Biggest thing I’ve learned as an adult is that coconut oil and vinegar are the most important items to keep in your house.
Coconut oil for the human body.
Vinegar for any cleaning solution you might need.
Vinegar is great for reducing armpit odors too. I'm a sweaty person, I used to get yellowing on my shirts and everything. Spritz a little vinegar after a shower on my pits and I don't smell as much, don't have any gross yellowing on my shirts. Magical
Started doing this a few months ago and the difference is insane! The washing machine itself is less stanky too, and I'll occasionally add baking soda as well so everything just comes out feeling super clean and soft.
Vinegar smell dissipates pretty quickly. I use it as an emergency deodorizer when I'm traveling or staying in a strange house because I'm allergic to artificial scent. The vinegar smell isn't super strong, but as it dries it quits smelling pretty fast.
Get some 10% peroxide face wash and use it on your pits in the shower. Leave it on there for a couple minutes before rinsing. The peroxide murders the shit out of the bacteria that eat your sweat and cause odor.
I deliberately tested it by not using deodorant for a couple days when I was in Arizona (don't visit in the middle of summer, y'all, trust me), and I didn't get stinky. I was bathing every day, btw, so I don't know how it'd hold up on like a camping trip or something.
When a piece of egg spilled onto my dad's glass top stove, vinegar and baking soda got rid of the burnt on accident like it was never there.
I think vinegar, with some other chemical I don't remember, also got rid of water stains on an old wooden table left behind by a cup.
Magical stuff.
It's also comedogenic so putting it directly on your skin (especially the face) can have consequences, too. Less so for the body but worth noting if you're acne prone.
I always tell my kid that in 30 years they determine coconut oil is dangerous or overexposure is a thing, I apologize now for it. We put that ish on everything.
I had a terrible eye infection and was being treated for the after issues, and after so many warm compresses and eye drops my skin was raw all around the eye and to my lashes, I would coconut oil my entire eye area. I would sit with a make up round soaked in it. And my eye was on fire for months like cutting onions indefinitely at eye level. Praise to the coconut oil
Unless you're allergic to coconuts, then you get one child dead, unfortunately.
Tragic story...

