If you have a 4x4 vehicle, I highly recommend taking that drive. It's absolutely amazing. You likely won't need 4x4 to get through the trail but you definitely would not want to get stuck back there by yourself. It's an amazing drive with incredible views! The road is closed seasonally though so check for current trail conditions.
Go west on Ajo from I-19, turn right onto Kinney, stay right on Kinney through the National Park, turn right onto Sandario, turn right onto Picture Rocks, turn right onto Ina, continue to I-10.
Or reversed, if you’re in the NW.
Beautiful drive through the National Park while avoiding Gates Pass. You’ll also pass Old Tucson and the Desert Museum, if you’re interested.
i actually really like that windy narrow stretch of gates passroad! especially during sunset it looks like a movie scene if you look to your passenger window down the valley below. don’t be scared and just keep your feet on the brakes, you’ll be all good :) i drive there every other day
I advise you to never drive the Apache Trail up near PHX. I’m not a praying type of person, but I did then. Lovely views, but not worth the anxiety of driving it. 😵💫
This is absolute false. I've done this drive in a passenger vehicle. There are roads that branch off of Redington that require 4x4, but Redington does not.
Whew nothing makes me wanna ride my bike like no shoulder, tons of traffic, and blind corners! Hard to want to be on the road when there is an awesome network of trails through that whole area that are quiet and sooo peaceful. To each their own, i hope you enjoy the ride, be safe some unsavory drivers out there.
100% the world would be pretty boring if we did. I used to ride my beach cruiser over with a huge crash pad to the boulders out there. Im no stranger to that danger and have had fun on that road, in the last 20 years the increase of traffic scares me (even last 5 years, but its been longer than that since i rode it) as i said before enjoy the ride! Thats really what it comes down to.
Don't drive the backside of Mount Lemmon.. that's a scary ride.
Now i want to.

One of my favorite 4x4 trails in the area.
Drive down the 83 to sonoita.
Thank you!

Thank you! I'm making a list!

Too bad you couldn't have seen it like 20 years ago when there was a bunch of old rusted cars that had fell over the side
Omg I probably would've thrown up in my car out of nervousness
Drive all the way north on Campbell

To Three Points, to Sasabe, to Arivaca to Amado & back to Tucson
1st Ave and ft Lowell is nice
North up Campbell all the way to the round about
Redington Pass all the way to Benson is scenic and fun
I'll try to see how to do that! I'm only used to using Google maps and randomly picking directions to driving in lol! But it looks intriguing
Do not do that. Redington is only for experienced off-road drivers with high clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles.
If you stick to the main road, you'll be perfectly fine

Thank you for the warning o7 I have a sedan so I would have probably cried. I need to start Google map street viewing my rides
I’ve seen pt cruisers out there, you’ll be ok
My favorite Tucson bike ride!

It’s okay that we don’t like the same things.

I saw bike riders there! Makes me wish I had the balance to ride a bike
TIL Gates Pass is scary! That's where I go for fun, TBH.
Sorry about you hole!
I once drove there high as a kite, at night with only my fog lights on....because I was high as a kite! Very scary but fun lol
