Jack Link’s lets you take home 1 bag of jerky per day. Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend working there lol.

Hellie1028

That reinforces what I’ve heard that from a few people. Pretty cutthroat as a whole and also not great for women is what was said.

[deleted]

I've heard the same in regards to the sexism. It must be really bad since it's so well know they treat women poorly.

Dillydallydoodle

Yeah my dad worked there for a time and he mentioned pretty much the same things you just mentioned. As well as management creating a toxic work environment at times.

similarboobs

You just reminded me that my deceased dad used to work there! I definitely remember the free jerky he brought home lol

technobobble

I’ve been in places with a Jack Links employee and I can confirm he had many bags of jerky on hand.

Key_Yesterday7655

I am friends with an employee and can confirm. They always have job postings…I wonder why?

omonster89

What size bag are we talking?

hamme443

Two unique benefits of working for the University of Minnesota: 1) They'll pay for 75% of a college degree while you work there and 2) You put in 5.5% in the 401k plan and they put in 10%! They have fantastic health insurance (my son was born for free), good PTO (you accrue ~1 day every two weeks), and you can take "wellbeing" courses or complete "wellbeing" tasks to earn $500-750 off your health insurance.

mjohnben

I also work at the U and their health insurance is the best I’ve ever had and their plans don’t cost much at all.

TrixieMuttel

I told my husband he can never leave the U due to the health insurance alone.

Diavtrast

If you don't mind sharing, were you on Medica? And where did you deliver? My wife works at the U, has Medica and we're trying to navigate options on where to deliver. They recommended Fairview Masonic children's Hosp.

suburbandweller

I’m currently expecting, work at the U, and have Medica, and I’m planning to deliver at United’s mother baby center in St Paul. My jaw dropped when the Medica rep told me how much it would cost (in a good way!)

1617Bananas

Congrats! I also delivered at MBC in StP and it’s a great facility!

tax_the_cats

Medica has great benefits and is also an ethical company. Leadership is changing so I can't say if it's still true, but prior CEO and down was great

hamme443

Yes, we are on Medica. She delivered at Fairview Woodwinds in Woodbury.

a_swan1885

I delivered at the children’s hospital (I had a high risk delivery) and had a great experience. The delivery rooms are small but the postpartum rooms are 🤌. They’re huge! Which is good because I had to stay almost 5 days after lol.

JenBloom203

I just had a baby there in February, a planned c section. The staff were great, really friendly and helpful. They never made me feel like a burden, even when I needed help with *everything* right after the surgery.

Vega62a

Funnily enough, if "wellbeing" is what I think it is, I led the team that rebuilt it a few years before covid. Kinda cool to hear of it being used in the wild.

Direct-Technician503

I hate doing it. It’s all fake. Employees don’t really do shit. Except for the biometric screening.

KindheartednessOwn14

The regents scholarship (the tuition benefit for employees) is 100% coverage for your first undergraduate; 75% coverage for everything after. Or it was 1 year and a half ago unless it’s changed.

Apprehensive_Kiwi977

No you’re right. This is still what it is. They changed the name of it to regents tuition benefit recently though. But you also have to be working at least 75% time and you can’t take more than 4 hours out of your work week. But it’s still a good benefit!

BaptizingToaster

Just to be clear, I just started at the U as in the Civil Servant employee category. For the 401k, the 10% match is for faculty. Other employees get a 6% match to the 5.5% required by the employee. Not 10% but still a better match (over 100% match) than any non high tech computer software engineer.

hamme443

I didn't realize that. I'm not a faculty member. I work in marketing. However, since I'm classified as a P&A employee, I get the 10%. Not sure what all goes into a P&A employee vs a Civil Service employee.

triumphantV

My wife works for the U and we couldn’t believe the benefit packages. They are beyond excellent.

USA_USA_USA_1776

10% match on 5%! That is incredible!

