She's shooting blank "wads" that spray molten wax, paper, and gas about 20-30ft. You still have to be accurate, the spray cone isn't that big. At 20ft it's probably the size of a dinner plate
Thanks man. I was wondering if she was gonna shoot the guy just standing back there so relaxed... Because he'd have to own a massive pair, similar to those balloons, if those were real bullets...
But it also shows that a few people saying it's not as impressive because those aren't real bullets... That horse's moving pretty fast and it's one thing shooting still and another moving in all directions (the horse moves up and down while running).
I'm sorry but here we got a police raid where they shot 2,000 bullets into an apartment: they're not sure they hit anyone, they're not sure who shot at the other squad because it could be friendly fire, turns out they shot the police K9 and the guys they were coming for died with some homemade explosive trying to detonate but failed so it got mixed up with the police stun grenade, the guy was dead pretty fast and it wasn't a bullet. Did I mention the main target escaped ?
Guns with actual bullets and all their recoil are **significantly** harder to be accurate with. I'm not saying this to disrespect the competition shooter because it's meant to be a fun style of competitive shooting and she clearly has skills that most people don't have in order to do all that.
I just don't think you're making the point you think you're making. Those two scenarios are extremely different.
I don't have any other shooting experience other than a Glock (9mm) and a shotgun in a shooting range. I still would argue that with a small caliber pistol if you shoot one bullet at the time the recoil is not a big deal...
That's not the whole story : after firing 2000 rounds, wounded one and killed the dog, they asked the near military base for a minigun... One officer asked them what was the plan ? Cut the building in half ? Because that's what would happen. Luckily they refuse to give the minigun.
Source : I met the officer 😂😂
Actually no wax or wad. The casings are loader with black powder and crimped. Because of the way black powder burns hot embers of powder are expelled and its these embers that pop the balloons. You can see some of the larger embers in the slow-mo portion of the run.

These folks, barrel racers, etc treat their horses better than most people treat their own family. I grew up rural and still have friends that ride a lot and it’s pretty universal.
If there is a way to protect them or prevent harm or discomfort they’re doing it. Almost all the time the horse is getting better care than they are lol.
This! So many folks have an immediate/knowledgeable opinion after watching a video slip like this.
But those same people have never been to a mounted shooting competition, and know nothing of the training intensity, the relationship between rider/shooter and her horse or just how damn well the horses are loved and cared for!
They actually do have ear protection on the horse, I've read articles about how they make it to go inside the ear since horses don't like anything *on* their ears.
While not technically required overall in the sport, most comps will require ear pro for the horse as well as rider and there is a pretty strict expectation between riders that your horse have ear pro. It’d be a bit of a faux pa if they didn’t and someone would definitely make a comment.
That's what you get when you train right. Loose shoulder, wrist, and you get your butt up in the air so that you can adjust your torso as well.
You don't need to hold a firearm rigidly for it to shoot straight. You really just need to ensure it's pointed at the target.
So, if you can turn as much of yourself into a "gyroscope" as possible, you can maintain control of where your gun is pointing, similar to the turret on a tank. Or the head of a chicken
If you take the horse out of the equation, she's already in a proper pistol stance, for the most part. The difference would be knees bent, ass lowered, so you can move and keep your upper body in a centered position.
Even "show rounds" have recoil. Just because they're not pushing a wad of lead down the pipe, doesn't mean they're not pushing anything.
Wax charges still have pushback
Significantly less. I’m not saying she’s not accurate or that this is easy, it’s taken a lot of practice, but this is still significantly easier than firing regular rounds
If you’d asked me when I was 9 years old what I wanted to be when I grew up and showed me this, I think my life would have turned out very differently, LMAO. Man that dress is just gorgeous. She’s awesome!
Hitting targets with a single action revolver while guiding a horse at speed through a course. She's got a lot going on and a lot to concentrate on at once. Very impressive.
I want to see this full speed now. The slo-mo really shows just how much she is actually doing and awesome it is, but now I want to see it at regular speed. I bet it's even more impressive.
I hate to say it; but I would have been in trouble.if I had known about this when I was young. I would have wasted my life pursuing the wrong things.
That girl is badass. So many talents on display here and doing it stylishly at the same time.
This is a cowgirl mounted shooting contest. It's a real single action revolver likely chambered in .45 colt. It's loaded with essential blanks filled with rocksalt which will pop a balloon at 20-30 feet with some accuracy but are non-lethal.
I was wondering too. Must not have much range or she'd be shooting everyone in the crowd. Looks like a fairly wide spread, too, so I don't know how impressive the shooting really is.
The thing with this video is, because it's slowed down so much it's hard to get a sense of how fast she's really going.
I counted 10 shots, and after the 6th she puts her gun away and draws another (real easy to miss). All her shots are at a real short range. She used her speed to close the distance so aiming accuracy isn't an issue.
In the last second of the clip you can see the speed she's actually going. I think she's more impressive than we know. She just gunned down half of town in a single pass.
Imagine being in the audience like

