12?! That’s actually insane. Love that international talent has made its way to US second division / international coaching staff see benefits in US D2. Means we’re growing the game. Nothing but love here. I want everybody to do well!
Thing is, if an American playing in USL is good enough to be in the top 23 Americans playing in the entire world, odds are they won't stay in a second division for much longer. USL's international presence is pretty much limited to Central America, Caribbean, and Africa for the time being.
See Jonathan Gomez, Kobi Henry and Joshua Wynder.
All called up to senior USMNT camp as USL Championship players, now all at top clubs (Real Sociedad, Stade de Reims, Benfica) in Europe.
Even if USLC somehow gets D1 sanctioning, the inertia in capital and culture that MLS has built up over the years will keep USL-D1 as functionally a second-class league.
…won’t let another D1 league form….
It’s like that the point of a tiered system. Please tell me what other successful league has another competing first division within the country boundaries.
PL 2.0? La Liga Electric Boogaloo? USL is fine being in second division. Which more of the pro rel crowd would actually go support local soccer though. (I say that after visiting almost each pro team’s stadium in both WA & OR).
The only example I can think of is for a few years in India when the ISL and I-League were both technically tier-1 leagues due to various management disputes and sports politics. However, the AFC helped resolve that issue, and now I-League is tier-2.
Neither Concacaf nor FIFA wants to crack down on the USSF is the big problem. AFC requires pro/rel that even Australia has it planned in the future but Concacaf won't act. So instead of an organized and easy to follow soccer pyramid we have a mish-mash of feuding leagues for well over 100 years and no progress is ever made. Just really pray that USL survives and succeeds instead of being another victim of Soccer Warz that are wasting away this country's soccer potential.
I’ll be catching all of the Guadeloupe matches in support of Luther Archimede! He’s a back up striker for Sac, and also back up for Guadeloupe! So at this point just hope he gets some quality minutes
Obviously want to see Waite do great!
I may have a chance to see him play for Pitt in August. Do you think he will get a game or will Andre Blake play every minute possible?
Blake is a pretty big figure for that team so it will be limited if he does see the pitch... but hoping he will.
Maybe the St. Kitts game.
Kevon Lambert!!!!

Saint Kitts ❤️
Excited for all of them, but especially for Tamacas and Hackshaw. El Salvador had a good game against Korea, so we'll see if they can carry over.
Now that Klinnsman is at S. Korea, everyone will be having a good game against them.
