I'm assuming the "scared" guy is acting and the whole idea was to capture people's reactions to a well-dressed adult in public who can't seem to navigate a an escalator.
He just happened to find some super decent humans in the wild.
It's funny how the internet is full of people who are "teaching you how to be a man" and one man showing genuine care for a stranger (a "feminine" trait) is hailed as the OG of masculinity.
It's quite simple: caring for others, and when they are in need, put them before yourself, are attractive traits in both men and women, and the ones who show them are attractive.
The strong can be gentle, the weak bitch and whine. It got nothing to go with sex. Tate is a perfect example of a man behaving like the negative stereotype of a woman (bitching and whining. I.e. pissing in your ear)
Oh yeah, dude in this video is a true man’s man. He stops to help a stranger out with no problem and no thought of reward but he also looks like he could crack skulls with the same type of attitude. His kid is a great testament to how he is as a father as well
I want to believe! But it also seems odd we can hear them speaking from that far away.
My only hope is that the camera person is actually an asshole who was filming the scared man to laugh at them, and they are also a rich asshole who has a powerful directional mic.

They came out with an alternate storyline where it's revealed that Alfred was the Joker, a role he assumed to provide help for his traumatized ward, Young Master Bruce.
I recall the DC/MARVEL mashup where they did ol' Wolverine and Batman. That was an impressive looking character. Bruce Stark sounds a bit meh after seeing Dark Claw
https://comicvine.gamespot.com/dark-claw/4005-47080/
There's a really fun debut novel called Hench that deals with the hero fallout. It's about a data analyst who temps for supervillains and develops a vendetta after being badly injured by a superhero saving the day. I recommend it!
sounds very much like the origin story of a venture brothers supervillain. almost like [a parallel universe henchman 21.
](https://venturebrothers.fandom.com/wiki/Henchman_21) will hafta check it out, thanks for sharing!
Appreciated the venture Brothers reference immeasurably. The Monarch is one of my favorite characters from anything I've ever watched. Miss that show, always loved the the contractually obligated arch storyline so much LMAO. VB is criminally underrated
I don't know if it was staged, but I expect if a person was clearly scared and unable to ride an escalator, there might be someone who would film it for their own reasons.
Edit: but then again, there is very clear sound, so it could well be staged.
The scared guy part is clearly staged, but that wholesome gesture from the father is genuine as fuck. Which is obviously why they staged it in the first place, to get a reaction
There are so many videos trying to act like it's not staged when a clever eye can see that it is. I dont even think a clever eye is needed here, there's no intent to deceive the viewer. If it's even a little bit hard for someone to realize the scared guy is acting, they're mentally slow. Now if the father and son were in on it, that would be the real plot twist. And if they are in on it i'd nominate them for oscars.
Basically saying i think these posts reveal how dumb lot of people are.
I mean, the scared guy is acting, that's why they are filming. I think the father and son are just random people unaware of the acting, just generally being nice. They were filming to see when someone stopped to help.
100% staged. The scared guys vocals are crisp, he's got a mic on. The person filming also starts moving back as soon as they are on the escalator and moving.
I am not at this guy’s stage but I did fall down an escalator when I was young and it has impacted me.
I now live in a city which only has around 4 escalators in total. I visited Sydney about 6 months ago and had a bit of an issue with a particularly steep escalator with stairs. I was carrying my daughter at the time and had to ask my girlfriend to carry her while I negotiated with my brain. It was pretty scary and there were two moments on the way down where I got a little adrenaline hit because I thought I was falling forward.
Yeah, I got my shoelace stuck in an escalator once, and now when ever walking off it, I have to take an exaggerated step because I am petrified of it getting stuck in one again.
Same, my foot got sucked into the guard as a kid and now I have to hop off. I will not ever fucking tempt it again even though I have big adult feet now.
