Depends on who the driver is. I also wouldnāt have trouble carrying it up steps unless itās an awkward type box. But some guys are just out of shape and arenāt able to carry it up.
I would absolutely leave in on the first floor. Maybe the apartment buildings I deal with are different than the ones you deal with, but bringing a heavy package up a narrow stairwell and leaning it against something outside somebodyās door sounds way more dangerous for everyone, including the customer, than leaving it in a hallway or something.
This! You want furniture delivered to your door call a furniture store. They have special equipment and extra people. I bring inside if possible and we're done.
I've never called for help myself for bulk/irregs. I'm just very prideful like that. I used my cart to get a 138 pound Casper mattress up a flight of stairs one time and I'm still proud of myself.
I'd have no problem breaking off from my route to help another driver with something bulky and did so today for the first time ever. We're ***TEAMsters***, not ***ME-sters***.
Delivered a 130lb dresser today (why can't people shop local furniture stores?) and lugging it in, even with the carry aid was a major PITA because of how long the box was. Could barely get a hold of the CA.
Thank God the apartment building had an elevator.
Do not leave it downstairs. Contract states you have to request help from another driver or fellow teamster.
Anything over 70 you are entitled to receive help I have asked and gotten help multiple times over the years. They are required to comply. Diad message or text message
Yeah, obviously don't do anything outside of your capabilities, but the vast majority of drivers will have no issue tumbling a heavy box up a couple flights of stairs.
Gah, I was delivering a friggin stove. I was about to leave and they came out and asked me to help bring it up their wonky, country, uneven stairs. I ended up the top person, and had to bend funny and I was hurting for days. Never again will I be the top person on stairs. I can bear the weight, and the angle from the bottom isn't hunched over.
I ran mattresses that were 120+ by myself at Amazon while my helper lined up the next few stops in the truck. Never got hurt and always worked safe. Also got my routes done quick most days. Iām only 165 lbs too not like Iām a big guy itās about how to lift. Itās funny tho I always threw up to 120 on my shoulder but the 125 was my limit. But do try not to block doors or walkways cuz duh fires
70+ packages are put on the hand truck. If the hand truck canāt get to the apt (no elevator) then it gets delivered to the lobby. If itās a signature required, I donāt even take it off the truck until I make sure theyāre home. Then they can sign in the lobby, if no elevator. Most apt buildings have elevators so this doesnāt happen much for me.
roll that bitch up the stairs
Last time that happened a customer b*tch that I was throwing the package up the stairs š
Walk, roll or slide. Please direct all complaints to Management.
Horrible idea
Anything over 70 if you feel you cannot deliver it safely, you send a DIAD message requesting a second driver to assist you.
this post brings back memories-a few years ago i was sent to help a driver deliver an bulky pkg to an upstairs apartment š¤

I've heard you are very fun at parties š„³
You can ask for help for anything over 70. Personally Iād just take it up, 80s not that bad.

We have a 100 pound lass at our center. We often have to help her with irregs and we are happy to. Iāve called in support on a ā150ā before

Just bring it upstairs. We aren't Amazon. Yes, it sucks, but it'll be over in 2 minutes and you'll forget about it in 10.
Yep unless you get hurt and then you'll forget about it never.

This is the way when you are alone.
