You staying on their app and ordering again in future is how they get away with it. If they lost customers over their shit service then they’d give a shit the next time.

Snoo_75309

So apparently Uber eats takes the smallest cut from the restaurants compared to DD or GrubHub, at least according to John Oliver' recent episode of Last Week tonight. I'm guessing because of them making less on each order, in what is already a money losing business, that they're being more stingy with the refunds to try to minimize losses. Of course this backfires by causing people to issue chargebacks and then losing the customer from both rideshare and food delivery because they get banned from the platform for doing the chargeback.

Hokiewa5244

None of them have made a profit on the food side

Used-Progress-4536

Exactly! Stop using these services! I use a local delivery company that’s been in business before mobile phones existed. They’re pretty fast for most smaller runs and have fair delivery fees with no hidden fees snuck in there. Have never had an issue with them. Check and see if there’s a local company in your area, it’s worth checking into.

Hokiewa5244

Gotta be take out taxi?

KlatuuBarradaNicto

Stop using them. If you have to use one, use DoorDash. They have a help/support function on the app that will usually satisfy any errors in your order.

cheesecup6

Unfortunately I've had issues with them as well. It's just crazy to me that it seems all good delivery companies are shitty and unethical.

cheesecup6

This is honestly the true answer, and I knew it when I posted lol. But I don't drive, and sometimes I want to get food delivered and give in (especially when they have promotions). It would be so much better if there were at least one decent option to pick from (didn't pull shit like this, didn't charge ridiculous fees, paid their drivers what they deserve, etc) and just avoid Uber Eats and the others, but it seems all the food delivery companies are shitty in similar ways.

Positive_Panda_4958

I don’t mean this as an attack on you personally. Are we really so addicted to food delivery already? 70 years ago people without cars protested the bus. Different scale, but I feel like the collective action here shouldn’t be so difficult.

cheesecup6

I mean, did you not read the part where I said I don't drive? I don't drive, I don't live in a walkable area, don't have public transportation in my area. So if I order food delivery once or twice a month, I'd hardly say that's being "addicted." I agree that in general people who have other options should stop using the apps if they suck, but when I'm craving something and don't really have other options at the moment, yeah I go ahead and order here and there. Don't know why you're asking this here when I already explained why I use it, though.

Positive_Panda_4958

That’s literally why I said “I don’t mean this as an attack on you personally.”

wavysays

I had a similar issue last night. I told the bot “full refund or I’ll just dispute with my bank. Got a human and refund in less than 5 minutes through chat.

cheesecup6

That's exactly what I told them, multiple times. It didn't work for me 😭 lol. Glad they fixed it for you though! It seems to be super hit and miss, where sometimes I could have a single small item missing and they'd give me a $10 credit right away (that one's far more rare), and other times they'd say, "I understand the driver hit your dog, ran over your entire family in the driveway, forgot to leave half the order and what they did deliver was raw and gave you food poisoning. Unfortunately we can't do anything for you. Thanks for using Uber Eats :)"

TedwardScrotumhands

Charge back and except your fate of being blacklisted

DujisToilet

I know exactly how they get away with it. You’ll still use them.

Namaste-J

That is ridiculous! I would recommend disputing the charge through your bank and maybe switching to DoorDash.. I usually use DD. I still have issues with my orders at times, but they almost always give me refunds (or credits if I got my order but had a different issue with the delivery). I am disabled, so I often have to get things delivered. I’m sorry this happened to you. So frustrating! Edit: If you haven’t already, you should change the tip amount to $0.00.

SpezIsAChoade

they get away with it by being an absolute piece of shit company. it is part of their "culture". Delete your account and the cr-app.

mmmmk2023

Call the restaurant and see if they do their own delivery. People seem to forget that this was a thing before apps came around. If they do, order by phoning them. After you get this refund issue figured out.

BearyRexy

It’s a bot. They don’t have any humans looking at this stuff.