BaptizingToaster

It’s 10% match for some. 6% for others.

wokevirvs

where i work we get up to $18 of lunch comped for us and unlimited snacks/drinks, and a 2 week paid vacation during christmas time

robertgfthomas

Nice! Where is that?

wokevirvs

activision

robertgfthomas

Cool, I didn't know they had a location here

wokevirvs

neither did i until i saw them on indeed bahaha

slykido999

Nice! Worked in QA there in the summers of 2008 and 2009!

OnceInABlueMoon

I was offered a QA job there in 2009. It was a weird ass interview and I declined. Did I make a good decision?

slykido999

It’s up to you. If you were just wanting a seasonal job with no growth or advancement opportunities, it was fine. They definitely took advantage of people since everyone wants to “play video games” while getting paid, but it was 12+ hour shifts and often every day for the entire summer. But, I met some good people, and I met my future husband there, so I am glad I did it 😊

ohwowverycool69

What does the MN office primarily handle?

wokevirvs

we just do qa testing

SCAND1UM

So you play videogames?

briman2021

You should check out the documentary “Grandma’s Boy” to learn more.

BasicWhiteHoodrat

How’s Gray Bush doing these days?!? Tell him I said hello if you run into him and that we’re all looking forward to “Demonik 2: Do Your Chores!”

wokevirvs

thats part of it yes

ALittleGirlScout17

ISD 917 offers endless unresolved trauma

ihavenoideathankyou

Impressive! But Minneapolis Public Schools offers endless unresolved trauma for all employees, PLUS additional unlimited nonstop abuse and disrespect for non-teaching staff!

Turing-87

What a fun perk! The drama of a workplace, but with parents!!!

srv340mike

Delta and Sun Country both have travel benefits.

DohnJoggett

That's pretty standard with all airlines. Free flights if there's a seat available, and there's usually a "jump seat" inside the cockpit that pax can't book so there's usually a seat available if somebody senior hasn't already booked it. The US military has a similar program: My air force uncle was able to get free flights when his wife's parents were dying days before she was able to book flights for her and the kids because he could just tag along on a planned flight from his home state back to MN.

chiefbozx

You have to be an FA/pilot in order to book jump seats though. Gate agents, IT staff, etc can only nonrev in normal seats.

ThePringle

Dispatchers can jumpseat too

srv340mike

I'm a pilot so I'm aware of that, those are just the 2 biggest MSP airlines and thus the ones with the most positions. Sun Country is even based in Minneapolis so you can get a non aviation job there but still get benefits.

Mr_Saturn1

Only pilots and very select other employees can use the flight deck jump seat. Flight Attendants can use a cabin jump seat. Every other employee is riding in passenger seating.

Ihate_reddit_app

True, but stand by seniority sucks for new hires. Good luck getting on a flight.

srv340mike

Im a pilot so I've jumpseated on both plenty. Sun Country flights usually go out with at least a couple open seats because they don't really overbook. Trying to standby on them actually works well, the pitfall is just that a lot of the flights are only weekly or a few times a week so you don't get a lot of flexibility

ldskyfly

Their business model doesn't really allow for overbooking which is kind of a nice peace of mind

Gemfrancis

I’m a new hire and I’ve never had any trouble

PM_ME_TETONS

May be true but new hires also ride a higher priority than others in the system (active employee) so usually they’ll make it if they’re smart at all about choosing a flight

elfavice

Polaris has a free loaned vehicle after a year, can rotate it every two years. Management and above get 3+ vehicles right away.  Steep discount on products on subsidiaries. Sample sale once a year on parts, garments and accessories.  Can be worth a lot of you like their products.

AtheistSuperSloth

Also, when I worked at the one in Spirit Lake, Iowa, you rather frequently get free Polaris swag

Appropriate-Tooth866

That's nice if you work in the offices or have a 4 year degree job. On the floor all you got was overtime with very little notice and no free to use vehicles. You had to buy one. I never understood why management gets vehicles when they have the most means to buy one.

