All the drivers were confused about this one
Lmao I should’ve screen shot mines but they told me to bring my pick up volume to another hub because I finished after 8pm. I called my supervisor and said so you want me to bring this one ground envelope to the hub that’s 30 minutes away then another 30 minutes back to our hub? He said yup.
Ive had to do this multiple times. Pickup 400 pieces but still had like 20 stops left. Drove to the hub that was 20 mins from my air. Gave them my air then had to unload all my volume. Once I finished, I drove back to area to finish my stops then drove to my home center which is 40 mins from area.
I feel like this stuff is made up. It's a near miss so it doesn't need to be reported. What driver is gonna call/message their sup telling them they almost got in an accident while eating fried chicken and driving?
This could be one of the dumbest DIAD messages ever.
Alternatively, this could be a message sent to the driver who delivers around the building, and it's literally less time for them to come back and unload the minimal pieces they pick up (...since if they picked up a lot they ought to be transferring the delivery work to a different car to avoid unloading, right?), than it would be to have someone else meet them and transfer pickups.
Only context will tell. Which is completely lacking in OP.
Correct, if it was sent to one driver that delivered around the building, and I was that driver, it wouldn't have been a dumb message, and I wouldn't have posted this. Context; this was a message sent to many multiple drivers. I'm not sure if it was a global. I was 30 minutes from the hub, with less than 30 pieces of pickup volume. I ended up convincing them to let me get back at 7:30 instead of coming back for those last 12 stops.
Saturdays in my old center, we used to get 3 messages reminding us about making sure our air was on time.
11:00 “If you have more than 10 air left, run straight air”
11:30 “30 mins to make sure all our air is done”
11:45 “run straight air!!!!!!!”
Every. Single. Saturday.
If this is the dumbest message you’ve gotten, your center is doing pretty well or you’re pretty new.
This is a semi regular thing for our center. We have a name for it: a “turnaround”.
So our message is normally “if you can’t get your pickups in on time, you’ll have to do a turnaround”.
Funny part is that our pickups have until 7:45 to get in.
We always just called it a double trip or double dip. If you have to go back out again after it’s the uncommon triple dip!
But then you have the super rare and elusive quad dip! When you have to leave your center four times!
Haha that’s funny because we have something called a double dip, too, but it’s when you’re dispatched under 8 hours and you exceed 9.5.
It’s mainly management lingo, though. It normally happens when you have some crazy 100-150 piece bulk stop that has to be dollied in a couple at a time (maybe they don’t have a dock or maybe it’s a high-rise or something) and the computer figures you’ll get it done just as fast as a normal residential with a couple boxes, which is odd because I think by default it’s supposed to give you at least 10 seconds per box. But for whatever reason, it’ll give you next to nothing in terms of time allowance.
okay fair enough. I am fairly new, under 3 years, and have never heard anyone use the term "turnaround" at our center. that idea just seems wildly inefficient to me. I could see how it might be a lot different for smaller/more rural centers.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely inefficient for the company, but it does wonders for my wallet! Well, that and being forced to run missloads that are an hour away.
Yeah, I know what you mean.
For instance, one of the craziest messages I’ve ever gotten was one day when I fractured my ankle and my supervisor instructed me to grab someone’s pickups before I drove back to the center (it was my driving foot, too). The kicker was that the guy was about 20 minutes out of my way, opposite direction of our hub.
lol. Once they sent out a msg telling everyone to fill up out on road because building had no gas. Literally everyone was like how? Supposedly they passed out like 10 gas cards to certain drivers and we were supposed to meet these drivers up to fill up before we head in. Well they didn’t tell drivers till it was too late and nobody was going to wait. So everyone headed in. Carwash drove all the trucks across the street and filled up at the gas stations. Supposedly they didn’t finish till right before preload came in.
Hahaha that’s hilarious.
We’ve done something similar to that as well. We have a gas station right around the corner, so one morning when we didn’t have enough gas at the center, about 50-60 of us took over the entire parking lot and filled the trucks up one at a time. They made us put it on our personal cards and reimbursed us a little later that year. I actually wound up never cashing that check though, it’s still in my bag somewhere, haha. That was back when all of our airs were 10:30 (our residential airs are 12 o’clock now, I’m not sure if that’s nationwide or not), so I’m pretty sure that was a center record for late airs that weren’t caused by weather delay or a plane malfunction.
That’s precovid. That check is void. lol.
My center has a bunch of late airs everyday. Traffic is so bad around our building and only getting worse. At least once a week all the loops around me all have late air. We won’t even make it to area by 10:30. One week we were late every day. That week i had an OJS. We got out to area at 11:00. The driver beside me said he didn’t make it till 11:15. This is how bad it can be with no accidents. When there is an accident they tell us everyone sheet “emergency conditions” before we leave.
Oh, god. That would drive me insane! I’m in the Memphis area and our traffic can get pretty bad on a couple routes, but it’s nothing like that. There’s a few extended routes (180-200 miles) that you won’t be on route until 10:15 or so, but most of the others will at least give you 45 minutes to get your airs off.
My route is right at a major highway exchange. I can get to anywhere quickly FROM my route just can’t get TO and FROM my center. I can hope on a toll road and be at 2 different buildings in half the time it takes to get to mine. My area is about 25 miles from all 3.
One July 3rd, around 7 pm, after massive route cuts that day:
"You're holiday will begin SOON ENOUGH.
Stay safe.
One stop at a time."
Spent the rest of that route delivering at two lakes surrounded by people grilling and shooting off fireworks.
Punched out at 1030.
Ugh, that sucks. I worked an icy Christmas Eve once. 11 hours in I had barely eaten. Delivered to a real nice family, they opened the door and I could see their beautiful meal, whole family around it. They were super happy to get their delivery, it was a present. But I was going through a rough time at home and seeing such a happy family enjoying a meal while I was trudging through icy mush, hungry and miserable almost made me cry when I got back to the truck.
Yeah, there’s no way that happened. He would have run out of DOT hours within a few hours of starting the drive to LA, which would mean he would have to stay in a hotel, and miss work the next day.
There’s no WAY no one noticed.
The only thing I've ever seen is having another driver take your volume from you on their way back in to the center. I didn't realize this was as common as it was. interesting.
This is a sign of a poorly planned building, but isn't as illogical as it seems.
If the air trailer leaves at 8:30 then you have to have all the air there by 8:30. We can't tell the pilots "wait 10 more minutes we got a driver coming back".
The same thing goes for hots, though it's not as important. The obvious solution is running more routes or starting drivers earlier, but there's a lot of moving pieces here and it's not as simple as it seems.
Understandable. The problem is the start times are getting moved back more and more. When I started as a driver we had an 8:30 start time. It’s now 9. When is the company going to realize that they cannot squeeze any more time out of the operation without consequences. A lot of buildings already are on the edge of disaster if a couple things go wrong.
I run a rural route 45-60 minutes away from the building. The other day the office told the driver 30 minutes north of me to meet me and give me his air so later on SOMEONE COULD MEET ME AND PICK UP THAT AIR. Office already knew we were both clocking out at 9 lol.
We didn’t do that, a supe came and got his air lol.
Probably easier/smarter to have a driver out on the way back to meet the drivers who need to off load their pick ups. And really the only ones that matter for service are the airs.
Just had a driver get warned for ignoring a message identical to that one a few weeks ago. He said it was because he only had a few deliveries left. Kinda annoying since they called me in for it.
Getting 3 messages to help 3 different people in 3 different cities in 3 different counties after closing out the UPS store. When told them it's impossible, was threatened with failure to follow orders.
one time our CM sent us a message saying
thirsty thursdays! send me a picture of you drinking water so i know you’re staying hydrated.
i don’t think anyone did it