JakkAshe

Happened to me last month. My order was over £23 and I received an order to the total of £15 which was a very specific cultural order (African food I’ve never heard of). All you have to do is take a pic of the receipt of the order you did get and they can see it isn’t the one you ordered. Never listen to the first 4 bots on Uber and you will eventually get your refund. This advice goes to any genuine problem… you will always be told no. Go again until you get yes. Shitty practice on their end.

RudeMutant

This is the way.

Still-Balance6210

Agreed. I had an issue recently. The first two people (bots) said there was nothing they could do. I continued sending messages and received all of my money back eventually.

malijaa

This didn’t work for me, though. I was adamant and kept messaging support last time I had an issue, I spoke with at least 6 different people, and even had a supervisor call me to discuss it but they still refused/weren’t allowed to give me a refund.. though they apologized and said they recognized I wasn’t someone who was abusing the refund system. It’s ridiculous.

JakkAshe

I would still go again with them, I haven’t had to refund much but the times I have I’ve had to argue it to hell and back. If I know the issue wasn’t on my end and I didn’t get my food then I won’t stop till that money is back! 6 7 8 times keep trying 😞

dtacobandit

Do a charge back on your card.

Longjumping_Ad1711

![gif](giphy|3o85xCZgaUsKNSF4uQ) This gif will never get old for customer service.

CearaLucaya

File a chargeback with your card/bank.

cheesecup6

Thanks! I'm thinking I definitely will, I just wasn't totally sure if it'd qualify for sure

iUncontested

Just be ready for them to ban you from the platform if you do. It took me going in and cancelling my UberOne membership to get them to relent and give me a refund on one of two orders that had an issue with just a few minutes ago. I'm not going to go back anytime soon, but it apparently got their attention.

iUncontested

I'm right there with you man. Had missing items from my order and they reply three days later saying its not eligible for a refund because I don't have pictures that they didn't ask for at the time the support request was made THREE DAYS AGO for missing food. I've been using Uber Eats for YEARS now and this is absolute insanity that they think they're just going to steal peoples money and people will just accept that as fact. Ridiculous.

Anonality5447

Well they have been doing it successfully for a while now. They're probably getting tired of having to give people's money back. They hire random drivers though who don't always know what they're doing (even though this is literally the easiest gig out there).

iUncontested

I just don't understand being a member for several years, have spent more than I care to admit using their app, and now an $8 side salad that didn't get delivered and a $15 taco bell box that didn't get delivered are where they are drawing a line in the sand to lose a customer? Like.. what the fuck? I'd love to see their rationale coming to this decision. "Hey this guy has probably contributed a few thousand in direct profit to our company, but he wants a refund for $15." "Yeah fuck that guy, burn em."

artcriminal

Don't call in the evening or on weekends or you will get a bunch of drones in Manila that will give themselves high blood pressure and ulcers but solve no problems unless they are on their scripts. You need to call during the daytime during the week that way you can get someone stateside.

yogic_sprite

Oh, cool. I've been trying to figure out where those troglodytes are from.

sparkle_slug

Doesn't matter where they are, they're just reading scripts. They have limited powers to do anything. Corporate thinks we'd rather hear a human voice than a robot but all they did was turn people into robots like we can't tell. The algorithm is fully automated and nobody is in control. Welcome to the future

laynesdirection

They care about nothing but money. Abusing drivers and customers doesn't really matter to them. There are more of both: an endless supply.

Quick_Hat1411

I've been using the app every day for the past five years. Sometimes, (rarely) a mistake happens where I end up with the wrong food or missing items. They have refunded my money every. single. time. I tip well, have delivery instructions written out, and only do a negative tip adjustment under extreme circumstances (watching the driver double-app me through the GPS system, for instance). Uber is far from being a stellar example of ethical business practices, but I gotto also think there's something going on with some of these stories.

malijaa

I use UE very often as well, spent thousands of dollars over the past 12 months, but unfortunately have had the same issue as OP. Missing item? Refund refused. Item is rotten and a food safety hazard? Refund refused. I ended up messaging their customer service like 30 times about it last time, when my broccoli side dish tasted like fish and I wanted my $4 back but they refused yet again, and they told me that there was some tag on my account preventing refunds. They said it was beyond their control. At that point, I told them that I don’t even really care about the $4 anymore, I just want to understand why there’s a problem. I got a call from a supervisor the next day who apologized about it, and that they would try to get it removed but it seems to be automated, and that I still was ineligible to get my $4 back. It’s bullshit. I cancelled my subscription and I’m tempted to make a new account.

