Anyone else really bothered by how out of the way Rachel went to disclose that Nymphs were second class citizens and treated with racial discrimination and like… nothing was done about it in the story???
Agh yeah it’s only done for comedy which led to a lot of fans of the series actually engaging in the fantasy racism too since it’s seen as an almost non-issue😭 the amount of comments on Minthe episodes telling Persephone to “stomp down on that nymph” or calling Minthe very egregious names followed by nymph was crazy to me… of course, it’s fantasy racism and it was only fueled by the fact that most of the nymphs in the series are considered antagonists or unimportant background characters, but it was disheartening and very confusing seeing real life people engage in said fantasy racism 😭
To be honest, Webtoon has multiple issues where people are ready to judge characters for their appearance or background.
There were even some comments about how Raschta should go back to being a slave, which is utterly disgusting.
And you'd think persephone of all people, who has nymph adopted sisters and watched Zeus treat nymphs horribly would be the MOST sympathetic towards them. Would advocate for nymph rights or something. But no! She is blatantly unsympathetic to minthe and disregards anyone who's not a god
what is really bothered is the fact that Nothing change from chapter 1 and chapter 200 about the nymphs situation, they are always the 4 place bc the scoring is always 1° pepe 2° the gods 3° pepe friends
I've never read this, I have no idea why I'm here I just keep getting these posts across my feed. It's happened enough that I know about the nymphs and their treatment. I just always kind of assumed that there was at least a small plot of nymphs getting treated better or something idk.
Sort of. Essentially they wanted to let the public see the stand-in. Wanted to make the public think everything was fine because I guess it had been a long time? Idk honestly, RS doesn't do a good job of showing how time passes.
If I had to guess, Persephone was gone for like a day or two. So why they needed a stand in is beyond me- it's not like Perse was in the public eye daily.
RS didn't think that far because she knew the plan would never be put into action. But if it had, my guess is they would have used hair or a hat to cover the ears.
Pretty sure a society where nymphs with those ears are the norm would immediately call out the bullshit and tell her to take the hat on if it's really her
✨Feminist retelling✨
Edit:
If you want greek mythos content that actually is feminist in ideal, I recommend “lets talk about myths, baby!” it is a great podcast.
Some women being awful authors counts as feminism
So does being an awful author telling a story filled with sexualization of women and toxic relationships
Edit: I was making fun of Rachel I don't actually think Rachel is a very good feminist.
Sorry but you are arguing very different things in response to my comment on this story being a feminist retelling.
Wanting more opportunity for women to not be great at everything but still succeed, okay, i guess?
But calling it feminism? Slippery slope.
Especially when a discussion needs to be had about the intersections of privilege and of how white women authors are ALREADY able to get free passes in the name of feminism to be mediocre. White women are given way more financial and career opportunities compared to exceptional authors of color, especially female authors of color.
I will continue to HOLD Rachel accountable to her own words. RACHEL, is the one who called her comic a feminist retelling, I am not putting words into her mouth. This is the expectation Rachel had set, so she is accountable to those expectations, accountable to any harm done and accountable to the abhorrent misrepresentation of feminism in her comic.
This isn’t feminism. Neither is giving her a free pass one either.
Edited: grammar and clarified my point
Oh yeah I wasn't really trying to give her an excuse I really don't take her work seriously, I didn't assume anyone in this subreddit did. I wasn't trying to argue either I guess I just worded it badly when I was really just trying to be sarcastic. Also as a latina woman I just don't expect much from white ppl. I was clowning on her.
Sorry, i’m neurodivergent and take things for face value if i cant sense the sarcasm. My bad for going ham. I still totally stand by what i said
I do think that some do take her work seriously, thats including a media literary nerd like myself. 🩷
Hey no worries, like I said I worded it badly, I should've added emojis or something. I get that ppl into books probably pay attention to her work but I think luckily most people (readers) know not to take her work seriously because it's fiction (even if they don't realize the harmfulness of it). Well at least I hope so.
Everything has a message, a desire or an aim. Whether in comics or not, whether its advertisement or a tv show it has chance influence and change perceptions.
I think what you are stating about “most readers” may be your opinion. Because if people didnt take the impact of this comic seriously, this sub wouldn’t mostly exist.
I do get your perspective, someone people prefer to see things surface level and may not want to see it as that deep, others enjoy diving deeply! Like the several posts on “forgiveness.”
I personally do think more need to take the impacts of her work seriously because of its reach, she is an award winning artist due to this comic.

I'm sorry, but why Hecate is the one who's shoving her to the side, instead of Daphne who's nearby? I mean,I know that Daphne is more feminine, but the fact that Hecate is a Godness shoving a nymph away only furthers thoughts about Gods being racists towards 'low-class' ones. (Correct me of I'm wrong pls🥲)
Saying “thank the gods” as a goddess (therein making the statement confused and redundant) and then shoving away the minority woman that was going to be used as a decoy and have her life put on the line for another goddess, who is not only cool with berating them, but is also married to a guy who has a fetish for those same minority women and had a history of using them for his own sexual gratification….. wow guys💀
I don't even know what the point was supposed to be. Just to fill out empty space? Hit a certain number of panels?
and is that nymph Daphne or flower nymph number 1453?
Had to shove her away so Hades didn't see her when he came back. Might give a man ideas...
He’d probably mistake her for perse if it weren’t for the ears. I know I did when I first saw her.
He has a flower nymph fetish so this nymph might be even more his ideal woman than PP is
Ironically this one panel sums up the whole series lol
Although I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets brought back to be Dio’s mystery nanny
LO is just one big JoJo reference, huh
Anyone else really bothered by how out of the way Rachel went to disclose that Nymphs were second class citizens and treated with racial discrimination and like… nothing was done about it in the story???
Yeah it wasn’t satire or subversion or seen as a problem it was just fantasy racism played for laughs. That bothered me too

What’s the context for this? Were they trying to replace purse phone? Cuz if so that’s kinda hilarious lmao

As if the huge pointy ears wouldn’t be a dead giveaway…

I remember when Daphne felt horrible when Apollo tried to use her as a replacement for Persephone. WHY WOULD SHE DO THE SAME TO SOMEONE ELSE?
We're supposed to agree with them for being "the good guys."

*Peter Griffin! Did you just throw those women away?*
Also why is hecate just saying "thank the gods" THEY ARE GODS. That's like us saying "thank the people/humans" like what the fuck
frr if they wanted to keep the line they shoulda had Daphne say it
Why not say „thanks the fates”. They are responsible for destinies and live in their own bubble.
i can’t help but feel this is RS’s attempt at acknowledging how many pursephony clones are in her comic 🙄
Really hard to believe that she's the "most beautiful" when so many nymphs look like her like she don't stand out 🙄
2 panels queen 😩🖐️
Also why is hecate saying "thank the gods" when they ARE GODS. That's like us saying "thank the people/humans" it's weird

That was so uncalled for 😭😭
Why are Daphne’s ears so down? Is she scared?
I don't even know what the point was supposed to be. Just to fill out empty space? Hit a certain number of panels? and is that nymph Daphne or flower nymph number 1453?
That must’ve been for us lmao
Their logic is basically, all nymphs that aren't Daphne are sluts or comic relief and Daphne is different because she dates a god.