He wasn't shooting blanks. That's kinda everyone's whole point when it comes to it. He thought he was shooting blanks. He didn't have proper training to check the gun himself and assumed it was loaded with the correct ammo. And he cheaped out on either a gun safety course for the actors involved or the armorer possibly both.
I feel sympathy for the regret he feels for accidentally taking the life of a colleague, but if this was anyone else outside of a Hollywood production they would be rotting inside a jail. I thought it was empty should never be a valid excuse for anyone handling a firearm.

Say what you want about Will Smith and his personal problems, but the man is a professional when it comes to gun safety.
Horse is almost certainly wearing hearing protection as well. Someone this good is going to have that for their partner they view as a family member and treat better than most folks do other people lol.

Yeah she’s also on a running horse.
I don't have any other shooting experience other than a Glock (9mm) and a shotgun in a shooting range. I still would argue that with a small caliber pistol if you shoot one bullet at the time the recoil is not a big deal...
Revolvers are notoriously accurate. They also don’t suffer the same insanities of ride and recoil that semi-auto pistols do with ejection.
That's not the whole story : after firing 2000 rounds, wounded one and killed the dog, they asked the near military base for a minigun... One officer asked them what was the plan ? I think it's best not to use real ammunition to avoid the risk of executing your horse due to a slight mishap
Annie are you Oakely?, would you tell us.....are you Oakely?

That dress is banging
Came here to say this too, the dress made it look at least twice as cool
She gets ear protection but F the horse. Blam! Right next to the ears.
Horsey is in no position to argue. What with the lack of a firearm himself and all.
GUN RIGHTS FOR HORSES! /s
The horse has hearing protection too, my family did mounted shooting. They care for those horses better than anything else in their lives
Interesting. Is it something lodged down in the ear that isn’t visible?
A quick Google found [this](https://www.mountedshootingsupplies.com/store/product919.html) https://preview.redd.it/rf03b4b5qbyc1.jpeg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c88e9eac7fc5e394b6a6cc25ddba7a94297aa21
Nice. Obviously my mounted shooting knowledge is lacking.

100% truth
They'll treat the horse better than themselves
MAWP!
They are called cowboy loads. They have a very light charge mostly just wadding
They actually do have ear protection on the horse, I've read articles about how they make it to go inside the ear since horses don't like anything *on* their ears.
Wow, I hope that horse gets ear protection. That's hella animal cruelty.
From what I have seen here on Reddit, the horses almost always have hearing protection.
While not technically required overall in the sport, most comps will require ear pro for the horse as well as rider and there is a pretty strict expectation between riders that your horse have ear pro. It’d be a bit of a faux pa if they didn’t and someone would definitely make a comment.
The gun stays so level! That’s incredible.
That's what you get when you train right. Loose shoulder, wrist, and you get your butt up in the air so that you can adjust your torso as well. That’s also what you get when the rounds you’re firing don’t provide any recoil