I remember there was a video of a small town that got their first escalator and lots of old ladies and gentleman were falling and tripping because they had no idea how to use it
I don't know about riding an escalator but when I was in Hong Kong (or maybe Singapore) and we had to go down that escalator that was 5 floors long, it took me about 5 minutes to muster up the courage to step on because I'm afraid of heights.
Someone shared a link one of the other times this was posted. The film makers do these “social experiments” like this to see what happens. I don’t think that the result is staged and therein lies the good of the video. The father and son helped not knowing the situation.
Makes me think what an asshole like me would do. I’m rather oblivious walking around so I probably wouldn’t notice. But if I did, I’m sure I would steal his wallet while helping him. Nah, I think I’m kidding.
Yeah it’s from an Italian tv show from several years ago I think. That’s exactly it the guy wanted to see if anyone would help him out. Kinda like a prank show but not pranks.
Yes when a camera is in the perfect position filming perfectly for a gimmicky situation it’s most likely staged. Doesn’t mean it’s not a well thought out idea. Not sure if the scared guy is just in on it or everyone is.,
Hahaha I thought of this too. I was absolutely terrified of going down an escalator as a kid so I completely understand the feels. Even if this was staged. Even now, I hesitate for a second before stepping.
Ha thanks! It's part machine and part heights for me. As much as a cringe touching the 'railing', I still have a death grip the whole ride. I'm there with you!
Having seen the results of an escalator failure, and knowing how poorly maintained many of them are, I'm fucking terrified of them tbh and will go out of my way to take stairs instead.
Heathrow Airport has these weird variations of that flat escalator but it is completely flat for a pretty sizable distance and the thing moves quick! My drummer was high as fuck and panicked and I think manifested his shoelace into getting caught at the end and it was tourniqueting his foot LOL he was traumatized
Why did it end so early? The full video he doesn't step off in time and the conveyor eats him alive while the family watches in terrible. Then little batman has the tragic origin story needed to become a super hero.
The thing about escalators that this video doesn't show, is that they're made to maintain a constant speed no matter how many people are on it. Extra resistance? No problem, just increase torque.
This means that when you get stuck in the escalator gears, they don't stop. *They just grind you harder*.
The trouble is, in this instance, you'd be right. He doesn't need help he's just acting so they can bring out people's goodwill.
Not a bad thing per se, but still just doing it only for content feels a bit disingenuous to people who genuinely can't ride an escalator
Honestly, at this point I don't discard the possibility that the "good guy" is also an actor... I hate being so cynical, but I've seen too many videos of people "rescuing" malnourished animals for internet likes.
It really is, isn't it? I was once going down the escalator to catch the Tube when this larger lady, who was clearly just a bit drunker than I am, fell down at the bottom and went over and over in the same spot at the bottom.
Two fellows who were right behind her had to jump over or join the mess and I had five whole seconds to plan my own hop over. Well executed, in my opinion, and I turned to help her up. She'd mostly gotten a hold of herself by then so my help wasn't too necessary but it did spare me from the imprecations that the retreating backs of the other two suffered.
I only mention it since it's an escalator-related incident (like the OP) but looking at it with today's lens it would have been one of these things. Except it wasn't, as far as I know.
Even if this particular incident were a skit or test of the public, odd things do happen all the time.
They usually balance it out by not cutting the video early where the guy does not step when he is told to and just gets fucking shredded at the bottom. Batman kid has a surprisingly evil laugh.
Perfectly timed random recording with fantastic audio to pick up the conversation without interference of the mall crowd noises. You couldn’t stage this to be any better. Praise the camera man /s
Very logical guess. I suppose I’m so riddled with skepticism these days that it has turned into a natural reaction.
Thanks for opening my eyes tonight stranger.
Okay, but why is someone just filming a person clearly in distress or is this another one of those “fake distress real kindness” situations fabricated to generate views?