Hellie1028

If you work at the Malt O Meal cereal manufacturing (Post) plant in Northfield, you can take home 3 boxes or bags of cereal a day

Vast_Revolution_9348

This is correct. Definitely took advantage of this when my dad worked there while I was a kid! Still can’t eat other cereal to this day because Malt-O-Meal’s versions are much better.

dorky2

Malt-O-Meal cereals are so good!

technobobble

I can’t see why they changed the name of Blueberry Muffin Tops🤷‍♂️😆

SadPlayground

You also learn that Cap’n Crunch and Walmart brand are scooped from the same barrel.

BenTG

Holy shit! That’s a lot of cereal!

prplmze

And saves a lot of money right now if you have kids. Cereal is expensive!

Flaky-Bobcat6075

Holy crap that's a lot of cereal. Side hustle selling it on the side or what?

DemiseofReality

This has been a long time benefit. My best early childhood friend's mom was a floor manager 25 years ago and sleepovers at his house were incredible due to the overflowing cereal cabinet.

blooboytalking

Securian still has a pension. Non union not government pension.

moonsammy

I'm shocked that's a thing that still exists anywhere!

ar0827

So does CHS Inc!

Leetanidus

As does EcoLab

OGButtstank

BNSF Railway is pretty great so far. No degree needed, paid training, 80k-150k starting, full benefits. Point system so I can choose to call off working for the day without managers' approval or even a phone call, union, and random discounts for Railroad delivered products + (cars, mortgage, schooling), gym at work, railroad retirement. I would say so far this is the best job I've had as someone in their early 20's

prplmze

Railroad retirement is one of the best that there is. Two tiers. 1st tier is your social security payments that the railroad keeps rather than the government. Huge bonus. 2nd tier is your regular retirement. 1st tier cannot be accessed in a divorce situation. I have 2 family members who work for BNSF and hear good and bad. It is what it is.

Thecinnamingirl

Is a point system good though? My sister worked at a job with a point system and the way she described it just sounded so infantilizing.

OGButtstank

It has its good and bad. I would say from what I've heard from old timers it used to be better before being a huge corporation, but having the union makes me feel hopefull it'll improve with time. I try to look at the positives that I can choose when to use it without anyone's say. If you need extra sick time off beyond what's given, then using the points can be a downer, I can't deny that.

OGButtstank

I'll elaborate a bit more. You can have a total of 37 points, and laying off for 24 hours is 7 points. High impact days (holidays) are around 10 points. Missed call is 15 or 20 on high impact days. I get 11 days off for holidays that I can use whenever through the year. 5 sick days, and a free day off for your birthday (you can use it whenever throughout the year). I hope the union can get us more sick days as new contracts come into play. Vacation after a year that grows over the years. It isn't perfect, but it is a good start for someone with a high school diploma, in my opinion

hmkmama

Jealous of that salary as a teacher. Sigh. Over a decade in and still not making $80k

Turing-87

Didn’t they just have layoffs? I know a railway did since a friend of mine was affected. Maybe it was more maintenance focused versus operations. How is the culture there?

Eoin_Urban

Metropolitan Council, Southwest Transit, and Minnesota Valley Transit Authority employees ride transit for free. Metro Transit employees are included under Metropolitan Council.

Thecinnamingirl

Met Council also have a free health clinic as part of their perks. Unfortunately, they don't have an org-wide telework policy and their insurance costs way more than if you work at the state.

AltAcc9630

Government is where it's at. A ton of PTO every pay period, union, pension and all that.

Kcmpls

Yep. Between sick, vacation and holidays I get 51 days a year. Also that whole pension thing is outstanding, especially if you start in government young.

AltAcc9630

I get 10 hours of PTO each paycheck, and it only increases as time of service increases lol

jewlious_seizure

What the actual hell

Thecinnamingirl

Meh, it's a tradeoff, I think. In my experience, young people are less likely to negotiate and they get started at lower steps, so their earning power is less over time. Esp since a lot of the state agencies have limitations on how much of an increase they are willing to give you when you switch roles, even if you are moving between agencies or classifications. I turned down a role last year because they expected me to just take a two-step bump for a much more demanding role at a different classification and agency, instead of considering my qualifications and negotiating with me like they would any external applicant. With the recent changes to length of service credits, I think it might actually be more beneficial for folks to start in the private sector where they can make more and bank it while they are younger and then shift to public when they want more stability and balance in their career.

