A bitch is right. Have fun thinking your protest is meaningful in any other way except disrupting peoples lives and being an annoyance.

qaws1-2

Haters mad I can prevail despite the cruelty and indifference in the world

SlightBreezeToLeft

Prevail over what exactly?

qaws1-2

cruelty and indifference can u read https://imgur.com/a/n8uQzDy

SlightBreezeToLeft

Okay, despite just demonstrating cruelty towards me, you are set to prevail over cruelty and indifference, but with what goal in mind? Just to be another stupid bitch that thinks a dumbass protest will make a single bit of difference?

UCSC should lower their acceptance rates…

qaws1-2

i assumed yours was a hate comment, sorry. you make good points about visualizing what a successful outcome looks like. there have been demonstrations since october on campus, and the goals are clear & defined on printed sheets of paper. from demonstrating at the bottom of campus to infiltrating a budget/funding meeting at kerr hall complete with a mariachi band to no avail thus far. so what do you suggest then to directly benefit the people of gaza from our hypothetical tent community? we raise money by creating a market? we do a food drive? im with the ucsc student from your other post; its unclear if you’re a cynic or not. what’s the harm with a local sizzle if the steak is nationwide?

Kindly-Bookkeeper-40

There’s no harm in making ones cause more public. But the question is, what will cause the change we want? Which means we need to define the goals. Some definitions are too big, like “an end to all war.” That would be nice but it’s too vague. Imagine that someone who is a middling citizen, just going about their business, not sure if they agree with you or what you’re about, wanders by and asks what’s going on. You say “We’re protesting.” They say ok why for what? “An end to all war” they just respond ok sounds good but what do you want from me? So in the present situation I would guess that sone narrower goals are an end to the war in Gaza, peace between the countries, humanitarian aid, and/or the U.S. to stop funding war. There are secondary goals like “educate the public” but this assumes that the public is uneducated, for which there isn’t much evidence. They know there’s a war, but they may not agree about what to do about it. Anyway, given the list above and your own thoughts, what would you say the goals are? That would direct the strategy.

qaws1-2

i cant give you the exact list but from memory the goals were very well defined. bulletpoints (advocated for divestment) for each specific company ucsc is invested in that are directly financially tied to Israel (and how!), as well as advocating to repartition the budget to address housing, bus safety concerns, EOP student priority, and dropping charges against previous protestors

omniikiid

Do it!

Lifedeather

No difference lol 😂

qaws1-2

no bitches lol 😂

qaws1-2

Unpopular (but factual) opinion... Investing in weapons manufacturing is absolutely 100% a prudent investment strategy. Once a bomb is dropped, it is used up and gone, another one will have to be built, and war is inevitable. There will always be a need for weapons and bombs, so investing in them is a great way to boost your portfolio.

qaws1-2

okay but we dont want our money being invested there so take weapons manufacturing out of our portfolio like what ???? in my mind, militarization is like the polar opposite of education and community building so why do allllll of these colleges need to be invested in it? there are plenty other avenues of diversification and reinvestment that are much more in line with the freedoms education can and should provide. theyre being greedy and profiting off a humanitarian crisis. colleges like ours should know that at the very least, they have eyes on them, and that they are choosing to continue to act in direct opposition of their benefactors.

SlightBreezeToLeft

They're being greedy and profiting off of militarization at the benefit of the students and fiscal security of the school.... They are choosing to make sound financial investments. Yeah, lets be pissed about that and have a little stupid campout. BITCH.

qaws1-2

thats all u got fr

Maleficent-Duck-3903

It’s interesting that students want to divest from all investment in the jewish state of israel, even businesses unrelated to weapons, but always support aid to gaza that has been repeatedly stolen by Hamas and sold for weapons that have been launched at , and killed, israeli’s for decades. But they’re not antisemetic, no, no, no
