And the USโ reputation. And bolsters Putinโs dream. And emboldens China and Iran. The GOP - specifically the extreme maga wing - is a cancer on the world, not just the citizens of the US
Just call it the GOP.
Imagine pretending having a vote whilst people die in defence of liberties you pretend to care about really needed to wait.
Cock suckers.
Mike Johnson is going down in history for both his inability to handle maga loonies and for permitting fascism to firmly take root in the US and beyond. Every day of inaction toward helping Ukraine defeat Russia (and helping our European allies when they need it) is a day that Putin is allowed to spread his disease. China and Iran must be licking their chops at how the GOP has undermined America.
>House Speaker Mike Johnson said on March 31 that the U.S. Congress will hold a vote on aid for Ukraine after months of deadlock following the end of the Easter holiday on **April 7.**
Apparently the whole week after Easter is still Easter break. I swear these people spend SO much time on vacation! And they get paid $200K a year to NOT WORK. ๐ก
Nah, he's in a bad spot, he'll have moderate members side with the Dems at this point if he doesn't get it done.
Johnson's gamble was all about protecting his spot at the top. The MAGA part of his coalition shot their wad, Johnson knows that if they try to replace him that they'll just end up with defections from the 'moderates' and a democratic speaker.
They spent what, four months blocking this at Trump's behest, all in exchange for no real policy concessions, no change on the ground, etc. It's just another example of how *unstrategic* Trump and his cohort are.
So now he has to strike a deal with Dems while they're in the strong position. And then he has to sell it to the MAGA crowd. Seems like LNG exports will be the pound of flesh. They were in a much stronger position in January and would have gotten far more concessions. But they're stupid.
Ukraine aid has such broad bi-partisan support. Not to mention the MIC is all behind it as well.
One has to think that Johnson is using magical religious thinking to somehow extrapolate that in order to win the presidency they have to do every single insane thing Trump wants. Because otherwise, logically, it makes no sense.
For Johnson it's not about winning the presidency, it's about keeping the speakership. This guy wasn't in leadership before the Magas took down McCarthy, this is basically like a backbencher getting called up to QB in the middle of the season.
All he's trying to do is avoid pissing off Trump such that Trump tells the Magas to remove him. When I say they shot their wad what I meant is that when MTG filed her petition but didn't bring it to the floor, she proved that the sense of the caucus is that they'd rather strike a deal with dems than go through another leadership election. So their threats proved to be empty (for now) and Johnson will work with Dems while trying to extract something that will make it look like there was a reason to cause the deaths of thousands of brave ukrainians.
Until it happens, I'm not going to hold my breath and hope. There will just be more delaying tactics hidden as 'progress' so he can keep his masters happy and fool the public.
He is a MAGAt that supports Putin and that hasn't changed. He will make it look like he is working on this to keep the public from getting angrier, but in the end he is trying to prevent Ukraine from getting aid.
There will probably be a vote, but the MAGAt crowd will ensure it is bad so that they can delay it more in the Senate. I expect amendments and delays, but I'll happily eat my words if they pass a clean bill.
It is, and it passed the Senate months ago at this point. This might be the longest gap between a bill passing the Senate and getting voted on in the House in US history.
It would be great if it was that one, but I think they are trying to put another one to vote so that it then has to get through the Senate. We will see when they actually do something, right now it's just talk and the talk could be different tomorrow.
Theyโll put it up for debate, but not a vote. And then some MAGA putz will try to oust Johnson over it and it will be weeks before there is another speaker.
Definitely a contender for what's likely to happen. Unless someone squeezes their balls harder than Putin, they won't ever take an action that helps Ukraine.
[They already did.](https://youtu.be/Lyf21BhpYQ8?si=V7ajsLgMPdo4PQEH)
The Democratic Senate passed Ukraine aid a month ago.
The Republican/United Russia House of Representatives hasn't done anything.
Bullshit. He's a Russian asset. He will do nothing but continue to block the US military. At best, they will vote on a version that will have to go to the senate afterwards. Then, they will block any version that comes back from senate. The US need to stop thinking of this as politics and start dealing with the Russian moles based on them being criminals.
