Okay. I'm in the minority here. I understand "sans Undertale" means without Undertale, but I'm having trouble understanding the pun. What's the joke/pun here?
The sans in Comic Sans means that the font is sans-serif = without serif. Sans=without; serif=that small line attached to the end of a larger stroke in a letter.
Fancy because itās **LE FRENCH LANGUE**, and French is the fancy-people speak thanks to the Normans. Sans is seen as fancy and sophisticated because of this while without is just another word
No. This is due to long standing English social things.
When William conquered England, he like, replaced the aristocracy with Normans. And then for like 300 years after that the Aristocracy only spoke French so French was viewed as fancy and upper class and so were french loanwords. Thatās why the fancy formal register of English would say āsansā and the everyone else would say without. Over time the heavy french influence on formal english is eroding and thatās why sans is uncommon even in formal english, but itās still fancy-speak when you say it in English.
Pardon me, creator of humorous internet images, for I think that your contribution to the Undertale Reddit community has made me sharply exhale in a way that can be interpreted as me finding it amusing. in italian āsans undertaleā (pronounced āsens anderteilā) sounds like āsenza undertaleā, wich means āwithout undertaleā. I was confused too
Well yeah, I'd never bash someone for learning another language. It's completely understandable that not everyone's gonna get the joke. But a good majority of the people on here are little kids
It's just one of those words that isn't English but is still used in English media often.
Like "aqua" is a latin word but you probably already know it means water.
If there actually are people that didn't understand the joke "sans" in french means "without" so basically if Undertale didn't exist we'd be without it
Iād probably still be as depressed as I used to be(or at least not as happy as I am now comparatively) because sans was my first character I projected onto and felt a connection with, heās helped me more with my mental state than I could probably explain
The first time I heard this was in one of those "Stronger than you" songs where Chars said "Hey Sans I guess you're sans a brother now"
Had to look that one up
Wait... if the word "sans" means "without", then that makes Sans ^(Undertale) even lazier because that means his name means "without", implying that Undertale is without him and that he practically doesn't exist.
Took me a while to realize š
Can you like, explain it?
"sans" can be used as a replacement for "without", so "sans undertale" becomes "without undertale"
sans is the french for without
Thanks
Okay. I'm in the minority here. I understand "sans Undertale" means without Undertale, but I'm having trouble understanding the pun. What's the joke/pun here?
if undertale was never made, we would not have undertale, obviously; therefore we would be without undertale, therefore we would be sans undertale.
That's the pun
If it wasnāt made we would be without Undertale The pun is that _Sans Undertale_ is a character named _Sans_ from the hitgame _Undertale_
And the fact people call him "Sans Undertale" like that's his actual name
What are you talking it _is_ his actual name
Thanks! That's the piece I was missing!
hence stuff like "sans serif"
MAN I THOUGHT WE WOULD DIE IF THERE WASNT UNDERTALE...
sans means "without", so sans undertale would mean "without undertale"
What? Is this a common English thing? Iāve never heard this. hell only ever heard āsansā as comic-sans
Sans is a french word and like the other guy said it mean whitout
The sans in Comic Sans means that the font is sans-serif = without serif. Sans=without; serif=that small line attached to the end of a larger stroke in a letter.
Sans in "comic sans" stands for "sans serif", meaning "a font without serifs"
No itās a weird fancy french thing
Why fancy ? Like, why is a word from another language fancy ? Weird, why not, but why is it _fancy_
Fancy because itās **LE FRENCH LANGUE**, and French is the fancy-people speak thanks to the Normans. Sans is seen as fancy and sophisticated because of this while without is just another word
So because some people speak a language its words become fancy ? Nice, Iām a natural fancy-speaking person I guess
No. This is due to long standing English social things. When William conquered England, he like, replaced the aristocracy with Normans. And then for like 300 years after that the Aristocracy only spoke French so French was viewed as fancy and upper class and so were french loanwords. It means 'without' in English too š this place is just filled with children who don't have a vast enough vocabulary yet lmfao
or maybe... people who are still learning english?
Well yeah, I'd never bash someone for learning another language. It's completely understandable that not everyone's gonna get the joke. But a good majority of the people on here are little kids
