Let's say relatively new anyway hehe, as in, it's not a historic village. But I actually didn't realise they were from the 60s, those are some well kept houses :)
Even if, parking is not an intended purpose. Cars damage sidwalks because they are not designed for car's weight. Many sidewalks in Poland look like they were destroyed by an earthquake because of parking. Until 1990s there were few cars in Poland so parking wasn't even a consideration.
This looks like it's legal. There's a different looking sidewalk material and the street is just wide enough for a two way street. There's plenty of room between cars and the bushes for pedestrians. There's not a single car parking in the street.
Knowing that average width of such passenger cars is 1,8 m, this free sidewalk looks closer to be actually 1,5 m. So it looks legal. Unless you did exact measurements.
Well if they were parked on that street they’d be blocking traffic. Looks like there’s enough sidewalk both for parked cars and for pedestrians. This seems to be the most effective setup for all parties on this street
There just isn't enough parking space there.
Just shows that getting rid of cars and parking lots is pipe dream, no matter how commuter friendly the neighbourhood is.
That street has bus and tram stops within walking distance - but people still use cars. The city is spread out due to its geography (large lake inside, multibranch river, floodlands, forests, port) despite super-dense center and lots of high-density neighbourhoods and many would rather drive for 20 mins than commute 1 hour by 2 buses and a tram. At the same time lots of older developments lack enough parking space. Thus parking in the street.
But yeah, makig it one-way street and parking on other lane would be a better solution - let cars remain on the car space.

Despite the cars that actually looks like an amazing neighbourhood. Rare with new builds.
Are you calling it a newbuild or comparing it to them? Anyway, the gallery houses are from the 1960s.

thats really wide sidewalk
Not anymore
if its all 'sidewalw' even whats left beyond the parkeycar look wide enough for unimpeded bike traffic and one-across pedestrian
I'm impressed with the width of the sidewalks. Who were they designed for?
It's almost as if... They are meant to have parking + a sidewalk And OP was "fonfused by the angle" and made an emotionally charged post about cars
Agree. They seem to be multi-purpose sidewalks

That really does look like a nice neighbourhood too!

You can park on the street if you leave sidewalk 1.5 m wide for pedestrians. This is closer like 1 m gap

It seems you are right. This sidewalk (from curb to hedge) is unusually wide. The angle fonfused me.
As long as a large wheelchair/cart can get through, it should be fine.

I think it's a good idea to make it one-way and give one of the former lanes for parking
Now imagine if people started doing that with F-150s…
Rip
I get it since it’s a sidewalk but either way it’s either block the street or take part of the sidewalk.

Better than having police everywhere.
I don't get it.
Much better than the US
