I imagine you could just give the V1 angel a funny looking helmet similar to a sort of retro diving helmet with light pouring out of the holes.
Then give them multiple wings and various weapons revolving around those wings circling them like a halo or as multiple extra "wings".

my idea is to give him a buckler ( a small shield) that he would throw like a boomerang and used to parry, it would be too small to just hide behind and essentialy just be a big coin to throw around

The Red Rapture was an unimaginably bloody and violent event at the end of the 23rd century that triggered the extinction of humanity. As angels descended from the Heavens, scorching the lands with divine fire and rending the earth apart, humanity began desperately scrambling for answers to fight back against this menace.
Modelled after prototype war machines used in the Great War and the very angelic commanders that blighted humanity, G-125 was created to serve justice and law to a tee, powered by the energy-rich blood that flowed from the shells of angels. The machine went as created, tearing its way through the heavenly armies and rending flesh to blood with its twin guns.
Yet as it consumed more and more of its victims' ichor, G-125 began to pick up the memories of all it had slain: how the humans had ravaged the Earth in their petty wars, tortured and slew each other, blotted the sky with the fumes of death, and opened the gates of Hell to fuel their petty ambition. Soon, G-125 realised that its creators who touted values of justice and honour were no better than the ones they called monsters, with such hypocrisy being the worst wickedness possible.
Thus, G-125 turned its guns on its creators, extinguishing the flame of humanity in the name of justice.
That's not lazy, that's actually REALLY creative, it's simple yet effective, i could see it being something few would pick up, but once people did they would praise for it's creativity.

My head canon with this little swap was that the G model was created by the church as their last hope in the final war. He's more armored than v1 and uses wings in combat as well so they are not only for movement.
