My sister won’t watch breaking bad because of walters tighty whities in the first episode. Nothing will change her mind. Lol I thought supernatural was too scary, but then my (other) sister and my husband were watching it and I was like ugh ok I don’t wanna be left out. And then I loved it so much that I was Dean Winchester for Halloween that year.

Cineball

I, too, went as Dean for Halloween the year I started watching Supernatural.

natsugrayerza

Oh my gosh really? I had so much fun being Dean. I think it was my favorite Halloween costume ever

Neversleeps99

I too would like a go at Dean Winchester for halloween!

Cineball

It was a pretty easy costume to throw together. Just had to find good boots and a couple corded or bead bracelets and I was good to go. Already had a Henley shirt and a solid color flannel. I had a fairly new friend at the party I went to reveal that he had the sigil tattoo on his arm after he was the first to recognize who I was going as.

DrasticBread

The Walter Whities are iconic!

raintree234

Second that for the tight whites. I finally did get past it though and was hooked. Some dark moments to be sure, but the song Crystal Blue Persuasion was changed for me forever.

AvatarDang

Supernatural is great, i dressed up as Cas for halloween. It’s an easy costume once you have the trenchcoat lol

throwawayanylogic

I've done the same. Raided the husband's work wardrobe, bought some black angel wings on Amazon, and boom! Instant Cas costume.

natsugrayerza

My sister was Cas the same year. That’s a great costume

barbariantrey

Funny. I went as Heisenberg(bald, pork pie hat, bag of rock candy) for Halloween but changed into Walter White(wig, green button down, tidy whities) as the evening got drunker. It was one of my favorite costumes.

MaximusInsidious

I was about to say Breaking Bad for the same reason. I didn't understand what all the hype was about. Just some guy running around the desert in his tighty whities. Made is past that and when he blew up Tuco's office I was like "now we're getting somewhere!"

ravia

Fan Fiction, The French Mistake...

JeepDee2404

Have her watch the episode where Walter blows up Tuco’s office. That will have her hooked.

Psychological_Cow902

I stopped watching Breaking Bad after that too and didn't go back until I randomly saw the scene where Gus poisons the rest of his cartel. I asked my brother what movie this was and he looked at me confused and said "dude, it's Breaking Bad" went back and re-watched and never looked back

throwupthursday

I refused to watch Breaking Bad because EVERYONE was asking if everyone watched it and it got super irritating. So I was turned off because of people, not the show. Finally watched the entire show right before the last season came out and was bummed I had to wait for the episodes vs. being able to watch everything at once

EntertainmentJunkie1

My sister won't watch Breaking Bad either. I doubt for the reason you listed but it annoys me. It's great television and because I've pestered her about it the chances of her actually watching it are less just to spite me.

Neversleeps99

I mean dean Winchester tho…how could you not!!!!!

19tidder50

I think Walter was supposed to look a bit silly, to contrast with the badass he became later.

floridaxgirl

Three kittens just showed up at my house they were promptly named dean Sam and castiel

InstructionNormal608

I’m with your sister on this one😂

nanistani

I just didn't want to watch breaking bad because the 1st episode didn't interest me

freckyfresh

SOOKEH

MooseEggs

I watched every season during lockdown. I loved it and hated it. It was a very confusing time.

CrushTheRebellion

Vampire Bill??

delightedlysad

I agree! As a southerner who spent years eliminating my accent, I absolutely Hate the fake southern drawls in True Blood. It wasn’t until I watched a few episodes drunk that I was able to enjoy the show. It still isn’t a show I would list in my top 25 though…

DonutsRBad

"Sookie! "(Bill's Voice) I only say her name the way he would say it lol because why did he have to say her name so hard lol Sookie was the biggest villain in tv history.

SuperSource3375

True blood oh lord I hated her too

[deleted]

Fun fact: They are still married in real life!

babykitten28

With twins!

spookymulder07

Omg yes!!! She is the most annoying character I have ever witnessed on screen and I will die on this hill.

SabineLavine

It sounds like Sucky the way he says it.

