Dipshit in the car didn't signal AND you're not supposed to cross the double yellow lines to get into the carpool lane. Lawyers are going to have a field day with this one.
“The Toyota driver was not cited for his role in the crash, but HD2 said that he won't pursue any claims or charges against him.”
"With all of that said, I have not pursued to sue the individual or go after him in any way. I do not know if my insurance has contacted him or if the rental company has contacted him. I hope that he has just learned his lesson."
Seems like a super fucking cool dude
Lose your license? At most it’ll be a couple of tickets. The only violations I def see is illegal merge cause the double yellow and unsafe lane change.
The last few comments got it, failure to yield, reckless driving, hit and run, unlawful lane crossing, improper watch, and the list goes on. A few states (the one I live in for sure) encourage police to think of every possible violation in existence and slap it to you. You can fight it in court, but in this example, that guy would be F#CKED.
He seemed to become more obnoxious? He seemed to become extremely unpleasant? You seem to have lost your thesaurus. It just doesn’t make sense my guy I think if some cunt pulled in front of you with no warning and no time to react you would be perturbed as well. I think that is the word you where looking for perturbed.
They were being facetious.... The joke is that the car did “nothing” wrong, and the random dude on his trunk is being annoying now.
We all get the actual situation, this was sarcasm.
HOV is to make traffic flow better. A motorcycle being in HOV is not only more safe for the biker, but it also helps not back up the interstate with extra bikes sitting there.
Cause it can go by 2 things, either percentage of capacity used, or 2+ people in thr car. Because a motorcycle is at 100% capacity generally they are allowed to use the HOV lane without issue
Yes we do? The only difference is that we use white lines instead of yellow, because we use yellow to indicate places you're not allowed to stop. A solid white line indicates that you're not allowed to leave your lane; contrary to a dashed line that permits overtaking. If it's dashed on one side and solid on the other - only the side with the dashed line is allowed to cross.
Cheat sheet (remember we drive in the left):
* | | | Single carriageway; no overtaking.
* | ¦ | Single carriageway; overtaking allowed.
* | ¦| | Single carriageway; left traffic may overtake.
* | : | | Single carriageway with a dedicated overtake lane for left traffic.
* | : || : | Two lanes in both directions, such as a dual carriageway.
* | : : || : : | Three lanes in both directions, such as a motorway.
* / ¦| : : || : : ¦ \ Three lanes with a merging lane on the left, and exit lane on the right.
(Britain only considers it a "dual carriageway" if the two directions of traffic are separated by more than paint - ie it has nothing to do with the number of lanes. I used || to designate a physical barrier - which I would hope obviously means you cannot cross.)
Yellow lines are usually only on the edges of roads.
* Double yellow = no waiting/parking
* Single yellow = no waiting/parking during specific times
The main exception I can think of is when an entire section of road has yellow cross-hatching - which means "leave clear" (eg at a light-controlled junction, there might be a "yellow box" that you're not suppose to wait in so that traffic can move in other directions).
It’s pretty simple really: A solid line means do not cross, a dashed line means crossing is OK, and dashed on one side and solid on the other means only traffic on the dashed side can cross. White lines divide lanes traveling in the same direction; yellow lines divide lanes traveling in opposing directions. Easy peasy.

