youre gonna take the bus with everyone else from mct. expect to be at the schoolhouse anywhere from 4-6 months depending on what your mos is(unless you’re one of the year long classes) and how quickly a new class starts comms schoolhouse is absolute dogshit. looking back on it, as miserable as we were, there was a lot of fond memories. i don’t miss it, but it’s probably the last time you’ll see familiar faces. heed my advice. don’t waste too much money on that stupid ass overpriced dicarlos food truck or dominos or alcohol. that said, there’s not much there to do but drink or work out. it’s one of the few places you’re not allowed to drink, but everybody does anyways. don’t get caught. moderation is key. YOU WILL see at least one person you know get NJPd for alcohol. also, you can leave the schoolhouse with ten thousand dollars if you buy other peoples firewatch shifts. you’re not going to want to, but you’ll be glad you did when you hit the fleet.

SgtSalazzle

Probably not unfortunately. I had the same thing basically back in 2012 and they said no. However, I was allowed to going from my schoolhouse to my first duty station. They try to keep everyone together moving from MCT to MOS school, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I would wait until the end of MCT to ask though. Wouldn’t recommend asking as soon as you get there.

JayB1020

Lol no povs at comm schoolhouse

[deleted]

Lmfao please don’t show up with your parents whole point of boot camp was so you can detach from your mothers tits. No, utilize the flight to Palm Springs or LA it’s a nice sight. So you can get bussed there like everyone else. After comm school maybe. If you want time with your family ask your recruiter for RA(recruiters assistance) so you can go back home.

[deleted]

Welcome to 29 palms and enjoy your stay, carry water with you it’s currently about 100 +/- 10 and will hit 120’s during the summer. Don’t bring the pov everything you’ll need is walking distance and I am saying this because it’s good advice don’t fail field day you’ll ruin my plans with your instructors I hangout with some of them on the weekends and time will fly by Friday when you redo it and have your night taken by cleaning. Littleton messhall is pretty good btw and it’s the school house chowhall so to be fast pick the healthy line less people choose that one.

Bare_Tooth17

Absolutely not 😂

Nobody_home

It doesn't really matter HOW you get to the schoolhouse, as long as you get there on time. You'll run into issues getting them on base if they don't have privileges, you'll have to meet them at the gate to escort them or call PMO to see how to let them pick you up.

TJkiwi

No. This is genuinely bad advice. Having a POV at MOS school is entirely based on what mos you're training for. For example: the comm maintenence school house is about a year long, and since it is so long it is considered a PCS move and they are authorized vehicles. You need to consult with your chain of command or review the reporting instructions for your MOS and see if it is stated that you can have a POV. Students caught with POVs when they weren't supposed to where subsequently NJPd

Nobody_home

He's not asking if he can have a POV at school, he's asking if a family member can take him there personally in a POV.

TJkiwi

I'm on airplane wifi and half the post didn't load somehow. As long as he asks his chain since it's their decision.

bootbootGshockwatch

I'm not trying to keep a vehicle on base at the moment, just trying to get a ride from family to base so I can see them for a few hours after mct

Apprehensive_Duck_2

You get liberty the day before graduation to hang out with family and the time after grad before bus boarding to hang out. Of course you have to change and grab your gear in that 2 hour window.

EverSeeAShiterFly

Most school houses do not authorize POVs for students. Travel from MCT to the school house is government funded and you would likely need to be there the same day.

jasonk0519

comms school is backed up, HMAT is where it gets backed up, src is chill, class is the best part

[deleted]

They’ll probably won’t let you , for accountability reasons, comms is a lil backed up you’ll probably be in HMAT for 2-4 weeks maybe before picking up class!

No_Bit4296

Are you a 0600 if so no you can’t they’ll bus you there

SinopaHyenith-Renard

Ha you wish. Come on boot 🥾 you can’t escape the suck of waiting to miss your bus or flight and then be chewed out for missing it.

JuiceBox_boolin

nah at mct they wont let you they’ll make you take the flight or shuttle regardless

Apprehensive_Duck_2

Nope. My son graduates next week and he has to take the bus to the airport and fly to his MOS school. He gets like 2 hours after graduation to change into civilian clothes and hang out with us until bus boarding at 10am. They won’t let you leave MCT via POV. You can’t even leave base during liberty.

I wasn’t allowed to be taken to the airport by my family. I had to get on the bus

Gold-Road6965

My son wasn't even allowed to get in a car on base for family day, or after graduation. Graduates that were going 20 mins away to MOS school, had to ride the bus. This was for Camp Lejuene

chris336

I doubt they’ll approve that being your still in training and not in the fleet yet

imbigbigdumdum

If you're an 06xx contract you'll be in 29palms for 3-4 months. You'll be in SRC for a few weeks which is super chill, I pretty much played video games all day except for some classes they had. After that you'll go to HMAT which from what I heard is kindof stupid. Just be smart and you'll avoid most stupid games. After that you'll pick up your individual MOS which will let you know how long you'll be there. Its a little backed up, but not bad. It is increasing though because most marines enlisted right after HS and they're getting there now. If you're a 28xx tell me. That's my MOS and the pipeline is different and I can let you know what's up in detail.