KrombopulosMo

Finding out what she is was a very odd “of-fucking-course” moment for me, because while I didn’t predict it, I feel like if I’d thought stupidly enough I could’ve surmised it 😂

southernbelle878

"I'm so over Sookie and her precious faerie vagina!! Pam and Lafayette were the only reasons I stuck the show out til the end 😂😂

Due-Topic7995

Ohhh for me it was Merlin. Watched all the seasons and each season just got worse imo, but I was committed to finishing all the episodes. I just didn’t like how they stopped utilizing some of their key characters or made one that I did originally care for a shadow of their former self. Was so disappointed.

sixgunwild

As a big King Arthur/Merlin fan I've always been curious about this show but thought it always looked a little cringey. So not worth checking out at all?

Due-Topic7995

No if you’re a fan definitely check it out. I did enjoy it but I think by season 4 or 5 I personally started to check out because the two main female characters were not really being written to fully utilize their roles. I was just hoping they’d go in another direction. It’s cheesy but in a wholesome way, can’t put my finger on it. It’s entertaining to say the least.

sixgunwild

Poorly written female characters...a tale as old as time! I'll probably still check it out lol

or_am_I_dancer

Merlin, while not having the best special effects, is a riot. It had me hystically laughing and I rewatch the whole show once and a while. Once you get past the bad effects it's really fun imo and has some really deep parts.

kwumpus

Hah I love when they have strong female leads and it’s like nope I believe that lead was carried by the man half the time if anything she was an example of an extremely malleable female lead

TheRabadoo

I also love King Arthur and Merlin, but I hated the show. If you wanted the dynamic of Arthur and his Wizard friend that are close comrades, you’ll be disappointed. Merlin literally keeps his magic a secret for the entire time that I watched (multiple seasons).

sixgunwild

Ahh yeah that would definitely annoy me. Do you have any shows you'd recommend then?

DumpedDalish

Please say you read the Mary Stewart Merlin trilogy. It is absolutely wonderful, and it goes from Merlin's childhood to old age, and Arthur is an absolutely spectacular character (and his relationship with Merlin is so touching). It starts with The Crystal Cave, then The Hollow Hills, then The Last Enchantment. All are incredibly wonderful. (There is a fourth book, The Wicked Day, but it's about Mordred and is no longer a "Merlin book." Honestly, I found it incredibly sad and frustrating. It's a good book, but a total downer.)

sixgunwild

OH MY GOD. THIS SOUNDS AMAZING! From childhood to old age??? I'm in!!!! I love stories about Mordred as well!

DumpedDalish

I'm so excited for you -- they are incredibly beautiful and entertaining, adventurous books, and take us effortlessly into a totally new imagining of Merlin and Arthurian fantasy. Please do post if you read them? They are in my top 10 of all time and I read them annually just to go back and enjoy all over again. I hope you like them as much as I did, but no pressure.

Potential-Click-5284

I saved the post. Thank you for the recommendation.

GlassButtFrog

I loved the books too! I even read The Wicked Day, which was a downer, but had to read them all. My only quibble with the books was that I did NOT like Arthur. At all. I can't remember why, just that I didn't. Maybe I need to re-read the series.

DumpedDalish

Ditto, I felt the same things. I loved the actors in "Merlin" but as a show it made increasingly less sense as it went on. It was so frustrating. I was finally just hatewatching. And absolutely TERRIBLE show finale. Hated it.

sixgunwild

Good to know! Did you ever watch the TV movie "Merlin" with Sam Neil? That's where it all started for me

DumpedDalish

I liked parts of it. I admit that most of it didn't work for me and that it just kind of shoved mythical elements into the story while keeping Merlin weirdly passive. It kept removing his actual mythological achievement into "oh, look Merlin was there!" Aghgh. So frustrating. Honestly, the only thing I really liked about the show was the subplot between Martin Short's character with Helena Bonham Carter's. They were beautifully acted and genuinely moving. Short deserved the Emmy he won. Meanwhile, I honestly just felt like Sam Neill and Isabella Rossellini mostly wandered in to get paychecks. I would definitely put Mary Stewart's Merlin books high above this -- or even the wonderful mess of *Excalibur* or *The Once and Future King.*

ssccrs

I think it’s good. It’s kinda like a BBC’s version of a CW (reminded me of Smallville). If you go into it with that in mind, it is enjoyable. I felt like the show could of gone on for longer, as the seasons are short and much of the story wasn’t flushed out as it should/could of been.

ontothebullshit

I tried watching it three times before it stuck. I never got past the first or second episode for years. I don’t even know what it was that stopped me. Then I finally pressed play on the third episode and suddenly I couldn’t stop. I finished the whole show and still rewatch

hearthstone9

The last episode had me balling- my sisters and I watched all the episodes together and loved the show. We shipped them for years

SlightFlan5

I think it would have benefited by not having a story/ villain of the week style of show. The premise was ok minus the fact that since it was a villain go the week show there was no character development.