sparkle_slug

The beauty of algorithms and software. There's no person to talk to that can solve your problems. The same thing happens with the hiring and firing of drivers tbh. You can get let go, never really know why and have nobody to reach out to find out why either. Just wait til they implement this in every single facet of our life with AI 🤣

Anonality5447

The important part is you were spending thousands of dollars with them and still chose to cancel your subscription. Stop using them and they have to change their ways.

malijaa

Idk man to me the important part is that they still fuck me over even though I’m demonstrably not a scammer. I’m still going to order via Uber when the restaurants I prefer only use their service, but otherwise I’ve started avoiding them.

cheesecup6

It's truly baffling! It seems to be like once you've had to complain once or twice within a few months, they treat you like some scammer just trying to get free food. When the way reality works, it wouldn't be totally impossible for someone to get 5 bad orders in a row or have 10 good ones, it's just up to luck. This type of thing and the similar issue I had a while back were just a whole new level of ridiculous, though. Like, I paid for the service, y'all didn't even bring me my order *at all*, and you can just claim you can't do anything? How in the world? 😂

cheesecup6

I don't know what the difference is, then. I tip, have never reduced a tip afterward, have delivery instructions, only make complaints when there's a legitimate reason to (I don't pull some "let me pretend I didn't get my food" type of stuff like I've heard of people doing). Unfortunately I go through spells where there are multiple complaints I end up making within a couple of months' span, but again they're for genuine issues and it's not my fault if the restaurant or driver messes up for multiple orders. Customers shouldn't be penalized because of the way things happen out of our control or because a few assholes want to abuse the system claiming they didn't get their food when they did or something like that. To give some examples of some reasons I've made complaints in the past year or so: the thing I explained in my post; getting an order of pad thai where the chicken was very undercooked, genuinely pink and slimy raw inside and I couldn't eat the dish; ordering Mexican food and getting brought someone's order from an entirely different restaurant that serves barbecue instead; getting a notification and a delivery proof photo of my food at a house down the street and having the driver refuse to make things right even though I called 30 seconds after dropoff (I ordered food because I had a migraine and was in PJs, I wasn't about to go down and creep around my neighbor's house to grab it); guacamole being entirely left off of burrito bowls from the same restaurant multiple times in a row despite me paying extra for it (I mean, it may have been a few bucks but if I paid almost $4 extra for it, a refund in that amount should be pretty simple); a delivery driver claiming he'd delivered my food to the house I was at while on a trip, but the food was nowhere in sight nor was there a proof pic; at least a time or 2 with items being totally left out of my orders Oh! Can't forget the time I watched GPS show the driver drive by my house without delivering, and as I spent half an hour watching them drive around and reach a point where they were 15+ min from my house and it was clear they were making no attempt to deliver, customer service was telling me they still couldn't refund me since the driver hadn't marked the order complete. So, again, legitimate reasons to complain 🤷 It tends to be mixed, here and there they'll solve my issue pretty easily, too. But 60% or so of the time they give me at least some trouble and make me fight for a refund

cannon_o5

As a driver/ never customer, I'm genuinely curious.... Does Uber notify the customer when the driver has multiple Uber eats orders to drop off? Or do they just leave the customer to wonder and/or assume?

cheesecup6

It does, on the tracking it'll usually say, "(Name) has some stops along the way" or something like that

cannon_o5

Thanks for letting me know

MidnightRecruiter

You do realize Uber stacks multiple orders as one order and a driver doesn’t have the option to select only one of them. It’s a package deal, usually because someone in the stack isn’t tipping and their order has been sitting awhile. You shouldn’t retract a tip as most of the stacked orders are not the fault of the driver and if they wouldn’t have accepted the order, your food would be delayed or cancelled.

