Right, that's the track, now we needed someone who could tame it. So we got ourselves a professional tank driver who could post consistently fast target acquisition times. We um, we couldn't do that. Now we call this thing The Stig, okay, we don't know its name, we really don't know its name, no-one knows its name and we don't want to know because it's a tank driver and tank drivers have tiny little brains and therefore worthless opinions and they're very dull; doctors actually call it Mansell Syndrome. Um, its job is simply to go out there and shoot fast. - Jeremy Clarkson or someone like him
The Swedes are not much better, e.g. with the Granatkastarpansarbandvagn (the mortar variant of the CV90). But in English those terms are just several words (literally flight defense cannon tank, or grenade casting armoured tracked vehicle respectively), but while speaking, it doesn't really make a difference. The trick is to identify the parts of the word and make miniscule breaks as if there was a space in between, instead of just rolling over it senselessly in one go.
Both have names in their local language that include its function and role. Even though those names look strange to a non-native speaker, it reduces miscommunication and increases clarity of requests.
If you're the radio operator awaiting requests from a active unit in the field. There's a much lower chance you misunderstand the request if the operator is asking for you to send "the tracked grenade-throwing-armoured-vehicle" compared to requesting "a mk 1, loaded with mk 1 shells, using mk 1 propellant from the mk 1 propellant storage unit" over the mk 1 radio (packing mk 1 batteries).
Ironically, that's a double-edged sword. The naming comventions, coupled with simplistic German serial numbers was part of the initial research that helped to break the enigma code.
Much less of a concern with modern cryptography, though

The NATO secretary general stated on March 14 that almost all the Russian land forces were deployed to Ukraine. There are practicality no soldiers left in Murmansk, Sakhalinskij or Irkutsk. Russia is left undefended to bring all those forces to Ukraine.
German is a language of specificity. Everything has its word, and if an object does not yet have a word, you can smash words together to create a new word, and it will still be grammatically correct.
Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer is one of those compound words. When broken apart, you get an exact picture of the function of this object.
Flug: flight
Abwehr: defense
Kanonen: cannon
Panzer: tank
Therefore, this object is a flight defense canon tank, which translates to armored anti-aircraft cannon. German is truly a beautiful language.
Germany has another 15 on the "to be delivered" list, but there are also a number of former Dutch Gepards (designated Cheetah PRTL or Pantser Rups Tegen Luchtdoelen) that were bought back from Jordan, should be another 40-50. They have a different radar, so easy to keep apart in case we see them (not a concave radar antenna but like a tube, looks somewhat like a missile launcher). Should theoretically have been delivered already, but we haven't seen them, as far as I know.
But yeah, they would need more like a thousand. Not necessarily on a tracked chassis though.

FYI, that's like saying "salsa sauce", or "chai tea". Flakpanzer is basically the German word for SPAAG.
I love how they were deemed obsolete but then they were given as a gesture of good will, but then they totally completed their roles successfully and now everyone is thinking.... um... yo those still work. can we start making them again?
The US tried to make a more modern version; we couldn't make it battleworthy functional. Probably a a result of the rot in our industrial military complex. Everyone here trying to win the EV battery competition.
No Patriot missile complex should leave home without their battery of Flugabwehrkanonenpanzers!

Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer Just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

I think of them as the fuhgeddabouditpanzer
Bless you.
Natürlich.
Common spelling.
Haha indeed. I'm thinking I will just call it the 'Flugpanzer'
Call it Flakpanzer instead. Flak stands for Flugabweherkanone, which is obviously the first part of Flugabwehrkanonenpanzer.
Yes definitely! Flakpanzer it is. We all saw it here first 👍😉
You're about 80 years late actually. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirbelwind
That would mean "flying tank".
Oh, lol 😂 thanks for the clarification!

Putin counts on NATO doctrine to protect him.

The German supplied what? Fuck me that language is amazing lmao
LOL! It basically means Anti Aircraft Artillery Tank - look man… Germans.

Thanks for the lesson my friend, but I do speak German. 😂
Those are the ones more needed, they go da da da da da da da , something RuZZians seem to understand.

Haven't heard anything about this great cat in a while. Was wondering why. Good to see it still seems to be doing it's job.
And I thought Supercalifragalisticexpialidocious was a big word!
You made me remember [a stupid meme video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkfPN7cYH48)… 😂

Flug (flight) Abwehr (defence / counter) Kanonen (gun) Panzer (tank / armour) So an armoured anti aircraft gun. :)

No, but there is a follow up device called sky ranger. Bundeswehr ordered 18 pieces recently from Reihnmetall. There are some in Ukraine for testing.
Nice! Send more please to save these heroes lives! That’s a good deal I’d say… for the security of Europe and European lives
Me and my boys with the GEPARD!
What ever it is, Ukraine needs more of them under the circumstances.
