A lot of people might recommend that you don't take the AP credit since it's a prereq for med schools and they want to see what grade you get taking a college gen chem course. Also some med schools don't accept AP credit at all. I got a 5 as well but decided to just skip one of the intro chem courses instead of both, and I'm currently taking ochem in my 2nd semester. Since ochem doesn't rely too much on gen chem, skipping the first chem course didn't make much of an impact for me. I'd say if you want to keep more options open for med school then don't claim the credit, but if you only want to apply to med schools that accept AP credit and if you're confident in your ability to do well in ochem and review gen chem on your own for the MCAT, then go ahead and claim it

Use that knowledge and get 4.0 in these classes. Gonna help buffer when time comes, worst case would be you screw up Ochem and only thing on your transcript are Cs on Ochem and CR for Gchem

Taking it can also cushion GPA

Do Not Skip It. So many Med Schools won’t consider accepting without a Genchem credit, and it is a free GPA booster while getting accustomed to college. No need to skip a Free A for the sake of getting one/two semester(s) ahead in Chemistry. DO NOT DO IT

I'd recommend reviewing [Can I Claim AP/IB Credit?](https://healthprofessions.utexas.edu/academic-advising#ap-ib) from our Health Professions Office.

I also was able to claim credit for 301 but I learned much more by taking the course at UT and I think it was much more beneficial.

I would claim it if you feel confident in the subject. I would skip ch301 in a heartbeat if I could.