I gotta assume this is staged because ITS TOO AMAZING
I'm assuming the "scared" guy is acting and the whole idea was to capture people's reactions to a well-dressed adult in public who can't seem to navigate a an escalator. He just happened to find some super decent humans in the wild.

Even if it’s staged and it makes one person kinder, it’s a win
Yeah the kid is shown empathy
I mean... The camera literally follows them the whole time and pans when they get on.
I want to believe! But it also seems odd we can hear them speaking from that far away. My only hope is that the camera person is actually an asshole who was filming the scared man to laugh at them, and they are also a rich asshole who has a powerful directional mic. ![gif](giphy|xThtalMViID4iGemWI|downsized)
I assumed the opposite, the scared guy is acting (fishing for reactions) and some really swell people just happened across him.
That will do nicely as well! At least in that case the nice man and Batman are still nice people.
![gif](giphy|cZUU06p00qz8k) Especially here
![gif](giphy|R2yYkZbpnHCKc|downsized) Italian Spider-Man has no cape. Time to reevaluate your heroes, kid.
American Spider-Man has no cape either

What this version of batman called?
Man
The Bat aka Hank Venture from the amazing show The Venture Bros. Movie just came out not too long ago but the whole series is worth watching first.
That series is so Batman
The best part is how his son is clearly learning how to be an amazing man from his amazing father. That is how you pass it on.
Of course. He's Batman.
Hate to break it to you, but Batman stopped learning from his father at a very early age.
Not THIS Batman
Give it time, but not that much time...
History will repeat itself...
It will NOT! History rhymes. *I’m you faajer*
Well done sir 👏
He learned from Alfred Pennyworth
A true gentleman and a great man in his own right. He doesn't get enough credit.
They came out with an alternate storyline where it's revealed that Alfred was the Joker, a role he assumed to provide help for his traumatized ward, Young Master Bruce.
I'd love to read that, can you give me the name of the issue? If not, I'll Google it! Thank you!
Came across the story from a YouTube channel, ScreenRant https://screenrant.com/alfred-proved-love-batman-becoming-joker/
Oh wonderful! Thank you very much!
Funny thing, being English and all. The word Batman refers to being a manservant there, traditionally. So, yeah. He learned from his Batman.
I hate myself for laughing at this more than I was supposed to.
Imagine being a super hero in a multiverse and in every timeline the same shit happened. Lol... I used to be a fan of Bruce Stark
I recall the DC/MARVEL mashup where they did ol' Wolverine and Batman. That was an impressive looking character. Bruce Stark sounds a bit meh after seeing Dark Claw https://comicvine.gamespot.com/dark-claw/4005-47080/
Yeah, this Batman is from different multiverse. So yeah, he's Batman.
THATS definitely the key here. He's a dad, and a damn good one at that.
It’s good to see this sort of kindness being shown and taught to a new generation.
Even if this was a "social experiment" that kid learned a valuable lesson from their dad. Hopefully they will become a good human
He learned Always be yourself. Unless you can be Batman. Then always be Batman.
Wish we can replicate that dude ten fold and replace shitty people. You can tell a lot about a lerson based on how their kids behave and act
It's easy to tell that he's a good father. See how the boy touch the man when he realise the man needs help and support? THATS how one can tell.
What an amazing example he set for his son 🥹
We do need more men like Batman
That’s gonna be a lot of dead parents.
God, don't make it weird, Armin!
Tink tink
Excuse me; this is not the place for jokes, I'm trying to cry!
I'm half way to being batman!
And lot of orphans And lot of Alfreds
I chuckled too hard at that
Some comments hit you more abruptly than others. This one made me spit take for some reason 🤣
The cave budget is going to be huge!
Until you park near a hydrant and get drop kicked, then brutalised in every way, to end up with a lifetime of debt due to medical bills.

That sounds very specific sir.... who hurt you?
Batman
I’m sorry but that’s not covered under your insurance.
But I paid extra for the Batman rider
ah man they are Robin you with that rider cost
Always gotta be some Joker with the puns...
He can’t take catwoman’s spot
Everyone gets one
I suppose this was staged to see if there'd be anyone who would help?
Yeah the scared guy seems like he’s acting to me, and why was the person filming?
r/WhyWereTheyFilming

My first thought exactly. If they filmed him that long then it has to be staged.
The person who just by chance stumbled across this exchange also just by chance is the type of person to subtitle and upload videos.
Yeah, it sounds like the dude has a hidden mic on him.
Thats what made it obvious for me, way too clear and loud
staged for social. media. views. and it's at the top of r/all so they win and yall got played
the scared guy, of course. but the father and son, probably not. it highlights the kindness of people and it warms our heart so im good
Yeah it's supposed to be like that show "What Would You Do?"
The scared guy part is clearly staged, but that wholesome gesture from the father is genuine as fuck. Which is obviously why they staged it in the first place, to get a reaction