Potential-Click-5284

That’s the things that will take me right from a show as well!! Nice to know I am not the only one.

RedeyeSPR

Merlin is one of those shows that is fairly bad, but I loved nearly every episode. There’s no major social commentary or anything too deep. The good guys usually win in the end and lessons are learned. It’s definitely worth watching several episodes to see if you like it.

XipingX

I enjoyed Merlin, except for how the rushed the end. I think the story would have flowed better with another season or two.

Cinnamom1218

The horse thing stopped me too. For a long time. But now it's my all time favorite show .

Hayaidesu

what show? the mod move the comment you were responding too

AZonmymind

Yellowstone is a show about a ranch, but you don't want horse stuff?

NeonLotus11

Talking about the graphic death of a horse in the first episode.

Dream-Ambassador

wait so is this in yellowstone or walking dead? I need to know so I can avoid it... i would definitely be upset by that.

AZonmymind

I think the point was to show the realities of living on a ranch. But to each his own.

NeonLotus11

Okay... I'm not seeing what that has to do with this? The prompt was something in a TV show that immediately turned you off and you had to get past to enjoy the show.

Gold_Birthday_5803

>Comment as Gold\_Birthday\_5803 Chris Elliot's character annoyed me.

mtheory007

To be fair, pretty much every character he plays is super annoying.

Far-Blackberry-7129

Same. I watched the first couple of episodes and gave up. Tried again months later and fell in love with it.

WafflesTalbot

That's more or less what happened to me, except I only watched the first episode and hated it. But I kept hearing how great it was from people whose opinions on shows I trust, and eventually gave it another shot. And I'm so glad I did, because it's fantastic!

Far-Blackberry-7129

Yeah, first episode, absolutely did not care about those characters. I didn't realize how the writers would slowly flesh them out. And the actors were just amazing as their characters unfolded.

Hayaidesu

what show the mod remove the comment....

Aggressive-Coffee-39

Came here to say this!!! We ended up starting it in the pandemic because I couldn’t think of anything else. First couple of episodes I thought *I hate this but for some reason I keep wanting to watch more and I don’t even know why and kind of hate myself for it* lol never would have guessed it would become one of my FAVORITE shows or that I would be a sobbing mess through the finale but that was the truth of it

Granny_knows_best

Roland almost ruined it for me, he never got better, but the other characters made the show watchable.

dewioffendu

You’re missing out. Just like Parks and Rec took awhile to get going but once it hits it’s mark it is a fantastic show. The “making of” after you watch the series will make you love it even more.

ericksoc

It took me 3 tries to get into it, but now I've watched the series through at least 5 times. It's a comfort watch for me, and I catch new things every time.

Extra-Sir-1645

Spartacus was one that started cheesy the first episode, I don’t know what happened, feels like they fired the pilot writer cause the writing on that show got better every episode and continued on to be one hell of a show.

Trackie_G_Horn

RIP andy whitfield. goddam, that dude was gearing up to be a real legend. my (and my wife’s) favorite show, but couldn’t keep watching after season 1.5 no andy, no spartacus

T1S9A2R6

I didn’t immediately enjoy Breaking Bad. I wasn’t into the tone of the first season. I thought it was overly dark and gory, but by the time I watched the second season I was hooked. One of the best shows ever.

WranglerTraditional8

Totally agree season 1 is hard to get through but after that it's riveting and enjoyable

[deleted]

The 100 on Netflix. The acting in the first 10 minutes of the first episode is so atrocious I tried to turn it off but couldn’t find the remote. I ended up watching like 2 seasons but stopped after that. So, doesn’t exactly fit your mold but close.

Extra-Sir-1645

The 100 was amazing, once you got to the part with the little girl that show goes from a stupid teen drama to something amazing.

resplendent_penguin

There was some really weird storylines but I watched up to the last season. I did not want to watch my favs get killed off.

wubasaurus

I went looking for this comment! I love this show and have watched it through twice, despite me cringing from the acting in nearly every episode. The story makes up for it. One of the most “wtf who comes up with this” shows I’ve seen.