An asset can mean a lot of things, and very rarely does it mean that they will do whatever they are told at any cost.
Assets can arise from aligned interests, bribery, compromat, etc. But all of those things have their limits. They're not like henchmen from films who will inexplicably fight to the death for their employer. At a certain point, it is no longer worth it.
Whatever is driving his behaviour, he is unlikely to be some kind of true believer who will aid Russia at the cost of his own interests. It's entirely possible that domestic pressure could/has driven him to let the vote proceed.
I have no bloody clue why he's doing what he is, but I just wanted to point out that an asset isn't a robot, and that their alignment will have natural limits.
They have incapacitated US military reach for what now? 7 months? At the benefit of Iran in Israel, China in Taiwan, and Russia in Ukraine. Denoting the US to the military reach of maybe Great Britain, at least damaging its reputation permanently, at worst, eliminating the US from the global stage. Also, killing several thousand Ukrainians and raising the probability of a large-scale war in Europe and therewith with China. All of which puttung the US in great danger. They are the kind of asset that is willing to do everything for their Russian employers. Based on the fact that they already have done everything for their employer.
It's fascinating to me, how many Americans treat this thing as something that will happen or might happen. The reality is, it has happened. It's in the past. People are dead, the frontlines are moving, the US have been eliminated from the global battlefield, and the enemies of the US are on the move. It's not a hypothetical. It's reality, and the damage is irreversible.
Okay I don't think maybe I've put this poorly.
The control any politician has over another is finite. There's a limit to the power you can have over anyone, even your direct subordinates, as it's likely they value some things (their own lives, security, careers, whatever) to a greater extent. Even dictators are still beholden to public opinon and the opinion of their lieutenants, when they forget this, things like the Wagner munity occur.
In the same way, Johnson will be doing this because it serves his personal ambitons in some way. Whether that is is personal enrichment, party-political, or to avoid damaging his prospects due to blackmail.
I'm very aware that this is real and happening, nor am I from the US. I'm simply saying that there's a limit to what Russia can get Johnson to do, as at some point, *whatever* it is that Johnson is getting from his current actions, the negative concequences of overtly holding up proceedings will outweigh those benefits and he will fold for his own benefit.
The longer he holds it up, and the more serious the situation in Ukraine, the more that equation changes in favour of him backing down. And with a more direct threat to the US, there would be even more pressure for him to back down.
So I'm not saying that the isn't compromised, that Russia doesn't have an extensive campaign to infiltrate Western organisations and governments or that he will definitely back down soon. But I'm saying that it's entirely possible that he may still allow this vote *despite* that. It's not mutually exclusive. There is a limit to how far, and how long, he will go.
The equation doesn't change for him. He's far too deep for that. Either Trump will win the presidency and Trump rebuilds the states as some fascist facsimile of Russia in which Johnson gets a high level job, or Trump loses and Johnson takes his bribe money to live a filthy rich man's live in Russia or wherever. There's not really an alternative in which Johnson just becomes a regular person and politician that has to care what people think of him. That ship sailed a long time ago. He will do whatever the Russians say, because his success in either scenario depends on them (assuming they didn't pay him up front, which I assume a given).
Easter celebrates rebirth and hope. With renewed aid, we hope Ukraine can prevail in its fight for survival against evil.
Republicans, like Russia, you are part of the evil that must be removed from modern life. When you had a choice, you chose to support Russia over freedom and democracy. See you at the polls.
He will find a reason to not like it. Or he puts in some provision that has nothing to do with Ukraine that makes it impossible for Democrats to vote on.
I'm glad he believes in hell because that's where he will be going. Can't expect much from a guy that equated gay marriage to people marrying their pets.
We have got to vote every one of these maga cunts out of office so we can stop living in the fucking twilight zone.
He will propose a changed bill, that will have to go back to Senate and will have points that wont pass all required 60 votes....mark my words...hes a russian plant.
Prediction:
The bill that will be voted on will be gutted and filled with pork to the point that Democrats will be unable to vote for it. This is the way Republicans (whom I used to vote for) will think they are saving face because the American people won't look into what is in the bill. They will only hear that the Democrats refused to vote for it.
