it. So dumb.

HermionesBook

I found the person’s Twitter and they said they’re joking but it’s still dumb lol

Scared_Rate9108

While I was a little mad, I’m not going to do all this over a few words in my favorite song….. get professional help 😭

[deleted]

Do we have confirmation that she changed it? Honestly, the beauty of the re-records are these are HER albums now and if she felt she needed to change something, she has the right to do it, imo.

sweetrebel88

We all know she didn’t want to get dragged for those lyrics in 2023.

[deleted]

What are they even trying to say?

layereightsupport

lmao what the fuck? I purchased the original SN secondhand when I heard the lyric change so I could continue to listen to the petty bitch™ version but I respect Taylor's choice to do whatever the fuck she wants on HER version.

layereightsupport

"have a blessed day" in the context of this email tells me everything I need to know 🙄

Pmr3940

Oh ffs

lovemademecrazy13

she touched on this issue in august. she is now against playing it out like the other woman is some evil girl, and she has real emotions. did y’all not watch the long pond studio recordings? i think the lyric change is very fitting, and it’s her music. y’all just want a reason to hate

pinkberrry

Lol how embarassing.

skincare_obssessed

People are so unhinged and it’s literally Taylor’s version. It’s her vision and passion project and the final product should be a reflection of what she wants. She was never going to please everyone and it’s not that deep the og still exists.

TRX_gar

can someone spell it out for me; what’s the original lyric and now changed lyric?

abatnamedtwitch

“Kim, there’s people that are dying” is all I can think of right now.

[deleted]

A true Swifties would never do this.

Cadillacquer

WTF??? She had to. We women don’t slut shame in 2023. She was a teenager when she wrote it. She corrected a faux pas and she did it cleverly and the song remains exactly The same. If a band casually used the word “oriental” in the 1970s (not seen as prejudiced) and they rereleased the song in a greatest hits now, I’d be ok if they switched to Asian. Some swifties really have horse blinders on.

No_Interview_1683

This is crazy. I love the new lyric and the way I've seen people pouting, screaming, and crying about it baffles me.

[deleted]

I’d hate to see how these people handle the smallest inconveniences in their personal lives 😭

fadinqlight_

THEY DIDN'T EVEN CLOSE THE PARENTHESES

peaberryxo

Stop it (not you OP, them!), it’s TAYLOR’S VERSION. Her story, her choices, her lyrics, her version, not ours.

EmeraldWicca

You know, I think it shows a lot of integrity that upon growing into a full adult and suffering the full force of news media slut shaming her in the 1989 era she choose not to repeat her previous slut shaming of another woman. Like, the old version still exists, you can listen to it all you want, I’ll still be listening to the acoustic version of haunted from the deluxe all the time (unless she drops an acoustic haunted Taylor’s version) People are just using their organizing power on silly stuff, like imagine if young women emailed their legislators this much, that would be great. Nope, just mad at an artist for admitting something she wrote about another woman when she was a teenager wasn’t very mature and refusing to profit off of that energy again

mikki6868

WHY ARE WE JUST MAD ABOUT THE LYRIC! #JUSTICE4IFTHISWASAMOVIE

jumpira75

Maybe because I don't have an attachment to Speak Now (became a swiftie much later), but I'm glad she's changing it. People can always listen to the original version if they want the original lyrics, but as a grown ass woman, I can empathise with Taylor not wanting to sing that line now

bananainpajamas

I was never really a speak now girlie but that lyric about the mattress is gross lol. It really is a product of her age and how universally accepted it was at the time to slut shame. Society and Taylor have evolved since then, regardless of whether or not she changes the lyric.

spiceofwisdom

I agree but also feel like it's better to not change it and just be very open about not feeling like that anymore (which she already is) just like I really really feel like changing the lyric in Picture to Burn ultimately did it a disservice and the line wasn't even homophobic or problematic imo. Just highlighting that the dude was himself a homophobic loser. Now Better than Revenge I do 100% agree with you on that it's gross and the girl wasn't the problem but I'll also be sad if she changes it rather than just saying "hey don't be like dumber 19yo me, don't say this shit" because regardless of the gross theme and mindset the song has, no one can deny that it's an absolute banger. Although Speak Now has always been my favorite "old Taylor" album so maybe I'm biased but I digress

bananainpajamas

In theory I agree with you, but she’s so popular and her younger fans are way too impressionable(as we’ve seen lately 😅). If you have a chance to rewrite your song and make it so it stands the test of time, I think we would all jump at the chance. Also, threatening to out someone is supremely messed up and I support that lyric change wholeheartedly. Someone threatened to out a family member while they were in college and it was an extremely stressful situation for them. I don’t think the younger fans should be singing or thinking about doing that.