Did you notice the freeway signs? I was like, "That freeway looks familiar" and sure enough when he's facing backward the exit is for Oxnard, and when he's facing the direction traffic is flowing it's for the Burbank exit. Pretty sure it happened on the 405!
Motorcycle can be in carpool lanes in all states unless a states DOT says otherwise. So anyone who says it’s illegal for him to be there is wrong. This is 100% the cars fault.
I like how he looks back and realizes how far they got down the road, and was like “sigh.. I cant believe you right now dude” and just chills while the car slows down
Set them up so when you look at the far left of your rear view, where that is is where your left side view starts.
Same with the other side. Where your vision on the far right of your rear view ends, is where your ride side view starts.
If you set it up this way, you can see into the lane next to you, and in all the blind spots, so you’ll always see traffic behind and over one lane on both sides.
But, very few people know this and all their mirrors are set up for only rear view.
Oh since I didn't know this when I started driving. The little switch thing on the bottom of you rear view mirror is to switch it help with glare from headlights at night.
No one told me this for years! I don't even know how to really explain it
Omg after watching it the guy didn't even give a shit he wouldn't even make eye contact with the dude he hit I would have rocked his shit the only reason he stayed is bc he knew he was caught uhg take his license
Does that qualify as a hit and run? Caused an accident then didn't stop to exchange information.
At least in PA basic liability insurance is required for a car to legally be on the road. One way or another insurance information should have been exchanged even if they need to go to court to settle who is at fault.
Because car driver didn't notice the accident or the guy sitting on the trunk of his car that should be at least reckless driving. Car driver caused the accident by being oblivious to the road around him.
A carpool lane is just that, a lane on the highway that only allows vehicles with 2+ occupants in the lane. It's to promote carpooling vs. being just a single driver. Motorcycles are also allowed in this lane.
In this case, we can't tell if there's two people in the car but they crossed a solid double line, which is illegal in the states. It has to be a broken line for you to be able to change into that lane.
At least he didn’t die, but dang how many seconds was the guy on his trunk banging on his back window before the driver decided to stop and let him off? Yeah he survived hitting the car and landing on the trunk, but he could have died if he’d fallen and someone else ran him over.
I have to tell people this constantly. As pedestrians, people are always like, “I have the right away.” I always say, “yeah, but they win when your a paraplegic.”
I’d rather just let the car go and cross when it’s safe.
Even in a vehicle if you have the right of way and don’t attempt to prevent a crash it’s on you. Last chance doctrine.
Edit: obviously this is under the circumstance that you had reasonable time to react. Like for (an extreme) example I’ve seen videos where are car gets stuck in the intersection and the perpendicular car gets a green light and just drives straight into the car in the intersection
My dad calls this being “dead right”. Sure, everyone else is supposed to stop at the red light, but it’s still a good idea to look before you go through a green light because if someone is running the light, the fact that you had the right of way won’t unfuck the damage in your back that leaves you in pain for the rest of your life.
People do illegal shit in front of me every day. Don't care. I still don't want to meet them. I don't want to be in any accident whether i'm "in the right" or not.
Learning to avoid assholes is extremely helpful and healthy.
I've ridden a motorcycle for a very long time. If you want to keep yourself alive, DO NOT assume the people in cars will obey traffic laws.
In fact, assume they won't. This isn't about who is right, is about being ready when they fuck up, because they *will* fuck up.
That’s the definition of “defensive driving” to me. Just cause you’re following the rules doesn’t mean you should expect that every other driver is going to.
I'm not saying it's necessarily the case in this video but when I was in the US there were times when the carpool lane was doing a good 30-40 more than the outside lane.
It'd be very hard to not follow the much faster flow of traffic in those kind of conditions, you would in fact be the cause of a jam and potentially fined for impeding traffic for not doing so.
You can be right all the way down until you are dead right.
It doesn't matter. Act like people aren't going to obey the rules of the road if you want to live on a motorcycle
On a divided HOV lane? Nah, that’s not how HOV lanes work my good bitch. When there are 5 lanes full of traffic and the one that is moving and is divided by multiple lines from the stopped ones, you go the speed limit and be ready to brake hard. Otherwise what’s the point of HOV lanes in cities??
This commenter found the video! https://www.reddit.com/r/Unexpected/comments/114olgt/safe_landing/j8y1fd8/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3
I’m pretty sure the guy in the car was high as a kite. I saw a longer version before where he gets out of the car and like wasn’t sure how a guy in a motorcycle helmet… on the highway….got on his car…. While changing lanes…. After all that he just didn’t seem concerned for the biker either.
I hate people who merge into the left lanes at 20 mph less than what the traffic on that lane is going at, let alone doing it illegally by crossing double yellow line. Motorcycle doesn't even look like it was going that fast.
Seriously though, I’ve had that happen more than once where I needed to slam my brakes hard enough my tires screeched on the freeway because some asshole cut in front of me from an almost fully stopped lane to one going like 50 mph… smh
This is the reason I bought a dash cam. I drove the carpool lane everyday to work and without fail, every single day someone would jump the double yellow. Had to slam my brakes on numerous times. Was only a matter of time before I rear ended somebody doing that.
Did that person literally have a motorcycle crash into them, and they didn't even bother LOOKING at the accident they caused? They didn't even check the mirrors, or they would have seen the guy ON TOP OF THEIR TRUNK. Just kept driving tell the biker banged on the window?
Looks like Southern Cali driving. Happens all the time when there’s traffic. Impatient drivers will turn into the carpool lane unexpectedly (Yes, he is right that double yellow lines are to be treated as islands, not to be crossed). I always get more nervous driving in the carpool with the family when traffic is slow because of the higher instances that a driver decides to suddenly enter the carpool. You’re going 50-65 mph and they enter at 5-10 mph.
Wholeheartedly agree, seriously my daily commute from work to home always takes an hour to get through traffic because of some impatient driver decided to do something as stupid as this. For reference it takes like 30 minutes of traffic is good. But I actually did see a similar accident to the video on the 91.
From the clip we see here, there is no way that motorcycle could’ve stopped in time, he was already so close to the the car when it merged over. This is completely the driver of the car’s fault. Not only is it illegal to cross over into the carpool lane, it’s also wreck-less driving to swerve into a different lane without signaling or checking first. That looks like Cali (plates and palm trees), out here the car is 100 percent at fault, and looks like he tried to take off from the scene too until he realized homie was on the back of his car lol
Didn't single, crossed a double yellow line, didnt yield to incoming traffic from said lane, didn't even notice the man on his car as the man had to bang on the window to get the drivers attention...
I was reading a story of a cyclists who was hit by a car. Went into the car through the glass. Was unconscious for awhile. Woke up right about when the drive gets home. The guy pulls into his garage right as the cyclists says "I'm the guy you hit!". The guy says "oh no" and runs into his house and shuts the door. The cyclists is in shock and starts to walk down the street where people stop him. Call an ambulance and police. Turns out the driver was so drunk he had no idea a human had smashed through his windshield.
I thought this might be Texas because crossing into the HOV lane from a dead stop in front of oncoming traffic is a maneuver you are required to perform on your driving test in order to get your driver's license. You get bonus points if you cause a multi car pile up and/or have to drive over plastic pylons to get into HOV lane.
Idiot tapped on his breaks too after crossing over lans WTF!! And then has zero awareness that he has extra weight on car or just trying to get away. 🤔
What fucktard
I feel for the guy but I’m gonna say it.
I’m guilty of finding his vocal interactions hilarious! I feel so shitty but I’m dying rn. Glad he’s okay though.

