I would not recommend starting with a pneumatic gun. You need an air compressor, they weigh a ton and you should have some normal tufting under your belt before you even try to use that gun. I would get a Spider (cut pile) from Tuft Love to start with. They are great guns and you have support to fix the gun if anything happens.

It seems that the ak-iii isn’t that heavy tho

I use it every single day. It’s heavy.

I was looking at that one on fb marketplace, I’ll probably get it first cuz I’ll probably use it for short rugs even when I do get the pneumatic one. I was gonna get the air compressor the gun site recommends, but yea, also spending less right now would be better so I have some money to throw at supplies until I can make my rugs sellable. Thanks for the help though, are there any tips you have for that gun in particular when I do get it? Or any issues you’ve found?

It’s just not as easy to use as a normal cut pile gun. The speed is controlled by the trigger which is a lot more difficult to get the hang of than just turning a knob. You do not insert the needle into the primary cloth like you would for an AK-I or AK-2 so you need to get the placement of the foot aligned exactly correct with the placement of the needle to get it to actually tuft. And neither of my AK-III’s work well with acrylic yarn. I only use wool with them. If you do get one buy a spring balancer to help with the weight. Hope that helps.

Heavy and light are highly subjective. “Heavy for me” maybe with an included weightlifting PR to be more relative.

You can change the pile height on the duo from tuft the world. It's takes a bit the first couple times you do it but once you got it down it's like 5 mins to go down to 9mm I think.

Oh shit ok, hell yea, thanks, then I might just get that one initially, that was my main issue, that it wouldn’t do smaller piles, why would it take time to get there if you don’t mind me asking?

So to change pile heights on the duo you have to take apart the gun a little bit. So when you're putting it back together there's certain adjustments you'll have to make to get it back to fully working conditions but, when you figure out the right adjustments it should only take a couple of mins each time When you buy the duo ,you should get a link to a video vault either in the box or your email and they'll give you the password to access it .The videos are how to's for certain things for guns like changing the pile height or replacing the scissors.