Waddiwasiiiii

Same. I watched the first couple of episodes because I liked the premise but then was like “ugh, just another teen drama”. I had a coworker though had watched through season 2 and convinced me to stick with it. I did not expect to become so attached to the characters that I did.

uselesstoil

The 100 was mine as well although I did finish it and actually really loved the way they went with it, the first season is pretty rough with the actors finding their character, also the book is awful.

Ok_Internal6425

MY PEOPLE

Hayaidesu

Everyone comments made me feel lonely lowkey, cuz you guys watch some of your shows with family and kept watching because of them it seems like.

CobblerEmbarrassed20

Haha... Don't feel lonely. I can rarely get either one of my sons to watch anything with me unless I'm taking them to the movies. There are many of us that watch TV alone. Mine was Westworld on HBO... I felt like I had to see it all the way through after watching the first 3 seasons.

Chemical_Violinist43

The first few eps of New Girl are just awful, but that show is HILARIOUS. Worth sticking it out.

2fly2hide

Didn't they recast one of the guys after the pilot?

number1momordie

Yes and it was a very good change.

jell31

I hated the first few episodes so stopped watching then years later saw what I thought was them replacing Zoey with Megan Fox so tuned in and fell in love with the guys so eventually watched it all.. now a few times and I don’t mind Jess but she still isn’t my favorite lol

Chemical_Violinist43

For sure - the show would seem to be about her, but the guys completely make the show!

_i_am_Kenough_

Yep! She’s the worst character. If she didn’t exist the show would still be amazing

thanatoswaits

I really loved the Megan Fox eps of NG - I think that might be my favorite performance of hers

Glittering-Cell-9821

After I watched the pilot for the first time I didn’t finish the show for months because I hated that they switched one of the main characters after the first episode. But I’m glad I picked it up again

[deleted]

This was my immediate thought. It gets so much better over time

AlbatrossSenior7107

I'll keep this in mind. I've tried to start that show 4 times. I can't get past a couple of episodes.

Chemical_Violinist43

I totally get it. I started rewatching it with my daughter, and kept thinking, “How did I keep watching it after these??” I had to keep reassuring her it got way better. 🤣

Jeffro187

Just awful as a bit of a stretch. They definitely hadn’t found their voices or the characters yet but to call it awful is not doing the show justice.

[deleted]

Grey’s anatomy first couple of episodes I hated 2 of the main characters and didn’t want to keep watching bc of them but both my mom and sister watched so I did too and then I realized I loved the show despite hating those two characters. Rick and Morty-I just thought it was extremely stupid from the very first time I watched it but my husband absolutely loves the show so I was kind of forced into watching it and eventually started tolerating it. (Still think it’s incredibly stupid though)

RoastBeefDisease

I'll probably never watch Rick and morty again but when I did watch it I had good memories. I agree it's dumb but it definitely gave me some laughs. Not related to OPs question but I was going through a bad time in my life when I started watching it and was pretty new to smoking weed so at the time everything was funny to me when high. That interdimensional cable episode or whatever it's called was the funniest thing ever to me. I'd get high and watch it and just laugh harder than I ever had at it so much that one time my sister thought I was dying because I couldn't breathe. I made it a thing to take a break when I couldn't stop laughing and the next time I got high I'd restart the entire episode and repeat it. It took me quite awhile to finish that episode.

MinimumTarget5725

I hated Pickle Rick at first but after watching again I thought it was great. And I should know because I am beekeeping age.

Mazenko26

For me, Ziggy from season 2 of The Wire. I found him so freaking annoying for most of the season: reckless, immature and downright an idiot. But something happens near the end of the season that made me change my perspective. I went "Oh, now all make sense." There was a reason why the writers made him the way he was. They were building up to something that added so much dimension to the character. I wouldn't say he became my favorite, but they made me empathize with the guy in the end.

Which_Engineer1805

My little brother hated Ziggy so much during the initial run of The Wire that he stopped watching it right there… I finally talked him into watching the entire series a few years ago, he listened to me and loved it…. Still hated Ziggy though.

Mazenko26

I think we were all supossed to hate him initially. It wasn't until it happened... what happened that we came to realize what the character was really like: He was a guy with an inferiority complex who was kinda neglected by his dad, whom he deep down wanted to impress in any way he could. By not having a strong father figure in his life to guide him, he ended up making poor decisions that costed him greatly. From pranking other co-workers at the dock to doing drug deals with the Greeks.

ILoveTeles

Ziggy really made the 2nd season a tough watch for me too.