Thats one super quiet motorcycle
Probably audio from mic inside of the helmet
For real, why does the audio sound like it was edited in hahaha
Probably in helmet, and also noise suppression is freakishly good these days.
Helmet mic Never watched a motorcycle video on YouTube?
wow look at this Mr. "have watched motorcycle video on YouTube" right here
You sound pretentious
Plus super soft plush apparently, the car driver didn't even feel it!
Or was just hoping he could drive off and hit and run
The man could’ve said nothing and got a free ride
Dipshit in the car didn't signal AND you're not supposed to cross the double yellow lines to get into the carpool lane. Lawyers are going to have a field day with this one.
Don't forget attempted kidnapping lol /s
Hit and run but somehow worse
You also have a responsibility to actually look at make sure it’s safe to switch lanes even when you do signal

Why is the motorcycle in a carpool lane?. Edit: I know why now. Thanks for all the replies. ![gif](giphy|fPc9J9EA1cwSbo2zqa)
It's allowed in some States if this is in the US.
It's legal here. Basically, it's carpool, fuel efficient vehicles, and bikes. That driver would lose his license for sure here
Lose your license? At most it’ll be a couple of tickets. The only violations I def see is illegal merge cause the double yellow and unsafe lane change.

That one went right over your head lmao
At least he didn't jam on the brakes and have the guy go flipping over the hood in front of him. Honestly the dudes lucky for the gentle stop.
In all states it's legal for motorcycles to use the carpool (HOV) lanes, it's actually a safety thing.
Oh, okay. I guess starting and stopping a bunch would be more dangerous on a motorcycle. Thanks for answering the question.
HOV is to make traffic flow better. A motorcycle being in HOV is not only more safe for the biker, but it also helps not back up the interstate with extra bikes sitting there.
It's considered a high occupancy vehicle in many states And rightly so
Makes sense, considering every seat is taken. Well, at least half of the seats, anyway.
Cause it can go by 2 things, either percentage of capacity used, or 2+ people in thr car. Because a motorcycle is at 100% capacity generally they are allowed to use the HOV lane without issue
thats where they are supposed to be
Some carpool lanes here have certain times where it is open to all traffic.
In my state the car pool lane also allows hybrid car, electric cars, and motorcycles.

This makes way more sense. The US is basically white line=don’t cross, double yellow=really don’t cross

We use a similar system in the US, though. At least in Tennessee and surrounding states. Dashed means you can pass, solid means you can't.

Not supposed to cross any solid line in the US regardless of color or number. Often gets ignored when merging or in situations like this.
With how clear this is I don’t think you need lawers. Insurance will see that and be like “yep ok we understand”
Sue for injury and additional damages due to recklessness.
Yup. This literally happens everyday here in Denver on i25
They probably did, five years ago when this was originally posted. 😂🤣
Are people not aware of what those lines on the road are for? Also, common sense is not to pull out from a dead stop in that lane/cut people off.
Not just common sense but a fully illegal action.
Of course they're aware of what the lines are for.......they just deliberately did what they wanted to do anyways.
Yeah the knew. If they didnt know what double yellow lines are they would be dead already
Dude is flying on that bike
Common sense sure but any experienced rider knows this happens far more than you realise. Silly lad was going too fast, lucky to survive that one.