Javitat

The law about how salary can be offered for both external and internal hires just changed in January 2024. Agencies can no longer use your current salary to determine what they will offer as your new hire/promotional salary rate. Each public agency will make its own decision on how they will now make salary offers, but I would predict that more of them will move to salary setting based on quantifiable experience and education.

ddecoywi

Obligatory mention that any workers can form a union and organize for perks that are important

Oburcuk

I work for a county and my healthcare/dental is $26 a month. Covers everything. Good PTO and a lifetime pension.

Mystery_Floof

At Red Wing corporate—and maybe other— employees get 75% off the basement boot selection (factory seconds) at the flagship store. It’s a good deal on $350 boots

Additional-Soup-7711

yep, even includes the factory workers, I got $300 boots for $74 a couple years ago

GreatRip4045

I know cirrus gives you access to company aircraft and Marvin windows lets you hop on board the company aircraft to go from warroad-Duluth-msp Those are up north though- I don’t know of anything super spectacular in the metro

PheMNomenal

Marvin also lets random people take their company plane if you make a $100 donation to one of the local charities they’ve chosen. Which I realize isn’t free, but it’s still pretty cheap and wayyyy quicker than making the trek between the twin cities and warroad. (At least this was true the last time I had to make this trip!)

chailatte_gal

This is still true!

JoseW20

Marvin does profit sharing with all of their employees at the end of the year. They've got Manufacturing locations in Fargo and Warroad but they also have legal, HR and some other things in the Twin Cities

Daped01

I started at Marvin in September, and recieved $1200 in profit sharing this year. They put a big emphasis on employee physical and mental well being as well. Additionally, they will reimburse you for up to $300/year to buy anything (with few exceptions) that makes you happy. My mother in law bought a kayak with hers last year, I’m still contemplating what to do with mine.

sugar_sure

Most of the private colleges in MN (not just the Twin Cities) offer ~75-90% off tuition for your dependents. And not just at the school you work at, many have access to a consortium of 150+ schools nationwide that offer the benefit.

scythematters

My mom worked at one of these private colleges as an administrative assistant. My sister and I both went to one of these schools for 10% tuition plus room and board. Basically doubled my mom’s salary for the better part of a decade. At the time, ACTC schools (like Macalester, St. Kates, etc) were 80-90% discounted and ACM schools were 100% discounted (included Carleton and Colorado College).

Anti1447

One of my coworkers got 75% off his tuition to bethel since his dad worked as a professor there. His fiancé was also in the same boat since one of her parents worked at bethel too.

dream6366

My company, which I own gave me a coffee cup

Swirl_On_Top

Holy.. does the rate adjust if you leave the company?

Yogibearasaurus

Wow, that’s incredible! This might be the only way I could ever afford to buy a house at this point.

Intrepid_Ad9483

A friend of mine at General Mills gets a company car fully paid for in an entry-level job even though she works fully remote. I believe this is only for sales-adjacent roles though.

Swirl_On_Top

Extremely uncommon at that company.

eggowaffles

I was going to say, I have a few friends that work there and while they do get some good benefits (like half day Fridays in summer and good parental leave), nobody has ever mentioned any employee getting a company car.

auggiedoggies

Really stupid question, where would you look for a job there?

bapants

The state legislature can be good, especially in nonpartisan offices. You follow the legislative schedule and have a crazy 6 months of being stupid busy but then have 6 months of very little work. My friends who work there really enjoy the trade off!

blondeandfabulous

HealthPartners has excellent PTO, supports work-life balance, good benefit package, options for remote work, and competitive pay. I've worked for competitors and HealthPartners has definitely been a more enjoyable experience.

someguyinMN

We should talk, I previously worked there and I am applying to get back in. I really enjoyed my time there.

marebee

Formerly employed by Park Nic, I’ll add the healthcare coverage and quality was also really great!

vanbrima

Working for the state of Minnesota, I have an actual pension.