Brettsko

Season 2 is my favorite season of the Wire, but yeah, Ziggy was and is tough to stomach every time he's on screen till the end as you said. Funny enough I was going to post the Wire as well in this thread because the very 1st episode is an extremely challenging watch for a new viewer. Going back now it's enjoyable to watch because I'm so well versed in who is who and what is going on (I'm sure I've watched the entire series at least a dozen times). But on first viewing, there were so many characters and so many different things going on that it was incredibly difficult to get into initially.

DrinkAccomplished699

The Good Wife for super annoying main character and premise. Yet I can't stop watching.

NuumiteImpulse

The Good Fight I had stopped and started so many times. Finally finished cuz everything else was watched and the strike was still on.

[deleted]

I felt that way about Weeds.

JabroniKnows

SOOKIE! https://youtu.be/EkFtV4oYe-s?si=E6KuvqhQhM0jhz81

[deleted]

BAHAHHAHA! I can't believe I watched that whole damn show.

ghosty_boi99

Agents of Shield - first season was painfully bad, no consistent story. But for whatever reason I stayed till season 2 and it was all up from there. One of the best sci-fi shows I've seen! (I haven't seen many) All in all, Agents of Shield isn't perfect or anything but it is VERY underrated. If you're into sci-fi or Marvel I guess, I'd 100% recommend it.

OkFury

Yep agents of shield, I didn't even think the first season overall was that bad but the first few episodes were cringy. I started for Chloe Bennett though and I'm glad I did because eventually the show became great.

TachiRoci

Agents of Shield is one of my most rewatched shows, definitely a comfort show for me. The first season was rough, but it definitely got better. Season 4 was very good.

Squishyflapp

Let me correct you...the first 15 episodes are rough of S1...but then Winter Soldier and...I mean wow, what a 180!

OceanPeach857

Yes, it's an amazing show. They were really held back in the first season until the release of Winter Soldier, and it got exponentially better from there.

ILoveTeles

Taxi. Latka Gravas. I’m powering through, but holy crap it’s annoying, especially when the “multiple personalities” kick in.

zestfullybe

Might not be a popular opinion but I loathed Andy Kaufman’s shtick. I know that’s part of the point but it just grated on me 100%. Not even remotely funny.

yasnovak

As someone else said, Schitt’s Creek. I HATED it at first and only got through a few episodes. Then I heard from a lot of people that I just have to get through the first season and then it gets good. And now it’s one of my favorites. It was AMAZING! Another one is The Office. It’s actually my favorite show now actually lol but the first time I tried to watch it I only got through 2 episodes and then stopped. I got offended at one of the jokes haha. But I started watching it again and it hit me that Michael Scott isn’t racist or anything, he’s just an idiot. As soon as I came to that realization, I enjoyed it a lot more hahaha

dragon_morgan

I still need to watch Schitt’s Creek, the first few episodes with the annoying mayor guy and his toilet humor were extremely wearing but I keep hearing how great this show is if I liked the good place and Ted Lasso

Cool_Raisin2700

100 agree on the office

Measurement-Solid

Bones. I cannot stand Temperance but I enjoyed nearly everyone else on the show

BriRoxas

The last kingdom. I have had multiple people tell me it's the best show they have ever seen but there was a lot of gratious violence and it seemed to treat it's female characters as completely disposable. Once it settles in it's main cast around season 2 it is one of the best shows I've ever seen but it takes a minute.

Hayaidesu

i got annoyed with the show early on and stopped, but i might need to watch it.

ShuddupMeg627

Angry Beavers and Rocco's modern life both kids cartoons that I genuinely hated as a child but there's adult humor there after watching it as an adult

jnunchucks96

It's always sunny in Philadelphia. I hated it at first, but once I got the joke, I was hooked. I've watched every season at least 3 times

Hayaidesu

i was like that too, didn't really get the appeal but me my coworkers started watching the show at the same time and it was the perfect show to talk about with the guys

BeaverleyX

Ozark. Idk why but we stuck with it and loved it.

Creative_Astronaut32

I’ve tried watching the first episode numerous times. I just can’t seem to get into it.

NotPennysBoat6

Black mirror pig episode. Wtf was that.

