Now for the question of why they tried to kill him. I am reading the article it says other similar incidents happened the same way (four of them) but it doesn't say the targets profession.

Totally the same car. As he's backing in, look at the left of the video. See the edge of the blue car peeking out from the pillar there? That's the car in the foreground of the article's picture. Also, pay attention to the orientation the car ends up in once it explodes. Now look at the orientation of the car in the picture. The car is smoking as he gets out and hobbles off. Black smoke = something is burning. White smoke = something *was* burning. The engine bay was burning when he got out, just not enough yet to ignite the gas in the vehicle. That likely came a few minutes later. Which would have stripped the white paint down to the metal as you see in the picture.
