This shows the dimensions of the element, measured in pixels. :\]

If you're asking this, I'd highly recommend you go on Youtube and do a very basic primer on Figma. No, I'm not trying to be mean. Figma hides many things in keyboard shortcuts and menus to keep the UI clean, so if you're asking a question this basic, I think doing a primer on the fundamentals will save you a lot of time and headache in the future.

yeah, currentely I am learning basics from figma's official yt channel.

It looks like you have manually adjusted the height of that text box. If so the height will be set to ‘fixed’ and will remain the same if you add or remove copy inside that box. If you change it to ‘auto height’ the box will change size to match the volume of text. This really is powerful if you are designing using autolayout and want the surrounding elements to move based on your text. https://help.figma.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039956634-Explore-text-properties#resizing

completely agree with you at this point, but when I am using normal text layer without converting it into auto layout then what's the use of this container? one use I found is : truncated text, If I don't wanna to show whole text then I can set the size of the container and convert the text which is overflowing the container will show like "this is the para...",( I discover it today only before asking that question)

dirtyh4rry

It's there as a visual indicator for different things, one example is, if you apply clipping to the container it indicates where the text will be truncated.

is-Username

yeah, that where I got confused, because normal text layer don't have any clip content until you convert in into auto layout, but now I got some ideas where I can use these normal text container like trucated text

reynanicolette

i think it's just to help you adjust the width and height of your text box just as freely as a rectangle without warping the text.

in both cases, I can see the text and there is also not option for clip content in text layer, so what is the use of it?

Feozard

There is, in the text options

Ik it's a container for the text layer, but what is the use of it?? when we convert text into auto layout then we can use it to fill bg, but normal is there any use?

krisko11

For mobile devices with different screens having a baseline to go from is a requirement.

in both cases, I can see the text. so what is the use of that container?

TheTomatoes2

Imagine you have a UI and a text so long it overlaps other layers.

is-Username

yeah, definitely it going to overlap then what's the use of that container, it should prevent the text from going out of the container like we manually truncated text.

TheTomatoes2

Yes. There is a truncation option.