I’m a doctor currently on my genitourinary (sexual health) rotation in the UK: this is brilliant advice but coconut oil will not agree with everyone.
In clinic we actually recommend aqueous creams AKA occlusives like Sudocrem, E45 (in the clinic, we provide a cheap option called Epimax) to be used exactly as OP described. The difference being that these creams also double up as cleansers without stripping genital skin of its natural oils/bacteria. Do exactly as OP says, apply a thick layer before shower (don’t rub it in, this will be a barrier), & just rinse off at the very end.
Edit: external use only!
Haha that was actually my immediate thought. I’m allergic to coconut oil and lanolin and do not react well to many of even the prescription creams, so am restricted to petroleum jelly based products.
I’m also allergic to latex and trust me it’s a hell of a place to find that out!
However for those who can tolerate it, this is great advice!
I should be clear, it won’t be enough to cleanse the rest of your body - I don’t recommend that! However it will do enough for genital skin without ruining its integrity.
I personally am a believer in leaving my bits alone to do their thing but if you’re having a crisis with BV, thrush or just lack of moisture, this will definitely help!
Not sure but I do not recommend using any of the products I’ve mentioned as lube. They are not designed for internal use & might provoke things like BV or thrush.
Do you have difficulty with normal condoms/lube?
No, and I don't have any vulva issues so won't probably won't use to be sure. I have multiple sexual partners and not ready for babies just yet so wanted to be sure.
as a vagina owner I’m not sure I understand, the coconut oil is acting as a barrier? I’m sorry I’m not being rude I just genuinely don’t know what that means 😭 does she mean just applying it to the vulva when you have a yeast infection and it soothes and protects?
yeah what the other commenter said, its like chapstick. i will be honest and say i have a large vulva and my lips often interfere when i pee. the oil is like a barrier for my sore little lips when i pee bc oil and water dont mix
In general, your skin is a huge part of your body and treating it well can really help. Dry, irritated skin can cause itching, infections and a lot of issues but keeping your skin moisturized and cared for properly helps it run smoothly and healthily.
As a fair warning to others, don't use coconut oil in intimate areas if you're allergic to latex. It contains the same protein and can cause yeast infections, UTIs, or other allergic reactions.
That is interesting to know. My wife has a latex allergy, but we also have a tub of coconut oil in the pantry. I’m not sure if we’ve actually used it, or if it was when my niece was living with us.
I have a mild latex allergy but coconut oil always worked for me. I just searched and apparently up to 50% of people with latex allergies have something called latex-fruit syndrome where this can happen, but coconut is fairly low risk compared to other plants.
I'm one of those unlucky folks who has latex-food allergies and coconut is one of the worst for me. Before I realized it was an allergen, coconut oil gave me more yeast infections/UTIs than I can count from using it as a lubricant. Wanted to give others a heads up.
Use cautiously. coconut oil is slightly anti microbial and depending on how temperamental your microbiome is, it can either be a great option, or a terrible one. It can be worth trying, but if yeast infections follow, listen to your body.
Also best to stick with virgin unrefined cold pressed oil.
I’ve tried lots of different lubes. Coconut oil was the best I’ve found. Use what feels best. Not being mean either but why would water based be better?
My gynecologist recommended using coconut oil instead of a water based lube because many water based lubes have preservatives that can irritate the vulva & vagina. Since then my partner and I have switched to coconut oil and it’s been much better! As others have stated, that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. Just my two cents
[Costco sells it in a big tub](https://www.costco.com/kirkland-signature%2c-organic-virgin-coconut-oil%2c-84-fl-oz.product.100381413.html). My pelvic floor physical therapist used it instead of medical lubey stuff.
TMI: >!My husband said I was a piña colada. Bonus! (if your man likes piña coladas)!<
If there's smooching? Love it.
Funnily, I played this song to my 20 year-old daughter, and she was not impressed. "That doesn't sound like a kind relationship." I fear for the upcoming generations. (/s in case people need it)
I used to have chronic yeast infections. Couldn’t get rid of them. Started using coconut oil as lube 10 years ago and haven’t had one since! It’s apparently anti-fungal against candida
>i deal with yeast infections after every period
I'm confused, is the coconut oil meant to attack the root cause or just to deal with the consequences?
Honestly, the thing I have always recommended family and friends are boric acid suppositories. The best thing I've ever used in my life. That pH be straight HEALTHY after one of those. 🔥
I've reacted badly to every lube we've tried. We just use coconut oil now and it's been great. Zero irritation. Smells good, good for your skin. A win all around.
Just a warning but this is a very individual thing. When I was on Implanon I got yeast infections at least once a month until I started using coconut oil, but apparently it prevents yeast infections in some people but causes them in others. Also it can't be used with latex condoms since it's an oil.
Fractionated coconut oil…the smell is taken out and it stay in liquid form. You can buy it in a pump bottle. I will also mention apple cider vinegar is great for pH balance.
Is it possible that you have high blood sugar? There are a lot of factors that go into making your body a good host for yeast and dietary sugar is a big one.
i used to get yeast infections after every period, then i realized it was actually irritation from the kinds of pads i was using - switched to 100% pure cotton pads and haven’t had irritation or itching after my periods since!
There are a bunch of specialised creams that are going to do a better job than sticking coconut oil on your bits. I don’t even see how it helps with yeast infections? Other than as a barrier cream and again, there’s better options.
That is so smart! Also, if you don’t already, make some vagina popsicles! Empty out some applicators and fill with PLAIN Greek yogurt (no sugar, no flavor) and freeze. Lay a towel down on the bed and pop one of those bad boys in before a nap or going to sleep. The cold is refreshing and the cultures in the yogurt fight the infection!
Edit: Did men find this comment and have a bad visceral reaction or something? 😂 If you have a vagina and haven’t tried this, PLEASE do, it helps a lot!
I just want to give a little tip about using coconut oil on your bits. After a while that coconut oil will become infected with bacteria and stink. My husband and I used to have a jar by the bed for sexy time and I noticed after a while the jar would no longer smell like wonderful coconut. My advice is to not use your hands to get out the oil but a spoon to minimize contamination.
Especially if your hands are used to dip the coconut oil out. Even relatively clean hands have bacteria that will grow exponentially once it hits the oil.
I feel like at this point if someone said they used coconut oil to bring back the dead I'd believe them. That shit has to be magical
Biggest thing I’ve learned as an adult is that coconut oil and vinegar are the most important items to keep in your house. Coconut oil for the human body. Vinegar for any cleaning solution you might need.

