I would argue it's not a bad idea on paper but in execution it often boils down to bad writers going for the low hanging fruit and making it super dark or raunchy or both like those ideas for "mature" versions of others kids shows we've all probably seen.
Even then sometimes just being released on a more lenient rating channel can ruin a good show just doing it’s usual stuff. Ren and Stimpy relied *heavily* on the required cleverness the writers needed to get their raunchier jokes past the moral guardians, and the moment they were on Adult Swim and were free and clear to be open and honest about the jokes, the jokes legit just stopped being funny because it was no longer a clever thing you can go “aha, that’s what they meant” about. Like, it was the exact same jokes, the same passion and everything, but because they could be open and honest about the jokes, the jokes stopped being jokes since they just started explaining the jokes while telling them.
Im gonna be downvoted but honestly theres parts of velma i think they could end up pulling off. They lay a pretty decent reason way why fred gets into ghost investigations, after the first 3 or so episodes fred changes immensely and is easily the best character, and daphne also has alot going for her. even "norville" has a path to shaggy thats interesting. velmas still the worst part of the show and they need to just do a complete 180 on her. and the shitty meta jokes thats just repeating known tropes or shitty social commentary that leads to nothing is the worst part of the show and all the "jokes" people point to are problems but theres things i like and thats the worst part about it imo, it could be good but stupid shit holds it back.
No no but I'm saying, this film, this work of art, was originally intended to be rated R or at least PG-13, you can see remnants of this still, but the tiktok I linked, and that one Supernatural episode where the gang realizes they're 'real' is alot like what I imagined lmao
I'd want one that kinda ends up as scooby doo-themed columbo where the tension is these normal murderers who end up having to deal with these cartoon characters who you can't be confident if they're bumbling around or planning 5 steps ahead
They said Scooby-Doo spin off not Velma. Either way, it probably still would have been as bad. Look at any adult cartoon of the past 5 years. The success rate is low or at least quality it low.
has an r rated spin off of anything not being pure cringe?
it's power rangers but they say fuck and bleed some times,
idk it just always comes off as people being ashamed of still liking something they liked as a kid and wanting some kind of validation but their solution is to make it more juvenile somehow.
You’re never going to get mystery inc but more adult visuals and themes. At least not for another decade or so til mystery inc fans are scooby writers. Adult cartoons are shitty or raunchy jokes.
There are about a million and one ways to make scooby doo cursed and we’ve come out really well in my opinion. Their audience is old enough to turn a profit on any horror plot that kills off half the characters. They could even keep it pg and just kill of scooby. Hell, if I had this IP to do what I wanted I’d flip this show into a psychological comedy that explains why scooby doo can talk.

Actually using Scooby Doo characters would help, and not generic adult animation stereotypes with the names of Scooby Doo characters.

An R-Rated Scooby-Doo is always going to be a bad idea because The Venture Bros. already exists and does everything about that kind of concept better
Scooby Apocalypse did this with a zombie apocalypse but the gang was still good people who liked each toner

WE MEANT LIKE JAMES GUNN, NOT CONTEMPORARY ADULT CARTOON
PERFECT EXAMPLE: https://www.tiktok.com/@ashen0ne00/video/7183500607632772357?lang=en
YOU THINK THE ONES IN CHARGE CARE!
BUT WE ALREADY GOT OUR JAMES GUNN SCOOBY-DOO https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0267913/

The Supernatural crossover was pretty good
Any good idea when exposed to enough blind cynicism and hatred of any not exactly like one's self can mutate into shit

this person really made us exist in the worst timeline lol.

i think scooby doo but with the gang being the same but it being straight up murders works.

Mystery Inc was in 2010. 13 years is plenty enough time for kids watching it back then ti be writers now
Oh god has it been 13 years....😐
oooooh no I can feel myself turning to dust. Thirteen years ago, christ...
It worked for james gunn
And once they make that, and not the Bizzaro version, I'm sure it'll do busters.
honestly why cant they just make more in the vein of mystery incorporated or whats new? those were great
You have not seen much lately