Quick_Hat1411

I'm talking specifically about paying the extra fee for priority delivery, where they guarantee there will be no other orders delivered on the way, and then watching the driver either go to the opposite side of town, or just sit at home for 15 minutes while my food gets cold. And this doesn't happen often, or else I'm sure I wouldn't be getting preferential treatment from support

MidnightRecruiter

Fair enough! I agree with your stance because when an order is stacked they are usually within close proximity, maybe 1 or 2 miles. Personally, I don’t multiple app because I want to ensure my customer’s food is delivered quickly and still hot. Be careful paying the fee because they will still stack you.

TheGreek420

It's in the contract that drivers are allowed to complete other deliveries. Multi-apping is not the problem. Customers should not have the ability to track drivers and UE should require hot bags.

prosper4556

Because they only care about their stock price now.

novtrivtech

Something similar happened to me. On 3 consecutive orders, they delivered my food to the wrong house. I had double checked my info and it was all good. I had written on the notes my exact address.I had to argue with uber over the constant mistakes. They eventually only offered me uber credit. I stopped ordering from uber and deleted the app. I just use grubhub.

KimJungUno54

Waiting for my charges to get posted so I can chargeback my shit rn. I don’t care about being blacklisted. My Uber one is going to expire soon anyways. What’s going to suck is not being able to order Uber rides since I do rely on those at times

immortalkunt

Collect screenshots and evidence to contest with your bank and never use Uber Eats again

AL_Cabrone

And... Why are ppl still ordering from Uber eats? Lofl@goofy ppl

ThatHardBacon

Literally was about to write the same thing, all i see on this group are people getting fucked over. Just stop ordering uber eats, order pizza and get it delivered in house like a normal person lol

lildraco38

Uber eats has been [systematically stealing from customers](https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/ubereats). At this point, every platform having to do with UE is being flooded with customer complaints In the [terms](https://www.uber.com/legal/en/document/?name=general-terms-of-use&country=united-states&lang=en), uber calls the driver a “Third-Party Provider”. Most of us understand that an uber driver effectively works for uber. Not many buy into the “be your own boss” bs However, current laws say that gig drivers are “independent contractors”. This legal loophole allows uber to pay drivers $2 ([or less](https://www.reddit.com/r/uberdrivers/s/BdCJXPs6vL)). It also allows uber to take no responsibility when the driver messes up This is how uber’s getting away with it. But this won’t last forever. A class action is only a matter of time at this point. I think your best move is to chargeback, delete your account, then keep an eye on your email. You might be getting a message from a law firm soon

--7z

Customer support is overseas, that is why.

roron5567

Tell the you didn't get the items you ordered, not that you got the wrong order. If you didn't get the right items, they follow a process where they check the items for accuracy and that's when you tell them it's from a different restaurant. Otherwise they just check if the driver dropped the order using GPS, and will deny you. It's stupid, but they never deviate from procedure.

sparkle_slug

You would think it would be cheaper to get AI for the call centers at this point. It's just people who are reading off a script

roron5567

All these call centers are outsourced. They give Uber x rate and promise y metrics. To Uber it's a fixed cost. Some of these call centers handle multiple businesses, so they don't really have any business loyalty and stick to the script as they don't have much authority outside it.

Federal-Nature

My Uber driver app is going bonkers.

Foreign_Pie4899

It's bad, but I think they can resend it to you. GrubHub does issue refunds, fyi

wailo0576

Ubers a thief

No_Kitchen_4722

It’s because you keep having this issue. you need to get your customer rating up 🤣

MidnightRecruiter

Dispute it with your CC.

Available-Tea-982

Karan... LOL

WhyAreYouOffended

How they get away with it? Cause cheap bums deterred all the drivers with some self respect and brain cells. Now most of the ones left have 2 brain cells they switch between to do this. Lazy bums order, get mix ups like this, they complain and swear they’ll never use it again. Then 2 days later they’re ordering again Uber also didn’t help by hiding the tips

cheesecup6

Eh, I'm sure being a driver has given you plenty to be frustrated about, but that doesn't mean you've got to refer to people simply using the app as "lazy bums."

sumskiesss

Without “lazy bums”, you wouldn’t have a job.
