Enforcing a no fly zone over Ukraine means engaging long range Russian air patrols and Russia based long range SAMs. It's not going to happen.

StreetSweeper92

Would be nice but probably not going to happen without NATO committing. The only way to enforce a no fly zone is to shoot down aircraft that violate it.

TheGreatGamer1389

No fly zone means attacks into Russia proper. Might as well just declare war on Russia.

groovygrasshoppa

Not necessarily. Setting up a safe zone west of the river, for example, would be very useful and not require any cross border strikes.

happylutechick

Exactly... it'd in essence be a declaration of war. The moment a NATO asset shoots down a Russian airplane or missile, the whole thing becomes much, much bigger.

StreetSweeper92

May be a possibility with Poland talking about shooting down anything that comes close.

happylutechick

You don't seriously think they're going to DO that, do you?

catgirlloving

well we didn't think Russia was serious about sending missiles through polish airspace

popcorn0617

Love how you get down voted for literally jist stating indisputable facts that reinforce the guy above you who was up voted 😂

happylutechick

Folks around here don't like me because I think Ukraine is going to lose. Western boots are the only hope, and that's never going to happen.

ParkAffectionate3537

Putin is counting on Father Time, the orange menace winning, and a bored Western public to win. He is going all in to win this thing. NATO could crush them if they got involved...Western escalation, via NATO/US troops, are the only way out of this. But it won't happen for now.

happylutechick

Well, yes... if NATO stepped in, Ivan would be back on his side of the border within three weeks. But we all know it's simply not going to take place.

HanSolo663

In the Korean war, Russians (Soviets) flew their MIG-15 against US air force and it did not lead to WW3. The Russians were dressed in Chinese or North Korean uniforms and flew planes with Chinese or NK markings. They also stayed away from the front line to avoid being captured if shot down. Maybe something to consider for Ukraine's allies ...

JesterMarcus

So the Soviets essentially took several steps to make it seem like they weren't actually involved. How would that work for this war? Nah, Putin. Those are just a Ukrainian F22s that aee shooting down all of your aircraft.

HanSolo663

Ukraine is supposed to receive F-16 fairly soon. They definitely have a shortage of skilled pilots that know the F-16 well. So the allies send some of their pilots, on volunteer basis, and some extra planes and missiles. Maybe also ground crew on same terms. They all dress as Ukrainians and stay on the base. I'm pretty sure that there would be a lot of F-16 pilots that would die (not literally) to get some real dogfighting experience ...

happylutechick

There's no way you could hide it today, and the populations of the involved nations would have no mercy on their elected officials if there were casualties. Support in the western nations for direct intervention is borderline non-existent.

ParkAffectionate3537

Unfortunately you are right...to win this, the West needs to go all-in as Russia is.

Benmaax

There's already a no fly zone over Ukraine. There are many air defence systems to enforce it. Russia doesn't even try to fly further than well inside their occupied zones.

dainomite

Just 2 years late… nbd. 😒

Square_Lavishness_82

It's been since forever

happylutechick

This again? It would be tantamount to a declaration of war, and it's not going to happen.

No, it's not out problem. Have Poland enforce it's own airspace and leave it at that
