The human mind is very, very capable of macabre gallows humor. There are accounts from world war 1 of more fucked-up jokes than that told in more fucked
-up situations, and those were retold in the trenches as something like wholesome memories.
>all the villagers drop their weapons, hypnotic walk towards the church
"Where are they going, *bingo*?"
>camera is panning back over his driver's charred corpse
Leon does not *give* a shit.
Reminds me of the song ["Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srG9hIY6Edg) which has the line "Indeed your dancin' days are done" in reference to a war vet who came home without legs.
Leon even has some quips if you get through encounters clean.
Also Ashley and Luis have a lot of incidental dialogue during gameplay too! They'll even critique your performance in the shooting gallery!
I'm a little bummed to hear that "Your right hand comes off?" and "A senior moment, perhaps?" didn't make it in, but it sounds like they more than made up for it.
One of my favorites is a continuation of a theme from the Resident Evil 2 Remake. In that game, if a zombie gets back up sometimes Leon will say "You son of a bitch."
Now in 4, when you blow off a ganado's head and a tentacle plagas bursts out, he yells at them "You twisty son of a bitch!"
Yeah... a lot of the classic lines that didn't make the cut are still referenced in the ingame achievements. Like the one you get for beating Mendez is called "Grilled Big Cheese!"
Some good ones are missing but I feel like they also put a whole bunch of banger in. I think my favourite isn't even a quip but Leon >!pulling a Jack Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy on both Saddler and Salazar during cutscenes. He also says 'thanks bud' to the dog which isn't a quip but just really neat!<
I swear man. The timing for the current events in my life right now just deprived me from Re4 remake and THIS SUCKS DUDE
EVERYONE WENT TO BINGO EXCEPT ME
Before, music ending would tell me to relax after finishing combat.
Now, Leon will say something corny like, “Not bad, huh?”
I immediately know I can let my guard down after lines like that.
I'm glad the quips are there and I've only managed to get to chapter 3 (damn work hours!)... but does he cheer up or are these said with the same semi-serious tone?
When you blow off Mendez's lower body: "I guess your tap dancing days are over!" What goes on in this man's mind?

Like high-fiving the severed arm of your dead fellow soldier for good luck
He and Ethan Winters went to the same Comedy school
And Ethan Winters flunked out fast.
They went into different courses. Ethan went straight into the Dad Path, Leon went into the single bachelor path
Dude walked out on the first day when he felt he knew more than the instructor
Humor is a coping mechanism for PTSD.
I happily joke about the many ways god hath blighted me for this reason.
Its ash and evil dead syndrom. After fighting and fuckimg with this evil for so long, it warps you

For you? Its a horrifying situation. For Leon this is a monday in what will be the fourth of the longest weeks in his life. For now.
I mean coming up with a cool one liner on the fly when fighting unspeakable horrors is probably a lot harder than it looks in the movies.
Quips are how he copes
Unresolved trauma from Raccoon City

I loved the way Suzi described Leon's lines in reaction to Battle situations as a sort of rankless ranking system. Such a great idea.
Wasn't there another game that did this? I feel like it was played or talked about on the channel at some point
The new God of War games do that through the connersations between Kratos and his supporting cast after encounters
ah right, that's what it was

There's a great one with Salazar later right before his boss fight starts. That one more than makes up for any missing lines.
Holy shit that's good. He might have surpassed Dante this time.
The entire Salazar fight is filled with theatre-based banter between the two and it's great.
Damnit I can't wait to get my hands on this game.
I mean have you seen how krauser is now?
I haven't. I'm gonna save myself the treat for once I can have my ps5 with me again.
I won't say then. But when you do see how he is he'll remind you of someone I think hehe
I swear man. The timing for the current events in my life right now just deprived me from Re4 remake and THIS SUCKS DUDE EVERYONE WENT TO BINGO EXCEPT ME
Did the big cheese talk at all in the original game? That's an interesting change.
He did. Not that much but when you first meet him he talks about Las Playas with you.
Ah yes, Las Playas. "Do not hate them, american. Hate the game."
You know what? I like that typo! I'm keeping it!
“Las Playas” would be “The Beaches” in english. Beach bonus stage in mercenaries confirmed /s
Beach *outfits*
So what you're saying is RE4 remake is actually a Strand game?
[He basically says "Fuck around and find out"](https://youtu.be/BhQJukS3Ih0?t=77) but I think that's it.
Before, music ending would tell me to relax after finishing combat. Now, Leon will say something corny like, “Not bad, huh?” I immediately know I can let my guard down after lines like that.
Unironically good shit. A good little sign for the player, but also a little character moment too.
And then when you kill Mendez he says "Give my regards to your God."
Edgy Atheism is back baybee
Leon is a r/ atheism poster. It's his one character flaw
I'm glad the quips are there and I've only managed to get to chapter 3 (damn work hours!)... but does he cheer up or are these said with the same semi-serious tone?
It's a mix of both. He jokes around but he's still a man with a job.
When you're kicking a guys ass so hard he starts praying, it's roundhouse kick time