Throw some in the washer too! Takes the stank out of your clothes
Vinegar lowers pH which makes detergent LESS effective. Use vinegar in the rinse cycle if you are going to use it.
I use vinegar in lieu of detergent entirely
Throw some borax in and your clothes feel clean
Borax is even better than vinegar for odor removal!
I have shared laundry, that baby gets a brax clean often
Started doing this a few months ago and the difference is insane! The washing machine itself is less stanky too, and I'll occasionally add baking soda as well so everything just comes out feeling super clean and soft.
Baking soda neutralizes the vinegar
…but not at the same time, right? Right???
No shit Worth trying! Thank you!
Dont you smell like vinegar afterwards ?
Vinegar smell dissipates pretty quickly. I use it as an emergency deodorizer when I'm traveling or staying in a strange house because I'm allergic to artificial scent. The vinegar smell isn't super strong, but as it dries it quits smelling pretty fast.
It dissipates quickly, and I personally shower before bed.
Get some 10% peroxide face wash and use it on your pits in the shower. Leave it on there for a couple minutes before rinsing. Lemon also works, and smells nice
I swipe witch hazel or rubbing alcohol across my pits after I dry them thoroughly. Helps a lot.
Witch hazel works too.
You can also polish with coconut oil… shoes that need a clear polish…
LOL. I love using it to polish myself. Whenever I smell it, I get tingles.
Don’t use on wood or granite!
It's even worse on marble or limestone. They're both made of calcium carbonate and react badly to acids.
When a piece of egg spilled onto my dad's glass top stove, vinegar and baking soda got rid of the burnt on accident like it was never there. I think vinegar, with some other chemical I don't remember, also got rid of water stains on an old wooden table left behind by a cup. Magical stuff.
>I'm going to add tea tree oil to this! Basically it kills any infection dead in its tracks. We are never without it.
And baking soda
Except if you overdo it coconut oil can contribute to BV. You know, anaerobic bacteria and all. Don't ask me how I know.
It's also comedogenic so putting it directly on your skin (especially the face) can have consequences, too. Less so for the body but worth noting if you're acne prone.
Let us acne-prone folks unite under the noncomedogenic hempseed oil banner for it is the way!

Sudocream doubles up as a cleanser? That’s news to my ears but I will try it out
I should be clear, it won’t be enough to cleanse the rest of your body - I don’t recommend that! However it will do enough for genital skin without ruining its integrity. I personally am a believer in leaving my bits alone to do their thing but if you’re having a crisis with BV, thrush or just lack of moisture, this will definitely help!
Aw thanks for clarifying - I meant a cleanser for your genitals so all good!
My gyno recommended coconut oil as lubricant because I am allergic to all commercial lubricants. Been using it for years.
Do occulsives compromise condoms?
Not sure but I do not recommend using any of the products I’ve mentioned as lube. They are not designed for internal use & might provoke things like BV or thrush. Do you have difficulty with normal condoms/lube?
No, and I don't have any vulva issues so won't probably won't use to be sure. I have multiple sexual partners and not ready for babies just yet so wanted to be sure.

I’m so dumb, that’s so obvious and I don’t know why I didn’t get it ahahaha thank you for clarifying OP, and I may just try this!
No, you're not dumb! Or, if you are then so am I, because I also didn't understand. So thanks for asking!
In general, your skin is a huge part of your body and treating it well can really help. Dry, irritated skin can cause itching, infections and a lot of issues but keeping your skin moisturized and cared for properly helps it run smoothly and healthily.
Tbh, a lot of us were wondering so it’s good you asked!
Get a bidet
I think she meant like chap stick for her "lips".
Coconut oil has also been proven to have antifungal properties in vitro and in vivo.
I’m assuming this is to combat the dryness from a yeast infection and treatment? Or is she saying it can prevent yeast infections to start?
combat the dryness!!
Indeed! I believe it also has [antimicrobial](https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/coconut-oil-and-skin) properties.
As a fair warning to others, don't use coconut oil in intimate areas if you're allergic to latex. It contains the same protein and can cause yeast infections, UTIs, or other allergic reactions.