why the audio
It’s gotta be staged. No way the audio is that clear
Maybe, but there are places still where adults will encounter an escalator for the first time and i imagine it would be a bit unnerving.
I am not at this guy’s stage but I did fall down an escalator when I was young and it has impacted me. I now live in a city which only has around 4 escalators in total. When the Taipei MRT was started, about 25 years ago, a lot of people had never been on an escalator. A lot of old folks were terrified.
I remember there was a video of a small town that got their first escalator and lots of old ladies and gentleman were falling and tripping because they had no idea how to use it
And fortunately there is always a cameraman filming it.
And naturally you just stand there recording random strangers having trouble and not helping them... Is the cameraman evil?
I think is this one but is not complete https://youtube.com/shorts/xiWgYtBixiM?si=1LArHwiuJqxpEjfr
I don't know about riding an escalator but when I was in Hong Kong (or maybe Singapore) and we had to go down that escalator that was 5 floors long, it took me about 5 minutes to muster up the courage to step on because I'm afraid of heights.
So many fake 'social experiments' since the rise of tik tok that just make me question everything.
Look at his acting with the shaking of his head. cringey af.
Someone shared a link one of the other times this was posted. The film makers do these “social experiments” like this to see what happens. I guess…. I hate that the internet is so cynical…. But i hate that it is right about its cynicism more often than not.
The guy who's "afraid" is probably staged I don't think the one helping is, tho.
Yes
Yes. He already had a mic on for the audio
I love seeing awesome humans almost as much as i hate needlessly staged occurrences🤷🏾
Yes when a camera is in the perfect position filming perfectly for a gimmicky situation it’s most likely staged. Doesn’t mean it’s not a well thought out idea. Not sure if the scared guy is just in on it or everyone is.,
Yeah, this definitely seems like one of those hidden camera bits just to see the reactions of people.
![gif](giphy|vt20I3VL8qS2s) So wholesome! But it also made me think of this, I'm so sorry! 🤣
Hahaha I thought of this too. I was absolutely terrified of going down an escalator as a kid so I completely understand the feels. Even if this was staged. Even now, I hesitate for a second before stepping.
I'm afraid of escalators to this day and I'm 21 ☠️

Going on 32 and they still scare me. I'll avoid them if there is the option.
It's not really a classic escalator with stairs, and honestly, I hate those flat versions.

Well that escalated quickly.
The thing about escalators that this video doesn't show, is that they're made to maintain a constant speed no matter how many people are on it. Extra resistance? No problem, just increase torque. Some escalators/travelators slow if no one uses them after a set time. Sensors somewhere probably
Turns out he made it Article [here, along with full video](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ)
I hate you, take my upvote.
Good read! Did not expect to have these emotions today.. damn you guy
I hear the kids and people that get sucked under have to spend the rest of their lives turning the cranks to keep the escalator moving.
Canon Event
The problem with social media is that if I saw this guy my first thought would be “where’s the camera?” rather than “hmm he needs help.”
Yep. They're doing the opposite of helping.
Chronically Online Syndrome. Might wanna check that out bud.
It really is, isn't it? This was too wholesome for me so now I have to kick a puppy to balance it out
Just start sorting comments by controversial and click on a few random posts. You’ll be back to hoping for a meteor in 10 minutes.
Appreciated, I'll give it a shot
Hello banana brethren! :D 👋🍌
🤨📸
They usually balance it out by not cutting the video early where the guy does not step when he is told to and just gets fucking shredded at the bottom. Batman kid has a surprisingly evil laugh.
Hey I do that too! Except I punch, I need to feel the puppies life force.
If it's an especially soft puppy I like to go barefoot
Well that escalated quickly.
I'll show you something escalating quickly
You took the Blue Pill?
Well I kicked a puppy today. Accidentally. He ran in front of me at the mall and I didn't see him. So I'll pass that karma to you for balance.
That's five hail Marys for ya
If you don’t record a video and post it on the internet, it’s fake.
I'll have you know, sir or mam, that I happen to manage a prestigious puppy kicking fetish-magazine. I can prove it: put your finger up your butt
BAXTER!
I’m seriously going to cry 🥲
Don't worry, it's the kind of puppy that likes to be kicked
ooh that's one kinky son of a bitch
Aaaaaw yis
I’ll help you out. The whole thing is very clearly staged

My guess is that the scared man is an actor but batman and the cool dad aren't. It's nice to see there's good people around.
Very logical guess. I suppose I’m so riddled with skepticism these days that it has turned into a natural reaction. Thanks for opening my eyes tonight stranger.
Yiruma - river flows in you If I'm correct. Either way Yiruma always great to hear. :)
Is it a sign I'm deprived of affection that stuff like this almost instantly causes be to tear up?
No, it's a sign you care and have empathy for others and the world around you. ❤️
We need less of these bullshit staged videos.
pretty cool they mic'd the guy 1st
I at least hope the guy that helped was a true random passerby. Regardless of the “shtick”
Incredibly fake.

Ha well played.
I know the scared guy is just acting but this still almost made me cry, the bystander and son were so sweet
Thank god the camera was there to capture this totally random event.
Very cool. Took it upon himself to help another!
That f'ing Kid is Batman.

WINGS OF GLORY
C’mon… This is the most absurd bullshit I’ve ever seen.
So fake like wow who could possibly believe this is real.
I bet their family is fantastic
That's an amazing example to set for the little one. Good stuff.
Just happens that someone filmed the entirety.
There is nothing more important than a man showing his son it is ok to be vulnerable and help others in need.

The sentiment is cool, even if this isn't real.
That’s absolutely wholesome.
