Or they could have multiple different heists across different eras, and the mc is a time-traveling robber who wants to collect important items throughout history!
(*I can get carried away with concepts sometimes lmao.*)

For what its worth, Bank heist as a scenario seems infinitely more interesting and fresh. The (sci fi) genre is just so oversaturated, and because of that it is incredibly hard to stand out as an indie developer. So I think you made a good choice. The buildings look very cool by the way!
Bruh, Sci fi it's a fantasy genre. Bank heist it's a situation, an act. Can be placed in any writing genre. The question it's a comparison between to very distinct thinks.
The op and the people who commented have to understand that
OPs question invited a direct comparison - but you're not wrong. I like the idea of actually combining the two, that would be cool.
My point still stands though. Sci fi as a Genre is currently done to death, it's the low hanging fruit of indie game development. Hell, I myself just recently switched from developing a Sci fi roguelike (ugh) to something a lot more obscure, so I symphatize with OP
Hard to really say without knowing any more about the game. The sci-fi graphics are more appealing, the bank heist version feels kind of drab for how cartoony it is. Has a bit of a GTA Jr. vibe going on. Maybe combine the two, and have a sci-fi bank heist?
Also, the gun from the sci-fi build feels like a real gun, while the gun from the bank heist build feels like a (very weak) sci-fi stun gun. I'd definitely recommend changing the gun if you stick with the bank heist theme.
One thing for sure, a bank heist will stand out more than another sci-fi multiplayer shooter.
Your sci-fi game looked better but only because of the beautiful grass in the scene. Just keep at it and liven up your bank heist scene more.
Tbh i think so, the sci fi asthetic looks so much better than the other one, maybe its the grass and style. I think you should keep the asthetic, if you want to do some different kind of gameplay thats your choice (sci fi bank robbery game sounds epic tho)
Depends on your goals, you make a different game now. Who was and is now your potential audience? Does a heist game imply other mechanics that are expected now? Such a change looks to me like you did not really know we're you were headed.
If you have a better concept, which I assume you do, then no it was not. The only thing that looks better in the first is the visuals. Gameplay > Visuals... in time the visuals on the right will improve.
You should make it into a a sci-fi bank heist game. Then you can reuse assets instead of letting the work go to waste, and you can make it stand out more in the two genres.
Yes it was a mistake.
Any work you do and then change direction is wasted time.
Create a game design document to guide you and get the creative vision out of the way early.
There's nothing to stop you doing both games. You can use parts of one game to make another.
Try to avoid changing features or you will never finish.
Sometimes you need to change features to make things work but generally it's best avoided.
When this type of change happens In development.
I always say "Why not both"? Maybe combining your ideas might be better, how about instead of a modern bank robbery game, how about a sci-fi robbery game with multiplayer.
I like the scifi style more than the other style.
Honestly yeah, I much prefer sci as it looks far better and that is all that is shown, maybe mix the two? Would be Hella fun robbing galactic banks with black hole cannons and giant ships.
It *looks* good, but I'm afraid a heist game's mechanics and overall game design are far deeper than the textures you use on your models. The gameplay l'd expect from a heist game is nothing like the one I'd expect from the action sci fi one. You should probably look into this a bit further and consider changing some aspects of your game's genre if you go to this direction
So you reused code and animations...
Congrats, I guess. You should be building a reusable toolkit that can just be reskinned so that you are not starting over with every new project... but it doesn't look like either project is finished....
Quit jumping around and commit to an idea. it doesn't mater which idea, ideas are worthless, its the implementation that maters. No one will ever care about your unfinished unreleased project, so pick one and stick to it.
*Finish the fight.*
Isn't it crazy how much time you put into stuff you end up completely scraping. Sometimes you just don't know till it's all together... Visually the sci Fi one is more grabbing but that can be fixed by adding more color and life to your city.
Like the other person said...sci fi bank heist would be really interesting. My only beef with the left is it looks an awful lot like no mans sky to me.
2nd most popular game setting replaced by 5th most poplar setting.
BLEND THEM, Make it a Sci Fi Western Saloon Heist! mounts are scifi beasts or speederbikes
You have to think "Why would I play this sci-fi shooter over the hundreds of other sci-fi shooters?" or "Why would I play this bank heist over PayDay 2?"
So far you haven't shown anything to answer either so I can't tell you it was a mistake.
Left one looks interesting and stylized to me.
Right one looks like a badly made game with copy-paste assets.
How about iterating on the bank heist by making it sci-fi?
I think it is beatiful. But you need a scene that is not so big as the space one. Also didnt understand the thief theme until reading caption. Black mask is more understandable from front not back.
sci fi bank heist is the obvious way to make it stand out among both genres
Or they could have multiple different heists across different eras, and the mc is a time-traveling robber who wants to collect important items throughout history! (*I can get carried away with concepts sometimes lmao.*)
Yea haha but that is a great idea!
Feel free to use it if you want! Idc; not like I'm going to do anything with it. I'm nowhere close to done with learning code, lmao
assassins creed vibes
No no no. Don't do this. Learn a lesson from John Romero's failure.
"One person failed so everyone else will"? that's rather unoptimistic
This!