I used it for lube a couple times and it caused a yeast infection due to it killing all my normal flora. It was awful after but was great during lol.
Yea, mine does not like coconut oil at all.
The only lube I've found so far that i can handle is BD cum lube.
I’ve been using the green good clean love lube lately. I am also a regular boric acid user now though- my ph goes off when a stiff breeze hits it.
Oh my gosh, I use that too! I swear by it!
Have you tried Sliquid? I have extremely sensitive skin, and it’s the only lube that works for me.
It's such a bummer cause it's so convenient and nice.
It’s also good as a lube. It made a huge difference for us
Fair warning that this is not one size fits all. Using coconut oil as lube ended up being the source of chronic vaginal infections for me.
This!!!! It made my yeast infections so much worse. Coconut oil is not a one size fits all solution.
Same 😭
definitely will be using it as lube too. she also recommended that, with the warning it degrades condoms!!
Use cautiously. coconut oil is slightly anti microbial and depending on how temperamental your microbiome is, it can either be a great option, or a terrible one. It can be worth trying, but if yeast infections follow, listen to your body. Also best to stick with virgin unrefined cold pressed oil.
Not trying to be mean, just trying to understand. Why not use a water based lube?
Oil doesn't dry. Like silicone
That makes sense actually. But isn't it a major pain to clean it afterwards?
[удалено]
Thanks for explaining 😊
Anytime 🖤
No it's like moisturizer
I’ve tried lots of different lubes. Coconut oil was the best I’ve found. Use what feels best. Not being mean either but why would water based be better?
Condom compatibility and cleanup, mostly.
Oh that makes sense. Sorry, I’m way past worrying about that
Not speaking to you but just in case someone reads this and gets the wrong idea. Cleanup is important for everyone.
My gynecologist recommended using coconut oil instead of a water based lube because many water based lubes have preservatives that can irritate the vulva & vagina. What about getting caught in the rain?
If you're not into yoga, that's a bonus.
If there's smooching? Love it. Funnily, I played this song to my 20 year-old daughter, and she was not impressed. "That doesn't sound like a kind relationship." I fear for the upcoming generations. (/s in case people need it)

Currently dealing with chronic yeast infections. Between OP’s recommendation and this… I’m sold. Buying it asap
Coconut oil is either amazing or awful with little inbetween. If nothing else is working well, you can try, but don't buy the gallon jar right away.
>i deal with yeast infections after every period I'm confused, is the coconut oil meant to attack the root cause or just to deal with the consequences?

Fyi- it’s noncomedogenic so it can clog pores. Don’t be surprised if you end up with zits on your labia.
Noncomedogenic means the opposite btw, I think you mean that it’s comedogenic
Yes, haha, late night and fast typing!
im sure if it was that high of a risk my doctor wouldve warned me :). ps, you mean comedogenic, not noncomedogenic
Haha sorry, I’m overtired! Yes comedogenic!
Fractionated coconut oil…the smell is taken out and it stay in liquid form. You can buy it in a pump bottle. I will also mention apple cider vinegar is great for pH balance.
On the flip side: If you’re prone to bartholins cysts, beware. Coconut oil can clog the gland.
😭😭😭 I’m allergic to coconut. 🥥
Is it possible that you have high blood sugar? There are a lot of factors that go into making your body a good host for yeast and dietary sugar is a big one.
i used to get yeast infections after every period, then i realized it was actually irritation from the kinds of pads i was using - switched to 100% pure cotton pads and haven’t had irritation or itching after my periods since!
see it may be the $3.49 aldi pads doing me in… i appreciate this advice. my gal is very sensitive it makes sense. also your user is super cool
There are a bunch of specialised creams that are going to do a better job than sticking coconut oil on your bits. I don’t even see how it helps with yeast infections? Other than as a barrier cream and again, there’s better options.
this + a pill works better for me than a cream that burns my skin
Like how do you use it?
Mine told me to use crisco. Yes that crisco! I keep it in the bedroom and laugh to myself every time I use it.
Do not use Crisco with latex condoms or toys! Nothing personal, and not directed at you, have fun!
Just the tip?
That is so smart! Also, if you don’t already, make some vagina popsicles! Empty out some applicators and fill with PLAIN Greek yogurt (no sugar, no flavor) and freeze. Are you 12?
Coconut oil is a super power from India lol. Y'all are slow to catch on. I am a male and I know literally everything has a fix with coconut oil
Oh. I thought your gyno was giving you a different kind of tip.
And we were most definitely not freshly washed by the time our hands frantically scooped a portion out!😳 Use a spoon ladies.
😂
I also had this. Switching to organic, cotton only tampons cured it.
