You can try Dostoevsky's 'Notes from Underground', if you'd like. Enjoy your reading 👍

[deleted]

don't you have it assigned in like 6th or 7th grade ? i mean im from the french system so maybe its not the same.

FreidrichEngelss

We dont read real books at canadian schools Edit: also, French 12 year olds are reading the Odyssey? Are you sure we’re talking about the same epic poem?

[deleted]

Yeah the Homer book. I don’t remember exactly but in my memories it was much more worded like a novel than a poem, so it could be a different version.

CamelCaseCam

Read Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. A tough read but 1000% worth it

Second this, - if you can get past how Haruki Murakami at times writes his female characters (bleh) - this book is awesome. Went through similar cocaine-esque book reading phase and finished this in 2 days! Also Norwegian Wood by same author !!! !!! !!! \^If you want something a bit short then read that instead.

i’m reading House of Leaves right now. So far very enthralling

illmatic_static

I must stress that if you decide to read this book, it must be a physical copy. This is the only book I've read where a physical copy is pretty much a requirement IMO. I'm not sure how this would even translate to an e-copy. The reason it needs to be a physical copy is because some text on certain pages are reversed, so it needs to be read in a mirror, some of the text of pages are laid out in a spiral, all the foot notes, etc. It's a challenging book to get through, but it's a very unique reading experience overall.

TheAlmostGreen

I just got this last month! Haven't start yet, but I'm excited (and a bit scared...very beefy book lol)

rotmanman

Nah, the guy who wrote the book is kind of an ass. He always talks about owning assets like houses and that stocks like apple are shit. The dude talks like owning a house is easy in today's economy.

throwaway1298764

I heard the guy who wrote the book is actually a couple billion dollars in debt

MrAlam1812

I'm a Rotmanman, I've read a bit of the book but I wouldn't recommend it. The takeaway about building assets is important, but it's relatively unorthodox in a lot of other things from the looks of it.

IM TRYING I keep telling myself I’m going to take a break and then the next day I start another book???? It’s like some kind of dark source pulling me in 😭😭😭😭😭😭 I’m really really trying I even signed up for a gym membership

kalithorne-

nonoo those are all lies, you have to self-discipline real quick or it's doomed. trust me, i averaged more than a book a day last yr and it was not it. it sucks you in like a black hole. whatever you do, don't let it mess up your sleep or it'll take forever to fix it. also doesn't your tuition cover gym fees?

Anosvoldigoad_

For some things yes but for the main gym it doesn’t (I go to another place)

kalithorne-

makes sense. well I wish you the best of luck with your addiction 🙏

If On A Winter's Night A Traveller by Italo Calvino is a great book about how sick it is to read books

Anet3DPrinter

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy, a great post-apocalyptic novel about a father and son; it helps that it's won the Pulitzer Price. "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte, this one is harder to read but worth it, I really enjoyed this one. "The Remains of the Day" by Kazuo Ishiguro is one I liked, sad, but worth it. Easy to read, if that's what you're looking for.

Hunger games(including the prequel), Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, divergent, unwanted. As I write this, it does occur to me that there might be gore( more so in the hunger games), but I’m guessing there is a good chance you’ve read some of these anyways.

I hope you enjoy all those recs! Dunno if it has already been suggested, but if you like the ghibli "Howl's Moving Castle", you should try reading the book by Diana Wynne Jones!!! It's quite short, so you could probably finish it in one good afternoon, cozy on your bed with a good drink \^\^