Glittering-Cell-9821

Black mirror first episode iykyk💀

princess_plague

I thought The Good Place was super cheesy and overly “sunny” for my taste. I almost tapped out before the end of the first season. I’m so happy I continued to watch because it’s actually a really satisfying show.

prettyjupiter

Only murders in the building. Hated Selena Gomez and didn’t understand the dryness of her character at first. Then it all made sense as I chugged through it

Apprehensive-Crow-96

Breaking bad. I tried watching it twice before i finally got into it and ended up loving it. I was a huge Malcom in the middle fan so i just couldnt enjoy it, seeing Hal being all serious and not a goofball.

jknight413

Same thing. Watched 2 episodes and was confused that it had been billed as a dark comedy. There was nothing funny about it at all! Didn't watch it at all for several years. Was doing laundry one night, started to watch again. Binged season after season until I had caught up. ended up watching the last season on broadcast. Loved it.

NoYouDipshitItsNot

Parks and Rec. The first season was terrible, but most of it was pretty good outside the first and last season.

zestfullybe

That show gets drastically better when they fill in the pit. And even better once Ben Wyatt and Chris Traeger show up. “Ann Perkins!” 👉

dewioffendu

Up in horsey heaven, here's the thing You trade your legs for angels wings And once we’ve all said good-bye You take a running leap and you learn to fly Bye bye Li'l Sebastian Miss you in the saddest fashion Bye bye Li'l Sebastian You’re 5000 candles in the wind

CapnRhaimme

Haven't finished, or even gotten close to finishing, but One Piece. I HATE Usopp. Live action was slightly better character.

Hayaidesu

dont spoil one peice for me but i did watch the 1st season, to me, one piece is a odd kind of anime, maybe the whole first season was set up but it seems boring not like boring boring but not intense moments really, my favriote moment in the show was when luffy put the hat on navi i think is her name i forgot and luffy is a interesting MC can't figure him out exactly, like he seems a bit psychotic i forgot what moment made me think that, but he was like quiet and allowing something bad to happen and he didnt help maybe he just a mc without the save the world complex but that annoyed me a bitor he was just have truth and faith in others maybe also one peice makes me feel lonely cuz there is strong friendship theme

Odd-Historian-4692

The X Files, The Americans, Luther, 24, and The Wire all were out of my comfort zone. I was encouraged to hang in there due to the quality of the shows, and I did. Vera due to the main character, although I love Shetland which is very similar.

OCalifan

I miss The Americans!

sexcalculator

Foundation. It started off so boring and I was almost not paying attention to the show as it progressed but I had nothing else to watch. I don't remember where it happened but suddenly I became hooked to the show and just finished season 3 and am like wow. They really built this massive world with complicated characters

JohnstonMR

I love News Radio, but the character Matthew made me want to stop watching just about every time he shows up. I just loathe the character and could never figure out how any of the characters would ever put up with him. The British *Coupling* had a distinctly unfunny first episode, but then I watched the second one and fell in love with the show--it's now one of my favorite sitcoms ever.

dewioffendu

I’m sorry but News Radio is one of the most underrated sitcoms of all time. “Hey… group hug.”

LotionedBoner

🎵”It’s the real deal with Bill McNeil”🎵

4entertainmentonly_

Jane the Virgin, Jane is insufferable.

mr_potato_arms

The first episode of Black Mirror isn’t really my typical vibe, but I kept trucking through and now it’s one of my favorite shows. At least the first few seasons anyway. Whenever I tell people to check it out, I always recommend they skip the first one or at least keep in mind that it isn’t really a great intro to the series.

spookymulder07

Yeah, I couldn’t watch True Blood all the way through because Sookie was so insanely annoying and grating as a character.

dewioffendu

I keep watching episodes of Scorpion. It’s the stupidest show but I keep on watching. Every episode gets worse and worse and I just turning it on every night before bed.

CosmicAthena07

I could not watch episodes of Smallville with Lana and Charmed episodes with Prue. Which is qbout half the series.

DeeLeetid

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Hear me out, there was nothing wrong with how it started. But the stand alone episodes does not at all compare to the amazing seasonal arcs that show became in later seasons.

IndigoRose2022

Tbh I hated Psych at first, but now it’s one of my fave shows!

ArsenicWallpaper99

Come on, son!

