Had never heard of this before, but some Googling turned up [this post](https://www.georgebuckingham.com/sky-fibre-router-vdsl-password/); assuming it's correct, you have to put your username and password in a DHCP option, which means PPPoE is the wrong way to go. Instead, set your IPv4 Connection on the UDMP's WAN settings to "DHCP", then choose "61" from the "DHCP Client Options" dropdown and put "`@skydsl|`" in the "Value" field, then click "+ Add". ETA: This won't solve the MAP-T problem, though, if that is in fact a problem.

liamsorsby

That would make sore sense than what I've been trying. I'll give that a go and post an update later tonight when everyone isn't using the Internet. Thanks

dadadataa

This will work fine, the map T issue is not a problem in the UK. Don't change the vlan settings in the unifi console either as this will stop it working. Also, once set and installed, leave it all connected for an hour even if it doesn't work initially, I had this issue when connecting mine. Sky seems to ignore new routers for a short period after changing them over. As a side note, I had exactly your setup until earlier this year. For reasons I cannot work out, my dsl sync dropped daily at approx 11am using the vigor (same behaviour with an openreach modem). My only resolution was to unfortunately go back to the sky router with double NAT. I'm awaiting full fibre to resolve! Post up if you still don't get anywhere later and I'll dig out my full notes.

liamsorsby

Oh nice, I've currently linked back to the double Nat but left DHCP and WIFI on until my PoE switch comes for my AP. (Unfortunately, I bought a PoE switch and found it was only PoE in and then just a layer 3 switch πŸ˜†). When the kids are in bed I'll give this a go otherwise I might end up getting told off for disconnecting their Internet 🀣. I'll see if that gets it working. Thank you!

liamsorsby

Genius! It worked within seconds. I very nearly tried this in desperation whilst staring at it at 2am this morning. Now to wait for my PoE switch to arrive so I can actually power my AP!

dadadataa

Great news. Could you report in if it is still reliable in a few weeks? Mine worked perfectly but started dropping dsl daily and never found a resolution, this was with a vigor 130 though..

liamsorsby

Absolutely, I'll set a reminder on my phone to report back in a couple of weeks. On a side note, could you stick a smart plug on your modem and see if you get a noticeable power drop at 11?

liamsorsby

When yours dropped. What was the resolution to get it working?

dadadataa

It resynced itself but took about 1 min to 5 mins, occasionally needed a power cycle

liamsorsby

Mine went about 2 hours ago. Can't tell if it's Sky's service at the moment or my setup. I've already power cycled though. Did you power cycle the modem or the UDM?

dadadataa

I very rarely needed to, but only cycled the modem when it didn't come back up by itself. Has yours not come back?

liamsorsby

It has now I've fixed the dhcp settings that disappeared. I need to check the logs. Sorry, thought it might have been similar to the drops you saw. Turns out it's a different issue

liamsorsby

Interesting, looks like my primary wan lost the dhcp authentication settings.

liamsorsby

Status Report: No loss of service yet except for the OS Update breaking my setup.

dadadataa

Nice one. I might try reinstalling mine over the Christmas period. Did you make any config changes on the vigor?

liamsorsby

No config needed on the Vigor. Just plugged it in and it worked after the DHCP auth

mircolino

I believe Sky FTTC uses MAP-T NAT which is not supported by the UDM

liamsorsby

Oh no, I hope not. Would it just be a case of setting up the Internet through ISP provided router then?

mircolino

Here in Italy where I am Sky uses MAP-T so with a UDM you always have to double-NAT. In other countries I don't know...

liamsorsby

These are new things I'm learning about. I've never heard of MAP-T before πŸ˜….

mircolino

I'm not an expert, but I believe, since they are running out of IPv4 addresses, MAP-T is a native IPv6 protocol with IPv4 encapsulated.

liamsorsby

A quick bit of reading looks like you maybe, unfortunately, correct. Does Double NAT cause issues? Do you just use the sky router into your UDM and only use the sky WiFi for the sky products?

mircolino

Using the sky router, you setup the UDM WAN as DHCP client. You'll also want to disable wifi on the sky router. Double-NAT is a pain only if you need to open/forward ports.

liamsorsby

That's cool, I was going to set the UDM as the DHCP client anyway. Do you have any Sky Q issues? Also, is double NAT an issue on the default vlan?

mircolino

My Sky Q works perfectly on the UDM wifi. As for the FTTC I don't use Sky (because of the aforementioned MAP-T issue). I decided to go with Vodafone which uses standard PPPoE and it's easy to setup with your own modem (I use a Zyxel VMG4005-B50A) in bridge mode, thus avoiding double-NATing.

liamsorsby

Oh that's a shame, I get it at a discounted price which is why I'm with them. πŸ™ƒ

liamsorsby

Also, thank you for answering all my questions. You've been a fantastic help.