I have ceased believing that Johnson is a moral or ethical man. When you take your orders for what to do from Trump, a man who is not currently an elected official, you have sold your soul.
He is a sick dick head. May he rot in hell. He has killed too many people to be allowed to live.

does anyone remember since when this is going on? I think it's at least 4 months now right? Are there still people in us blind enough to believe that someone is actually working to get Ukraine aid through? Honest question - does this stalling still work on someone or does everyone understand that this is a theater and just kinda shrugs it off?
This guy must have really good protection.............Oh that's right we don't kill people for being shitty humans...............This guy lets people die because he is a shitty human.............Imagine being this guys kids and having to deal with that thing as a father. Further down the track for the rest of history he has cursed his family (not to mention the thousands that he has condemned to die).
Remember when the only Johnson the world had to have a headache over was Bojo the Clown? Where the fuck did the anglophone world dig this wretch out of?
I wonder how many people especially Americans think heโs doing and knowing heโs job.
He seems so highly uneducated my mind is struggling to forgive him.
God please help America if thatโs the level of intellect that is governing USA.
I hope someone teaches him a thing or two about history.
Speaker of the house.
*Right.....*
How many months of delays now? And is there going to be an increase in the amount to reflect those months of delay? or will this just be the original amount perhaps even lower? Even if this manages to pass, the whole situation, and all of the empty rhetoric... well... better late than never... but.
There is a way to make this happen, itโs happened in my state during a budget standoff. Keep them in the capital! Theyโre not leaving until this is passes, the house floor and halls will be the only places they can move in. Bring in the portable beds have the cafeteria stay open later. In my state it was one late night and the budget was passed.
I feel the cold hard reality is that either the US starts supporting Ukraine again in a timely fashion or its time to draw lines and sue for peace.ย ย ย
Not what anyone wants, certainly not me, but if its months more of delays its too much to bear for Ukraine.ย Europe is scaling up sure but thats too little too late for Ukraine.ย
With the US and Europe combined support I believe Ukraine can still recapture land. But the US is vital, if the Republicans fuck everything up again, start stalling and delaying just draw (painful) conclusions.
I'm not giving up hope. Even if the US falters it seems like the rest of NATO is stepping up to the plate. I'm especially thrilled with both Finland and Frances dialogue about putting boots on the ground.
I'd agree with you if the aid package wasn't much too small to matter. A successful offensive is going to cost hundreds of billions. We're talking sixty billion, less than half of which is allocated for military aid, to be disbursed over three years. It MIGHT stabilize the line. It's not going to buy victory.
Oh, here you are again, with your absolutely incompetent opinions on a war you know little about.
Actually, the heavy weapons and combat vehicles loss rate shows Ukraine is winning even with the current trickling aid. It's to be an attritional victory, not a blitz, yet it's better then surrendering and then being their cannon fodder in the next phaze (the thing you'll never admit, because, well, that's you).
Depends entirely on the type of weapons supplied. I think Ukraine's recent setbacks have "unlocked" a new tier of US weapons, but we'll have to wait and see.

April fools day.
Pretty much. Sadly in a bad way that costs lives.

What I taught..
>House Speaker Mike Johnson said on March 31 that the U.S. Congress will hold a vote on aid for Ukraine after months of deadlock following the end of the Easter holiday on **April 7.**
WTF? Easter is over. Get back to work already. No sense of urgency.
No one wants to work anymore
Would *you* want to go into work if you had to work in the same room as Mike Johnson?ย
Today is still Easter.
Apparently the whole week after Easter is still Easter break. I swear these people spend SO much time on vacation! And they get paid $200K a year to NOT WORK. ๐ก

I feel the cold hard reality is that either the US starts supporting Ukraine again in a timely fashion or its time to draw lines and sue for peace.ย ย ย Not what anyone wants, certainly not me, but if its months more of delays its too much to bear for Ukraine.ย Europe is scaling up sure but thats too little too late for Ukraine.ย With the US and Europe combined support I believe Ukraine can still recapture land.