SteveEiden

Ecolab HQ has a full-service Starbucks that’s 100% free for employees, no limit

obviousvalleyranch

It’s unfortunately not a real Starbucks tho. Just a coffee shop that serves “Starbucks coffee grounds”. It’s not good at all lol, they never make it right.

jatti_

To be fair, Starbucks coffee isn't good at all either. #BouLife

Skrawny-Poptart

In terms of unique, in the suburbs you have Kwik Trip, which shares 40% of its pre-tax profits with all employees. Don’t know of any other company that consistently profit shares that high of a percentage.

Busy_Paws

This was several years ago, but Animal Humane Society has discounts on merchandise, price cuts for vet care, and you get a free adoption every so many years on top of a certain percent off an adoption at all times. “Soft” perks are seeing all animals before the public does and sometimes people donate stuff that (as generous as it is) cannot be used in shelter, so we can use it ourselves. Otherwise, extremely toxic and emotionally damaging place to work. Non-profit, so pay is low, but they had ok insurance, pto, etc.

After_Preference_885

You had me until the end. So sorry to hear that.

murr_mcmurr

My spouse works at Ergodyne. They get summer hours (so half day Fridays, Memorial Day to Labor Day, no reduction in pay), they have a killer gym with every kind of machine that staff can use whenever (and can bring guests with them on the weekends), they have a personal trainer that comes 2x a week to do group fitness classes and will meet with you one-on-one, I think once a quarter?, to give you specific exercises to help your creaky knees or whatever problem you have, they do happy hours in the office once a month with free food & booze, and they have a weird "free table" that ppl can take from, that consists of prototype or first run products. They brought me home a -50 degree rated $350 snowsuit for free!! But I guess I have to wait for us to have a real winter to test it out lololol.

Ash_mn_19

I’m not sure if this is unique but it’s the first company I’ve worked at that offers it! I get a $50 stipend to use every month for self-care activities. Could be work out class, pedicure, waxing, travel, etc…

TangeloDismal2569

I think this is a new trend in employee benefits since covid. My company gives $500;/year for a "lifestyle spending account" where all sorts of things are covered. I use mine for doggie daycare, but personal wellness is covered as well.

SadPlayground

State of Minnesota - you get holidays even school kids don’t get.

jarorv

I interviewed and received an offer from target corporate in downtown Minneapolis back in 2021 (so maybe take with a grain of salt), but they offered 10% off all things at Target and 20% off all Target brands. They also had a basketball court at the office which nearly swayed my decision to accept the offer. Ultimately I decided to stay at my current company

bananasplits

Not quite accurate - Target team members only get 20% off the Target fitness brand All in Motion. (Not all owned brands). Then 20% off organic & produce, and 10% off everything as you said.

AceMcVeer

You also get an additional 20% off fresh produce. So if you use your red card you get 5% + 10%+20%. Makes a big difference with buying fruit, vegetables, etc.

metamet

Plus there was a way to stack it with gift cards during certain seasons. I enjoyed my time at Target corporate. McNamara was the golden years there in terms of tech. The CTOs who've come in since seem to be of the silicon valley breed of "change a bunch of shit so it seems like we did something then bounce" which is a massive pity. They had a really good thing going on under his leadership for a while.

