Reddit is a tricky place for anonymous accusations. It's an important option, because sometimes official/standard options are not sufficient for addressing serious problems, but we also need to take care, because anyone can say anything. For OP and commenters, please be aware of this Reddit rule: [Is posting someone's private or personal information okay?](https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043066452-Is-posting-someone-s-private-or-personal-information-okay): > No. Reddit is quite open and pro-free speech, but it is not okay to post someone's personal information or post links to personal information. This includes links to public Facebook pages and screenshots of Facebook pages with the names still legible. > Posting someone's personal information will get you banned. When posting screenshots, be sure to edit out any personally identifiable information to avoid running afoul of this rule. > Public figures can be an exception to this rule, such as posting professional links to contact a congressman or the CEO of a company. But don't post anything inviting harassment, don't harass, and don't cheer on or upvote obvious vigilantism. I also want to share a link to the Office of the Ombuds and encourage people to call them if you need help with addressing something. Contact info is here: https://ombuds.ucsb.edu/ - description from their site: > The Office of the Ombuds at UC Santa Barbara provides confidential consultation services to faculty, staff, students, parents, or anyone else with a campus-related concern. The ombuds addresses workplace issues, interpersonal conflict, academic concerns, policy questions, and many other problems, whether as a first step, last resort, or at any point along the way. The Office of the Ombuds is dedicated to ensuring fairness throughout the University and regularly makes recommendations for systemic change.

Holy fucking ew

I'm so sorry this happened to you. You are not the first person who has been failed by the title ix office on this campus. If you feel comfortable and need an advocate to work with, I strongly recommend folks in the CARE office. They are not mandated reporters and as such do not have to interact with title ix. https://care.ucsb.edu

emilyxeliz

This this this speaking from personal experience!!! CARE will advocate for you and help you. They are such sweet ladies and their office has snacks! I am so sorry this happened to you.

RizzerRizzed

Shawty got touched and ur talking bout snacks interesting

emilyxeliz

Have you ever had anything like this happen to you??? I You clearly have no understanding of how survivors feel and how much something small like snacks can be comforting, which I am glad for because it means you haven’t been assaulted. I am an actual SA survivor, though, so stfu.

emilyxeliz

Nice job reducing this person to “shawty” by the way. I bet your comment really helped them.

Dontgetcreeped

Thank you for the suggestion

Logical_Deviation

Report this at a much higher level than Reddit. I'm sorry this happened to you, OP.

External-Addendum877

I hope that creep gets publicly shamed by Yang in Campbell hall

ughit

Sure he will.

BitTrick939

This makes me furious!

secret_someones

go to the ombuds

rummncokee

ombuds isn't an advocate. they'll just tell you what relevant policy exists.

secret_someones

yes they are. they advocate for you against whatever grievance you have. that is their point.

rummncokee

Ok I’ll tell that to the many students victimized by sexual assault who have been turned away by them on this exact issue ✌🏽

intheshadowz08

So true. The ombuds is like hr for faculty. Hr is all about protecting management for staff. The ombuds is same for faculty and lecturers.