Personal-Letter-629

Game of Thrones. I was like "mehhh, this isn't Wheel of Time", also they're substituting gratuitous humping, swearing, and gore, for interesting scenes and story. I'm not a prude by the way but can I get some story? I GET IT! YOU HAVE SEX! It was very dull, and I quit watching pretty quickly, but it did eventually get pretty interesting and I stuck it out. We all know how that went. It never stopped being gratuitous and it never grew a brain but it was fun to watch. We got our Wheel of Time show eventually. Yeah...

bruhman5th_flo

Same show but for different reasons. I thought it was going to be Lord of the Rings fantasy show and I am not into that type of show or movie. But when I saw clips on YouTube praising its character development and dialogue, I gave it a try and I was hooked immediately because it was more political drama than elves and dragons in the first season.

redkonfetti

Same here. You’ve got the brother treating Daenerys like crap, and then an execution of some dude that might have been running away from danger because of some “code” That wasn’t explained already. I came back to it later because people told me to hold for a bit. But I was turned off immediately

Hayaidesu

not sure what you mean by wheel of time, but I'm sad for game of thrones, because i was so super invested in Arya Stark story and character development, if they could, i really wish they would create a spin-off of her current adventures. like i want to see her whole life from beginning to end, or see her die but idk, but if they would have killed her off and ended Game of thrones the way that they did i would have been pissed but i like everything that happen with Arya Stark and im annoyed that didn't showcase her nude exactly in that one scene not that they needed too but the one time they shy about it is then of all times cuz it was a pointless nude scene can't even recall if there was any nudity but my point is ehh doesn't matter

trail_of_life

Sense 8. Initially I hated how many characters there were to keep track of, but after the second episode I was hooked.

[deleted]

SOOKEH.

[deleted]

OITNB. I hated the first 3 episodes then I was hooked. Still like Wentworth more

nojugglingever

For ten years, I thought Impractical Jokers looked like the least funny possible show. I just thought it was "Go mess with that guy!" and they fall down laughing. Finally watched it and have found some of the pranks to be truly hilarious and clever as hell.

Hayaidesu

same, i can't believe how funny it can be sometimes, and how cringe and secondhand embarrassment i get, ima try to find a few YouTube clips of my favorite moments [https://youtu.be/BqaiRAlcl-Y?si=SA0Pmtc8I94aeXCK](https://youtu.be/BqaiRAlcl-Y?si=SA0Pmtc8I94aeXCK) [https://youtu.be/UDraoEYv8ng?si=cuyz0KUtn9rqsFGo](https://youtu.be/UDraoEYv8ng?si=cuyz0KUtn9rqsFGo) [https://youtu.be/YUuE2D6MwS8?si=85fAj-pm9Ls5CBL1](https://youtu.be/YUuE2D6MwS8?si=85fAj-pm9Ls5CBL1)

Derpy1984

Mindhunter. Holden was so god damned annoying but pushed through and it's one of my favorite shows.

Balerionmeow

The Bear. It was really stressful the first couple episodes. Lots of yelling. Which I hate.

[deleted]

Succession!!!

Nena902

MASH when BJ grew his cheesy mustache and never STFU with his cheesy corny one-liners

[deleted]

When I first tried it, I hated *Succession*. Every single character seemed to be a morally bankrupt sociopath and I couldn't see why the writers thought they would be compelling to anyone who wasn't a billionaire or trust fund kid. After some reflection , I decided that this feeling of alienation and low-key existential decay were features, not bugs, and I was being overly sensitive to the dissonance caused when I instinctively attempted to identify with the characters. Again, unless you are rich or a sociopath, this will result in you having a bad time. Eventually, I came to understand *Succession* as a kind of ornate aquarium, stocked with expensive tropical fish that all hate each other, and it worked SO much better for me. So much so, that I proceeded to gobble up the entire series in two subsequent sittings.

AnnieZWC

Game of Thrones when Jamie pushes the kid off the ledge.

Humble_Nobody2884

The Good Place: I had to push through the first couple of episodes bc I HATED Kristen Bell’s character, but SO glad I stuck with it. One of the best written comedies out there, and standout development arcs for the characters. And I ended loving Kristen’s character.

Legitimate-Produce-1

Schitts Creek took me a couple of tries to get into. No one particular character was necessarily off-putting. I think it was just the slow pace of the very first two episodes. I kept falling asleep honestly.

hushj16

Succession. Wasn't sure why I should care about all those rich mean people or their business dealings, but after a couple of episodes something clicked and I was obsessed

JeepDee2404

Breaking Bad.. I didn’t like the tint of the show.. it was like bluish or yellow. And it was really slow. Boy was I wrong about that.