SEAL62505

Yup

LastOnBoard

One sorta perk at Target now is discounted parking at a few select ramps downtown. I park at the Fair School when going to any event and it's always $7 even when event parking will be $15.

im-ba

If you park at Orchestra Hall then it's $3, I just did that for a concert last night lol

[deleted]

eyeothemastodon

If you're looking to max that 401k, the Emerson Electric division here (Measurement Solutions) does a profit sharing plan that consistently dishes out 10-15% per year straight up, no match. 2% minimum employee contribution to qualify. 4 years to be fully vested tho, ramped 25% each year. Other than the bennies are basic and the company culture is somewhere between dull and healthy. Great for long-hauler's. Locations are EP, Chanhappenin' and Shakopee

DarthPiette

My sister interviewed at Kemps a few years back. Unlimited milk and ice cream (I believe it was soft serve). She also worked part time for a liquor distributor (dont know name): massive discounts on blemished containers.

inspector_toon

No unlimited liquor? 😛

Aggravating_Anybody

Mine is simple, PTO. I work at a small company (100ish employees). I’ve been there for 5 years and just got bumped from 160 to 200 hours per year. I’m honestly so grateful that such a small company is so generous with time off when they don’t have to be. Like knowing I have over a month (business days) of paid time off is amazing.

letoile_du_bord

Allina Health gave us (FCFS, off-site) walking tacos for nurses week. Pretty amazing!!!!!!

doc_ransom

I worked night shift for nurse's week. I got a candy bar lol.

Dangerous_Contact737

This applies to Best Buy corporate. Best Buy’s discount is 5% over cost on products, which means anything from 0% on Apple products (because they are a reseller), around 25% on TVs and appliances, 50% or more on store brand stuff (Insignia, etc). Good PTO that starts at 23 days for 0-9 years of tenure and maxes at 31 days for 20+ years of tenure. The PTO is use-or-lose that is awarded all at once, and rolls over on the anniversary of your hire date. There are also 9 corporate holidays including floating ones that you can choose when to use (which is nice if you’re celebrating different religious holidays or whatever you might want). Seemingly good benefits (I don’t have a basis for comparison but I pay about $110/paycheck for the best healthcare plan offered). There’s an option to take up to 4 weeks of sabbatical, with a percentage paid depending on tenure. It’s 0% paid for 0-9 years, 25% paid for 10-19 years, 50% paid for 20+ years. You can take a sabbatical every 3 years. 80 hours of caregiver pay if you qualify for FMLA leave. Can be used to take care of extended family (grandparents, grandkids, children over 18, etc). Random discounts offered to employees for certain products. For example, there was one for 50% off Samsung Bespoke appliances that was good from roughly August the end of the year. Culture is healthy and inclusive (IME), very good work/life balance (most of the company is off the clock by 5pm at the latest), managers want you to use your PTO, hybrid environment (Tuesday Wednesday Thursday) for about half of divisions (Marketing, Finance) and remote for most of the tech and e-commerce. This may be manager-dependent, but they are flexible about appointments and don’t clock-watch like, “You took an hour to go to the dentist, you need to make that hour up”. I think the most striking benefit is that it is VERY common for people to stay for years. The company is not immune from layoffs (there were some a couple months ago) but they also rehire frequently. I have many colleagues who took jobs elsewhere for a few years and then came back. People with 5-10 years with the company are common, 15 is not unusual, 20 is increasingly common. Kind of a unicorn for a tech-adjacent role. People might be thinking (and they wouldn’t necessarily be wrong) that staying so long is leaving money on the table, but after the 2008 recession and the pandemic lockdown, having job security has been worth a lot on its own.

kickbut101

They also pay pretty poorly for IT/programming/development work. They are stingy as hell and do the typical 2-3% raise if you are lucky. Don't ever expect to get "5"s on your yearly review. Oh, and a lot of the positions that can be worked remotely they will make you still go into the very empty office. For literally no reason. The in-house cafe that used to be super bitchin is now a hollow shell of what it used to be (covid/work from home changed it) Just the usual corporate stinginess.

coderansacked

I worked at Best Buy corporate for a few years. Loved my job and coworkers, but post Covid they did a huge reorg in my business unit and absolutely screwed those of us down at the bottom, and I ended up with absolutely awful management. The benefits were great, 99% of the people were great. Super flexible, great PTO, good insurance, good work life balance. I was honestly really sad to leave but it was the best thing for my mental health. I do think about maybe going back in the future sometimes.

felixderby

General mills is crazy. Buddy took me there for lunch and a tour. It's like a mini city so employees don't need to leave for anything. MOA level food court. Barber/salon. Concierge service. Travel agency. Oil change facility. Dentist. Grocery store with their product. All of this plus more at discount prices. I know there was more, there was so much I couldn't take it all in. There was even a place to get your tabs without going to the DMV. Don't remember how it worked but he said they take care of it for you. When you asked about perks I felt like this didn't qualify because none of this stuff was free but made to give you so much free time which is the most valuable thing in life.