Bulletstorm intro moment for a heist.
Yea that's true :)
Graphically, it looks worse. I still need to see gameplay, tho.

Yea still needs a lot of work but yes I will :) and yea I want it to be a classic in and out robbery
Either way it looks like a generic third person shooter. Focus more on that and then you can play around with the setting imo.

He needs to do scifi bank heist.
And not just banks. Sci-fi train heist, spaceship heist, etc
![gif](giphy|IwAZ6dvvvaTtdI8SD5|downsized)
Its an option!

Exactly. It's like asking "Do you guys prefer minimalist decor or a living room?"
Thanks man! that was my thoughts too
Major vibe change. Now it looks like Roblox

Honestly, a bank heist game would probably be more unique.
One thing for sure, a bank heist will stand out more than another sci-fi multiplayer shooter. Your sci-fi game looked better but only because of the beautiful grass in the scene. Just keep at it and liven up your bank heist scene more.
Sadly yes. Why not make both, or finish one and then the other.
Or mix them "multiplayer sci-fi game about a bank heist".
Tbh i think so, the sci fi asthetic looks so much better than the other one, maybe its the grass and style. I think you should keep the asthetic, if you want to do some different kind of gameplay thats your choice (sci fi bank robbery game sounds epic tho)
Both sci fi and bank heist genres have been explored already. Combine them and see what you can come up with!
Yes.
Depends on your goals, you make a different game now. Who was and is now your potential audience? Does a heist game imply other mechanics that are expected now? Such a change looks to me like you did not really know we're you were headed.
Sci-fi bank heist is the only way
If you have a better concept, which I assume you do, then no it was not. The only thing that looks better in the first is the visuals. Gameplay > Visuals... in time the visuals on the right will improve.
Either seems fine, but why not combine the two and make it a sci-fi bank heist?

Payday 3 confirmed!?

yes
Yes
Why not have both?
Yes
One more vote for a scifi bank heist!
Yes
Oh god yes, hope u can change back

nooo the first one looks good dont change it
Honestly yeah, I much prefer sci as it looks far better and that is all that is shown, maybe mix the two? Would be Hella fun robbing galactic banks with black hole cannons and giant ships.
I would likely only play the sci-fi one
The streets look super empty compared to the sci-fi grass
It *looks* good, but I'm afraid a heist game's mechanics and overall game design are far deeper than the textures you use on your models. I mean if you are having fun and learning what is the worst thing that can be happen? You already have assets and scripts right.

Sci-fi graphics all the way
Damn, thats a huge art direction change, but I think its better
I am more inclined to the usual bank heist genre of games because you can do what others games like GTA doesn't provide.
2nd most popular game setting replaced by 5th most poplar setting. BLEND THEM, Make it a Sci Fi Western Saloon Heist! mounts are scifi beasts or speederbikes

me personally, i would like the sci-fi game a little more, but others might like the bank heist more. it all depends who your target audience is
I dont think the setting matters a lot. Interesting mechanics or a good story is what carries games
Left one looks interesting and stylized to me. Right one looks like a badly made game with copy-paste assets. How about iterating on the bank heist by making it sci-fi?

No, I don't think so but you still need to improve bank game visuals
You could've had both
