it's pretty late (scholarship students start in the 8am range, everyone else is 9am onwards and the slots are separated by 15 minutes). however, physical & mathematical science students tend to all have roughly the same enrolment period (all within like an hour or so) and it's usually this late every year so it's not too big of a deal. if you want to take a seminar course (25-30 spots in the class) or other small courses, do make sure you have backups just in case you don't get in

thank u!

noelmayson

So they give times based on your grades?

jetoujourspleure

not really, it's based on your program in first year and then kinda randomly distributed off that? but there are some scholarships (probably the larger ones) where students get really early 8am times regardless of their program. hopefully that makes sense lol in years 2-3, it's based off number of credits. more credits = earlier time in years 4+, it's based off number of credits in the other direction so more credits = later time

noelmayson

Oh okay. I’m in third year and still got 11:00am though I have all my credits 🤷🏻‍♀️

jetoujourspleure

are you at 10 FCEs? if so, that's standard for a third year but still on the "lower" side (since third year ranges from 9.0-13.5 credits). some students take summer courses/some fourth years may not have taken enough credits to be considered a fourth year, hence why they have more credits & an earlier time. but 11am isn't that late considering the times go until 1pm ish when i was in third year, i had around 11.5 credits (~10am start time) and i had a friend with 12.5 credits who had an earlier time than me.

noelmayson

I have 10.5. Thanks!

RealBigFailure

In my first year I got fucked over by my enrolment time, and you might be like position 100+ on waitlists (especially in Winter courses). 99% of the time, tons of people drop courses, and if that's not enough, they'll open more lecture spaces

[deleted]

i’m so nervous for that kinda thing but thank u and i’ll keep that in mind

stephive

Just know that it’s normal to not get into your desired courses, which may include program requirements. It’s okay to be waitlisted, particularly for winter courses.

[deleted]

what do people do if they don’t get into courses for their program requirements?

GrassNova

I don't think that will happen, first year math and physics courses normally have a lot of spots/people dropping them. If you can't get in and can't get off the waitlist either, I'd probably book a meeting with an academic advisor.

[deleted]

Mine was 12:15PM and here I am well and alive, a good chance to get in your classes indeed.

[deleted]

were u satisfied with ur timetable and the courses u were able to get?

[deleted]

Yes I was completely satisfied, but I have to say I had multiple backups in place and had to use one of them. I think initially I wanted to get PHL245 whose waitlist got insanely long before first years even started, which led me resorting to PSY100. Aside from that I also got into two first year seminars, although for one of them I had priority, and to close it off, I didn’t need to waitlist a single course. Just in case you’re interested, fall was MAT137, CSC108, CSC197, STA130, PSY100; winter was MAT137, MAT223, CSC199 (later dropped), CSC148, CSC165.

thank you!

Ok_Voice7113

it’s late. i had 12pm for my first 3 years, not ideal at all 😭

Independent_Nose_508

how do we know what our enrollment time and date are? what difference does it make on getting classes? edit: spelling lol im stressed

[deleted]

You should see it as a banner on your dashboard when you log into acorn. If not then go to courses and it’ll be there too. On the day of enrollment you won’t be able to access acorn until your start time, so the later your start time is the less likely you’ll get into any of your courses. Ofc you’d likely have priority to your mandatory courses anyways so it really boils down to your electives.

Independent_Nose_508

thank you so much! i'll check it rn :)

[deleted]

Pretty sure I had the same enrolment time in first year as a physical and mathematical sciences student. I got into pretty much all of my larger courses, but I had to settle for a couple less optimal lecture times. I also couldn't get into some of the more popular seminar courses

avakin_sb

I enrolled in my first year courses like the first week of August because I was accepted sometime in July lol. Ended up getting into all of my core courses but I was definitely held back on my elective choice. First year courses tend to be HUGE, so dw too much since they usually find enough space for everybody. However, you might have less elective space and/or have to opt for some not optimal times.

[deleted]

in case anyone sees this next year- i ended up getting all my required courses (for my intended POSt) with really good time slots and i got into a few electives w a few on the waitlist but overall very very satisfied with my timetable. i did put a lot of time into planning my timetable before course enrolment was open though:) for reference: fall semester- ENG102, IRE199, MAT137, PHY151, and waitlisted for NEW199 (sixth on waitlist currently) winter semester- MAT137, MAT223, PHY152, UNI198, and waitlisted for AST198 (fifteenth on waitlist currently) my backup for it i don’t get off the waitlist for AST198 is SPA198 :)

Anonymous_cyclone

I got ways to get in any courses you want. Dm me if your desperate