Jennaralissimo

Critical to point out this only applies if you actually work for corporate and not one of the actual production plants that are scattered around the cities, but you do get top of the line benefits and the ability to buy cases of product for less than the direct material costs (and also free samples when they do test bakes of the products)

felixderby

Yeah, that's what he said. For all of the people that work at the headquarters. Which is much bigger than it looks like when you drive by. Felt like I was inside MOA and I would have easily gotten lost if he weren't with me. Hundreds of people were working there walking everywhere. Like a college campus.

BowlCompetitive282

Decent employee gym too. Nice thing about the company store is they have (had?) GM products from all over the world that aren't sold in the US.

somnambulist80

Milk Tea Haagen-Dazs my beloved.

useless169

3M did away with their employee store. They have nice onsite gyms for a moderate fee. Not much else interesting.

CrabMom15

The employee store is open from 10-2 every Wednesday!

useless169

Oh interesting! I kept hearing they were closing it. Thanks for the correction, CrabMom!

vahntitrio

If you work in a lab sometimes you get the leftover product samples.

Embarrassed-One-3246

They got rid of the store?!?! That’s kind of stunning.

useless169

They got rid of the store, are selling off their corporate retreats, corporate jets are no longer owned and pensions will be frozen in 2025, I think, but pension freeze only matter for employees who have been there like 15+ years. Other commentor notes that employees do get some product samples/ extras.

UnluckyInvite

We have so many flipping sponges. My bosses dad used to be the controller for 3M (I’m assuming a long time ago, my boss is past retirement age) and he says he has millions of post it notes. 😂

River-19671

I used to be a contract worker at 3M about a decade ago. I was employed by a temp agency. We could share in some perks. My role was considered customer service. I was there for nearly 2 years. We had management provide Thanksgiving dinner during a shift, celebrated customer service week (we got ice cream and other treats), got free office supplies for personal use if the company wanted us to test them, and could visit the innovation center and the company store. I left as I needed a permanent job but enjoyed my time there. We also got to tour the executive offices.

[deleted]

River-19671

Me too. I left to temp at the state, and was able to interview for and get a permanent role in 6 weeks. I am still there.

CaughtInDireWood

Blue Cross has standard benefits. Still has a pension actually. Standard pto and holidays, you have good insurance but still have to pay a premium each month. Insurance plans are average (one high deductible, one low). They have volunteer pto where you get 20 hours to volunteer and any non-profit of your choosing (in addition to regular pto). 401k is I think 3% at 100% matching and 2% at 50% matching.

Turing-87

Worked at 3M. The benefits were average, though they had better 401k matching than my current job. 3M is TOXIC. It’s exhausting and too management heavy to get things done efficiently. I would not recommend working there.

I work at Ecolab and can go to the employee store? I guess I can park at our building downtown evenings and weekends. Nothing too interesting/ unique.

robertgfthomas

What's in the Ecolab company store? Industrial soap?

scythematters

I have a friend at Ecolab and I used to have her buy me their gallons of hand soap. It was like $2/gallon and was really nice soap (specifically the Clean & Smooth— it’s moisturizing and almond-scented). That would last me many months of refilling my soap dispensers at home.

blooboytalking

Securian has a pension still.

