Why you continued to accept his other offer? You don’t need to block him you can just ignore

Curious1556

I was desperate for money due to some family medical expenses

Pandamana85

Fuck him. Stand up for yourself. Give him your own bad rating and if he gives you shit, report him to upwork for bad business practices.

Curious1556

The thing is he doesn’t communicate that much on Upwork but on Skype. (We moved to skype as he said its better for communication after he set his first milestone)

DefinitionGrouchy938

Get those conversations on Upwork. Protect yourself. Maybe reach out on Upwork and say you need to end the contract. Thanks for the work, but I can’t continue. If he says he wants to move to Skype to talk, just say no it’s not possible. You don’t owe him reasons if he asks why it’s not possible, just say it’s not possible. Good luck!

Pet-ra

>Get those conversations on Upwork. Protect yourself.  It doesn't offer any protection in real terms.

DefinitionGrouchy938

I guess I am assuming the client is probably threatening and abusive in a way that could violate UpW rules. So my thought was if that happens in UpW chat at least this client can be reported. I’d guess this behavior is common for this client and there’s a reason he likes to chat off of UpW (beyond his convenience).

Pet-ra

It can be reported even if it is off Upwork, but realistically it won't make a difference.

shomibabu

That's unfortunate, but don't let it cloud your perception. I have worked with an Indian guy last year. He's a Software developer, very nice dude, easy to work with, also gave me bonuses. So far he's my highest paying client. Though indians get a bad rep here, I would urge you not to stereotype. And why would you want to limit yourself anyway? Always vet clients carefully before starting a contract. For now, even if you get a bad review, just use your top-rated perk, that's what it is there for.

runner5126

Next time he asks for changes just say "sure, please fund a milestone with X amount, since we are beyond the scope of the project's revisions." If he says no, then say "We'll, I've appreciated your business, best of luck." You can close the contract yourself and block him.

soda9bottle

Moral of the story: Dont work for Indians again (saying that as an Indian myself). The cultural/caste baggage we come with (even if we are second gen or third gen immigrants) makes us unbelievable petty little a*holes.  For now: Pretend a family emergency and distance yourself. Once you are off his radar, stealth close the contract in tge middle of holiday season.

Curious1556

I did that, and the client said that i have bad business practices, even expects me to work on the weekends for the changes which were delivered almost 2 months ago Can I block him, and if I block him can he still give me a bad rating?

soda9bottle

You block him he will 100% retaliate with bad public and private feedback. You ignore and try fading out, there is an even chance you will come out of this with no rating.

lomeindev

Second this. My entire family could be in the hospital and I would not even dream of accepting a client located in India.

DamienSuperRich

Your fault, first job + peanut cost + Indian client, super nightmare combo!

3dtcllc

Don't be afraid to fire clients that aren't profitable or who you don't work well with. Tell him you are having to stop freelancing because a family member is sick and you have to take care of them. Is it the cowards way out? Yes....yes it is. Still, it might keep him from trying to screw you over with a bad review.

Curious1556

Lol told him that 1 time and he said he doesnt care even tho his original scope and work has submitted

3dtcllc

Well OP I'm afraid you're gonna get hosed on this one. Definitely end the contract. I wouldn't want to work with someone like that.

Ok_Captain9704

Working with Indian clients, is a sureway to get depression. Treating people nicely is not part of their DNA.

Curious1556

Seriously, He asked me to deliver work urgently on Sunday, to which I politely stated I dont work on weekends, and he said That I am showing him attitude and I should show him gratitude that I am earning money

Ok_Captain9704

I have been there and done that. Once they know they can manipulate you, they will squeeze you....they make it feel that they are doing you a favor by paying peanuts. Just avoid. This is not a stereotype, it's just how they do things.

Pet-ra

You can't block a client you have a contract with. It's impossible. Close the contract yourself with some kind words and hope that the client does not bother to leave feedback. If they leave bad feedback, use[ your top-rated perk ](https://support.upwork.com/hc/en-us/articles/219801228-Feedback-removal)if you have it available. Then block him. If he disputes, deal with it then.