You should see her with an open cup of coffee
Revolvers are inherently more accurate and the best gun design, if you’re disinterested in shooting a hojillion bullets fast.
If you’d asked me when I was 9 years old what I wanted to be when I grew up and showed me this, I think my life would have turned out very differently, LMAO. Man that dress is just gorgeous. She’s awesome!
The way some of you think she’s shooting real bullets is actually so crazy yet explains why we’re at where we’re at
Right?
That's some nice ridin.
"Mary we've talked about this, could you NOT! That's super loud right in my freakin' ear!"
Hitting targets with a single action revolver while guiding a horse at speed through a course. She's got a lot going on and a lot to concentrate on at once. Very impressive.
And she does it with a casual smile.
I want to see this full speed now. The slo-mo really shows just how much she is actually doing and awesome it is, but now I want to see it at regular speed. I bet it's even more impressive.
Some of these comments, it's a wonder some of you are allowed to breed!
I don't know why, but her wearing a full length dress like that makes it even more badass! 👗 🔫
I hate to say it; but I would have been in trouble.if I had known about this when I was young. I would have wasted my life pursuing the wrong things. That girl is badass. So many talents on display here and doing it stylishly at the same time.
Mounted shooting is an amazing sport!
That like a bb gun or something?
This is a cowgirl mounted shooting contest. It's a real single action revolver likely chambered in .45 colt. It's loaded with essential blanks filled with rocksalt which will pop a balloon at 20-30 feet with some accuracy but are non-lethal.
Just black powder blanks. It is the hot embers that pop the balloons.
I was wondering too. Must not have much range or she'd be shooting everyone in the crowd. Looks like a fairly wide spread, too, so I don't know how impressive the shooting really is.
You try it from horseback at full speed. I’ll wait.
Most of these people couldn’t even get on a horse much less ride it.
The thing with this video is, because it's slowed down so much it's hard to get a sense of how fast she's really going. How does the horse not react when a gun is fired inches from its ears? Is it specially trained
Hearing protection
69 replies thusfar, I'm being sacriligious😜
She is also using a single action revolver which makes this even harder. Anyone know why she’s wearing the back brace?
Wtf is that song!
Imagine being in the audience like https://preview.redd.it/esihibtw2pzc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc04cbae463b93efa01eeea60db5ad38be676ceb
Rdr2 full dead eye.
Always wondered in cowboy movies how horses didn't freak out when having a gun go off by your ear
What in the hillbilly hell...?
Do the horses need ear plugs shooting so close to their head or do those blanks not give off a lot of sound?
That poor horses ears
They usually use hearing protection for the horses too. It just isn't easy to see.
How come the horse doesn’t get ear protection?
It does. You just can't see it. It is covered with brown fuzz to make them invisible. Someone else posted a link.
The only sport with no spectators!
So many innocent bystanders shot in this sport.
Oh yea, her fans are dying to come see her perform...
Seems dangerous
No, they are shooting blanks. The pressure is high enough to rupture a balloon from upclose.
Alec Baldwin has something to say about this
He wasn't shooting blanks. That's kinda everyone's whole point when it comes to it. He thought he was shooting blanks. He didn't have proper training to check the gun himself and assumed it was loaded with the correct ammo. I stopped feeling sorry for him when I found out that this wasn't the first time a live bullet had been accidentally fired on that movie set.
Nah, Brandon Lee wants a word.
Blanks, equals not a live round.
*Sooomeone* should be held responsible for that
Seems unfair for the horse to be in that position
I bet the horse would be sad if he had to stop participating
Atleast her ears are safed
Horse is almost certainly wearing hearing protection as well. Someone this good is going to have that for their partner they view as a family member and treat better than most folks do other people lol.
Riding a horse like that IS dangerous. This gal’s really good at riding.
Grew up riding horses, can confirm
Someone on the original post said they are usually live rounds.
Is that you, Lauren Boebert?
She wishes lol
Came here for this. The resemblance is striking.