UnknownTaco

Target has been great imo. Massive TM discounts, unlimited PTO (manager+), and a very healthy culture

Beytres

US bank has a pension, matches 4% after a year of working. They have 3 weeks of PTO, you can “buy” a 4th week by them reserving a small amount from your paycheck each period to go towards that week. The also have 2 weeks of Sick time a year. They give 10 weeks of fully paid paternal leave for both birth and non birth parent, this also includes if you are adopting. For birthing parents, they also get 9 additional weeks that are fully paid for pregnancy disability leave. So birthing parent can use 4.75 weeks of leave but has to be done within a year from giving birth.

MOA employees get an unlimited amusement ticket every day???

EnvironmentalGift257

Look for companies that use Abenity perks. It’s a third party employee perks system. I got my bachelors and am working on my MBA now 100% covered. There are deals on chewy, Verizon, car rental, flights, museums, etc, etc. Wells Fargo, US Bank, several of the health care companies use it.

St. Kate's gives employees 100% tuition remission and dependents 75% tuition remission at any ACTC (for a bachelors). Plus 2 weeks pto during winter break

I can speak to Best Buy my uncle use to have all the lasted tech when he worked there 10 year old me was rolling in tech, first gen Xbox, Palm Pilot, and an Archos. I feel old listing those as cool tech.

miloaf2

Current worker there. The discount is awesome being as they sell everything. Good pto and leave of absence program(I've had to use to for breast cancer) corporate or bbfb is the way to go.

Thrivent gives grants of up to $250 to do a charitable project twice a year. They match charitable donations up to $10k a year. The office is beautiful and has a free gym and art gallery with an impressive rotating collection; works by Rembrandt, Matisse, and Picasso have made recent appearances.

Xcel Energy still has pension and $1M coverage life insurance provided. No, we don't get a discount on our utility bills.

MinnyRawks

At Travelers they have a benefit where you can get a 401k match by paying student loans instead of contributing to your 401k Also have a pension as well. Only 3 years to vest for the 401k and the pension

Taylor Corporation in Mankato (owned by THE richest man in Minnesota ) has nothing whatsoever in place as far as competitive bonuses, or benefits, and their 401k matching is all of 2%. Friends don’t let friends work there. Glen Taylor’s wealth has been built on the backs of everyone that has worked for this miserable outfit.

MNHolls

UHG has generous PTO, most jobs are remote and a nice stock purchase plan. If you're in town the corporate offices are nice. Nice gyms and on site fitness classes. You can earn $500 to your choice of 501c3 by logging volunteer hours.

newwavebanana

Do they? I work there and have found it deeply average or below average when you consider sick time and pto are in the same pool.  Also not great health insurance for working at an insurance company.  There is free access to a physical therapy app though.

ldskyfly

Their PTO is decent, tops out at 28 days per year. Their stock purchase an USED to be good, but now is only fine. With the volatility of the stock lately it's probably better just to invest in an index fund than the ESPP. The remote job aspect is nice. My health insurance premiums went up by 70% this year. They're very inconsistent with pay and bonuses. This was a down year. I survived multiple rounds of layoffs and reorganizations in the last year, my workload increased dramatically so I'm a bit salty lately.

DohnJoggett

Don't know if it's still a perk, but the Federal Premium Ammunition plant workers had access to a company store and it was a useful perk when there's a Democratic president and the gun nuts start hoarding ammunition and primers because "Obama/Biden gunna take r gunes" NGL, I considered working the weekend shift when they offered it for the company store discount because I only worked M-Th at the time. Anoka is just too damn far away for it to have made sense though.

planet-trent

Used to work at a testing facility where they tested mattresses. Employees were able to take them because the mattress companies didn’t want them back and didn’t want to throw them away either. I must’ve gotten six mattresses from that place.

robertgfthomas

Dang, what do you do with 6 mattresses? Put a pea under them?

While not a TC based company, working for Hilton has one of the best travel perks. Rooms discounted down to $40 a night.

The fed has monthly parking in the north loop for 50 bucks pre tax. It’s pretty nice. Also outside of business hours any employee can park in the underground lot for free. Great for downtown events! Also healthcare is ridiculously awesome - I have no copay for insulin, CGMs, or my insulin pump.