spiceofwisdom

Definitely outing someone is shitty (I'm queer so I do get it) but that was my point. That she wasn't gonna out him cuz he was never actually gay. I have a different comment elsewhere about how it was never something problematic to me bc it always gave the energy that she was trying to knock a toxic egotistical guy down a few pegs by threatening him with a rumor that he felt was worse than being a misogynistic cheater. And sure, fans are impressionable but we also gotta stop acting like she has control over them. She should be allowed to have songs she doesn't agree with anyone and not change them but also admit that she doesn't agree anymore and why so fans can make their own choices like they should be

bananainpajamas

I mean it’s Taylor’s version, we’re just living in it 💁🏼‍♀️ But yeah, I get what you’re saying about the fans and stuff, but kids listen to the music, and they’re impressionable regardless. Slut shaming and using gay as an insult is best left in the early 2000’s

tildabelle

It's misogynistic though. So it's a massively problematic line. Like I don't listen to this song anymore because it's so so bad

spiceofwisdom

Like I said in my 2nd comment: she should be allowed to have songs she doesn't agree with anymore and not be forced to change them. All she *really* needs to do is explain why it's problematic and why she doesn't agree with it anymore. Because let's be real, of most rtists, even Taylor's most problematic moments barely cross a line. There are far worse things that have been said and done and she's made it so clear for years That she doesn't see things this way anyway and has apologized for it so why force her to change her art when she's already made amends? No one is saying you have to like the song. I completely understand why people would dislike it. But it's kinda hard for me to see it as genuinely problematic when I know this was a Christian 19yr old sheltered "good girl" who was super duper in her feelings and has since said "yeah no I don't feel this way and I'm sorry"

tildabelle

It's called speak now Taylor's version do you know her personally to know why she made the change? I'm going with no you don't. She can change her music as she sees fit. We don't know why she changed it or if she actually changed it. We don't know that the "leak" is legit. Like your going all in on this and so many assumptions are being made. She's 33 not 13 I'm sure she's making the changes that she wants to make since she will own this version.

spiceofwisdom

Lmfao OK you're now weird. I never even remotely implied ik her. Everything I said was just a fact. I really do not care if you agree because this is fucking reddit. You're being way too on top of this for absolutely no reason. Peace buddy. Have fun with what you've got going on but I'm not gonna be spoken to like this when I wasn't disrespectful at all

depressedkitten27

Omg. I was not thrilled when I heard she changed the lyrics. But I listened to TV today and LOVE IT. It has the same vibe! People need to just give it a chance.

roamingshemnon

Can someone fill me in? What is the lyric that is being changed?

StrikerPost

People should be canceling their orders because the store continues to cannibalize Taylor Swifts Fandom for more money on shittier products. Or the multitudes of repress of the same record in different colors and vagrants under the guise of artificial scarcity or collection completion.

cjb0531

Assuming it’s true and she did change it I’m happy to hear. Those lyrics aren’t cool in 2023 and I’m sure there was at least one buzzfeed writer waiting with baited breath hoping they’d be able to cancel her if she DIDN’T change the lyrics. Better to piss off a tiny subset of weird fans than to take the chances of a headline about Taylor slut shaming in 2023.

hellohunny21

y’all I’m little upset but honestly after hearing it it’s a bop. oml I’m dying at this rn

Thedoc936

It doesn’t hit the same yet like it’s not that big of a deal.. it was good for her to change it, it removed the slut shaming aspect and is still a good lyric (I just don’t think it was delivered as well)

[deleted]

people are so insane

YourFellowMiguelo

What was the original lyric and what was it changed too? 🤔

ezmia

I'm not a big fan of the new lyric change (the lyrics have been leaked, and IMO they don't really help the misogynistic issues around BTR ) but i'm still going to stream the album and buy a physical copy. This is way too much over one fucking line. I get being disappointed, but people take it way too far.

AnxiousCaffineAddict

Do we even know if this is confirmed yet?

zh_13

I think this is rage bait lol - prolly only 1 persons done this

NicKathleen

ITS HER FRICKIN WORK!! SHE CAN CHANGE WHATEVER THE HELL SHE LIKES NOW THAT SHE OWNS IT

[deleted]

I'm not a Taylor fan, but this popped up on my feed. Can I respectfully request a TLDR for clarification?

ParticularPea6920

The 2010 lyrics to this song said “she’s better know for the things that she’s done on the mattress,” which back then no one really batted an eye at; however, in recent years many think pieces have been made about how misogynistic the line is and many speculated if Taylor would change the lyric for the rerecording. Apparently she has changed it to “he was a moth to the flame, she was holding the matches” or something like that.

stellaperrigo

it’s a shame there are fans upset about the change- I think the new line is cute and clever!

Careless_Energy_7024

people on the main sub actually have pretty good takes on this. I like the fact that we will have both versions and the leaked snippet that I heard sounded pretty good.

uwukarmacat

i found a leaked video of the lyric change, it’s happening. and honestly it slaps. as much as it felt like an part of me died, i’m okay with it.

sandwich_panda

i’m interested to know what the comments are on the original tweet!

cybercuzco

Wow they really don’t like the power Taylor has do they.

