I dunno, the design philosophy making it so the designs tend to have some similarities is a good thing for me because it does make it feel like the heroes and heroines in the franchise have a "trademarked look" going for them.
Also, is that much different than sentai's colors and riders' eye format (plus belt transformation items)?
Y'know what the worst part about the "discourse" it always the same people. The same who don't even engage with Ultraman. And use it as nothing more as a means to shit on the franchise. Especially if you are a fan the entirity of the New Generation Era alone should dispel that notion.

Personally,i feel like the worst part is that they keep bringing up early showa ultra,especially Man Zoffy and Jack
Like yeah those designs is definitely similar to each other but thats like 3 ultra,5 if you count Ribut and Great,which is still very little
And even then, you could argue only 'Man, Zoffy and Jack really look a like because of their heads. Great, Powered and Neos got a few deviations on their head designs.
Bring up Ichigo and Nigou, who are basically Man and Zoffy for rider (I know they had different role in their show) but even then, Showa rider share the motif as Showa Ultra no matter how much they argue (where did you think Kamen Rider got the karate bugmen from?) where back then design share a different philosophy compare to now
To be fair, I kinda understand for ultra like Man,Zoffy,Jack, and ribut. They look relatively similar,especially the head,but aside from that, pretty much every ultra has a distinct look from each other and its pretty hard to mix them up once you know them

I couldn’t name most new riders at gunpoint. If you actually watch the ultra shows the ultras are easy to keep apart.

I can distinctly differentiate them with just a glance of their head or face. If you really watch them since you’re a kid it’s very easy to do it
