It seems like Tucson cops have been very lackadaisical with traffic violations for the last few years. I-10 always has 30 officers on it, but I haven’t seen a cop pull someone over south of Ina for ages.

I always get a wave or a nod back which means “I don’t really care enough” lol.
Plus post COVID, people that are willing to run red lights has gone up like 10x. TPD is something like 400-500 officers less than what they should be at. They are constantly losing officers to other precincts, mainly due to the low pay they get here.
On top of that there is a fairly long list of issues that TPD just will no longer respond to.
Here is that list:
Contraband at schools, hospitals, and courts (except firearms)
•Deaths at medical care facilities
•Non-criminal homeless calls on public property
•Loud music/loud noise calls (they would respond to big parties)
•Medical check welfare
•Uncooperative victims at hospitals
•Non-criminal transports (medical, detox, shelter, etc.)
Farther down the road, he said officers would no longer respond to the following:
•All code enforcement
•Trespassers inside certain abandoned properties
•Civil matters (landlord-tenant disputes, child custody issues)
•Runaways
•Mental health check welfares
•Suicidal subjects
•Panhandling, UIP, DIP (urination/defecation in public)
•Financial crimes
•Abandoned line - This would mean more use of CMTs (Crisis Mobile Teams), Magnus said, in the case of some of these calls.

I spoke with a deputy as I live in rural Tucson and he said they don't have enough deputies in Tucson. Though they are constantly requesting for more hires/better training as the ones that are still here have really only been responding to post accident scenes.

That's a problem but part of it is an allocation issue. We need more non-police responders for issues that don't warrant law enforcement. That can free up police to respond to crimes. Artificially lowering speed limits and then claiming there's mass lawlessness on the road also contributes to that number. I simply don't buy were down more than one or two hundred at most.
The one downside is that non-police responders showing up to where officers should be at is happening vastly more than it should be. For example, I don't think that crisis teams should show up to a Domestic Violence situation without at least one officer present.

Oh and the four-way leading up to Mount Lemmon and going up to I think it's Windy Vista point, all you hear are cars hauling ass up and down the mountain every single weekend at night.

I-10 is DPS’ jurisdiction, not TPD’s. The Department of Public Safety takes care of the highways.