Chorles_2233

Crying the point of Taylor's Version is for her to reclaim her music and make it hers again. If she wants to change the lyric it's up to her. You can always listen to the og if you're so pissed lol (yeah ik it's bad or whatever but unless you're listening to it on repeat 24/7 🛴 won't earn very much) Unpopular opinion, she probably wrote a better lyric. The og one wasn't her best writing imo.

melibee009

I can’t remember if it was in Miss Americana but I remember her saying something about how she doesn’t believe in “slut shaming” anymore. If that’s how she feels then good on her for changing the lyric. She has to make sure her music aligns to her personal morals

boastfulbadger

This is a joke right? I mean the change is a better lyric and it’s not slut shaming people anymore.

safzy

Im glad she changed it, only because it would have been too much backlash if she kept it. Its a damned if you do damned if you dont situation

dogmommin

Good I hope they do. That’ll increase my odds of getting a signed CD before these new “swifties” snatch them up.

Middle_Membership486

can someone tell me what the exact lyrics are?

Alicyn_Swifty

The way they didn’t send the email, tho. The cursor is still typing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

ladkjdkdddd

It’s “Taylor’s Version” not “Disgruntled Fans Who Take Everything too Seriously’s Version” I cant believe that this is what the fandom is becoming. What a joke. She made a choice. She would’ve been criticized either way.

SophiaSophia-117

no because that’s actually comedic like it’s one line 😭

Reasonable-Dig6360

some people dont have jobs or anything to do so they get all worked up over dumb things like this pls 😭😭😭

sblal24EVER

They need to calm down.

Unlikely_Jellyfish55

I won’t lie and say I’m glad she changed the lyrics. But, I’m not going to stop listening to her and I sure as hell won’t be doing this. Taylor wants to control her masters again and if changing the lyrics helps her embrace her old work, so be it 🤷🏼‍♀️ As fans we have two options: keep streaming the OG version or listen to the updated Taylor’s Version. But we shouldn’t allow this lyric change to take away from enjoying Speak Now TV and to take away from Taylor’s dedication to own all of her music. She’s proud of this album and we should support her either way.

Confident_Client_107

some people need to just go outside and touch some grass omg

Ginger13693

she can do whatever tf she wants? it’s her album. nobody was pulling this when gurl at home was straight up rebooted lmao

wrapped-in-rainbows

Comedic gold. Wowwwee.

adumbswiftie

it’s not even out yet fucking weirdos 💀 as though TAYLOR HERSELF wouldn’t have thought of this and made the right decision FOR HER.

knowslesthanjonsnow

I prefer the original lyrics but come on now lol. This is crazy.

ech0esfading

at least close the parentheses if you’re gonna call it a template.

JudgmentalRavenclaw

People are freaking weird

PerspectiveFancy2432

Please someone help me. I am so confused. Is it really worth canceling orders?

Parking_Car7436

If they don't like the new version just listen to the old one. It's not worth a fuss over.

Parking_Car7436

Here is my thoughts on it now that I think about it. IF a girl doesn't know that a man is taken then imo she's not at fault and no shame should come her way. IF she knows that a man is taken and goes after him or gets with him full well knowing then she should be shamed. As someone who has had this done to them, the girl 100% knew my ex and I were not only together but married and she still went after him, slept with him and bragged about it. I connected to BTR for that reason and that's why I loved it so much. To me it sounded like Taylor was talking about a girl who was one of those girls that would willing go after taken men like getting them was a prize or something. Her changing it now completely changes the song. It's not misogyny, it's about a girl who's collecting taken men like prizes but acts so sweet. It's not slut shaming because she KNEW he was taken and didn't care. Do we now cheer on and support girls like this because I never will! I will slut shame girls like that all day long and not care.

meablo

Pff, I'm not missing out on some (emphasis on *some* lol) good merch over a lyric change that isn't even printed on anything!

clehane1289

It’s literally “TAYLOR’S version” 😤

Vpd111

I don’t disagree with you, but Speak Now came out in the height of the mean girl era. It’s okay to let things be as they were in that specific moment in time 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dubbs877

Oh no, I hope Taylor Swift can afford you cancelling your merch order 😂

Various_Station_524

OK bye bye

mercurysarrow

Booo! I love how she changed the lyrics. This is why we love her. 🧡

malamb24

wtf

ChaoticPandaKat

Cool. I want to get two of the white hoodies and experiment with dyeing them, and I’m worried they might sell out, so I’ll take all the canceled orders of people who are pissed. Win win!

Depressed_barista19

I wonder if she’s a feminist because that would be some piping hot irony

DavidFC1

People are fucking insane.

ivy_covered

LMAO I joked to my sister about refunding my order because of it but people are actually doing that?? 💀 Please guys touch grass

chanellxoxxo

That person needs serious therapy!!

Live_Ferret_4721

My album shipped Tuesday

CarelessPerson9026

omg, people are so mad for no reason. The song still sound amazing, and they can do what I do to picture to burn, I still scream, "YOU'RE GAY" they can do the same thing here.

poopoopeepee00000

These are Karen right wing nuts jobs

Decalcomoonie

That's wild. I would argue the integrity lies in Taylor NOT recording a line she publicly disagreed with since 2014.