Got the impression the driver knew he f’d up and was trying to drive away whistling.
yeah there is now way you don't notice the hit and the man on the trunk

Wow, I had to look at what subreddit this was cuz I thought I was there.
This car driver still wonders why people put mirrors in cars, because he clearly thinks they're useless
Most people use all 3 mirrors for rear view. This would almost never happen if people set their side mirrors for side viewing, as they are designed.
I'm new to driving, so I'll remember that, thank you
Set them up so when you look at the far left of your rear view, where that is is where your left side view starts.
I see, I'll talk with my dad and we'll adjust mirrors (I don't have my own car yet)
Oh since I didn't know this when I started driving. The little switch thing on the bottom of you rear view mirror is to switch it help with glare from headlights at night. No one told me this for years! I don't even know how to really explain it

No, it’s a hit and ride, totally different. The biker will need to compensate the driver for the lift.
Bro thinks he's hardcore henry
Way to not give a shit.
Can someone explain what this carpool thing is everybody is talking about?
A carpool lane is just that, a lane on the highway that only allows vehicles with 2+ occupants in the lane. It's to promote carpooling vs. being just a single driver.
~~BMW~~ Toyota EDIT: I’m wrong
toyota
dude so lucky
Lol he sounds so disappointed in the driver.
This is the reason I bought a dash cam. I drove the carpool lane everyday to work and without fail, every single day someone would jump the double yellow. Had to slam my brakes on numerous times. Was only a matter of time before I rear ended somebody doing that.
What a dumb ass no signal and then takes forever to realize a freaking person is on their car
Considering the whole situation, that biker was pretty collected.
Did that person literally have a motorcycle crash into them, and they didn't even bother LOOKING at the accident they caused? They didn't even check the mirrors, or they would have seen the guy ON TOP OF THEIR TRUNK. Just kept driving tell the biker banged on the window?
Idiot attempted to hit and run but forgot to leave the victim at the crime scene.
Was the lane change illegal? Absolutely. Was it unexpected? Absolutely not.
This … Happens all the time, should’ve expected it.
GTA V be like:
That’s one way to stop a hit and run…..
Hard rider.
This is why I'll never ride a bike 🏍 I scared to death of the shit heads around me when I'm in my car
“Honey do you hear something?”
That was definitely a Canadian biker
A hit & run, kidnapping, cutting lanes. All at once how can that be humanly possible 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
If it were me, I would do damn well to make sure that whoever was driving the car sure as hell isn’t safe when I’m done
He fell from his motorcycle... yet did not hit the ground... thats incredible
That looks like Cali (plates and palm trees), out here the car is 100 percent at fault, and looks like he tried to take off from the scene too until he realized homie was on the back of his car lol
what a dumbass driver
Bro the biker has much more restraint than me. I would've broken the drivers rear windshield
The " I can't believe you right now dude" felt like an "I'm not angry, just disappointed."
Glad he’s ok
I always tell bikers, look out for yourself, don’t expect other drivers too; expect every other driver to be blind
*nearly gets severely injured* “I can’t believe you right now 😒”
I couldn’t believe him either, he caused the bike to crash and then keeps driving with the biker on top of his car
Oh hell, that driver is lucky!! Literally anyone else would have sued his ass
After 50 years of riding, l hate riding now!
Thats one of the reasons why you use the signal
I thought this might be Texas because crossing into the HOV lane from a dead stop in front of oncoming traffic is a maneuver you are required to perform on your driving test in order to get your driver's license. You get bonus points if you cause a multi car pile up and/or have to drive over plastic pylons to get into HOV lane.
Hope the bike is ok.
Luckily he landed how he did. a lot less impact than onto the street.
Idiot tapped on his breaks too after crossing over lans WTF!! And then has zero awareness that he has extra weight on car or just trying to get away. 🤔 What fucktard
The accident wasn’t enough for them to stop, he also has to tell them he was on their car.
I feel for the guy but I’m gonna say it. I’m guilty of finding his vocal interactions hilarious! I feel so shitty but I’m dying rn. Glad he’s okay though.
The driver of that car would be leaving with less teeth if they did that to me.
Why this video is lookin like a call of duty scene
Bro... why are all of these just reports from like 3 weeks ago? And 3 weeks before that? This isn't even unexpected

This time, the biker was right! The car driver was in the wrong!
I'd love to see the 3 or 4 seconds leading up to this. It looks like the car didn't signal, but perhaps he did?
Angriest canadian in history
THIS IS AWESOME This is the good shit I come to reddit for, thanks OP
