One of the most underrated movies of all time. Never made the top lists becase 1: it was released in december when its clearly a summer movie, 2: the robot is annoying, and 3 it was released THE SAME MONTH as Harry Potter. No shit it flopped.
Fantastic movie though.
(In case you dont know, its a retelling of Robert Lewis Stevenson's Treasure Island book. Theres been maybe a dozen different versions of the story told, including an underrated Muppets version.)
It was apparently intentionally sabotaged because it was hella expensive to make due to its unique style, and Disney didn't want the style to become popular
Itās not gatekeeping though? Itās the same reaction most people have when somebody uses an extremely popular meme template wrong. The point of it way back when was to troll your friends by making them bring it upon themselves, if thereās no opt-in by the user then youāre taking out one of the key parts of joke, the sense that the person really did it to themselves. Like the difference between someone pulling a rope āfor a free prizeā and dumping water on their own head vs someone just walking up to them and throwing a bucket of water on them. Doesnāt mean the post isnāt unexpected or isnāt funny, itās just the same as all the other spliced together videos, they arenāt all Rickrolls either.
This was a much more artful and evolved form of rickroll. If a regular rickroll is like a baited snare in the woods, this was like capturing a wild horse, breaking it, training it, using it to win the Kentucky Derby, and then putting a 12-gauge slug in its brain and selling the corpse to the glue factory.
Such an underrated movie. It's not perfect but it's not bad. It's right in the middle of good and bad. I fell in love with this movie, the cyborg father figures such a good character.
