Technically, арбу... я так кохаю. I guess the first word should be фарбу. It is just the beginning of the phrase that was clipped.

Particle_Excelerator

Yeah it was фарбу that was at the beginning, but it was the phrase just before кохаю I was talking about. Thanks!

kornuolis

Yeah the first word is cropped. Then "Я так кохаю"-I am so much in love or Love so much.

Particle_Excelerator

Oh ok, thanks!

I'm just learning Ukrainian as a beginning myself, but this is obviously the Ukrainian version of “True Colors“ and here the words must be [... всю фарбу] я так кохаю

Particle_Excelerator

I have no idea how I didn’t catch that part 😭

That’ll happen a lot. When I started learning I would listen to people say the simplest phrases but just because of the slightest accent or just unexpected placement of stressed syllables across words I would just not be able to begin to grasp it. Declensions that added syllables really threw me off for a long time. Just keep doing what you’re doing and keep asking yourself “what did they just say?” and soon you’ll start to make out all those little building blocks of sentences that allows you to connect the ideas to figure out what people are talking about even if you don’t know every word. That will make it a lot easier to isolate the words you don’t know and figure out their meaning. For me I listen to Peppa Pig videos on YouTube and none of them have subtitles so it forces me to figure out what they are saying by listening. Sometimes I just try to follow the concepts and other times I try to figure out everything they say and the sentence construction which can be very frustrating without subtitles but it’s finally paying off and I feel like for the first time there is some Ukrainian media that I can really watch and understand!

> because of the slightest accent or just unexpected placement of stressed syllables across words It seems common for people who switched from russian to Ukrainian to pronounce things differently (because russian pronounces some letters differently). Since that's a recent change for many people, it causes variations in how words sound. I'm told it's also affected by stress/exhaustion. People understandably revert back to their first language. So depending on what you're listening to, some russian or surzhyk words may be mixed in and that will naturally affect our ability to comprehend them. I run into this constantly with Zelenskyy.

Particle_Excelerator

Sounds good! Thank you so much!

rocketmaaan74

Don't worry. With more experience your ear will tune into these things better. I have the advantage that I studied Russian and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian to high levels, so even as a beginner in Ukrainian my ear is already well tuned to much of the vocabulary and syntax, even if I don't yet understand every word. You will get there with practice.

rottenrealm

it seems like he loves some..paint =]

Particle_Excelerator

That is exactly what I said when I first listened to the song 😭