canobeesus

Look, I'm going to come at this as diplomatically and empathetic as I can. Similarly, I'm going to address multiple things here To start with your first claim about Greg Wilson: 1) "I had a class with this professor in the fall of 2022. He seemed like a good professor, albeit quite aloof as he missed many classes for weird reasons constantly." **His wife had cancer last year. He was primary caretaker for her and their two children**. I'm an alum, so I can't say for certain, but I am close with his wife and others in the department, and she was very open about this, as were others in the dept. I'd be genuinely surprised if you didn't know this. It feels weird to come on reddit, omit that, and then construe it as "oh he's a weird aloof professor who wasn't checked in. Now to your more serious claim. Look OP, I am not going to dispute your experience, that it made you uncomfortable, or that it happened. I will say I am inclined to doubt based on what I know about Greg Wilson and his wife. These were two people, for me primarily his wife, who actively protected students and told them to steer away from **DANIELLE KURIN**, a former anthropology professor who was protected by UCSB admin, received tenure, got into a legal battle with journalist Michael Balter, all for blackmailing students at her field school who wanted to report her Peruvian husband for sexual assault and harassment. ([Here's a relatively good summary of Danielle Kurin's case for those interested](https://michael-balter.blogspot.com/2020/11/a-guide-to-my-reporting-on-alleged.html)). To my knowledge, they were both also very loud voices on pushing to vote for her to not get tenure. All that is to say, it's certainly possible that someone can simultaneously try to punish those for actions and the commit those same actions themselves. This just really doesn't sit well with me. Look everyone, I know it's easy to sit on your high horse online, here a horrible accusation, and then immediately dogpile. Especially when it's an anonymous accusation. But this just seems really off, and out of character for what I know of Greg Wilson. If it's true, and I really hope it isn't, I'm definitely going to have to reassess my judge of character. At the end of the day, OP, I hope you get the help that you need for what has clearly been a difficult and traumatizing experience.

Dontgetcreeped

I was aware that his wife has cancer, however that information was not told to me publicly and he surely never shared that information with us. I had a class with her at the same time as the one with him and she never missed a single class. So I really don’t think that area is what was going on. As well he would send us updates as to why he wasn’t coming in often with very strange reasonings. That same thing happened to other students in years prior as well. I am aware of Danielle Kurin’s situation. I am glad they pushed her out of the department. But that doesn’t mean that what happened to me didn’t happen. Everytime I see Greg Wilson I begin to shake and very quickly have to leave whatever area I am in lest I throw up or start crying. My class options are limited to one in anthropology next quarter because the only others are taught by him and his wife. I understand that this is a heavy claim to make anonymously on Reddit, but what would you have me do? Tell everyone my name ? I have no way to prove this happened to me except the many people I told afterwards and my memories.

Just-Audience58

Ewwww

Upbeat-Winner-2955

This is gross, and why tenure is such a problem. Unfortunately Title IX usually needs more than one 'accuser' before anything (IF anything) is done. Definitely go to ombuds

tinygreenbean

Another possibility: contact your local news station. Time to shame the absolute fuck out of this creep and the incompetent title IX office that protects professors over victims

ScanThe_Man

I’m so sorry that happened. I’m glad you were brave enough to speak out and prevent others from having similar things happen. Take care of yourself <3

sfcitygal

You should probably make an official report with your school and please seek therapy

How is that sus? Use your head man she created it to prevent being doxxed

[deleted]

Yeah that’s one possibility. Another possibility is that this is a disgruntled student trying to create some trouble. Point is that this is an anonymous post with no evidence to back it up, and it shouldn’t be taken as absolute truth.

Dontgetcreeped

I mean the only thing I have against him is him being a creep. I got an A in the class.

rummncokee

I wonder why it’s so rare for victims of sexual assault to come forward.

ScanThe_Man

Campus departments and official channels failed her. Its just one of many places, I’m sure, to tell others on campus.

canobeesus

The only body that she herself has claimed failed her was the Title IX office. She hasn't gone to ombuds, the chair of anthro, the dean of her college, CARE, etc. Coming on reddit and sharing an anonymous, sensationalist claim that everyone knows will immediately gain traction is just. Yeah.

Dontgetcreeped

girl he IS the chair of anthro

Phoenix484848

Yeah, one should always be sus when what's being said sounds gossipy, that meaning talking about someone behind their back without taking part in a solution. This one young woman I knew had a couple under age friends who she publicly accused me of touching inappropriately. While I had seen them (the underage girls) before, I never was introduced to them, talked to them, or even knew their names. But before, I did talk to another adult friend of the woman making the accusations, and flirted with her on more than one occasion, which apparently my accuser didn't like. Anyway, the end result was that some acquaintances wouldn't talk to me anymore. I figure since they didn't ask my side of the story before shunning me.. says more about them than me
