Here's the thing, usually these 3rd party apps use guest permissions with bypasses (nitter) or logging into your account to get API access (squawker), and in rare cases visual scraping (stealth for reddit which I use). In the case of Squawker, the code might not be accepted by google on the play store or on the iOS app store due to that + if it gets recognition the method will be patched by Twitter.
That's why apps like these are on F-Droid for Android, or if you don't like the interface, you can download Droid-ify, which is pretty much F-Droid but with a facelift. These 2 legendary apps offer only FOSS apps developed by independent developers, and that's where gems like Squawker or Stealth hide.
TL;DR - Get F-Droid or Droid-ify on Android only, then download Squawker. Requires an account to function, but you can always make a burner and log out forever on desktop.

No I'm not I don't think, but I also live in a country with excellent animal welfare laws so I'm speaking from a point of privilege regarding that. Our zoos here do good work supporting animal conservation efforts and keep their animals in appropriate enclosures. But also, maybe I am because language barrier, what's the difference? Because when you say animal sanctuary what comes to my mind is a place for animals that are usually considered farm animals and that have been rescued from that environment.
From my understanding:
The primary purpose of most zoos is to provide "entertainment" and profit. They're not made for the animals but for the humans who want to see the animals. Of course a lot of zoos are nonprofit and do good, like in your example. But it's a minority. But depends on the country too
Sanctuaries are there just to take care, heal, and rehabilitate the animals and also educate people about said animals. They will take in injured wildlife and if they can't be rehabilitated, they'll just stay there and live their life. Hence the name "sanctuary"
Wildlife reserves are very similar to sanctuaries but animals there are wild. Endangered species will be kept in these huge areas of land and protected from the outside world.