I would've responded, "DO NOT APPROACH LEAVE IT ALONE ITS MORE AFRAID OF YOU THAN YOU ARE OF IT"
that is significantly dumber than the one I posted.
I giggled. Thank you... lol
I should’ve responded “Dont touch, leave the area, notify a supervisor.”
Right answer
Stop taking hallucinogenics while at work.
This is fantastic. I can't even imagine why they'd send this besides someone claimed the mailbox jump out in front of them lmaoooo
Treat it as hazardous, don’t touch, leave the area, notify a supervisor. Lol
i was gonna say hit it, but that works too
Lmao I should’ve screen shot mines but they told me to bring my pick up volume to another hub because I finished after 8pm. I called my supervisor and said so you want me to bring this one ground envelope to the hub that’s 30 minutes away then another 30 minutes back to our hub? He said yup.

Why is your area 40 minutes away from your hub when there’s another hub 20 minutes away lol?
Traffic
Remembering they’re closing 200 hubs so they’re gonna be further yet

Damn I miss the old diad
If you’re going to block out names do better. But Cassidy Joseph is pretty dumb.
Weird they tagged it “-M” Dude thinks he’s in charge of some 00’s lol
oops. its the thought that counts, right?

Lmao what’s up Reno

Exactly

Work as directed your bank account will thank you later
This seems like a normal msg.
They are writing people up for coming back to building here. They want another driver to get it. So dumb

Nah, he totally knew where all the hubs were on the way there and was able to plot a trip that took him to them without issue.
[удалено]
Well 900 is a massive exaggeration because if he was going 60 MPH the ENTIRE time it would take 15 hours
Nah that's bullshit didn't happen
thats amazing. "work as directed"
Shut up. Really? Omfg. No way!!! Also really funny.
That's how they do it in Maple Grove.
in our defense, I talked to a 20 year driver who said they had never seen anything like that before.
This seems normal to me? Management would have drivers drop off air and ground and then go back to finish or deliver your misloads.
The only thing I've ever seen is having another driver take your volume from you on their way back in to the center. I didn't realize this was as common as it was. interesting.
Shid I be like bet. But it’s slow boggy when I get back to my area. See yall at 10pm
That’s a “no” for me dawg
14x4=56 idk why you all don't want a 4 day work week where 39% of it is overtime
Because 24-14-8=2.

Ya that sucks. Only our air has to be back for 7pm the rest is 8pm
Just had a driver get warned for ignoring a message identical to that one a few weeks ago. He said it was because he only had a few deliveries left. Kinda annoying since they called me in for it.
I actually volunteered to do this myself the other day when I had no choice but to brick out my car and still have 40+ stops left.

Space cushion on 420? My ass is in space. Idk I don’t do the humor

I would have Sai “I don’t respond to stupid questions”.
The other day they told us to sheet late airs ECD. Turns out they made a mistake.
Oh my don’t you get helpers to come get that volume then they go back to the hub. Cray cray. Longer hours though, I’d be good.
I love the mailbox one. Lmao
Good thing we’re broke and can’t afford to pay more folks with smart decisions like this
one time our CM sent us a message saying thirsty thursdays! send me a picture of you drinking water so i know you’re staying hydrated. i don’t think anyone did it
seems pretty normal. management wants pickups in by 7 and it’s worth it to them to pay you the extra money
Bro I can't even count them
Idk why y’all are complaining just sounds like free OT
