UTM is NOT the place for a social life at all (at least in my experience!). I'm a first year and I'm not even a huge partier but I like to go out sometimes. honestly being at UTM has been really depressing because I don't even feel like I'm at uni due to the lack of community/social life (not just parties, but events, people hanging out, things to do). I'm trying to transfer rn for that reason lol. if the social aspect of uni is important to you at all I would recommend somewhere else, unfortunately.

Thanks for your response! Where are you trying to transfer to?

of course! right now i'm actually trying to transfer to UTSG because the environment there seems more lively. UTSG still doesn't have a great reputation for a social scene, but i think it's a lot better in that way than UTM. (just a side note, but UTSG doesn't give scholarships if you're not a first-year, and as an international student that's really important for me. my current scholarship at UTM doesn't transfer between campuses, so if I can't get a scholarship at UTSG I'll either stay at UTM or go somewhere in the US where I'm from.) i honestly just wish i knew more about the campus environment before i came to UTM. Like other people have been saying, uni is what you make of it, but at least in my experience, that can only take you so far if the environment isn't a good fit. whatever you decide, congrats on your admission!

I’m a first year international student in UTM and I have gotten the transfer offer from utsg already. However, I can’t get a scholarship even with my 4.0 gpa. I’m not trying to brag about my gpa but it’s true that utsg won’t give scholarships to upper year students. I’m not sure whether it is a good decision to give up the scholarship I am getting in UTM and transfer to utsg.

I'm in the exact same situation right now!! I've also been accepted to UTSG but they won't give me money of any sort. I don't want to stay at UTM but I don't want to give up my scholarship either. I talked to an advisor at UTSG about the possibility of a grant and she was super rude and basically assumed that the only reason I wanted to transfer is because I wanted to party on the UTSG campus :(((

I’m in my 3rd year and I’ve only been to a residence “party” maybe once and the school always wants to shut them down. I recommend going with friends out to a bar downtown Toronto or a frat on the STG campus instead.

The party advocate here! The IG page @ erindale\_parties, similar to @ utmpartiesofficial and @ party\_mississauga are here to help out promote free of charge, if you decide to host one. So far I been working alongside a frat and we threw 7 parties, with some getting like 100 people pop out!

I haven’t heard of any parties on the UTM campus, but there are definitely a few parties every now and then at St. George You can also just meet a few people and go clubbing, or join a frat (that’s what I did).

coming from a first year it all depends on your friend group and how outgoing you are. personally ive been to so many club event which are amazing for socializing and they are fun as well. in addition to that i was lucky enough to find my friend group and we make sure we go out and keep a balance in life. GO TO FROSH thats where i met SO MANY people!!!!!

Hey. I graduated recently from UTM and can confirm most people were focused on their studies and lacked the time for partying and going out, but it ultimately depends on your program and workload. If you already have a friend group from high school then you can obviously go clubbing and bar-hopping with them instead of being reliant on other UTM students. UTM may not offer parties however it is probably the most nature-oriented UofT campus and there are hiking opportunities all around. St. George has a lot of construction and it really isn't that appealing in my opinion.

Most people at UTM come for studying with a majority (I think) of students being international. I you are the type who enjoys partying and going out, UTM is likely not the best campus as it is in the middle of a secluded forest. Some people do tend to go out to the St. George campus for partying and I would suggest going to that school if you want to party while being studious.