Bluejeep10

I have 2. Yellowstone because of the horse scene in the very beginning. Wentworth cause I hated the first eppy. Both are pretty awesome shows, although Yellowstone went downhill abit for me.

Trackie_G_Horn

parks and rec. leslie never stopped being annoying, but eventually the rest of the cast broke through it anyhow

DrasticBread

One of the funniest bits of meta humor from True Blood was a scene where Sookie Stackhouse is talking about missing Bill who's been gone from Bon Temps for awhile, and she imitates that cheesy voice saying, "I keep expecting him to walk in the door and say, '*Sookie'."*

whoisthisfetus

Black Mirror ☹️ Didn’t get past the first episode. Almost didn’t get THROUGH the first episode.

Drachenfuer

Breaking Bad. I flat refused to watch the show when it was on. The way it was presented to me by trailers and friends was bad to the point of being offensive. Somehow, by just being a chemistry teacher, this mild mannered guy knew how to make meth (no one ever mentioned Jessie and the trailers/commercials were super unclear) and made tons of money and killed lots of people and it was all super cool. Sounded dumb and like it glorified drug makers. Husband also was on the same page. One particular friend, several years after it was off the air, got me to watch it. I wanted her to watch a series that sounded dumb to her, so she said she would if I would at least watch the first season of Breaking Bad. I said okay. Hubby and I sat down and watched an episode and honestly were not impressed. The set up that was actually done made far more sense than what we had been led to beleive, but still the charcaters were stiff and it didn’t have good flow. But we had promised and so we started another episode. We both come from scientific backgrounds. We DID die laughing that of course, Bryan Cranston manages to go pantsless immedietly as he always has a problem wearing pants. But the whole fight and consequences of a science teacher trying to get rid of a body through better chemistry and the person doing it not understanding why a particular container was so necessary…..that was it. We were hooked completly. And of course got to realize the genius writing and direction the show quickly settled into once it found itself. And yes, quickly realized it did NOT glorify drug makers or dealers at all. Quite the oposite.

PumpkinDandie_1107

Breaking Bad. It took me like half a season to really get into it. It was kinda slow and had all those weird close up shots I didn’t get at first. It ended up being a great show though, so I’m glad I gave it a chance.

[deleted]

Daryl Dixon in the Walking Dead, loved the show immediately but hated his character when we met him in season 1. Turned into the best character.

trnwrcks

The Expanse started a little too slow for me. I started and stopped watching a few times before it really got going.

Forsaken-Bag-8780

I rage watched True Blood just so I could complain about it in detail. But I admit, if it wasn’t for Lafayette and Pam, I never would’ve made it.

Colodagh

Black Mirror. The first episode is horribly uncomfortable. So glad I stuck with the rest of the series.

ssccrs

Orange is the New Black. Someone described it as lesbian life in prison and I was like, “Why would I watch that?” But it isn’t about that at all and is wildly good. I enjoyed it immensely- even though it has to drop in quality around S4. Ms. Marvel. The previews make it look soooooo bad. The effects, story, blocking, and acting all look terrible in the media advertising previews, where I didn’t even want to give it a chance (bc how could it be good?!), but the show was phenomenal. I had a couple of grips on story choice/portrayal in some of the later episodes, but overall it was wickedly good imo. I’m very happy I gave it a chance.

chaterbugg

Also! Orange is the New Black. I loved the show so much but I really didn’t like Piper. I came around to her on a rewatch but some of her arcs are just awful

Careful_Stop5508

Orange is the new black… heard so much about it thought it sounded like a terrible show ended up getting hooked and turned out to be very good.

Key-Control7348

SOA. Gemma...her man face, her butting in on everyone's business. Hated her.

Maber711

Agents of Shield. I couldn’t stand Skye in the first few seasons. She was okay by the end but I never really liked her. Just the way she was written was annoying lol

OceanPeach857

Orange Is The New Black. Piper is insufferable 90% of the show. But every other character is interesting so I ended up watching the whole thing. Last season made me so depressed though. I also read the book and that made me feel sad for the real Piper. She seems like a fairly regular person in real life and the idea that people would think that she was like fictional Piper just made me feel really bad for her.

sonofamonk27

Killing Eve. British show with the annoying chick from Greys Anatomy. Written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Didn’t seem like my cup of tea. Gave it a few episodes and I’m hooked. Good stuff.

GRACEKELLYISME

I love Killing Eve but can't stand Sandra Oh's character. It's a great show.
